Yesterday I made about an hour drive from Summerton to try this place and it did not disappoint. I picked up a Pulled Pork BBQ Plate and a family member got the 1/2 Chicken. It was worth the trip. The pulled pork by itself was good, wrapping it in the white bread and dipping it in the sauce puts it over the top. Because it is take out, just be aware there is outdoor seating, but if it is as hot as it has been here lately, plan to eat it in your car.

Google
This is the BEST BBQ in South Carolina ! Best I’ve ever had !! Omg ! I tried it today , and I’m still raving about it 😄I live an hour away , but I think I’m gonna have to go back tomorrow! It has this amazing smoky flavor and the sauce is perfect ! It is worth a drive . I’ve got to try their chicken and ribs ! I’m sure they are delicious as well !!! Wonderful food !!

Google
It isn't what it was. We had a winter place about half mile down the road for 2013 and 2014. We ate a lot of Rodney's bbq. Unfortunately when we ate there 6/6/25 the pork was not that good, the sides were not very big or very tasty. We did get very large portions of pork, but it wasn't even average. Scott's has always been our benchmark for whole hog bbq, but it ain't what it was.

Google
I heard about Scott’s while up north from a guy who had gone to school in Georgetown. I ordered the pork platter with beans and potato salad and the chicken platter with same sides. Everything thing was delicious, the chicken fell off the bone. Paying was easy with the different electronic cash options.

Google
We knew we were in the right place when we saw the oak wood lying around and the slight smell of smoke drifting. Scott’s combination of oak, cherry and whatever else they use, imparts a great flavor into the pork. The amount of pork on the plate is more than generous. We had slaw and beans, both sides were very tasty. The friendly staff and great food made for a great lunch. We live about 75 minutes away, but look forward to returning soon.

Google
If you're out this way, you have to stop here, it's also worth a side trip. This is the best barbecue in South Carolina and some of the best barbecue anywhere. You just have to go ahead and accept the fact that you're going to need to try everything. The ribs are amazing, the pulled pork is unique, and if they have the smoke chicken you have to get a whole smoked chicken as well. They do it old school and they do it right. You will not be disappointed.

Google
Traveling through SC and lucky to be around the area on a day it’s open, not exactly on our way but we made it on our way. CASH ONLY. Got there early on a Wednesday and tried the chicken, ribs, pulled pork, and the 3 sides offered. That plate was hefty! My partner and I shared and still had leftovers. Couldn’t believe how much food we got for the price. The chicken was great, the pulled pork was AMAZING, the ribs were my least favorite and they were still really good. The vinegar sauce is magical and I want to marry it. The sides were all meh and if I went back I wouldn’t order any but the slaw. The ladies inside were super nice and patient with us because we just wanted everything. Definitely worth going out of the way for.

Just what I expected and needed. Love the simplicity of the pork sandwich. Flavorful, juicy, and not overly Smokey. Watch the sauce, it has some heat.

Yelp
My family and I came in for lunch today. My wife and I are both BBQ enthusiasts and do a lot of smoking at home. So when we came to Myrtle Beach for our family vacation one of the things I really wanted to try was some great authentic whole hog Carolina BBQ. This is the place. I remember seeing Scott's come up on a few shows I had watched and I also saw Rodney on a few YouTube videos, so I was excited to try it out. There's a lot of history here. The staff here are all very welcoming and super friendly. The young women behind the counter were all very helpful. For food we went with the bbq plate, rib plate, and chicken plate. All of the meats were tender and delicious. In this region of Carolina the sauce is primarily a vinegar pepper sauce which I really enjoyed. The tables are set up in the perfect spot, right outside the hanger where they cook the meats... so all the delicious smells from the smoke and meats come wafting through. It's a great experience. My hats off to the staff and family for all their hard work and dedication to the craft. The foods delicious and made with love. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for some great whole hog bbq. Thanks again!

Yelp
Anywhere outside of Eastern Carolina should look to Scott's to learn how to make bbq (I'm looking at you upstate SC). This place doesn't miss!! They put on an absolute clinic on how to make bbq.

Yelp
Wow, where to start. We've watched countless YouTube documentaries, the Netflix special, and other food reviews on the original birthplace of Rodney. We've never made it a priority until recently to go out of our way one Friday to eat lunch at Scott's in Hemingway. I was absolutely blown away by the pork, beans, and potato salad. Loved the tangy BBQ sauce and the portions were huge! Only ding is they really need to invest a tiny bit of money on sprucing up a bit. I get the rustic and original nature of the place, but the flies are no joke and only place to eat is out in the lot (no screen) or in your car. Rodney needs to come back home and help out the ole family a little.

Yelp
Scott's Bar-B-Que has a an excellent reputation, and based on my experience yesterday, it is well-deserved. The restaurant is essentially a little store, but there are picnic tables outside. It is located outside of Hemingway, and it is worth the drive. I had a two meat plate of pulled pork and pork ribs. They were both outstanding. I also am a fan of the tangy vinegar sauce. (That was a completely new bbq sauce for me, and I am a fan!) I came in about 10 minutes before closing, and they had already put away the beans, which was a disappointment, because I like to judge a barbecue place also on its baked beans. However, the potato salad and coleslaw were quite good. I drove about 45 minutes out of the way to try Scott's Bar-B-Que, and I am very happy that I did.

Yelp
Just as it's been portrayed on the (many) tv shows I've seen about it--cash only, outdoor seating, very simple menu. That's what makes it so charming! Nice service, and absolutely delicious meat and sides. The potato salad was particularly delicious, but the beans are incredibly soft and unctuous as well! The sauce was sweet, with heat, and the vinegar base balanced it all beautifully. Worth the drive from our vacation in Myrtle Beach.

Amber G.

Yelp
Great Carolina barbecue! The pulled pork is juicy and slightly spicy, coleslaw and potato salad are great as well. The portions are really generous and we all had leftovers. Go easy on the extra mop sauce that comes with your meal if you aren't a fan of spice!

N W.

Yelp
Ribs, brisket, collard greens, potato salad and hush puppies with a glass of beer was my favorite with the original bbq sauce, so good. Service was excellent and ambiance is clean and casual. I would highly recommend you try.

DeeDee W.

Yelp
Its ok food just ok you get ribs 4 of them for$18 well not worth it just bones and not flavorful. Barbecue just ok it use to be better. To many flies and need better informed order takers. Sauce is terrible they need to remake that just to watery and vinegary.

MandDJ B.

Yelp
The barbecue is good little on the spicy side, but nonetheless good. I was really disappointed in the staff. I told him this was my first time there they don't take any debit cards or credit cards cash only so I had planned to eat more but I only had enough cash for a sandwich. It happened to be a cold windy day, and the only place to eat is outside on a pork bench There are tables inside, but they are being used by employees for their breaks and they won't let you eat inside regardless of the weather conditions. So my dad and I took our food to the local gas station in a in their dining room. That was my first and last time to Scott's barbecue.

Yelp
Welp, got their 5 minutes too late to enjoy some whole hog bbq. Drove all the way from Dallas, TX and missed my one shot for their famous whole hog. Still kinda upset about it if you can't tell lol. Btw, they're cash only! Cash only people, be ready. Because that's why we missed out on the whole hog. Arrived ready to eat with no cash. Left to go get cash. Came back and they were out of whole hog. Anyways the ribs were fantastic. Even despite the fact they were kind of cold lol. They were still pretty dang good! Super super smoky. Totally tasted like backyard ribs. The chicken was ... chicken. Pretty good. Nothing to write home about. My potato salad was swimming/drowning in mayo. Tasted like Walmart, which honestly I wasn't totally mad at. One day I will be back for their whole hog. Mark my words!

Emily S.

Yelp
Food is delicious! I have never had anything bad from Scott's. Excellent service and the nicest ladies you will every meet

Yelp
Food good didn't like the sauce tasted sauce before I put it on food the meats were good recommend it

Yelp
Best pulled pork and ribs off the hog on this planet - Cooked over hardwood and mopped with their signature sauce

Jonathan A.

Yelp
The best! I've had bbq of all kinds all over. This is hands down the best pork bbq you can get. The ribs were a super but the whole hog bbq is to die for. Make sure you get a red rock to wash it down. Friendly folks in an environment that feels like it hasn't changed. That's why it's legendary.

Yelp
Scott's Bar-B-Que is award-winning, famous, and in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, my family and I were staying in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of a takeout/delivery-desert. Scott's is a little outside of downtown, and literally on the side of the road. I had read about the famous bar-b-que pits and I imagined I could glimpse them in the back, but who knows! The parking spots were pretty full but we squeezed into a questionable space. 3 older gentleman sat on a bench outside, chatting. A sign on the door said only 3 people at a time, but the owner let us in, as there was plenty of room to social distance inside. Waiting in line, I tried to read the signs and awards and articles hanging on the wall, and tried to identify the celebrities posing with the owners in the photo board by the order window. A basket of mini cucumbers and another of pecans sat next to some soda and chips for sale. I love seeing home grown stuff for sale. Truthfully, I couldn't understand the menu. Was a BBQ plate the BBQ sandwich plus sides? Or just BBQ with sides? FYI, the plate = sandwich plus sides. It also comes with BBQ sauce, so don't order that separately! They only take cash, and the woman who rang me up calculated the total with a calculator and a sheet of paper. Love it! The BBQ (pork) was insanely tender and definitely delicious. I was not a huge fan of the BBQ sauce, which is Carolina style- spicy and vinegary, but I ate the whole things anyways! The plate portion is huge! 1 plate could easily make 3 sandwiches. To say that I over ordered is a huge understatement.

Yelp
We took a BBQ road trip to Hemingway to check out the original location of Rodney Scott's bbQ joint. I've been a fan for decades. Following his rise to fame and eating my weight in delicious smoked pork! Rodney is a legend and has won accolades and international fame as a James Beard winner. It started here! This hole on the wall BBQ restaurant is worth the hype! They grill whole hogs and use a vinegar based sauce (my favorite style). There are picnic tables across the street. Order a tea, BBQ and some sides and taste the love!

Yelp
We were very excited to try this place so the disappointment was even more pronounced. We ordered a bunch of dishes and none of them were standouts except for the fried chicken sandwich. I am so grateful for Yelpers that posted recommendations of that sandwich because that was the only thing I finished. The other meats were not that tender and the sauces were nothing special. As you can see from the pictures I tried a bunch of different dishes but we would not up not finishing anything other than the chicken sandwich. A lot of people mentioned that the strong vinegar in the RS sauce was not very appetizing, but I know that is a signature of North Carolina BBQ. But that did not bother me as much as the lack of flavor and tenderness in meats themselves other than the chicken sandwich.

Yelp
Pulled porch & chicken were flavorful & juicy. The baked beans were probably the best that we have ever had. Went back and got an additional order to take with us!! Big portion and outdoor seating. Cash only.

Yelp
Still the best BBQ in the Carolinas or for that matter in the Southeast. You can't really compare it to Texas, Memphis, or St. Louis BBQ because they are all different styles. I read a review that was posted four months ago by someone who complained the the BBQ was in four inch strands. Seriously? It's called "pulled pork" for a reason. I know that there are some places that make "chopped 'cue" especially in North Carolina but that stuff is just chopped mush. Scott's smokes some seriously good BBQ with a fantastic vinegar and pepper sauce. Try it and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The best in town...better than their competitors. Great day trip out to Hemingway for BBQ!

Bruce L.

Yelp
Real deal. Deeply embedded flavor, smoked to perfection. For my palette, just the right spice in the vinegar sauce. Rural location but worth the ride. Cash only and BBQ Plate under $13 with 2 sides. Darn glad that we had leftovers to enjoy another day!

Ramen S.

Yelp
pork is meh, chicken is wow. overall, very overrated. dry pork, without much smokiness. the reason why we drove WAY, WAY out of the way was for the pork. chicken saved the day. go figure.

Yelp
Middle of nowhere...get ready to drive. The pulled pork was some of the best ...baked beans ARE the best. No buns...squishy white bread. Outside seating or to go.

Yelp
I have seen many videos and stories on Scott's BBQ . I grew up in Bennettsville , S.C. , but now live in Las Vegas , Nevada . I have also lived in Texas , so I am well versed in regional BBQ . For Pulled Pork , it's got to be Carolina BBQ . Las Vegas has exploded with lots of BBQ places , but most are Texas style , but they all do Pulled Pork . I have tried most of them . They do make good Brisket and Hot Links . As far as Scott's goes , I found the Pulled Pork to be very tender and the sauce is point on . I just got the sandwich since I was driving back to Charlotte that night to catch a plane , so I didn't have a lot of time to eat . The parking lot / road was full and I had to park a ways from the place . I ate mine in the car . The drive is something else . I was coming from Myrtle Beach , so it was a long detour . I ate at 4 BBQ places on my 2 week trip home to the Carolinas in September and I have to give Scott's #2 . Number #1 would be Smithfield's in Laurinburg , N.C, , but only by a small margin . Number #3 would be Shuler's in Latta , S.C. which has a very nice facility . Number #4 would be Stanton's Fly In Barbecue and Fish Camp , which is in my hometown of Bennettsville , S.C. and has a runway for small planes and helicopters to land there , which is pretty cool .

Yelp
Best BBQ in South Carolina!!!! Don't forget to pick up some fatback to!!!! The chicken is really good as well !!! But if you haven't tried the pulled pork stick with it!! Please reread that it's(PULLED PORK) not chopped pock !

Yelp
We always take the long way to Charleston so that we can grab lunch here on our way down! Stop and eat here, if you find yourself anywhere near it! When we went, they weren't seating anyone inside, so you had to either take your food to go or there were a few picnic tables out front. We opted to eat there. There aren't too many options (which is a good thing!), but you can't really go wrong. Normally we just always did the pork BBQ, but I switched up my order this time around and got their chicken. Wow! I'm SO glad that I did!! I think that I will always stick with the chicken not (but still get to eat some pulled pork that my hubby orders - almost like you can get a taste of it all!) We have been to his location in Charleston, but this one in Hemingway is just better somehow! Definitely worth the trek out here to check it out (and easy to miss if you aren't paying attention, as it is just on the side of the road)

Yelp
No kidding...I think I can safely say that this is THE best BBQ I have ever had! After watching a show back a few years ago on UNC-tv ( NC's PBS station) called A Chef's Table - BBQ about Rodney Scott's BBQ - we couldn't wait to try it on our next visit to Charleston. Since then, we have visited the place every time we go to Charleston and hit RS BBQ as our pilgrimage! The ribs are absolutely amazing- they were smoky, flavorful & meaty. I am not a fan of the mushy, falling of the bone, tasteless ribs that I find too often at bbq joints. The quality of the meat here, combined with the master bbq skills of Mr. Scott and that killer spicy vinegar mop sauce is just heaven! Cooked in a smokehouse attached to the restaurant, the "whole hog bbq" is nothing like what you're used to. The whole hog is smoked very slowly over hardwood coals to a juicy & tender finish but the meat bites back! That's a good thing- like the difference between a factory farm chicken and a local one. Night and day!! Not to besmirch the other offerings like his pulled pork, brisket and smoked chicken wings as they are epically good, too! Oh... and our favorite sides - done so southern - the collards, hush puppies, cornbread and mac & cheese! Must haves along with all the above! Tip: we always go on a Sunday for lunch before we drive back to Asheville. This will be our only meal of the day! We order way too much, eat some and take the rest back home with us to enjoy for another day! That usually holds us till our next RS-BBQ craving when we get back in the car and make the pilgrimage again!! Great food, great experience and always satisfying!

Yelp
Bravo! Pitmaster Scott. You are a true BBQ icon. What a wonderful place. Scott's BBQ - A pork-lover's amusement park. The chicken is great too. Whole hogs, pig parts, pork rinds..... and SMOKE. This place is a love story. The End.

Yelp
So, I'm reading an article in Southern Living "The South's Top 50 Barbecue Joints Of 2023" and it lists Scott's Bar-B-Q as #5. I enjoy bbq and like to try deferent places and Scott's is in Hemingway, SC. ROAD TRIP. So, my wife and I we drive from Aiken, SC to try out Scott's. (A two- and half-hour drive) The setting was as described and that doesn't bother me. The employees were nice enough. We ordered the three-meat plate that comes with two sides. We got slaw and baked beans. The ribs had very little meat on them. The pulled pork was moist but didn't have flavor other than a red pepper bite but was not "followed by a sweet surge of hardware smoke that lingers on the tongue" like described in the article. The chicken was the worst meat on the plate as it was dry and flavorless. The beans could have come out of a can. If they didn't, they are working too hard to make Bush's. The slaw was OK, nothing to even write about. This is the first BBQ joint we have tried on this "The South's Top 50 Barbecue Joints Of 2023" and I am now very concerned with going off this writer's opinion. I can't recommend this BBQ joint and we won't be visiting again.

Yelp
After reading all the rave reviews about Scott's Bar-B-Que authenticity to the East North Carolina region and seeing Anthony Bourdain and Sean Brock praise the delicious whole hog on Parts Unknown, our expectations were SKY HIGH on the food .... but we left highly disappointed. First off, I've read numerous articles about Rodney Scott and I want to say that I respect his place in the BBQ community. I respect that there are many BBQ purists who bow down to his skillset, work ethic and ability to cook whole hogs the old school way, but that just doesn't define good food. Now that I've gotten that off my chest, Scott's is as authentic as it gets cosmetically. There are no fancy decorations or even a legit building that it resides in. It's basically a shed/home with a makeshift looking sign at the top. There's a gravel area next to it that is used as the "parking lot", although it's basically just the side of the desolate road. Behind the shed is the giant BBQ pit dome and where the family prepares the wood to use for cooking. The inside looked like a small, dingy convenience store as there were food items (bread, canned food) and goods that were sitting on wood shelves. There were also 3 small tables and a few chairs along with some counter-top seating as well. The kitchen area and ordering window were directly to the right once customers walked in. A funny thing was that it was easy to spot newbies walking into Scott's since they all had a look of bewilderment wondering what time warp they just walked thru. The menu hung over the top of the ordering window and it was very simple. Customers can either order a whole hog or portions of it, BBQ sandwiches or BBQ/chicken plates with 2 sides (baked beans, cole slaw or potato salad). That's it! The big positive on the menu was that sandwiches and plates were relatively cheap at no more than $7. My wife and I ordered the BBQ plate with sides and a chicken plate with sides, which both came with 2 slices of white bread. The sides for both plates were the same, baked beans and potato salad. We were given potato salad because they did not have cole slaw that day, which was OK. To say we were disappointed in the food was an understatement. The BBQ in the BBQ plate was pulled whole hog/pork (no substitutions) and it was as dry as a doggy bone. It also lacked much flavor too. We had to douse it with the BBQ vinegar sauce that was sitting on the counter, but that didn't really help since it wasn't true thick BBQ sauce. The sauce was more of a vinegar liquid with spice. The texture of the whole hog reminded me of certain variations of beef jerky, but with less flavor to it. The chicken in the chicken plate did not fare much better. It was also really dry and devoid of flavor, despite being a wing. The beans and potato salad were OK, but didn't make up for the letdown in the meats. At first glance, the ladies behind the counter didn't seem all that cordial and were only interested in just hearing what customers wanted to order. However, we eventually warmed up to them when we asked if we could see the ($12) T-shirts that were being sold inside and they gladly assisted with no reservations. Other than the friendly service though, we were really dissatisfied with the experience. We did not mind the hole in the wall setting as we had been to plenty of restaurants and dingy spots in our travels. To be honest, we prefer hole in the walls because of their authenticity, but at the end of the day the food is what matters and Scott's was far from what we define as good.

Yelp
Featured on Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain respective TV Food shows, I knew that I needed to venture to Scott's BBQ on my travels through South Carolina. Scott's BBQ is 1.5 hrs from the South of the Border Amusement Park and 1 hr from Charleston, SC. A local joint with customers who return more than a few times per week coming back for more because they know it's that good. The employees and owners are very pleasant and is a family-run/owned business. Traditional BBQ with no frills, high-end marketing from sponsors, etc. This is legit Carolina BBQ (vinegar based BBQ Sauce). Scott's BBQ is proud of the quality products that they serve to their customers and it shows. I had the pleasure of watching the cooking process out back and what is conducted to provide excellent BBQ. They "mop" the sauce onto the pig - literally. It is a bucket of sauce that is spread on the entire hog to cover as it rotates on the spit for a minimum of 24 hours. The wood they use is pecan, hickory and oak for the smoking process. I unfortunately did not have the option to try their BBQ Chicken, which I hear is awesome, as it was sold out before we arrived. The pork was extremely tender, juicy and flavorful. No sauce is needed as the flavor of the smoke is addicting on its own. Cash Only. Cold Drinks (Bottled) available to purchase in coolers inside restaurant. Tables inside and picnic benches outside to enjoy your food. Find a spot anywhere along the roadside or in the dirt parking lot. Definitely worth the detour off the major highways for good South Carolina BBQ. Enjoy!

Yelp
I'm not the biggest fan of all forms of pork barbecue served up in South Carolina, but what is offered here is better than most, but short of the ENC BBQ I prefer. The Scott family has been cooking whole hog barbecue over hardwood coals since the early '70's, and it has reached an iconic status in SC. We ordered up a couple of pounds of pork barbecue and a barbecue sandwich to go. The pork sandwich consisted of a nice amount of pulled, not chopped, pork and 2 slices of loaf bread, no slaw, no sauce - you have to order the slaw as a side item, it seems - kinda lame for a $5.50 sandwich (for reference, Stamey's chopped sandwich with slaw is $3.25). As served up to us, the pork was smokey, but was really dry and stringy, and while the sauce helped, it was far from moist and tender pig. And when you add much sauce to a sandwich made up of sliced loaf bread, the sandwich gets soggy and comes apart - not a big fan of the mess it becomes. The sauce is a vinegar based one, and carries some real heat. It was an interesting experience but, frankly not one I'd repeat.

Yelp
If you don't like spicy vinegar sauce you won't like the bar b que at all. Ribs fine without the sauce. Chicken so so. Potato salad and slaw less than fine CASH only

Yelp
I was so excited that I was finally getting a chance to have what was supposed to be the best in Carolina bbq. I ordered ribs and pulled pork. I am still a,month later, disappointed beyond words. The ribs were gray in color, with no bark. One bite and threw them out. Turned out, the ribs were better than the pulled pork. The pulled pork was in globs of meat three or four inches long. I tried putting sauce on it to see if it would help, but the sauce turned out to taste like Texas Pete with water and cayenne pepper added. I waited about writing the review. I did not want to be unfair, but hell the stuff was awful. Maybe a bad day, but I really don't think so. Sorry, but I would avoid if I were you.

Yelp
This was my most painful BBQ experience ever! But I say that in a good way. First thing first, make sure you have cash or you will frantically drive around the small town of Hemingway looking for an ATM. There is a CVS you can go in and buy something and get cash back. Second, this is an absolute hole in the wall with 3 tables, coolers with drinks, a counter with bananas, junk behind the counter, a tv, and several people outside ready to greet you when you come in sitting on benches. Third, the menu is very limited...sandwich, chicken, pork, and they do ribs but I think ribs is not an everyday thing. Fourth, Scott's is very cheap, a large portion, and good value. My pork plate with baked beans, slaw, and a bottle of water was $8 something. See my photos of how much pork you get...but it is a ton. Fifth, the pork is delicious! It is a tid bit dry. But you notice it less when you add the sauce. Remember how I said this was painful? The BBQ sauce is straight vinegar and pepper that gives it a bite. There is no sweet tea or potato salad to help ease the bite so you pretty much have to suffer. The slaw was really creamy and good slaw. Beans weren't bad but nothing special about them. They tasted a lot like Bush beans heated super hot. You have never had a BBQ experience like Scott's. I don't like the fact they don't have sweet tea especially since it is so cheap to make and you really need it here! It was good but man that sauce causes a lot of pain to suffer through. Hurts so good!

Yelp
Always our shredded pork stop on the way to Myrtle Beach. We get 2-3 lbs of smoked meats (pork and chicken) to provide a few meals in the condo. And the cracklings are the best anywhere. My mom baked her in the oven for a greasy treat. Scott's cook the skin just right to make the cracklings dry and crisp. Look for the sandwich bags of them. I eat an entire bag driving to the beach! Check out Scott's early in the day because they close the doors when they run out. A little bit of pig heaven in the middle of nowhere.

Yelp
The 411: this is a no-frills establishment that's immensely popular with locals and with tourists looking for great food. The welcoming atmosphere, hospitality and the PORK will have me eager to return if ever in the area. This place is known almost entirely for one thing: South Carolina, whole-hog, non-mustard BBQ. It's very similar to Eastern North Carolina whole hog, except this pork is pulled, not chopped. The BBQ sauce is also similar, just a tad sweetened and also had cayenne powder instead of crushed red pepper in North Carolina. I got 1 LB of pork for a little over $10 and a bag of cracklings for about $3. An incredible deal considering how generously over 1LB they served me. The pork was tender, lightly seasoned and had a wonderful mild smoky aroma. Folks with no teeth would have no trouble with this pork! It's exponentially better with their homemade sauce...which is probably one of my favorite types of BBQ sauce. Vinegary sour with a serving of spicy, it's everything I want and nothing I don't. My girlfriend and I contently consumed a heaping pound of pork flesh in about 12 mins. That's how good it was! All of the different strands of meat coming from different parts of the pig were all different in flavor, texture and fat content and it made every bite slightly different and kept it interesting. It was a wonderfully porky meal. The cracklings were also delicious. Crispy and perfectly salted, I doubt any piece of the pig goes to waste at this place! I think they also serve ribs and chicken but I honestly would recommend the pork 10 times out of 10. I really shouldn't tell you this...but sometimes, if you get there on time, they might have some crispy pork skin on hand that you can politely ask for. When I was at the order window, I asked and they said they ran out. HOWEVER, when I was almost finished with my meal (I ate there), a nice woman came out and asked us if we were the ones who asked for skin. My girlfriend and I said, "yes," and she brought out a styrofoam box with a huge amount of crispy pork skin! So unexpected and so kind of them to give us some fresh skin, which she said that had just came out of the smoker. The skin was really crispy crunchy and intensely smoky. Low on salt content as well, surprisingly. It's incredibly flavored but less crispy than Filipino lechón skin, which is honestly the best way to cook pork. This place comes in a close 2nd for pork skin! The line to order was long when I got there (3pm, Friday.) worth the wait! Bottom line: I fell in love with this place, not just because of the food, but because of the experience all in all. Great people, wonderful service, hospitality and incredibly delicious pork BBQ done the same way it's been done for hundreds of years...I'll definitely be back before I leave this earth. Hope to see you there!

Yelp
Had to stop by after seeing that Anthony Bourdain visited. It was fantastic! Recommend the Pork Sandwich.

Yelp
If you believe the best barbecue is found in the worst part of town, in a place with bars on the windows and just enough grease on the table to write your initials, then Scott's just outside Hemingway, South Carolina should be it. Not so. Scott's is a victim of its own success, and conflict (according to a network television program) between father and son. Famous chef son Richard now headquarters in Charleston where he has a new place, while Dad runs the ramshackle restaurant that his son used as a stepping stone to national attention. As someone who has spent a lifetime in search of the perfect barbecue (read more than 100 barbecue reviews on Yelp), we, reluctantly, gave Scott's two stars after a visit couple years ago. This time three stars; here is the rationale: Scott's is a hole in the wall restaurant sits adjacent to a Quonset hut housing six or seven huge fire pits where they cook whole hogs. No place to eat inside other, but there are a couple benches out front where old timers sometimes howdy customers, and then two picnic tables for those who prefer to bat away the flies and eat on site. Whole hogs are split down the middle and placed skin down over the coals. Smoke cannot permeate the skin; hence the meat is far more baked than smoked. Yet, while the pulled pork, served in generous portion fell short, the chicken was exceptional. The outside browned, the meat moist with a taste of real flavor. The sides were as mixed as the meats. The baked beans were served far too hot in a little plastic cup and had little flavor. The slaw was good, the potato salad even better. Unfortunately. Scott's offers but one sauce. A vinegar sauce likely a little too spiced for some, but just right for those who like their sauce on the hot side. Scott's has become, thanks to son Richard's TV found fame, a "must go to" place. We've been twice, the second time to see what we missed the first. Three stars this time for the quantity of the servings, for some really good chicken, for some always friendly folks and for their prices. Hunting for really good barbecue, you can find better. Looking for the hole in the wall place made famous on television, then this is it.

Yelp
I'm a hometown girl who has enjoyed this barbecue my entire life. Quick service and excellent barbecue. A few places outside to picnic but definitely a grab and go joint. During the winter holidays, be early or you will be standing in line and may not be successors they often run out during high demand. Cash only.

Yelp
This place is awesome. My wife and I first saw this on Andrew Zimmerns' TV show several years ago, at that time we lived in Md and traveled to SC on vacation. Well we finally moved to SC and decided we had to try Scott's BBQ. We pull up and initially thought, no way. We then decided to drop our first impression stuck up attitudes and follow the old adage, "don't judge a book by its cover." So glad we did, best decision we made in a long tIme. The people were friendly, everyone from the guy helping us find a parking spot in the crowded parking, not an employee, to the lady at the bar who told us where to get cash, to the staff serving the food. The interior is dark and old, reminds me of a old "Juke Joint" from the past. Get over it, the food is worth it. Wife had a pulled BBQ plate with beans and potato salad, I had the ribs with the same sides. We also had two slices of homemade cake, her's red velvet and me, raisin, and two drinks from the cooler. Whole meal less the $25 and would have cost more anywhere else. The meat was flavorful and moist and the sides tasty. The two slices of white bread they give you are perfect for making a pulled meat sandwich and dipping in their homemade sauce. We ate in the small dining area and left full and happy. The only reasons I gave 4 and not 5 stars is as follows. Ambiance, no. The place is a dive with nice people and terrific food. And they only take cash, no credit cards. Since we very seldom carry cash we had to go down the street to a gas station and use the ATM, something I hate doing. Will we return? Most definitely, and taking friends.

Yelp
I heard great things and it did not disappoint! The menu is straight forward with three side options: baked beans, potato salad, or cole slaw. You really don't need anything else. I tried the pulled pork and the ribs. Both were great but the pulled pork steaks the show. I love the vibe of the place and most definitely love the food. Great prices for the portion.

Yelp
Ribs and pulled pork were amazing, MacNCheese was perfect and corn bread off the chain! Even got to meet Rodney! Awesome meal!
