On the Grid : Science Gallery

"A bridge between art and science, the Science Gallery is extremely unique. Consistently pushing the boundaries of what an exhibition can be, with no permanent collection the content of the gallery is in a constant state of flux meaning that each visit often means something completely new. Comes with the prerequisite cafe and shop but the real reason to make the trip is the excellent exhibitions." - It's Okay

Lifelines: Rethinking Aging A thought-provoking, albeit brief, exhibition that encourages us to challenge the stigma and assumptions surrounding aging. Lifelines explores the emotional, physical, and mental demands of growing older, offering insightful reflections and wisdom to help navigate the process with empathy and understanding. Though Gallery 1 was unfortunately closed for renovation, the remaining spaces offered a meaningful glimpse into an often overlooked subject. The downstairs toilets are accessible, but the theatre was in use for a presentation, with no clear signage about public access—something that could be improved. Overall, it’s a compact yet impactful experience—well-suited for carers, young adults, or anyone curious about how we view and approach aging in today’s world.

I visited a couple of exhibitions at this gallery : Hidden Mothers and Lifelines: Rethinking Aging…..and both were very interesting. There’s a cafe on the ground floor and the galleries were on the first floor accessible by life. The exhibition spaces were small but both exhibitions packed in a lot of information, especially the one on aging. It’s free to enter the gallery and exhibitions. The cafe has meals and snacks and a nice terrace off the street.

I really didn’t know what to expect from a science gallery to be honest. I went in with no expectations and came out more informed about some issues that we simply ignore in our daily routines. I would recommend visiting this site and taking time out to really watch the videos and exhibitions within the building. The staff were really super helpful and friendly.

Saw a meaningful exhibition — Lifelines: Rethinking Ageing Across Generations — inspiring way to reflect on ageing and connections between generations.

A profound experience, goes under your skin and makes you think about climate and our relationship with the world around us even more.

I found this exhibition to have a very interesting collection of works. I particularly liked the catsitting video and the “looking for love” robot, which was quite humorous. The place was not too crowded and had a nice atmosphere. If you are interested in AI and different applications for it, I would give it a visit!

Great new space, where “science meets art”. Top tip, if you’re a Kings student or Guy’s NHS staff, you get a discount in the cafe. Only had a coffee, but the food menu looked good, with options like soft shell crab sandwich and fries. Looking forward to seeing what exhibitions pop up here over the coming year.
