If you're looking for GREAT pizza and wings with a kick of that small town restaurant feel.. this is that place! Wings are some of the best around and the pizza was very good! Service was phenomenal as well!! Absolutely zero complaints!! We will definitely be back here! 🤩

Google
Grilled chicken salad for lunch. Tasted good, except the lettuce was room temperature and the shredded cheese melted because of the chicken. Service was slow, but the server was nice. Will likely go back, just seems like it may have gone down hill slightly.

Google
Most of the tables needed to be cleaned and cleared. The waitress was slow and rarely checked on us. We ordered 3 pizzas. 1 was fresh and 1 was hot and fresh. The other two sat way too long and resembled warm gas station pizza. The onion rings were hot and fresh. The floors needed a serious sweeping. It was a horrible experience. I honestly would not go back.

Google
Was really excited to try this restaurant. I was very disappointed in the service an quality of the pasta, chicken, an "grilled veggies". The wings an appetizer sampler were good as well as the pizza but the pasta was not good at all. The veggies were frozen mix veggies an the chicken was either canned or frozen diced chicken.

Google
Elite pizza but menu is full of FIRE. Even Better people. My construction crew and I had a hard Friday , busted our asses through lunch break and got rained on. Owner greeted our group with open arms, gave a place to park our muddy boots. Kind, fun accommodating.

Google
I was in lowa for a work trip and found this spot on goggle maps, it did not disappoint at all! Very quaint mom and pop spot and everything was great from the house made creamy Romano dressing to the Lasagna with the house made sauce and Perfect garlic toast. I will definitely be returning if ever in the area!

Google
Classic Italian fair from a long standing staple in Des Moines. I went for lunch at 11 during the week. The outside isn't overly welcoming, but that didn't deter me. Separate dining areas inside- bar seating, traditional dining room, plus a party room available to rent. I had cavateli, onion rings, and a piece of cake. And a salad. LOL! Hungry hippo day I guess. The onion rings were great- not thin or thick, nice balance in between. Salad dressing (house romano) divine. Garlic toast perfectly toasted. The cavateli wasn't a favorite, totally just my taste. Generous portion sizes so I got 3 meals out of my order. Except the cake, I ate every morsel of that perfect concoction. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the wait. I was there for an hour and a half for lunch. Everything came out slow. I didn't have any place to be, but that's too long. I realize lots of peope enjoy a long lunch, I wanted to eat and be on with my day. 😀 Have ordered pizza for delivery and it was really good. Hot upon delivery. Hot wings yummy, too. Definitely a great option for Des Moines in the Italian scene.

Started and ended my travel week to Des Moines with Scornovaca’s! My favorite pizza in town with crispy crust, flavorful sausage and hand-breaded rings!

Yelp
Best pizza in IOWA. Trust me. I'm 100% Italian and I crave a good pizza. Scorno fits that bill easily. Try it. You can thank me after

Yelp
Ordered a medium pizza and two side salads to go. Pizza is quite good. The side salads at $6.75 each were laughably small. Basically chopped lettuce with a thin slice of tomato one pepperoncini and a few shredded carrots. Complete rip off for the price. I consider a salad an important part of the meal and the entire experience was ruined by this joke of a menu item. GoCan't comment on the pasta dishes.

Yelp
Used to frequent this place beck when I lived in DM years ago. Great Midwest style pizza. Garlic cheese bread was not spectacular and could have stayed in the oven a little longer.

Yelp
We hadn't been in a Scornovaccas since the 1980s when Val Vacca had a location in Pleasant Hill... we drive by all the time and decided to drive down from the East Side... We were seated immediately and placed our order quickly getting cauliflower appetizers and drinks quickly The all meat pizza was cooked to perfection and loaded with lots of toppings... Our waitress Mariah P deserves special recognition as being attentive and friendly making sure we were well taken take of even though they were busy... her personality shines! I appreciate a person with a good attitude who likes people and Mariah is an asset who needs recognition! We tipped accordingly and I believe in catching people doing things RIGHT! And she DOES! We will definitely Be back!

Yelp
Service was polite but not timely. Waited almost a half hour before having our order taken. Only two servers for dinner service.

Yelp
Scornovacca's shocked me with how good their cavatelli is. I was really impressed and will definitely be back. Their limoncello mascarpone cake was great too. For context, I have had really bad experiences with Italian food in Des Moines because the Iowa version of Italin food is very Americanized. The last authentic Italy-style Italian food (Plus39) closed its Des Moines location in 2018. That being said, I found Scornovacca's to be much better than ALL of its competitors in Des Moines.

Yelp
Great Sunday night at Scorno's. Our server was quick and professional and you could tell she was good at her job. We complimented her on the way out and she said she'd been there two years, they are lucky to have her. We got a bottle of vino, a couple of beers, a fantastic salad and two small pizzas. The salad was plenty for 2-3 to share and the dressing was tasty. The pizzas were south side classic and nearly perfect. The crust was crispy and yeasty and they use plenty of sauce. One conclusion, having pizza at the restaurant is the way to go as the quality after steaming in the box for 15 minutes just isn't fair. It would still be great but just not the same. Scorno's is with the trip.

Yelp
This is a pepperoni with "extra cheese". Typically, I rave about this pizza but the sauce tasted super sweet and for extra cheese this is not acceptable! Large pizza with pepperoni and extra cheese = $20

Yelp
Good food , better than washing your hair on a Saturday night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Worked as a contractor at the Altoona restaurant and ate at the new Urbandale location keep up the great quality always amazing. Gary is a great owner

Yelp
While on a recent trip to Des Moines I found myself getting a serious case of the munchies and only an ooey, gooey pizza would work. I ran across Scornovacca's on Uber Eats so did what anybody else would do and went to Yelp to check out the reviews. I was a little disappointed that it only had 3.5 stars so I decided to read the reviews. For the most part people were thrilled with their pizza. It was the complainers who brought down what should be a much higher rating!! I can only imagine how good this pizza would have been in the restaurant because it was amazing at my hotel. We got one with all the meats and had some fresh mozzarella added for good measure. Delicious!!!

Margaret M.

Yelp
Do not get the margarita pizza. It is my family's consensus that it is the worse pizza we have ever had. The crust was thick, chewy, and underdone. The sause was tasteless. The toppings were 1/2 slices of bland tomatoes with a plasticity slice of mozzarella on top. The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is that the Hawaiian was decent.

Yelp
We have placed 2 delivery orders in the past 2-weeks and both orders have been deliciously perfect and piping hot. We are a 12 min drive from Scornovacca's on S.E. 14th St., Dsm. Grub Hub and Uber Eats delivered. Thoroughly impressed!

Tyler K.

Yelp
Love the pizza! Honestly a staple of the southside in Des Moines and it carries a long tradition of quality. If I'm ordering pizza it's from here. Period

Michael M.

Yelp
Absolutely best pizza on the planet! the deluxe is my go to, and the cavatelli with meat sauce will change your life . Great people!

Jason I.

Yelp
I ordered two large pizzas today and used a gift card given to me by a friend. The server said the card was already used (it wasn't) and then said I owed $16. I looked at the receipt later and she charged me for an employee's lunch there. I checked the balance of the gift card and it is exactly hat should have been left after paying for the pizzas. Something smells fishy. No fun getting scammed

Yelp
Had an early dinner on Saturday about 4:30. Staff was friendly but the place could have been cleaner. Our table had something sticky underneath and the wall was splattered with spaghetti sauce. Ordered a few beers, a deluxe pizza and tenderloin for the whole table. Also started with some hot wings and onion rings. I was disappointed in the onion rings, they seemed like the ones you'd get from a frozen bag. Overall, the fried items could have been crisper for my liking. The pizza was hot and had an ample amount of toppings. Overall, food was okay but I'm not sure I'd make a special trip here for the food.

Deanna B.

Yelp
The food was Delicious and Rocco always gives us excellent service, he is kind and courteous and very attentive! We come here for the food but Rocco it is always nice to see Rocco!!! 5 stars
google avatar

Luke M.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner on a sat. Enjoyed a couple beers each and some apps to start. Onion rings are a smaller style with some crunch. Wings are good with a little heat. Pizza was full of toppings but slightly bland. Tenderloin had a beautiful bun, but was mediocre. Mustard comes in packets only. I honestly expected a little more from my first visit here. Especially for the money spent. Service was good and attentive.

Yelp
Stopped and got it to go . Tasted like old school Scornovaccas . Think it's hit and miss ... but definitely a hit this time! Best pizza I've had in awhile!

Yelp
I was traveling from California and wanted some tasty pizza. This place was fabulous! I enjoyed every bite and the service was awesome!!

Yelp
We decided to stop here for dinner on a whim Saturday night. We ordered the Cavatelli with chicken and a margarita pizza. The pasta was decent and the salad that came before it was fresh. The house dressing is delicious. The pizza was a different story. Now, to be fair, we did not say anything until the end of the meal after we debated about bringing it up. We asked our server out of three pizza options she would recommend, and she said to go with the margarita. When the pizza came it looked like just red sauce, cheese, and tomato. We did eat 3/4 of the pizza since we were hungry. At the end of the meal I asked "are we missing the basil and balsamic?" And were told "we're out of basil and it doesn't come with balsamic unless you ask for it". I'm more confused than upset as to why something would be served differently than how it's listed in the menu, and also why someone would recommend something knowing you're out of its ingredients. If we wanted a cheese pizza with tomato, we would've ordered that. Large specialty pizza was $24. Service was fine otherwise. The buildings interior is obviously older. We'll probably try another Italian joint next time.

Yelp
While I was in town for a Lions Convention this restaurant was recommended. What a great family place. The owner made us fell like family. I recommend the pizza. After our party was over the owner even came out and showed us how to play bocce ball. Thanks for the recommendation and for making us fell like family.

Ted B.

Yelp
Top 3 pizza place in Des Moines no question. Only knock on the place is make sure you tell them crispy on the pizza if you like your pizza with a crunch.
google avatar

Sumita B.

Yelp
I have never been here before, but always drive past it while I am out and about the Southside. Bruschetta--is on point! It definitely did not disappoint. Nice chunks of fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and toasted bread. Nice drizzle of balsamic and sliced basil. Order it! Ordered lunch sized pizza and it comes with side salad. About the size of a small dinner plate. Good quick service from staff.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in with my mask I was given an attitude by an older lady that I used the wrong door to pick up my take out order. Anyways, the pizza was average and the cheese sticks look cheap and are gross and would be the embarrassed to sell them if I had a restraunt. I came here to the restraunt when I was I was younger and can say it has went down hill ever since and won't return.

Kathryn C.

Yelp
I went last week to the Urbandale location (although I couldn't find that specific location on Yelp). We had a reservation for days for a party of 8, so they knew we were coming. This is important for later. There was one waitress working the entire restaurant. It was a lot to handle for just one person. So, while I give her kudos, there were a few things I didn't understand. First, she brought out the salads. Perplexing that everyone got their salad BUT me. It's not that I was starving, but it was awkward to sit there 15 minutes while my friends ate their salads and I had nothing. When I called her over to ask, she said something like "I know. I just haven't had time to make another salad." As a former waitress myself, I couldn't figure out why she just didn't bring them all out together? Eventually mine came out, and another employee showed up to help. Hurrah! Next was the entrees. Everyone's came out except...can you guess? Yep, the newly added waitress said, "Yours is delayed." Of course. So, again I sat there. There was no mention of any compensation, here's something while you wait, etc. I got pasta with meatballs. It was okay at best. I will not be in a hurry to return here.

Yelp
It was ok....just kind of ok. While in Iowa for a business trip I decided to order delivery. My 20oz come came in 2 8oz styrofoam cups....smh. The pizza does look like the pizza in the pictures but it was pretty generic. Also the chicken Alfredo was very bland. It satisfied my hunger but I would've preferred more flavor.

Yelp
If you don't like scornos pizza, go get the number 3 meals at mcds, because you don't understand good food. This is a pizza city, and scornos is one of the greats. You can't lose with their pizza or cavatelli. Excellent food highly recommended. Legendary restaurant. I miss the old locale at 75th and Douglas, back in the day

Toni S.

Yelp
my mother just called to simply ask if the Urbandale IA location had a phone number. Rocco answered the phone. When she asked her question he said "it doesn't open for 4 more months" she tired to say "I didn't realize that" but Rocco instead hung up the phone on her. She simply was calling to support your business and as being an OWER that's completely disrespectful of you to be so rude and hang up on her as she was still trying to speak. Do better Rocco especially when someone is trying to support your business!

Yelp
Omg the best taco pizza I've had right here. Da get about a Caseys, if you want great taste get your taco pizza here. Trust me you'll thank me later. Yes this is a small and I devoured it within 20 minutes and still am full 5 hrs later.

Yelp
Miss their Northside location. Decided to try out this one. Impressed with staff aiding us getting in and out. Wheelchair accessibility was accomplished well with staff assistance. Food was great as well. Noticed a wider option on the menu here compared to the other location's menu. Interior was classy and more upscale at this location. Thank you to the gentlemen for being so helpful with entering and exiting the restaurant.... that means way more than you know!

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim on a Friday night to the South side location. It was around 7:30 so I think we missed the dinner rush which meant we got seated pretty quickly. We ordered pizzas. I got the bacon cheeseburger which came with beef pickles cheddar and mozzarella cheese and onions. It also comes with ketchup and mustard but I don't like those so I asked to get it without. My dining companion got sausage and pepperoni. The pepperoni was very thin so some pieces were crispy and the sausage had a spicy kick to it that she really liked. The crust was thin and crunchy just the way I like it. You don't get to choose what thickness you get for the crust, all their crust is the same. I did not see a gluten-free option on the menu when it came to the pizzas. They also had an array of pastas, sandwiches, and various fried appetizers. We really liked the sauce, the crunchy crust, and the thick layer of cheese so we will definitely be back.

Mindi J.

Yelp
My Favorite pizza place! Great service and love the family style decor in the south side location. Anxious to have the new location in Urbandale open closer to me :)

Brooklyn S.

Yelp
Great pizza I like that the crust is thin but can stand up to the toppings and sauce. I've had the meat lovers as well as a build your own smaller size and the buffalo chicken wings. Both times the food arrived hot and everything was made as requested. This is now one of my go to spots for consistently good pizza!!
google avatar

Genna S.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I wanted to try a local pizza place but was limited on a Sunday. I would describe the pizza as medium crust thickness verging on thin with plenty of toppings. Service was fine and the place is what you'd expect for an old local joint. I would like to check out their back patio and bocce ball sometime. Overall, wasn't blown away but it was good!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
On a cold Friday night my girlfriend and I were looking for local (non-chain) restaurants that delivered food and came across Scornovaccas'. Delivery on a Friday night was quick (under an hour) and hot. We ordered the combo platter (onion rings, fried cauliflower, fried mushrooms, baked ravioli and homemade cheese sticks) - it was delish! The cheese sticks were out of this world and the onion rings were good as well, the other items were for the most part what you would expect them to be. For our main entrees, she ordered the Cavatelli with no meat/alfredo sauce and I ordered the Baked Chicken Romano - both same with salads with their homemade romano sauce and garlic bread. My entree was fantastic - made at least two meals out of it - meat and noodles were cooked just right along with the right amount of sauce and cheese. Hers was good as well - very alfredoy and cheesy. Overall, if you're looking for some good authentic Italian food with the additional bonus of having it delivered, than check out Scronovaccas' you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Excellent food every time we go!! We live in the Kansas City area and never miss a chance when we're in Des Moines to eat here. My wife was raised there and has been eating at Scornovacca's since she was a child. The recipes still taste the same she says. It's great to support a local family business and the food is wonderful.
google avatar

Mindy M.

Yelp
Quaint little casual joint, near some rough looking parts of town. This place was a disappointment. It was just eh......ok.... Homemade onion rings not bad for cornmeal breading. The pizza looked So promising, with the thin crust and generous toppings. But, it just was very bland- No zip! We also ordered extra sauce, and sure didn't seem like extra at all: and got charged an unknown $1.50. The one bright note was a side of their 'house' dressing/sauce , like a creamy Parmesan.... now that was Good!!

D S.

Yelp
Ordered a pretty large order to go and it was easily accommodated. Our entire order was perfect nothing missing. Everything we got was delicious. When I went inside to pick up the food I sat down at the bar to wait and got a drink. The bar is small but cozy and quiet. The atmosphere is lovely. The staff were all so kind as well. Will definitely be returning. Also the bruschetta we ordered is the best I have ever had.
google avatar

Deb J.

Yelp
I love the food, although a little miffed that they quit delivery of the lunch specials...HOWEVER...I've been asking for over A YEAR that they update the prices on their ONLINE MENUS. We order as a group and whoever places the order gets screwed, because they don't collect the right amount of money using menu prices and have to make up the difference when they pay for the order. Either that or the driver gets a considerably smaller tip than they normally would. We keep getting excuses about the menu not being updated...it's BAD BUSINESS!!!
google avatar

Sarai G.

Yelp
Great service! First time coming and People here are very friendly. Wanted something warm and they said they didn't have the tea that was on the menu so we took hot chocolate instead. The server came back soon tho offering us a type of tea bag that she had found, which I thought was very considerate to go out of her way to get us what we wanted. We stuck to the hot chocolate tho and we don't regret it! It's sooo good, something about it is unique. The food is delicious. Love the cheese sticks and salsa they have for appetizers I'd like to come back (:

Shannon W.

Yelp
We stopped here tonight for national pizza day. The bruschetta was amazing. We ate it too fast for a picture, sorry. We got the pizza to go but decided to try a slice on our way home. It did not disappoint. Staff was very friendly as well. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Jason O.

Yelp
Piazza was bland, and the waitresses were slow. I waited ten minutes to get my bill. I could hear all of the gossip in the employee room, and it was very annoying.
google avatar

Todd C.

Yelp
Before you even ask: 1) I travel and not sure if I will be back and 2) it took an hour and twenty minutes to get THIS order, I will be in bed before the next gets here. I give this three stars because if by chance you get your order in under an hour and twenty minutes, this food would probably be good warm, however by the time it got here the food was warm at best which made the sauce crusty, the crust hard and the cheese dry. The mozzarella stick and fried ravioli is probably good, the sauces they include are really good (again better if warm). Ordered two cans of Pepsi and two bottles of water, when he showed up he said out of Pepsi (and apparently every store on the way over) and brought Dr Pepper instead. Now that I'm thinking of this, two stars. Won't order from again, too risky.

Michelle L.

Yelp
The pizza was good but the appetizers were a disaster! Everything from the onion rings, fried mushrooms/cauliflower and the cheese sticks were just plain bad. They were the quality of something you would buy out the the freezer section of a grocery store. So disappointed.

Brianna P.

Yelp
I wouldn't go out of my way to get this again nor pay for it. I got spaghetti and it has weird taste along with its being watered down. I was going to order more garlic bread I'm glad I didn't, I was just a sliced of bread with buttered barley any garlic and very lightly toasted. I just feel like I could of did a better job making it at home, but I want to support a business due to covid. Maybe later down the road I'll try it again.
google avatar

Marissa D.

Yelp
No. Just no. Slow service and absolutely everything was bland and completely flavorless. the prices were ridiculously high for the food we got. I'd rather eat at ANY chain "Italian" restaurant than at this place.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
Mediocre delivery pizza. We ordered three pies, including a sausage and mushroom and a combo. All the pies came with a good volume of toppings... but absolutely no flavor. The thin crust (their default) was cardboard-like, without any real flavor. The tomato sauce added nothing but color. The only pizza that really tasted like anything was the combo, which had a vague taste of vegetables? Genuinely, I don't know how one puts that much meat on a pizza and not get any flavor, but they've managed. Delivery was about an hour (which was what they quoted us over the phone) and came right up to our room. Wouldn't order again unless they were the only delivery game in town.
