Google
A truly excellent Schnitzel! This is a classic German restaurant with quick, professional staff and a well-kept interior—exactly what you’d expect from a traditional German spot, with lots of wood and plenty of beer. The food was delicious, and the quality-to-price ratio was spot on. I’ll definitely come back here the next time I’m in Berlin.

Google
Traditional German restaurant, staff were friendly and spoke English. There was a small menu but catered for all. I had a veal pasta dish with potato salad, it was nice and very filling. The schnitzel was huge! I peeped at the chef hammering away at the meat in the kitchen! Meal and large glass of wine was €28

Google
All super good, I was with some friends and the staff was very friendly, so the next day we came in 40 with the university group and all love the place 😁

Google
One of my favorite bars in Berlin. Great atmosphere, the bartender was exceptional, loved their Bramble, gins, and schnepps. Hope to visit someday again. Visited summer, 2023.

Google
Great atmosphere and wonderful authentic German Cuisine. I really loved the vibes here and all the food items tasted delicious. Great place to grab food and drinks. I love the decor, very German and the vibes inside is great for friends and family.

Google
Great place, and the vibes were great. We went in and the place was full, but we managed to get a table. We had two lovely gentlemen serving us, and they helped us when we had questions as we don't speak German. The portions were big, and it was worth the money. I would definitely come back!

Google
I went for a late lunch here on a Thursday afternoon. It was very quiet. The location is very pretty if you sit outside. The food was delicious, however, was very expensive. €19.50 for a pork schnitzel with potato salad. I would return (the food was delicious), but couldn’t afford to go often.

Google
Lovely little spot! Very authentic energy. I asked my waiter for the most iconic dish possible, and he gave me the pictured dish, a pork schnitzel with a cheesy side. It was delicious, filling and iconic. He and the rest of the staff were all exceptional! And it’s a very beautiful decor too. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Echoing another review, this place feels more of a local spot than a tourist highlight, but that was exactly what I wanted for dinner when I visited. The service is a bit slow, and the menu simple. We ordered the spatzle with lentils and sausage and vorspeisenteller (sample platter). For my palette, the spatzle was good but a bit plain and lacked seasoning. The sample platter was the better of the two, and I loved all the little bites with different flavors that I got from it. Overall, I think this restaurant makes for a great lowkey dinner.

Yelp
I loved the food here! My godparents are German, so I was told to try the schnitzel in Berlin. The schnitzel was great and the potato salad was to die for! My favorite! The restaurant itself is cute.

Yelp
Clean and fun- Lentils were great. Nice basic German food. Felt authentic. Good alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink selection Had to chase the waiter a little, but he was nice. Did not take credit card.

Yelp

Yelp
Simply no frills corner restaurant/pub. The cheesy spaetzle is the thing to get here, it is awesome. Other dishes are ok. Good service, was a little challenging getting the bill. They have some outside tables too.

Yelp
Came here yesterday for breakfast to start off a full day in Berlin. The place definitely has a European hipster vibe but I enjoyed it! Check out the interesting decorations around the restaurant. Options for breakfast were limited but delicious. They offer 3 different full breakfast options for 8.5 euro: a sweet, a cheese based and a mixed that comes with bread, muesli and an assortment of cheese and/or jam. Although it doesn't look particularly hearty, we were stuffed by the end. If you aren't as hungry they also had a la cart options like scrambled eggs. Also the server was very nice and welcoming and even gave us the lowdown on the traditional winter foods in Germany which is apparently goose, potato balls and cabbage? Hopefully we will get to try that by the end of the trip. This place is still cash only and also remember to add a 10% tip to the check.

Yelp
Simple German-style food of really solid quality and a very pleasant atmosphere. We split a flatbread and the cheese spaetzle and definitely felt like we had plenty of food. The goat cheese, walnut and pear flatbread had this weird sour cream sauce rather than your more traditional flatbread format. It was very rich and strange but very tasty. We were a bit confused but happy! The cheese spaetzle was very flavorful with strong garlic and onions, while also being so cheesy and satisfying! Plus it comes with a nice side salad so you feel a little less guilty. Service was slow, but the atmosphere was great and we appreciated taking the time for a longer dinner experience. Just don't come here if you're in a hurry. It felt like a local place rather than for tourists.

Yelp
Went here for lunch today. I must say the food is absolutely amazing and trully authentic. Haven't had such a nice lunch for a long time. We ordered Schnitzel with potatoes cucumber salad and "Schäufle" with fried potatoes and Sauerkraut (cabbage) two very traditional dishes. Both meals were divine and to the point. We rounded the lunch with a nice desert up and ordered Kaiserschmarn. Wow. Regarding the service.. well.. that was the only part that was slightly disappointing because it was rather mediocre. They all seemed disinterested and that's a pity for a place with a great kitchen like this. But anyways. I can still recommend it.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Quirky and cute on the corner in the very hip Mitte neighborhood. We split the pear, goat cheese, and walnut flammkuchen (thin pizza) and the on recommendation from a fellow yelper, the Geschmeltze Maultaschen mit schwäbischem Kartoffelsalat. This was basically a little pasta square layered with deliciously flavorful meat and fried, paired with a cold potato salad that was very well done. Topped our meal off with the cheesecake on special, which was presented beautifully and had a variety of toppings (raspberry, apricot, walnut) to fit your tastes. I recommend this place for its ambiance, but especially for the taste!

Yelp
I ordered take away, so can't say much to service or ambian excuse, but had read their schnitzel was grea, so wanted to check out while I was in Mitte. I got that with BratKarloffeln and the asparagus sou. The latter was a dream....till I found a fly in my soup. The Bratkartoffeln were mushy and under seasoned, tasting of cardboard, and the schnitzel was underwhelming...like a fast food version. Save your money unless you like the vibe.

Yelp
Cash only and worth every cent. Get that Spaetzle. It is delicious. It can easily be shared with two. It comes with a mixed green salad. That is enough for two also. I highly recommend this restating for a mouthwatering meal.

Yelp
Very nice place with a really cozy feel to it and friendly staff. The food is very good as well! I had the spaetzle with cheese which came with a small side salad , and it was delicious, huge portion too! I couldn't even finish it! We also had a flammkuchen with bacon and onions to share and let me tell you, you absolutely have to get one, especially if you have never tried them! It was amazing! The staff is very attentive and they even helped me to choose a beer. The place has a black forest theme so there are antlers hanging on the walls, a coal stove in the middle of the room and the dark, wooden tables finish it off. Very nice meal for a very decent price and even tried a new snapps flavor!! ( marille, try it you will like it! ;) ) Also, I was so full I couldn't try the dessert but please have a Kaiserschmarrn and tell me how it is!!

Yelp
They were rude and kicked us out as soon as sat down. Don't go here! I had a confirmed reservation but they said someone else was here for the table of 7 that we already reserved. Sitting for 10mins and then they kicked us out. She was so rude and wouldn't give us her name because she knew we would call the manager. Thanks for making us have a terrible first night in Germany. BS.

Yelp
Visited as a family of four, we arrived at 6.30, with no reservation, it wasn't busy then but very busy when we left, most tables had reservation on them. Suggest calling ahead to book. Fabulous place, food amazing and very quick service. Atmosphere was relaxed. Child friendly.

Yelp
We went to a lot of restaurants in Berlin, but this was hands down one of my favorite ones. It was better than the Michelin star restaurants. We accidentally stumbled into here after a day of walking. To be honest, i can't even tell you what we had & with correct spelling. Get the fried pizza, the schnitzel, the cheese plate... all worth it.

Yelp
While in Berlin one must eat German food right? Well we went here and it was sooo great!!! Not only was the food authentic and filling, the atmosphere was very relaxed and the decorum was unique! Before this trip I never ate German food but if all German food tasted as good as this places I'd definitely eat it again and again! Service was great. Had an English version which was super helpful. All of the staff was super friendly and gave great recommendations! If you're in Berlin I suggest eating here!

Yelp
Very cute restaurant, good service, many German specialties. It trends heavily towards items with meat, but there are several vegetarian options. I had the maultaschen, a stuffed pasta with meat and caramelized onions, and my friend had an egg dish that she liked quite a lot. Atmosphere was good. I would totally come back again.

Yelp
Since I've only been living in Berlin for three months I'm still investigating Berlin's restaurants trying to find favourites in the different styles of cuisine on offer, and Berlin has numerous to offer. Last night's experiment was German, and I headed to Schwarzwaldstuben just off Oranienburger Staße. Very much a bar come restaurant the place was very busy on this Tuesday evening so I guess it may be packed at the weekend. The menu arrived in German with English translation which is welcome for this Auslander still trying to improve his German. The waitress was very friendly and kindly informed me das ist zu viel when I over ordered. Despite my large appetite I (thankfully) listened to her and changed my starter to their mixed started, which offered me the proposition of a variety of tastes, just what I should have ordered in the first place. I followed this with a Schweinschnitzel (breaded pork escalope) and Bratkartoffeln (roasted potatoes with onions). Both dishes were extremely tasty and fortunately the restaurant wasn't too smoky so I was able to enjoy their taste to the full. At EUR21 for the meal, plus vodka and bitter lemon, the meal wasn't cheap by Berlin standards. However the food and the venue were more than good enough to make me want to go back and try venison goulash that I almost ordered.

Yelp
Great fresh wild boar, elk and deer sausage with mustard mashed potatoes. The waiter gave us pointers about the area and must see points of interest in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Unimaginative German food, very average service - but actually in a pretty good vibe establishment. Located in the happening Mitte part of Berlin, this place came up as no.4 on Yelp, but I am still scratching my head as to why? Reception was really slow, but warmed up a little with some pretty crappy attempts at German on my part. Pretty busy and a good crowd of patrons for an early dinner in an environment that is cosy, not too loud with some eclectic decor. Food was slow and bland, went for the German pizza starter on recommendation which was okay but I'll be tasting the onion for days. Roasted Beef was way overcooked, tough and served with spätzle and snow peas in a gravy sauce (yay...). Maybe this place has a better breakfast - but I doubt I will try, there are so many better options in Berlin. As a social hangout, I think this place rocks. If you want to eat some good food, there are better options around.

Yelp
Stopped on an afternoon walk for a bier. Food looked good. They had an English menu and were friendly. They recommended the schnitzel I took the recommendation and was very happy. Good service. Nice staff. Would recommend. FYI no credit cards. But that's not uncommon here

Yelp
This place was just fantastic. Funny bartenders, friendly staff, and the food was insane. German food is among the most underrated in the world, and this place arguably does it best. It was tough to choose what we wanted, but we landed on the pear and goat cheese Flammkuchen, Gebratene Maultaschen, and the special. It was all great, but the Flammkuchen was by far the star of the show. We considered going back a second time before we left just for that.
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
Excellent spätzle and schnitzel! We ordered the cheese spätzle and we were so happy we trekked this way specially for this meal. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Rajesh K.

Yelp
Fantastic food and fantastic service. Schnitzel and flamm Kuchen were great. THe flammkuchen came loaded with bacon , bound to make anyone happy. They serve Augustiner helles, which i consider the best beer in the world, after years of trying out different beers. So they get extra points for that.

Yelp
This is my favorite German food in Berlin. Service is just fine per Berlin standards but the atmosphere and food are excellent. If you want to enjoy an evening out, this is a great location

Yelp
So glad we stopped here for brunch! Super authentic German food, with many locals eating here. I had the vorspeisenteller plate: like a plate full of different bites and things to try. Was super happy with my selection. No worries if dishes are in German, they have description in English of what's in the dish :)

Yelp
Love love loved it... We found this restaurant on Yelp and were very impressed with the reviews so we decided to check it out for lunch. The place has a very nice and cozy atmosphere, gets lots of light, and has a hip and casual décor. We sat at the bar, most tables were taken. There were a lot of tourists there, but surprisingly, the place did not feel too touristy!! We ordered the pork schnitzel and the lentil with spaetzle and sausage. Absolutely delicious. Pair that with a great service and we were very happy with our experience. So happy that we came back the next morning for breakfast and we were oh so glad that we did. For 8 you get a large plate with a delicious oatmeal, an egg, some ham and salami, and fruit, if not more. The coffee is very good too. With the check, they bring you a lovely postcard of one of the paintings on their wall. A very sweet memento...

Yelp
Nothing bad, but nothing special. We did the standard thing and searched various apps to identify options for dinner on the first night in Berlin. Schwarzwaldstudben is in a good area with lots of backup options if full/closed or not to your taste. The staff were good, the menu is traditional German (soup was very nice, mains were average) and the food ... average? Basically, I was trying to find something spectacular and we got something that was.....good. So, it's nice, it's cheap you won't be upset, but you won't be blown away either.

Yelp
We came here for breakfast and loved this place. What's better than getting an extremely delicious meal for breakfast with a beer. You have to order the Konig Ludwig pale ale. They have it on draught and it is really crisp and clean. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I wish I could go to this place regularly.
google avatar

Victor W.

Yelp
Excellent spot for German food. The spatzle is particularly amazing here. I recommend the schnitzel here as well -- very moist and flavorful. The fried potatoes it comes with are excellent too. The sausages with spatzle and lentil beans is also great. The side salad is a very generous portion and extremely tasty. The decor is very hipster. It has a lot of charm. The waiters speak English (and there's an English menu) plus they are super friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
I was in Berlin for only 2 days, but I'm glad I went here to have a meal. Being a vegetarian, I expected it to be quite difficult to find any vegetarian options in Germany. However, this place did have some options for vegetarians. I ordered some maultaschen, which is kind of like a German take on ravioli. You could order it with meat or vegetarian; obviously I did the latter. At first when my meal was served, I received the wrong meal- I knew after I took a bite that there was meat in the meal- not good. I informed the waiter the order was incorrect, and within a reasonable time he brought the correct order. It was worth the wait, the maultaschen was delicious, came served with a small potato salad, and a leafy salad on the side. My entree was quite greasy (a lot of oil) and heavy, but eating the leafy salad helped. Of course, having some German beer was a good way to round out the meal. This place has a rustic feel to it, with some kitschy decor, but I liked it, I found it to be charming. I'd go back on my next return to Berlin.
google avatar

Francesca C.

Yelp
I'm giving this 3 stars, based on the service. It's super centrally located, and the decor was cozy, with selections of plush couches or sit down tables. The food was nice, a hearty spread of meats, cheeses, and fresh breads with *homemade* jams and a hard boiled egg for breakfast. My partner had some concoction of cheesy eggs and meat, and was pretty satisfied. We sat immediately, but took forever to order, and when I asked for some tap water, the waitress brought bottled water, for a lovely 4 euro, which was nearly the price of my breakfast. Was better than my other breakfast experience at nearby cafe Oranium, but would nicely and sternly specify what you would like :)

Yelp
Really happy to have randomly found this place while wandering around Berlin ! It had actually been recommended by a couple of bloggers and it's really worth a stop. The decor is very cosy and inviting. The restaurant is very popular in the evening but if you haven't booked, you might still have room at the counter. The staff was very friendly and like in most places I've been to in Berlin, they won't rush you to finish your dinner and leave, even when the place gets more crowded. The specialty of the house : meals from Southern Germany like the Spätzle. And having friends from that side of the country who cook well, I can tell you that they were really good. If you prefer a meatier option, you can choose the Wiener Schnitzel. And if you don't have time for a dinner, feel free to have a drink by the bar and enjoy the setting !

Yelp
Solid delicious German food served in a cozy German Shabby Chic atmosphere. This was my friend's introduction to German food in Germany. Her grandmother grew up in Southern Germany so she had had her cooking. She ordered the Kasse Spatzle with fried onions and beer. I had the Beerlitzer Spargel (white asparagus) that was in season with hollandaise sauce. White asparagus is always a novelty for us Americans but the Germans adore it. They are thick and meaty with a very mild asparagus taste. Schwarzwaldstuben's were so tender without being soggy. The hollandaise was thick with butter and eggs and yum. Served along side were boiled new potatoes that were golden and packed with potato . I added a view shavings of real black forest ham. With a glass of riesling, it was gutt!

Russel T.

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to admit I came here four nights in a row for the schnitzel and bratkartoffeln. Susie our waitress was always lovely although she never remembered us. Then again she may have just pretended not to remember because she thought we were mad for coming in night after night. I wish I had tried the Tannenzäpfle but the Pilsner Urqell Tankbeir was too delicious.

Amontilado 1.

Yelp
Food is a disgrace to south- German cuisine. Lack of flavour is masked by usage of way too much salt and oil. Brought friends from abroad to get a taste in typical German cuisine but should have know better from prior visits. Be aware of this tourist trap.
google avatar

Hallie S.

Yelp
Completely delicious, fine service, good atmosphere. Note they only take cash, I had to walk a few blocks to the closest ATM, but worth the extra walk. The goat cheese pear pizza bread is one of the best things I've ever eaten. And my main entrée was delicious as well. I would highly recommend this place. Just bring cash!

Yelp
Good german resturant, receipes from Swabia/Black Forest (Maultaschen, Spätzle etc.). Good taste, good beer, good prices. highs: taste, beer lows: a bit crowded at night My favourite: Vegetarische Maultaschen mit Ei und Salat, Kaiserschmarrn (sort of a scramble pancake with apple slices, cranberry sauce, caramellised almonds and a bit of spirit)
google avatar

Qype User (Smatt…)

Yelp
I'm glad I gave this place a try! The restaurant is a cool blend of tacky hunting lodge and hipster hangout with good music playing on the stereo. The prices are reasonable and the Swabian cuisine is tasty. I loved the Rothaus beer on tap! It was busy on the Monday night I visited, so I can only assume that a reservation is essential closer to the weekend.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our time at Schwarzwaldstuben. The food was a modern take on traditional German fare, which is precisely the sort of thing we wanted on our trip to Berlin. We both loved our meals and have made sure to add them to our repertoires at home! We arrived at a very busy time and hadn't booked, but the staff were very accommodating and made sure to find us a space. I would advise you probably call them in advance but they were so nice in getting us seated, we were very grateful. The waiting staff were attentive and very friendly - we had a good chat to the young man serving us. Very highly recommended. Next time we're in Berlin we'll make sure to stop in again.

Yelp
We wanted authentic German cuisine and had this recommended via Lonely Planet's 'Europe on a Shoestring'. I must say it was one of our Berlin highlights. The decor is cool and outdoorsy while the atmosphere is cozy and chill. Our server was friendly and accommodating as it was a pretty busy place and had to shuffle chairs around to make a table of three. We wanted Schnitzel with Späzel which isn't a dish combination on the menu, but once again made it work. Our food came out very quickly. The schnitzel was great but the real star was the Späzel. I would eat that every day if I could! We were very impressed... Even the side salad was dynamite. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Hope A.

Yelp
Great schnitzel and salad. Lovely beers and choice place to people watch if you sit outside. No credit cards accepted so bring cash.

Greg M.

Yelp
Cool place to go for a Swabian dinner. It's a good place to go to try something different from the normal German cuisine you find in Berlin. Our dinner group had maultaschen, flammkuchen, and a pork plate. All were very good and we finished with a dessert I highly recommend - Kaiserschmarrn. Nice berlin style ambience - clean but not a white table cloths type of place

Yelp
So grateful to find a place with an English version of the menu! Food here was delicious and staff was really friendly. Came by myself and ate at the bar and had great service. Cash only!
google avatar

Yelp
Had breakfast here before going to the Museum Island (about fifteen minutes walking). Food is good, ambience and decor very good, plus they have English menu & friendly waitress spoke English. Their breakfast menu is very limited, but if the opportunity presents itself I would love to try it for dinner.

Yelp
got the kasespatzle. its like the german version of mac and cheese. it was gooooood and cheesy. Good serviceee

Yelp
Yum! Taste 5 Price 5 Service 5 I was very happy and will definitely come back. Such a gem!

Yelp
This was a great find while visiting Berlin for a few days. I actually had dinner there twice! The decor is eclectic, service impeccable, and food was worth both visits. The staff spoke English and the menu has English descriptions which was very helpful. A great place to enjoy superb German food at a very reasonable price.

Yelp
Vortrefflich (superb)! Based on previous Yelp recommendations we stopped in for an early Sunday lunch. Schwarzwaldstuben is a well-appointed, congenial and cozy tavern at the intersection of Tucholsky and Linienstraße near Rosenthaler Platz. We chose a window table near the huge green-tiled furnace. Although the young waitress spoke perfect English, she good-naturedly took our order in my striving German. For starters I ordered an excellent home-brew Rothaus beer and my wife had an equally delicious Trollinger dry red wine. It was a little before noon and the waitress informed us that the kitchen didn't start lunch until 12 o'clock precisely, but she would submit our orders ahead of time. (You gotta love the German sense of precision and order.) My wife got the Badisches Taufeles or boiled pork while I got the Wildbratwurst or wild game sausages. The sides included potatoes and freshly pickled white cabbage kraut. We shared both dishes and slowly savored the rich combination of flavors on our palates - succulent chunks of lean ham tender enough to cut with a fork and expertly grilled wild boar and venison links cut with a raspberry mustard and rosemary-infused mashed potatoes (to-die-for). The menu also has spaetzle and flammenküchen (German answers to pasta and pizza respectively.) It all looked great coming out of the little kitchen manned by three kinetic young cooks. This is true German cuisine with a local-source philosophy and simple business plan, to wit it's an all-cash establishment because "we'd rather spend money on the best ingredients than share it with the banks." Only one dessert on the menu, the caramelized Kaiserschmarmm (15 minutes to prepare) or German smashed crêpes with fresh berry compote, cherry sorbet and Schlag (whipped cream). We shared this absolutely delicious conclusion to our Berlin gastronomic adventures and then took a long walk home to Kreuzberg.

Yelp
The food was really good (especially the tomato soup) but our server was rude and the glassware was dirty.
