Historic Schwartz’s Bakery Is Opening a Kosher Barbecue and Deli in Pico-Robertson - Eater LA

"The family-operated Schwartz Bakery on Pico-Robertson is as Los Angeles as it gets. Operating since 1954, Schwartz now has five locations throughout Los Angeles, plus a forthcoming addition confirmed on Pico near Robertson. It’s a new venture is called Schwartz’s Deli & BBQ, reports Toddrickallen. Because Schwartz keeps kosher, the barbecue element will follow the same guidelines less than 250 feet away from the Schwartz location on 8856 W. Pico. The historic bakery is owned by the Sibony family, who purchased the bakery from the Schwartz family in 1979." - Mona Holmes

Google
Great new place to grab something quick for lunch. Sushi made fresh everyday. They also have great selection of meat from the butcher side and not to mention the Shabat take out. Better prices than anyone else

Google
Ok food. Presentation not fantastic, but nice people work here. The tables werent very clean, but the bathroom was. I got the pastrami on rye. It came warm, but not hot. The meat wasn't dry, or particularly juicy. The pickle wasn't crisp all the way. It feels like this is just not a place where ownership wants to passionately make and sell the highest quality pastrami sandwich.

Great for Shabbat take out - everything in one stop shopping

We just ordered from Schwartz’s new Mexican Food menu. Two words: AMAZING and DELICIOUS! All the ingredients were fresh, real and authentic. Great salsa and chips, guacamole, rice and beans. The best part is that there are so many options to choose from; there is something for everyone- even picky kids. Highly recommend the chicken fajitas and tacquitos - best I’ve ever had! We will definitely be making this a Tuesday night ritual now!

Google
Schwartz's has the best Shabbat takeout food! My family is always so happy when I pick up food from them. Just tonight I ordered from their Mexican menu, and it was amazing! The burritos and tacos were excellent. I highly recommend!!

Google
Great customer service. Everyone was very helpful & Welcoming. Delicious food, including: a huge variety of salads, meats, & freshly made food. I had the schnitzel just like my mom used to make it. Chopped liver; delicious. Pastrami burekas, unique; fresh, flacky, delicious. & sausage egroll, also an unique take, delicious. I have to go back to explore so many more dishes, starting with the stuffed cabbage.

Schwartz Catering did a magnificent job at our son's bar mitzvah weekend. The food and desserts at the synagogue kiddish, at our Shabbat family/friends lunch, and at the bar mitzvah party itself were beyond delicious. The service was first-rate and Moshe Hecht did a phenomenal and thorough job of running all 3 events. We had to worry about nothing and Moshe and his staff took care of everything with superlative service. This is the 3rd time in 5 years that we've used Schwartz Catering for a major event (200+ people) and it gets better and better each time. At the highest level, we recommend Schwartz Catering for your simcha or special event.

Google
I got Passover take out. The food was very tasty. They had large portions. Very convenient. We asked for delivery to the Valley two days before Passover. We called at the end of the day. They said it would come the day before Passover. We called the next day and they said they would not be able to deliver. They refunded me for the delivery fee since I picked it up. When I calked, they said they did not have two kugels ready. We asked for a refund. I went to pick up the food. They said the kugels were in the oven. I said that's ok, just refund me. They said it doesn't work that way since they were preparing it. I waited an hour and got the two kugels. It was still worth it as the food was plentiful and made for an easier than usual Passover.

Yelp
This reminds me of a sassy old school, New York deli and marketplace, the owners refuse to put prices on items... Because in all honesty they're way overpriced. It's a damn shame considering how good the deli looks... But of course there's no prices on anything. Not sure what the ownership is thinking, but it feels a bit shady and punitive not to service your customers.

Yelp
Came here last week for a family event! Solid sandwiches , delicious smoked brisket, and tasty Cinnamon babka(not pictured). Plus, the staff is very friendly and takes good care of their guests. Some reviews mention prices are too high but I thought they were reasonable for the quality (and portions) that you're getting. You really get what you pay for in this area. Thank you Moshe & team. Looking forward to the opening of the Deli !! Sneak preview pic included.

Yelp
Plenty of hot & cold prepared kosher food. The store is small inside, but they pack a lot in it. The kitchen must be big because they have a lot of variety. At the deli counter they have many meat options like slow roast short rib, chicken, fried meat pastries, as well as veggie options, like various potatoes, broccoli, etc. There is also a refrigerated section with prepared food like matzo ball soup. On the opposite side is all the various baked goods. It's certainly not cheap, but the food is good, as is the service. For CoViD-19, they're letting in a few customers at a time, and giving gloves at the entrance. Plenty of street parking.

Yelp
I would come here every week to get food for my shabbat minyan. The chicken fingers are amazing. And the best dipping sauce. The spicy cilantro dip is amazing. Price is amazing. Even asked my office to order from them before and everyone was satisfied. And loved the food.

Yelp
I really love the idea of this place. I really hope that they get their act together, change things, and succeed. I am more than happy to alter my review if they do, but... : I went in their today on the day before Rosh Hoshana. The good: 1. the food/ambiance *looks* great What I dont like 1. The prices are insane. Here are the two things I remember: * $10 for a medium size challah (maybe $5-6 at Glatt Mart). * $7-8 or pickled herring (probably includes ~8 pieces) 2. I got a new 'pastry' they had for Rosh Hoshana, which looked like little balls of dough connected by caramel. It was $7 and was the size of my fist, which is already alot for a pastry, especially one which is mostly dough. I was super excited to eat it, but as I took a bite it was literally inedible - the caramel was so hard that I couldn't even bite into it. It hurt my teeth just to try tearing into it, and even with the full force of my bite, I couldn't get it to tear. Even after microwaving at home, I could barely eat it and ended up throwing it away. I can accept that the pastry was a horrible fluke, but please lower your prices...

Yelp
Their food is great and they have a wide selection. My only complaint is that when you walk into their store no one greets with you a friendly face. It's such a shame. It could be a much more enjoyable experience if they at least pretended like they care...
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Meh. Foods great service is crap. Even if you call to see what they face they will be out if it. I called about salmon. They said it would be out at 2:30 on a Thursday. I went to buy it. They said someone bought it all. Then they said the fish was bad that day. Then they said BLAH BLAH BLAH. You get the idea. Always a different story about bad customer service. Oh also btw... they are still "remodeling!" It's been over a year guys. It's called run down at this point. Lol

Yelp
I was so happy when Schwartz's Meat opened its store on Pico. The take out food has great options when I don't feel like cooking with choices from fish, veggies, meat, soups, desserts, side dishes, salads - just about everything you can think of. It is one stop shopping for sure. The owners and the staff there are all terrific and very friendly and helpful. Pricing is great and the food is tasty and terrific. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I will make it short and sweet. Their food is consistent, delicious and the portions are awesome!. Keep coming back... ITS FIRE!

Yelp
One star is too many for this place. Very rude and condescending owner. Not child friendly ! Prices are outrageous. They don't like Sephardics.

Yelp
super cool market. Everything is fresh and kosher. So many food selections and let me tell you the food is amazing along with the customer service. Love all the fresh snacks and pastries! Lots of options as well for meats and breads. Love the fact that they have to go items already prepped the best part is the parking in the back :) customer service is top notch and everyone is kind.. will be returning over and over again lol .

Yelp
Really glad this place opened!!! Really takes LA takeout to the next level. Everything is delicious and beautifully presented. I particularly love how they have many options for a quick grab and go salad or sandwhich. I'm also particularly thankful that I had them prepare a few trays for an event and was appropriately advised on how much good to get for the amount of people I was expecting and they could have been as easily pushed an excessive amount on me. Food is always wonderful and ataffis very fast, freindly, and helpful.

Yelp
Expensive AND I got food poisoning that very night following eating their sushi! AVOID THIS PLACE
google avatar

Hadi M.

Yelp
Really really bad. Food is bad. Service is worse. Price are ridiculous. Seriously do not eat here. You will get food poisoning. Whatever happened to delis in Pico that actually cared about food and service. They had passion. Now they only have passion for making or in this case losing money. Grow up.

Yelp
Schwartz is one of the best spots in LA. Their staff is always so friendly and helpful and the food is delicious! They just added Mexican food to their menu and it's great. Large portions and amazing food. Can't beat it!

Rita A.

Yelp
Food tasted awful (hopefully it was fresh). Staff were rude and said once you taste it, it's too late. What?!

Sam H.

Yelp
Love the food. I usually Postmates so I've never been to the establishment, but I think everytime I order it's tasty!
