"After Nelson Müller and his entire team moved from Essen to Bergisch Gladbach, the likeable restaurateur and celebrity chef now offers his fine dining cuisine at the Diepeschrather Mühle, a former mill set in beautiful natural surroundings. They serve a modern, seasonal set menu comprising five or seven courses – the delicious tapas are a great way to start the meal. The vegetarian version of the set menu, dubbed "No Meat No Fish", needs to be booked two days in advance. You can also opt into the wine pairings. Here at the new location, there is also an alternative restaurant: Müllers in der Mühle brasserie. For a really chic overnight stay, this gorgeous property also houses an exquisite boutique hotel with tasteful, modern guestrooms and suites, as well as an attractive wellness and spa area." - Michelin Inspector

Schote

"This fine dining restaurant is housed in a modern building complex by Rüttenscheider Stern U-Bahn station, in the heart of Essen. It is owned by the likeable restaurateur and TV chef Nelson Müller, who whisks diners away on a culinary adventure in the form of a set menu comprising five to seven courses (plus amuse-bouches and petits fours), created in the large open kitchen. With great technical precision, top-notch ingredients are transformed into dishes brimming with bold flavours. The vegetarian "No Meat No Fish" set menu is also available by prior arrangement two days in advance. Staff are happy to recommend the right wine to go with whatever you opt for. The interior is modern yet cosy, and the service is very friendly, attentive and competent. The building is also home to the Müllers auf der Rü brasserie." - Michelin Inspector

When you go to this restaurant, you know what the prices are and what to expect. Complaining about the price later is implausible, as in a comment below. After the third or fourth course of these small portions, we considered where we could go afterwards to fill the stomach. At some point, however, we realized that even though the portions were small, the food was perfectly sufficient to really fill us up. Well, eight courses. This isn't normally my kind of food or my way of eating, but it was interesting to see how food can be presented artistically. It tasted good, too. At one point, there was a 50-minute gap between two courses. That is clearly too long. I didn't look closely, but the food was served between approximately 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. It's not my style to eat that long, so for that I won't be doing it again. What bothered me about the restaurant was that there was a raised chest of drawers right next to the table where the waiters put the food and may have also prepared it. In my opinion, that's a definite minus point.

It was terrible. First of all, prices: the minimum four-course set costs them 120 euros, plus wine as an accompaniment, another 75 euros. This is three times more expensive than a restaurant in Paris with two Michelin stars. Now about the quality. The chef was apparently explained that in the gourmet restaurant the portions should be small. Unfortunately, they did not explain to him that they should be tasty in addition. Each such dish should be a small celebration of taste. It should pleasantly surprise, be unexpected and extremely tasty. Unfortunately, this is not the case in this restaurant. As a starter, they bring already a standard sweet macaroon with pate, foie gras in jelly and something like that. Unfortunately, none of this is absolutely delicious. They also bring beef broth with dumplings in a glass. Unfortunately, the dumpling sticks to the bottom of the glass, and you have to pick it out with your hands. Then they bring the crab in a strange way, with something as a side dish, absolutely not suitable for him. Finally, a variation appears on the theme of "fish and chips." In this case, the fish is brought in batter, and it turns out to be completely overdried. It is important that all of the above dishes are for some reason very salty. Then they promised to bring "something traditional for Germany - potatoes with meat." On this, however, I could not stand it and interrupted this set. It should be noted that this happened the first time in my life. I visited quite a few gourmet restaurants, and never before had I wanted to stop the set. As a result: I strongly recommend that nobody visit this restaurant. Both the idea and the execution of food in this restaurant are simply disgusting.

Great food, great service, great wine pairings. Of note: a "non-alcoholic" pairing is also offered, and clearly shows a lot of care and originality. Great address, will be back next time we're in the vicinity.
