Hands down this is the best place to grab a funnel cake on the Santa Monica pier. Quick service and the funnel cakes are hot and fresh. There’s nothing better than sitting on the pier, enjoying the sunset, and eating a funnel cake topped with strawberries and cream. Don’t believe me? Go try it for yourself!!

Google
We got the churro funnel cake with vanilla bean ice cream and it was amazing!

Simon Moore

Google
Typical ice cream shop with cones, cups, and usual flavors + toppings offered. What makes this place great is the scenery of the Ferris wheel and being able to overlook the pier. Prices are fair, but again nothing really extraordinary here; a chocolate sundae isn’t even offered on the menu. They should have more seating options with pier-themed decor and make the menu more lavish. It’s a pier people visit who come from all over the world! It should feel fun and lively, but that’s all in the surrounding at the arcade and rides. Convenient for a quick treat, but nothing new!

Google
The place to get your Funnel Cake fix on Santa Monica pier. The whipped cream is from a can and deflates really quickly, fresh whipped cream would be better, but the portion is generous.

Funnel cake and ice cream was good. The line moved quickly. Usually a crowd so be prepared. I enjoyed it.

For a place that’s consistently visited by tourists from all over the world, you’d hope they’d want to impress the people spending their money in this business and attempt to keep it clean, but it’s VERY average and quite disgustingly dirty. For my personal opinion, it’s not somewhere I’d go out of my way to stop. The worse part about this place is the employees who actually do the work and deal with customers with personalities in every category aren’t allowed to keep the tips given by customers! Management distributes the tips amongst themselves, my advice: if you want to waste money on a overpriced grocery store ice cream with rodent feces on your toppings, enjoy! 😉 other than that, I do not recommend this place because of its unfairness to employees and cleanliness of the business.

Yelp
My family and I were visiting the Santa Monica Pier for Labor Day Weekend. My son was in the mood for ice cream, so we decided to stop here for an ice cream cone. There was a short line and wait. My son had vanilla, and we had the Cookie Monster ice cream in a waffle cone. I must say, the Cookie Monster did not disappoint. It was overpriced for the two orders of ice cream, but that is expected given that we are in a high tourist area.

Kiara P.

Yelp
Strolling on the Santa Monica Pier and ice cream sounded so good. Can't go wrong with cookies and cream. No need for extra cookie toppings. Plenty of cookies inside.

William C.

Yelp
The ice cream was great. I will say the portions could be larger for what you pay but it was delicious. Located on Santa Monica pier it was a perfect treat to combat the heat on our hot summer day.

Yelp
Review is exclusively for the funnel cake with ice cream I waiting for the sun to set and wanted a snack lol so I went here and got the funnel cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was ssssoo good it's big enough for 2! And the flavors were yummy! Nice and crispy

Joe P.

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday not busy, I got a banana bread sundae. It was one of the specials of the day. Came with two generous scoops of vanilla. Only one person working at the time.

Sami B.

Yelp
This ice cream place has REALLY GOOD FUNNEL CAKE. Crunchiest one I've ever had, (so much better than what I've had in the Disney Magic Kingdom) Had the strawberry & cream flavor with ice cream added. Perfect combination with vanilla ice cream. Very delicious ! I would love try Oreo ice cream & chocolate sauce as topping next time. I think there seems to be less wait than other funnel cake places in Santa Monica Pier (compared to the funnel cake shop at main pier entrance), so it was plus. This one is located in front of the rollercoaster rides.

Chelsea E.

Yelp
Pretty standard board walk ice cream joint (let's be honest, is it even a boardwalk if there isn't a scoop stand?). I wanted to grab ice cream (my fave treat) after dinner nearby. And given it was my first time in Santa Monica, I had to make sure I walked the pier. When we initially got there, the line wasn't moving at all! Eventually a worker came out and said that their credit card machines were down and they had to close for the next hour. We were bummed, but continued to walk the boardwalk. On our way back (about 15 mins later) they were reopened and people were walking away with ice cream, so we got back in line. Line moves quickly, but once you place your order, you're standing around for quite awhile. I think the issue is that they also make funnel cakes so if anyone in front of you got a funnel cake, it takes longer to make that than scoop ice cream. I got the Cookie Monster and Carmel in a waffle cone. I will say that the Carmel ice cream is fantastic! It was so creamy and smooth. Delicious Carmel flavor! I would have given them 4 stars if that were the only flavor I got. However, I was really unimpressed with the Cookie Monster. It's a creative idea since they put both Oreo cookies and cookie dough chunks in it and then dye it blue but to make it look like THE Cookie Monster. But the ice cream wasn't nearly as creamy as the other one and the cookie dough they use has to be the most bottom-barrel cookie dough I've ever tasted. It's cut up into squares and barely tasted anything like cookie dough. I just felt like it was super cheap dough (if you can even call it that). So that was a waste of calories. If I go back, I'd stick with just the Carmel and be good to go!

Yelp
Ice cream was good. Service was about the worst. They served literally a dozen people that ordered after us first then gave massive attitude when we asked where our order was.

Linon R.

Yelp
Service here is horrible, overhyped. Waited for my order for 20 minutes, they served people who ordered after me with no problem. When I went and asked about my order, they gave me a huge attitude for THEIR mistake. To add on to that, the workers didn't apologize for the wait or mistake that they made on their part. They then went on to serve me a funnel cake with only vanilla ice cream on top when i paid $19.00 for the CLASSIC funnel cake that comes with Strawberries and whipped cream. The manager and or shift lead had to intervene to give me the strawberries, but no whipped cream after waiting 20 minutes...ridiculous. They made a mistake and were rude to me for what? Waiting patiently? I also noticed half of them in there had full on accents, probably from europe? Either way not from here and as a local, 100% reason why they were RUDE as hell. Never coming here again and very disappointed. Trust that this place only gets customers cause of tourists. Do better.

Annabelle R.

Yelp
Scoops has everything you'd expect from an amusement park/touristy spot like Santa Monica Pier... colorful menu, long lines, and overpriced treats! But that's just part of the experience so it's not a big deal to me, and I just enjoy the atmosphere. It's located near the ferris wheel at Pacific Park, and though there was a line, it wasn't "Disneyland" long, and moved fairly quickly. The customer service was standard, so nothing to complain about there. I really wanted a funnel cake, but I wanted ice cream more! My partner and I ended up getting the cookie monster (blue ice cream) and a scoop of chocolate flavor with assorted nuts topping. Yumm! What a perfect treat for a warm summer day. Nothing too fancy about it, but nonethless enjoyed it while watching street performers from a distance. Even with the crowds, we still found seating at a table fairly easily, so that's a plus. By the way, if you get your ice cream in a cup (instead of cone), they don't give spoons, you get those flat wooden sticks... but they were sufficient.

Clara C.

Yelp
Waaay over priced dessert here, but what can you do when it's so hot in Santa Monica! The line was so long on my visit here. There are so many locals and tourists alike. This is located on the pier just under the ferris wheel. Order window is on one side, and pick up window is the other side. There should only be one line. I like that they serve Lappert's ice cream here. The flavors are good - I recommend Cookie Monster or the sea salt caramel. They have waffle cones, dippin dots, and funnel cakes as well. They will call out your name when the food is ready, so stick around for it.

Fiit Vs F.

Yelp
One of my favorite treat spots to stop at whenever I hit the pier. My go to order is the Cookie Monster which is cookies and cream in a vibrant blue color.

Maira R.

Yelp
A perfect shop for the pier, grab yourself a cone and pray a bird doesn't steal it from you (because that's happened on two occasions in my experience). Is it expensive? Yes. Do we hate paying? Yes. Do we come back? Always. What more can we expect from the number one tourist spot in the Los Angeles coast- The Santa Monica Pier? It's all supply and demand, yo. Don't tell anyone, but for me, funnel cakes are my weakness. Kryptonite, I can handle. Fried batter topped with a sprinkle of powdered sugar? Now, that's where I go weak! I would probably pay $30 for a funnel cake if I had the means and the strong desire for one. Today, I paid about $12. I paid another $4 for them to add a big scoop of strawberry ice cream. I'm telling you, money is no issue when it comes to the things I love- food. My friend ordered a single scoop of ice cream in a cup (pretty large size). My total came out to a little over $20. Aside from this little shop, I've only ever had funnel cakes at fairs and amusement parks. So, I consider myself pretty fortunate to not have to pay admission to get my grippy little hands on this dish. I enjoyed every single bite I took, it was delicious! I was guilty eating it the entire time, just because I couldn't believe I was eating the entire thing on my own. Well, I did. The staff was very friendly! They were welcoming and patient when taking orders. You place your order and pay in the first window, are given your ticket and told to wait near the second window to receive your order. It's pretty quick! I love this place.

Yelp
I stopped by Scoops with my boyfriend to enjoy some ice cream on a hot day. The prices here are hiked up for being a tourist spot on the pier, but that's to be expected! Curious about this blue ice cream everyone seemed to keep ordering, and after inquiring, I learned it's called the Cookie Monster. It's filled with gobs of cookie dough and Oreo... and of course there's some blue food coloring! The ice cream was melting off the cone the second I set my hands on it, which made it very difficult to eat. I felt like I almost couldn't even enjoy it when a good amount ended up in my hair and on my clothes. A few hours after eating the ice cream, my boyfriend and I got horrible stomach aches! Usually we can pound ice cream like there is no tomorrow, so this was pretty unusual. Perhaps the AC units weren't working properly and the ice cream spoiled a bit before it was served to us. The ice cream definitely made for a cute picture but wasn't quite worth the upset stomachs afterwards!

Aalia A.

Yelp
It's good ice cream. Basic. Simple. Not much to it. Cotton candy and Cookie Monster are my fave of their flavors. $6 for a cake cone $6.75 for a waffle cone.

Alizen R.

Yelp
So expensive but it's the only ice cream/funnel cake store on the pier. For as long as I've remembered, this place has been here since the day I first started coming to the Santa Monica Pier. Scoops has the ability of charging ridiculous prices for their food because they're located in the middle of the pier and nobody wants to walk miles away just to get a sweet treat. The line is usually long but goes by pretty quickly. You place your order in one window and wait for it (for what honestly seems like forever) at the second window. The ice cream flavors are more than just your average chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. My boyfriend opted for the single scoop of the Cookie Monster ice cream (Oreos and cookie dough mixed in a blue ice cream) and loved it. I decided to try out their funnel cake with sugar and strawberry toppings. Pro tip: if you like your funnel cakes a little soggy due to syrup then opt for the strawberry. If not, I recommend keeping it simple. Overall, Im not exactly dying to go back in line to get another order of their goodies but hey, this is a cute place to go to if you wanna buy a treat for your date or for the 'gram. (77/100)

Yelp
My husband and I went to the Santa Monica pier specifically because he wanted Lappert's brand ice cream. He was looking forward to a scoop of Kawaii pie all day. We found a very limited selection of ice cream flavors when we got to Scoops. My husband was disappointed. My husband decided to go with a scoop of the sea salted Carmel and a scoop of chocolate. I choose Cookie Monster. All the flavors were incredibly creamy. I wasn't especially impressed with the flavor of the Cookie Monster ice cream. The sea salted Carmel was the best Carmel ice cream both of us have had. We both enjoy the flavor of the chocolate ice cream. We are glad we visited the pier, but can take or leave the ice cream treats.

Meri K.

Yelp
I ordered a milkshake. 1/2 mint chip and 1/2 chocolate. They too with whip cream and a cherry which was nice. Just a quick stop on the "midway" portion of the Santa Monica Pier; Pacific Park.

Alex J.

Yelp
For one of the biggest tourist traps in Los Angeles, this ice cream actually isn't half bad and decently priced. The prices are in line with any normal ice cream shop on a tourist hot spot so no real complaints there. The lack of flavors seems to be the biggest issue here. There are normal flavors and then a few unique ones like Kauai Pie which we ordered in a cup, as well as cookies and cream in a waffle cone totaling $14. Both ice creams were creamy, soft, and had good flavors. The cookies and cream had a lot of cookies! The Kauai had a good coconut and coffee taste with nice amounts of chocolate mixed in. The waffle cone for the cookies and cream however was stale and very fragile, not sturdy or fresh like a waffle cone should be. Another issue is the dirtiness of the public counters, those are definitely not cleaned with all the sticky melted ice cream and dirty napkins and spoons everywhere.

Anna P.

Yelp
I thought I wasn't going to have a funnel cake for this year knowing that there won't be no fairs opening this year. Had a fun day at the Santa Monica Pier, we found outdoor seating and was able to munch on this awesome funnel cake topped with vanilla ice cream. The pier was opened except the carnival with the rides and games were closed due to Covid. Luckily the beach was open, also gift shops and restaurants. This will be my weekend spot.

Cam G.

Yelp
This place better be glad they have good ice cream! The ice cream was really good I have no complaints in the ice cream! We had the banana cream ice cream and it was amazing! On the other hand we waited nearly 10 minutes for one ice cream cone and the service was terrible! The guy who took our order was very rude and wouldn't even give us any napkins! For the location of this shop y'all would be way more busy if you could speed up the service!

Camila T.

Yelp
Came here on a busy Friday night, got a strawberry funnel cake and plain powdered sugar, they were Bomb! Erin made the experience even better, she was so kind, and very attending! 10/10 recommend!

Louise O.

Yelp
One scoop is 7$ and the ice cream tastes like it came straight out of a vending machine. There are very limited flavors available. Only reason to get ice cream from this shop is because of its location on the pier.

Alina Q.

Yelp
Funnel cake is quite honestly a staple of any carnival! Scoops was our choice because it had a greater variety than the other funnel cake options on the boardwalk. We had the strawberry with cookies and cream ice cream. It was HUGE! You definitely need to split that among a large family of 7. Of course, it was no match for me and my coworker! Its hard to hear the order number so pay attention. The service was just fine. Overall the Scoops experience was just that, fine.

LaToya TopNotch A.

Yelp
The kids loved it! The cotton candy ice cream with the waffle cone is amazing and so was the funnel cake

Timmy S.

Yelp
Located on the Santa Monica Pier, near the roller coaster and other rides, is this ice cream booth. You order at one window and pick up your treat at another window. The courteous staff did a good job of moving the line quickly and the orders came up fast too. They have about 10 flavors to choose from. You can get your ice cream in a waffle cone or in a cup or perhaps choose to have a banana split or sundae. I got a scoop of chocolate ice cream with caramel sauce in a cup. It was really good and they were generous with the sauce. My friend had rainbow sherbet in a waffle cone and said it was excellent. It's overpriced but certainly you'd expect that at a tourist trap like the pier.

Brenda L.

Yelp
The flavors were great and despite the long line the orders came out quick. The price is average for the location but the ice cream was delicious according to those who ate it. I would totally recommend their ice cream, next time we might try something else.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Their cookie monster ice cream on a cone was so so yummy. It had a chocolate chip and the color was a bright neon blue that reminds exactly me of the cookie monster ice cream at "Afters Icecream." I hate that it drips so take as much napkins as needed. Its right in the Santa Monica Pier.

Rowena B.

Yelp
It's expensive, it's on the pier, and apparently with organic ice cream! I had a waffle cone with coconut pineapple and his was sea salt caramel. Mine had heaps of flavour, his wasn't so flavourful but really creamy. Mine was a bit skimpy in comparison too

Soraya N.

Yelp
Fabulous and delicious ice cream. It feels good to have warm- cold ice cream in there. I suggest to just get one for two people because sharing makes you to feel less guilty ... lol . The top cream is very light and it will add more flavor. Have fun .

Tiff C.

Yelp
Expensive, tasty, but overall nothing special. On a Monday night, a short line which moved fast, and you go over to another window to pickup your order. That came out quickly as well. On the menu, they try to give their flavors exotic descriptions to give the illusion you're getting something unique and different, but it's as basic as you can get. Mint chip quality wasn't any better than an Edy's at the supermarket. The chocolate wasn't dutch chocolate, but a richer chocolate taste. It was good, but not "Wow". The scoops are large and I opted for a cup since it would be easier to eat then a cone. A cone would be more expensive, but even my cup with two scoops cost $9 and some change. Overall, it was a nice snack to have on a cool night on the Pier. Pay for the experience, not the ice cream itself.

Ralph H.

Yelp
Going to get to the point here....came here for the Dipping Dots. I think one of my favorite type of ice cream ever. They have plenty of other options in the menu like funnel cakes, ice cream in cones, drinks. The staff was friendly and helpful. They did take a little long to pour some Dipping Dot's into a cup since there is no preparation necessary for what I ordered but it wasn't too bad. This place can get real packed so avoid peak hours. It is located right in front of the pier rides entrance so you cant miss it.

Scarlet G.

Yelp
If you're touring the area and want some thrifty ice cream this is the place to go to. I guess because it is a tourist area it should not be a surprise that they are over charging. The fudge was pretty decent. They allow one free sample.

Claire L.

Yelp
The funnel cakes and ice creams there are delicious, and the view on the ocean only makes them better. I just wish it wasn't so pricey... I would probably go more often if it wasn't so expensive.

Lulu R.

Yelp
The funnel cake was good as well ice cream the reason I'm giving a one star was service and how dirty they are! employees are super dirty I saw the scooper for ice cream didn't have water where they placed them and reused for other ice creams without cleaning them second most of the employees don't have gloves or have ripped gloves and there hands were filled with ice cream not to mention they were all playing around especially with the mic including there supervisor named Robert instead of helping out ! Third it gets better a employee gave me a funnel cake that's been sitting out for 20 mins since no one was picking up with whipped cream melted and soggy I asked where's the whipped cream and can I get another one he went in the back decided to reapply whipped cream in the funnel cake he gave me all messy with water down whipped cream and said take it or leave it I try asking for his supervisor and was like why you don't need him !! He was rude not to mention all employees are untrained how do funnel cakes properly the funnel cakes don't look like the pictures instead is overdosed ice cream with melted turd shape whipped cream I'm thankful there lead I think Mynor was his name gave us a well nice funnel cake and was more responsible than his supervisor

Ece K.

Yelp
Nothing special here. Just your basic ice cream shop. The prices are a little steep and the wait was kind of long. It is the main ice cream shop on their pier so it's probably the best bet if you are in the area. I tried the banana sundae. I honestly don't have very much to say about it, it was just average.

Zoie F.

Yelp
Oh my gosh so delicious! I'm a huge fan of dippin dots and I love the fact that you can get it here. Super delicious! The rainbow flavor is the best :).

Ali M.

Yelp
I wasn't even in the mood for ice cream but after seeing so many people pass by with a waffle cone I had to do it. I tried strawberry and Pineapple/Coconut on a waffle cone. The waffle cone was so yummy and the ice cream was too. Only negative I would mention is that the ice cream was melting like crazy by the time I got it. I literally had to beast on the ice cream before it was a complete mess, making me eat it way faster than I would have liked.

Josh B.

Yelp
Rhett was not very nice. He picks the easiest orders to make no matter what order they came in. He would rather scoop ice cream for people that were in line behind me than to make my funnel cake. I had to wait extra long because he didn't want to make it in time. That is not nice. Very disappointed with this visit. Because of Rhett.

George C.

Yelp
Come here for the cookie monster ice cream! It's a wonderful treat for a hot summer day. They usually have a long line but it goes pretty fast. Nice selection of ice creams for sure and it won't hurt your wallet.

Alan S.

Yelp
It's a solid ice cream place. Not superlative but nothing wrong with it either. Tends to have a long line since there aren't many other ice cream options here. People are really gaga over the cookie monster ice cream which includes oreos, cookie dough, and blue flavored ice cream...I call it blue flavored since it really did not have a discernible flavor of it's own that I could tell. I was a bit meh about it but loved the salted caramel and enjoyed the waffle cone too. If you really want to get your blue ice cream fix on it's not a bad option I guess but I think the other flavors are solid...don't believe the blue hype!

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
So for a small cup of Dippin Dots it is $6.75, $7.30 with tax. $7.30!!! For a SMALL!!! Why not just charge $20???!!! That price is so stupidly high, it is insulting! No wonder there was no line to purchase. I will NEVER buy this ridiculously expensive frozen dessert again!

Jinny P.

Yelp
Oh my funnel cake.. you was disgustingly greasy but wonderfully tasty. Crunchy on the outside, doughy and warm on the inside. It hit my fried & sweet carbs spot perfectly. Not sure where else you can get these. I suppose you could make them at home or look for them at state fairs. If I go back to the pier, I would shamelessly get it again and eat it all.

Vats A.

Yelp
Scoops was the only place on the Santa Monica Pier that was selling funnel cakes. I can't speak to their ice cream options, but the funnel cake they serve is A-1. You can add whatever toppings you would like to the order. We kept it classic with only powdered sugar on top. They call your order out by name and you can pick up your food at the second counter. Seating is at the red picnic tables that are being monitored closely by pigeons and seagulls. Doesn't seem like this place is all too special or unique, but they have the goods you need to satisfy your craving.

Jack M.

Yelp
A most touristy ice cream scoop & dessert shop located on the Santa Monica Pier. As such is located in one of the most touristy areas of Los Angeles proper, it wasn't surprising that this was also reflected in the price of the items (expensive). Ordered a funnel cake with powder on it. As for quality of it? It came out okay, good, and tasty, but certainly nothing mind-blowing or noteworthy beyond the moment. However, service here is decent though it does help that there are multiple windows where this place takes your order. Seating located nearby via a bunch of benches. Overall, not particularly somewhere I'd consider coming to again more than once due to being expensive & mediocre food quality. You'd be better off spending your money elsewhere & getting better quality food/ice cream at a much more reasonable price point.

Jesus R.

Yelp
Good ice cream, Rude employee serving ice cream. I ordered 5 scoops, 1 scoop was served and my name was called. When I informed the lady I ordered 5 scoops she replied, "Hole on,I only have two hands". Last time buying there.

K S.

Yelp
Cookie Monster ice cream is to die for!! One scoop on a waffle cone ~$7 but so worth it!

Rob B.

Yelp
Hands down the worst ice cream I've ever had. What is more frustrating is that it was also the most expensive scoop of ice cream I've ever had.
