Schumann's

I met the man behind the name himself as he came out of the kitchen to greet some guests and he even offered to help me find a seat. When I arrived one of the I suppose host told me no seats outside, only bar seats and then left me to decide. While Mr Schumann came out and when he saw me assured me he’d “take care” of me then fleeted outside and I assume got caught up. So I took a bar seat inside the restaurant (instead of the one at the entrance) which looked a bit more cosy. Both because I like negronis and I read that’s what the place is known for I ordered one. I was shocked to see its pre-mixed( is that how it’s done in bars now? ) It was too sweet for my personal taste, nothing special. I decided not to eat there as the menu was not very exciting. Overall underwhelming. Service was ok, they are more friendly with regulars. Price was ok I believe 12 euros for my negroni.

This is one of the oldest bars in Munich — with its own history, atmosphere, and a very delicious cocktails. Love this place. Always feel welcomed.

Fun cocktail bar with great food! A must when you’re in Munich. Loved the spinach balls, the salmon , the roast beef and the ribeye. Will get busy , make sure you reserve.

Interesting night at Schumann’s we walked in on a Friday night at 9pm with no reservation. It’s not the friendliest place to get seated or get a drink with a seat, but once we got served for the first time we found seating upstairs and were well looked after. Superb old fashioneds! Would recommend but have a gameplan on how to get seated and get a waiter.

Strange place. The wine list is very good to be fair, but the waiters think they are gods?! We sat at an empty table and were told off (yes, told off, like children): how dare we just sit without asking, the table is clearly occupied because there are empty glasses (what?) etc etc. I know service in Germany is not always the most polite, but to be berated like that is really quite ridiculous. After trying to explain to the waiter that it is, in our general understanding of how things work in the world, in fact, not strange or rude to sit at an empty table in a bar, he justified his (what can only be described as a) fit by explaining that „this is the most popular table in the world“ and „Bastian Schweinsteiger sits here sometimes“. I did try to explain that I think there are more popular tables, e.g., in London and New York City, but this waiter who has probably never left Bavaria didn’t quite understand. The most bizarre interaction I have had with someone I‘m literally paying to serve me. Makes for a good story though and the wine was good, so 2 stars

It’s a hot place in the city, right next to the U-Bahn station, super convenient. The choice of food menu is limited but delicious, they have plenty choice of drinks. I like the service here, they are always friendly, supportive and helpful. Already went to there couple of times.

Me and my friend asked for table at the terrace, (was the last one) the waiter told that it’s reserved and we were about to leave, but then noticed that just right after us the couple were seated without reservation after a quick nice talk with another waiter. We asked the second waiter why were they seated and not us if all of us didn’t reserve a table, for that waiter told us “They are my friends” and I am not aware what my colleagues might told you. Never faced that attitude anywhere else before.

What a great bar! Was fully packed with people on Thursday night, yet bartenders were working lightning fast. Excellent making of classics: whisky sour, negroni, old fashioned. Nice music.

Nice place ! Just be ready not to believed if you say that your drink is wrong. I was served a sparkling Negroni and was told it's impossible in spite if the obvious evolving bubbles. They did not remake it....But they replaced the beers of my neighbors. Service there depends on the waiter. Take it or leave it is the rule. But when it's good, it's good ! Just be aware...

I am a fan! We are recurrent fans -- every time we are in Munich, we make a point to have fun with cocktails at this place. The atmosphere offers a lively vibe with many patrons who in for a good & fun time. It's always packed and reservation is recommended (but walks in also welcomed -- just might have to wait a few minutes). The mixologists & service personnel are dressed in white lab coats -- such a good & professional vibe! The best of all is the drinks & many options and versions of however you want your sips to be -- it's always a good experience when we come here. Life is good & cheers to life

This is an old Munich establishment and one of those places where people like to be seen. I generally avoid such places and it took me two years to actually come here for the first time today. It comes with the usual attitude of "what do you want here ?" waiters. You will however find that a few German words work a charm here and, even though it was fully booked we were given a nice table outside for an hour (all we needed as, we had a concert to go to). I was told by a good friend that the Old Fashioned cocktail here is legendary and, it truly was. With one huge cube of ice and an excellent taste, this was the best old fashioned cocktail I have had, in Munich. The Amaretto Sour was also divine. The service was slightly erratic as our waiters kept changing but we did get what we wanted and left happy. I am told this place is famous for its carpaccio but we had no food here. There was a lot of plates of food coming out and it all looked pretty good. This is an expensive bar so be prepared to pay. This is one of those places where the posh people in Munich hang out or, those that wanna be posh do ;-)))

Stopped by late at night. Outside patio was packed and bar as well. Amazing cocktail book. The drinks are even better. Both the Sazerac and Old Fashioned were amazing. Bartenders are amazing and speak English and German

Excellent upscale bar to check out at night. It has a charming yet luxoriously modern feel to it as it it were out of an old European movie. The service is slow and they definitely make you feel like they are pretentious but overall the drinks are well made and a good spot to spend the night.

Had a really great experience here visited Munich this past weekend had a great time lovely city very nice people. This bar is classy and relax you come here when you want a good drink and real bartenders that know how to make drinks. I had an old fashion with rum diplomatic It was fantastic, this place is on my list of top bars I've been too. Would recommend a visit if in Munich

Avoid this place! Super unfriendly service! We even witnessed that a young family had to leave right after they received their drinks, since their baby cried for a minute. They were not allowed to finished their drinks at 6:30, but been asked to pay. Honestly they could have told the people when entering that they have an issue with a baby. We had quite a number of drinks and food, cocktails took forever. The entire time we did not get a please or thank you, not even after we received the massive bill. Don't go!

So we informed ourselves beforehand that this was a more fancy spot so we wore more expensive clothes. However when we entered, one of the waiters looked at us in contempt. I think he realized we were tourists. But what's so bad about that? We really liked the city and all the German beer halls and all that nazi stuff. Stupid place.

Exceptional atmosphere and people. I had several wonderful nights here and would not hesitate to return. The cocktails were expensive but you don't go there to drink too much.

I've now gone for drinks and for dinner and drinks, and it's great. Great American cocktails, better German food. Get the wienerschnitzel, it's there only on Sundays though, but so worth it...

One of the most 'gemütlich' café-bars in Munich, reminiscent of Vienna in its interior and selection. A great location to sit at an outside table and watch the world go by. This year the winter was so mild that the outside tables were all in use in mid January! Happy memories too of a Scotch malt whisky tasting held there, the ambience adding to the pleasure.

This is a split review. There are a total of three spaces at Schumann's: Schumann's Bar, Camparino and Les Fleurs du Mal. Les Fleur du Mal is an excellent bar with great cocktail/mixologist tradition and products and not to be missed in a Munich trip, would deserve 4-4.5 stars. Les Fleurs du Mal is a half level up the stairs. However, Schumann's Bar itself is overrun by wanna-be-seens and the service is in parts rude, slow and not in line with the product. Considering that the same staff is working all spaces, it is surprising what a disconnect one can experience when ordering the same drink in each space. While they can take credit cards they do not like it and make it heard. As much as they want a tip they don't deserve it because of the lack of attention and rudeness exhibited. That said, if you want to see really long legs in really tight and short skirts, this is the place in Munich to be...
