Weekend Finds: The Diego Rivera Murals, Southern Pastries, and Snowshoeing Paths We Loved

"Ever since I heard about Scram, a Jersey City bakery with southern roots, it has become a must-stop every time we’re in the area. The owners ran a Charleston food truck before relocating north, and you can see the influence in their unbelievably flaky pimento biscuits and items like maple crullers, coconut cake, and quiche. Scram opened last summer and operates solely out of a takeout window—but word has spread and there is always a line whenever I visit on weekends. The best time to visit is on Fridays and Saturdays, when they serve their breakfast sandwiches starting at 9 a.m., with combinations like ham, gruyere, and pineapple jam on a milk bun. No matter when you go, go early, as the popular items sell out quick."

I'm only in town for four days and plan to repeat my coffee and pastry or breakfast sammie routine here every morning. Why? The assortment of craveable pastries/donuts and a scrambled egg/mushroom flavor bomb in a fresh baked gougeres roll. Ham, bacon and sausage are also options. The staff is especially helpful and kind and the setting is charming. I arrive just before they open at 8am (they close at noon) so I can snag my favorite window table and relax before my day shifts into hectic mode. It's my morning happy place and I have a feeling I'm not the only guest who feels that way. 🌅 🍩 🥓 🍳 ☕️

The Fontina sandwich is really good & a must try. The bun was soft, eggs were light + airy and the chili mayo added the kick! I also got the carrot pecan pie since they were out of cinnamon rolls. It was really good too! My friends got the sandwich on the gougeres bread but they weren’t big fans of it, so wouldn’t suggest getting that! We walked in around 9:00am on a Thursday morning and it wasn’t crowded. It became really busy after 9:30am!

Google
I recently stopped by for breakfast, and it was really good! I ordered the fontina egg sandwich, an apple cruller, and a latte, all of which were delicious. The egg sandwich was flavorful, the cruller had the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. The atmosphere was cozy , and the manager (guessing) was incredibly nice, even treating us to a little surprise before closing time.

I was visiting Scram regularly for the last five years. Great food, especially buns and great people. But today cashier and a manager surprised me. I ordered my favorite bun and coffee. It was a long wait, so 20 min in, I got few pastries and asked about bun, and was told that it will be right away. 10 min later I asked again, just to find out that they missed order for a bun. But instead making it right and to make sure they will make it as soon as possible, I was told that i will need to wait another 10min and no one even said sorry about it. When I asked for manager, she said that she is busy and have a lot of customer, and that my complain will make others wait, like it does not matter I was waiting for 30 min. So literally no one care that they messed it up. Folks, you can do it much better, I know. Im not even mad, i just so disappointed.

Google
Such a nice bakery and perfect for brunch! I got Mushroom egg puff and my friend ordered sausage egg. We both loved it. The egg scramble smells and tastes superb, both flavor and texture wise! The egg tart is moist and flavorful as well. Their coffee is not bad either! On the pricier side for the serving size but definitely worth the hype!

Came here for breakfast with two friends this morning and my only regret is not coming earlier because I know the cinnamon rolls would have been a bit softer and closer to having come out the oven. But definitely still get the cinnamon roll as it was a perfect size, generously frosted, and delicious. I tasted a hint of cream cheese in the frosting which I loved. It is so hard to find good classic fresh cinnamon rolls but these were it and I quite enjoyed mine. I got the bacon breakfast sandwich which was so yummy. The texture of the eggs was perfect. No notes on the sandwich. While I would like to try more of the menu I could order the bacon sandwich every single time. As a non coffee drinker they had a great drink choices. I got the lemonade which wasn’t bad but wasn’t memorable either. Did the job to wash down the sandwich. I appreciate that it wasn’t a super sweet lemonade or overly tart but could have been stronger maybe in flavor. It was heavy on the ice which I think watered it down too much but it wasn’t bad. Although the place was packed it was a quick long line so you can tell things were moving efficiently behind the scenes.

Google
STOCKED pastry case, adorable vibes, and cute dishes! This is the perfect neighborhood spot for a morning pastry and chai! However, they have NO DECAF! There are so many pastry options and the cinnamon roll is light and bready with a delicious cream cheese tasting frosting!

Google
The BEST cinnamon rolls in Jersey City. Not to mention, their breakfast sandwiches are probably also the best in Jersey City. The price point is high BUT the food delivers when it comes to what you are paying for. I love going to this place when I feel like I deserve to treat myself. Can't emphasize how good everything from here is. Yes, the line can be long and the store can be busy...but the friendly customer service continues even amidst their rush hour. Bless the people that work here. Thank you!

Yelp
Scram is a local favorite and it's quite easy to see why. Because of their extremely limited hours, the lines usually go out the door on any day, even weekdays. Their menu is straight to the point. They specialize in egg sandwiches and they're very good at it. My favorite here is the sausage bun. The bread bun is soft and absorbs the fat from the quality ingredients. The jalapeños complement the fat from the sausage and cuts it. The coffee is pretty standard and I like that you can also grab a pastry from their huge selection as well. Definitely recommend and worth it to stand in line for sure.

Yelp
Super popular bakery/ coffee shop! Well, at least on the weekends. The pastries are good & the coffee they brew I believe is Parlor coffee so you can't go wrong. The americano was great and the pastries were good albeit on the sweet side. They sell out of egg tarts QUICKLY and sold out right when I was waiting in line. Line moves very slowly here. On a Saturday you would think they offer baby stroller valet. The breakfast sandwiches are super popular and come with a hefty price tag. Maybe they are worth it? Seems like people really enjoy them. I still want to try the egg tarts.... one day.

Yelp
cute cozy cafe w/ ample seating and delicious breakfast sandwiches pinmento - the egg scramble was nice and fluffy! puff had a crumbly texture while maintaining structural integrity; pimento wasnt too overwhelmingly strong and had a nice cheesy flavor, theres also a sweet chili-like jam! delicious
google avatar

Julianna K.

Yelp
Nice local bakery! Got there before closing. I got the strawberry white chocolate chip scone and the egg tart. I think they ran out of cinnamon buns at that point. Both pastries were good. The scone was moist and not dry!
google avatar

Yelp
the place is small but the vibes are still great. Their passionfruit donut was so incredibly good. I probs wont get the egg sandwich again. Their cinnamon roll was good too. More like a cinnamon muffin though. The service was efficient at taking orders. Took a while to get my food though.

Yelp
Scram was a cozy place that I found exploring while visiting new york. I came near the tail end of their opening hours so lines weren't too bad. The store is bigger than your average coffee store and about the same size as your average bakery. They have an assortment of fresh buns made to order of which I had to get. There's also a small coffee menu and a larger tea menu. Cold brew- Pretty standard cold brew. Solid and gets the job done, but wasn't the smoothest Ham milk bun- The bun part was very good, and the jam was also delicious. The egg was my favorite, being runny and soft and warm and fresh. My only gripe was that the ham was a bit cold and on the drier side. Overall really solid! As I left the baristas managed to remember my name which I really appreciated :)

Yelp
The line was out the door when we arrived but we wanted to try it, so we waited. There is stroller parking outside, and none are allowed inside. Once we made it in, we could see why. The space is right, with about 10 or so tables up against either wall, but most on the left. It was very lively, but floors had a bunch of spilled drinks and food. When we got to the front to order, most of their baked goods were sold out except for three items. Ended up buying the last two chocolate chip cookies, three breakfast sandwiches, and a tea. There is a water station as well, if you'd prefer that. The sandwiches took about 15mins to come out, which wasn't bad considering the place was packed on the Saturday morning. The sausage breakfast sandwich was my favorite, super fluffy eggs. The right balance of spicy and savory. I do wish there was more sauce, and felt the same about the fontina but nonetheless still a solid spot.

Adrian G.

Yelp
First off the sandwich was tasty. I got the sausage bun and it was nice. We also tried the egg tart, it was ok. The coffee was fine. The cons: -Prices are high -Seating is a challenge...some of the tables don't even have chairs. -The wait is excessive. There's usually a long line, and then the wait to get food after placing the order is long (especially since it's such a limited menu).

Yelp
I've tried both the ham and the sausage sandwiches. the sandwiches are great, but I had to knock a star down because of the price. A $13 (in 2023) sandwich this small makes it hard for me to come back. However the coffee is also good and the seating is a great addition.

Yelp
I was sooo excited to finally get to scram and wow it did not disappoint. Definitely one of the best cookies i've ever had which I was not expecting! The flavor was incredible, but for some reason the pimento puff breakfast did not sit well with me for the rest of the day.
google avatar

Yelp
After living in the area for 4 years, we finally made our way to Scram to grab some breakfast sandwiches. They're only open from 8am - 12pm Thursday to Sunday, so there's a limited time to actually try them. I had the Ham sandwich and X had the sausage sandwich. Both were excellent, and I loved the brioche bun. Actually almost every sandwich on the menu sounded good and I am definitely coming back for the Pimento cheese sandwich. We also split a Passionfruit doughnut braid and it was phenomenal. I would 10/10 come back just for that doughnut braid. So good, so tart. so moist.
google avatar

Yelp
Highly recommend their scram sandwiches, my favorite is the bacon. Eat it fresh for best flavor! The sandwiches are similar to egg slut which is a chain located in So Cal. They are pricey. I've had their almond brioche which has a great texture and great taste. The workers here are super sweet. It's a seat yourself, serve yourself, grab your coffee and food when your name is called. A place to chill and catch up with a friend.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the chorizo breakfast sandwich. It had a surprisingly sweet tomato jam on it that was too sweet to pair with eggs in my opinion. The bun was deliciously buttery and flaky, you could tell it was made in-house. Could've used more chorizo and less sweet jam sauce. Wouldn't get this one again, but looking forward to trying the classic bacon sandwich next time. Cold brew was great.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich place in jersey! When you walk in the place smells soooo good! Like butter... Can get really busy --------- All the sandwiches are good! Fluffy egg but ham has egg with yolk that spills out. I think the other sandwiches are all's scrambled eggs and it's so soft and fluffy Ham: the best! So good cus the pineapple jam and thinly sliced ham. I like this the best cus I think it's harder to find a sandwich like this Bacon: can't go wrong. Second fav! Sausage: solid. I don't think the jalapeños make it spicy. I needed hot sauce and maybe even some ketchup Fontina: good. Liked the shallots and all. Pimento: tasted like it was on a biscuit. It's good ------- Granola and yogurt panna cotta was soooo good! But I didn't know how pricy it was. My bf got it and I really enjoyed it but idk if I'd pay that much for it again Honey cake also really good Cookies were all good but my fav was the citrus cus it had like a yuzu taste and so subtle.. my sis liked the vanilla malt. Scone - tried the cranberry pistachio or something and we both thought it was okay and wouldn't get it again Lemon cheesecake bread or something- would not get against so underwhelming and did not like the black pepper. Kiwi pie crust or something- like a kiwi pop tart... good but wouldn't get again. Would like more of the kiwi inside ------ Iced chai latte with oatmilk- omg sooooo good! Def getting it again when I go back ------- Service is good :) everyone is so kind and patient even in all the busyness ----- Parking: street

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwich. I always get the sausage. The eggs are so light and fluffy the sausage has loads of jalepeno (not too spicy just the right kick) the brioche. It's a good size sandwich but I inhale it in two minutes it's just that perfect. The cold brew is amazing and I'm very picky about my coffee, and it gives me the extra pep. They also have amazing pasties and cookies. Scram makes for a great start of the day

Yelp
Loved the ambiance and delicious Ham Bun that was unforgettable! Delicious baked goods and perfectly brewed coffee! Must visit!
google avatar

Kalyn C.

Yelp
Cute vibes, friendly workers, best breakfast sammy ever - the milk bun is the key differentiator!
google avatar

Yelp
We love Scram! Arrive early in a Saturday/Sunday Morning to experience delicious egg sandwiches with the most delightful meats and specialty jams. The pastries do not disappoint, and their donuts are world-class. The lines get serious as the day progresses and the space is quite small - but the food and the service are fantastic!
google avatar

Yelp
We got the pannacotta yogurt granola and the pear almond danish with a little espresso don't sleep on this place!! Right now open 8-12PM Thursday through Sunday. A delightful way to start your morning. I prefer to share my food so we bought our items $20 dollars as a light breakfast before lunch. Reasonable for the quality of their food. The ambiance is great the music is great and the shoo always has people in line but we got our stuff almost immediately. Really great business I would come here everyday if I could
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Whoa. That egg tart is the business. I thought it was overhyped but... wow. The egg tart is so eggy and not custard creamy like the average one, but so rich while not being heavy, and overall delicious. The burnt top gives it a caramelized flavor at the end of your bite that makes it scandalous... We also got a sausage wrap... I'd say its just ok but bf loved it. It's def where I'd go when craving a bfast sandwich but next time will try the bacon/ham. Iced latte with the SESAME MILK. You guys have me looking through whole foods like a crazy person with no sesame milk to be found :'( Service was fast and friendly and there was plenty of standing room for your average coffeeshop on a Sat morning at 10am. I blame the torrential downpour. $14 for a breakfast sandwich is questionable. $5 for an eggtart is also questionable. Will revisit upon craving a bfast sando/sesame milk craving/luscious egg tart desire.

Bree L.

Yelp
- they don't have vanilla to add to coffee?? Very odd in 2024 - you can't add meat to the veg sandwich options? - a lot of egg on the sandwich
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
Scram is quickly becoming our favorite weekend place to walk to for coffee and breakfast. Yes, they make great coffee - an iced latte for me (soon to become hot as the temperatures fall) and matcha for the wife, hot or iced depending on the day. Very well made, and not grossly overpriced. But the real treat here is the pastries. I can't say enough about the quiche with bacon jam. Even the next day, if you can wait that long, it tastes absolutely amazing. How is it so soft? For sweets only, grab a cruller, no matter the flavor. We had the apple one last week and it was absolutely fantastic. Funny enough, the one thing we haven't tried yet is the sandwiches. We've seen them being made, and being eaten, and I can say with certainty that I'm sure they taste just as good as they look. That's next for us.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! I always go for their pimento and pastry (so far have tried the egg tart, carrot cake, and cinnamon roll and cookie - all delicious!) The egg tarts usually sell out around 10/10:30am so be sure to get there early. Staff is also super friendly! There is not a lot of seating inside so most people take it to go. I only wish they were open for more days or longer hours. I believe their current hours are Thursday - Sunday 8am -12pm. A definite go to in jersey city!
google avatar

Tian G.

Yelp
Their pastry and egg sandwiches were amazing! Personally I enjoyed the sausage sandwich the most while my husband loves the ham sandwich. Tried a few pastries like egg tarts and fig coffee cake. Nothing to complain about other than they sold out fast(come before 11am to get a better selection). Coffee was good too. Staff was friendly and efficient. Love this little gem!

Nina G.

Yelp
THEEE best bacon egg and cheese sandwich in Jersey City. A little pricey, but so worth it. The service is also excellent, very friendly and personable staff. Will have to go back and try their pastries sometime.
google avatar

Kristine L.

Yelp
First time I came to the bakery was Saturday 10am and after waiting 30 min, was told most of the pastries were already sold out. This time I came at Saturday 8am and with barely any line, I left with my order in 10 min. Ordered the ham bun and egg custard tarts. Ham Bun: The brioche is soft and warm, and the egg is over easy. The ham has a VERY sweet pineapple marinade which I didn't appreciate. It's too sweet for a breakfast sandwich so early in the morning. The $9 price tag seems unjustified for a breakfast sandwich but the ham/bacon/sausage sandwiches are the bakery's most popular items. Not sure if I'll crave and/or order this again any time soon. Egg Tarts: I'm a fan of both Hong Kong and Portuguese egg tarts. Scram's egg tart's outward appearance resembles the Portuguese type, being burnt at the top. The custard is creamy and sweet (surprisingly less sweet than the ham) while the outside is flaky and toasted. It tastes similar to the Portuguese egg tarts I pick up at my local Chinese bakery but these have extra volume! Would definitely recommend trying this one out!
google avatar

Rusty R.

Yelp
I don't know how they get their eggs so fluffy here. I am now on a mission to figure out how to do this. The rolls are fluffy too. In fact, I'd just rename this place Fluffy Scram. But it's really really good. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is they don't sell juice. Not all of us drink coffee, and making a 2nd stop to get juice is annoying. A fresh squeezed OJ or "fancy shmancy" juices would fit in with the vibe and that would make it a 5 star joint.

Isabel M.

Yelp
So, so good. If I could give this place 8 stars, I would. I had a breakfast sandwich & it was delicious. They have a nice selection of pastries too. I definitely plan to go back. The staff was friendly & professional. The way the place is decorated is wonderful too.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
Fontina : Egg soft scrambled, fontina cheese , shallot , chili mayo on a toasted soft brioche bun. One word , exquisite!
google avatar

Henry Y.

Yelp
Breakfast sandwiches here are amazing. Not healthy but it'll satisfy your Sunday morning let's-wake-up-at-9am-for-the-London-game grogginess. The baked goods are also killer. And may also kill your arteries but it's fine. Just make your peace and show up at this bakery for the most delicious breakfast sandwiches and guilty pleasure treats that you'll eat this side of the Hudson River.

Yelp
Those that follow me closely on Yelp will be getting a lot of coffee bar reviews through the summer! I've made it my mission to go to a new one at least once a week to spice things up... two weeks ago: Scram! I was so excited to try out Scram but had a bit of difficulty as they're closed a few days of the week. I walked there without looking thinking that they would be open but, nope! Closed. After a couple of tries and googling their hours I was successful in finding a time to go when they were open. While there, I ordered a latte, bottled kombucha, filled donut, and a blackberry tart-like pastry. The individuals working the counter were very nice and even though they were busy, took their time with each customer. My coffee was good while the tart that I got seemed a little dry (yes it was a tart, yes it was still dryer than expected). My boyfriend said that the donut and the kombucha were great! I would love to go back here to try out more of their breakfast options in the future like their eggs and breakfast sides. I saw someone sitting down while we were there and they looked fantastic. Overall, cute little spot with a nice vibe! Just make sure they're open before you walk over:)

Yelp
the early bird gets the sandwiches! finally made my way over here after multiple (mental) attempts to try to come over here on weekend mornings. the bakery wasn't too crowded when i got there and a few ppl were waiting on their order. the layout of the place was a little odd, you'd see the coffee station first, kitchen, display case for the baked goods, refrigerated case with some juices, and you'd order at the small station in the back on the left side. ordering was quick and easy and i got the following to try: -ham sandwich: runny egg, gruyere, bechamel, ham, pineapple jam on the softest milk buns. the pineapple jam was a nice sweet, surprising touch. -sausage sandwich: fluffy scrambled eggs, cream cheese, chives, jalapenos, sausage on the same soft milk buns too. the flavors were good, though i did the find the texture of the sausage was a little "close" and sorta dry. -cinnamon roll: soft & pillowy, cinnamon-y, and just the right amount of sweetness. what a treat! -iced latte (with whole milk): a little too milky for my taste, the coffee became a little muted. it took about 15 mins for me to order and get my food. i do understand that they're made to order but even at that felt a bit long lol. highly recommend the ham sandwich when you go, and some baked goods too. will return for sure.

Yelp
Went to Scram twice for breakfast on my trip to Jersey City. It was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. First off, the location was super convenient to my hotel, but off the beaten path. Super cute interior. All the goodies are on display for your mouth to water. I got the bacon sandwich and cold brew the first time. My friend got the chorizo puff and cold brew and took home the coconut cake. The second day I went I got he chorizo puff, cold brew, and chocolate chip cookie. I preferred the bacon sandwich but the bread on the chorizo puff was crispy and delicious. Scram will be on my staple list to visit when I'm in JC
google avatar

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
We got the ham sandwich, bacon sandwich, and sausage sandwich as well as a couple drinks. Probably THE best breakfast sandwich you're gonna find in Jersey City. No joke, those eggs are *chef's kiss* and the combination of ingredients for each sandwich is perfect. We came too late for the baked goods because they ran out :( But we'll be back soon for those.
google avatar

Shawn L.

Yelp
Just happened to find this place and it didn't disappoint. The pimento egg sandwich is legit! Will definitely be back!

Manoj G.

Yelp
Great neighborhood cafe! Lot of good bakery items...must visit if you live in Jersey City
google avatar

Ahiliya N.

Yelp
GREAT breakfast sandwiches and love their cardamom lemonade, but the line is a little nuts and moves slowly! The staff is super kind though amidst the overwhelming workplace.
google avatar

Ka Wo C.

Yelp
The egg tart is what I get up early to wait in line for. What makes it shine is the jiggly, creamy, sweet custard. I don't usually have breakfast, so at my usual mealtime I reheat the egg tarts in the oven at 350F for ~6 min to make the crust flaky again. There is a world of difference between eating it cold and reheated. The sweet potato quiche is a good choice if you want something savory. Despite being the same size as their egg tart, it is twice as filling. Their custard toast I didn't enjoy, mostly due to its tanginess (maybe lemon?). This is a bakery where you only need to check what time it opens, not when it closes -- if you are not here within an hour of its opening, your choices will be limited.

Yelp
i finally woke up early enough to order from Scram, and had such a good experience. my boyfriend and i got the pimento egg puff, ham bun, and fontina bun. absolutely incredible. how do the eggs get so fluffy? i need to learn how to do this too! my favorite was by far the ham bun, followed by the pimento egg puff. the fontina bun was also fantastic but i thought the others were more flavorful and less "one tone." yum! my boyfriend got an iced latte, which he said was good and tasty. i felt like the prices were a bit steep for what it is, but just about everything is crazy expensive now... can't wait to come back and try the mushroom egg puff and other pastries they had on display. i remember seeing an egg tart of some sort and was like, this is what i NEED to get next time! i loved the interior as well, thought everything was so cute. the person working at the cashier was also very helpful. it was super busy (as i'm sure it is every morning... they're only open for a short amount of time thurs-sun) so ordering seemed a little bit rushed with the long line behind us. the paintings with egg yolks photoshopped in were so fun to look at. will be back!

R Z.

Yelp
The food is amazing but you have to wait for a long time and it is pretty expensive for a small sandwich. Would definitely recommend it as a treat!
google avatar

Kyla B.

Yelp
Great little spot. The line was long when I got in but moved pretty quickly. Unfortunately they did not have any donuts the day I went in at 10:30am on a Sunday. I did get a corn poblano quiche and a cold brew. The cold brew was smooth and was not acidic at all. Would go back though the egg sandwiches are $11 and I felt like it was a little pricy, but the buns were made in house with locally sourced eggs.

Yelp
Came here for takeaway during covid times. Had heard about their killer breakfast sandwiches which they only after on Friday and Saturday's until 12pm. Sadly we arrived too late for those but it wasn't a total loss because we were so happy with the items we picked up. Cocoa earl grey cruller - not your typical chewy cruller texture from other donuts spots. The outside has a nice crisp and the inside almost melted in my mouth. It was a good balance of flavors between the cocoa and earl grey. Not too sweet. Egg tart - similar to a Portuguese egg tart. The crust was buttery and flaky. The ratio of custard to crust was good. Mushroom quiche - the crust is *chefs kiss* - so buttery and flaky. The quiche was delicious and ingredients tasted very fresh. Dirty chai - this tasted pretty standard for the other dirty chai lattes I've had before. Not the best I've had but not the worst either.

Yelp
I wanted to check out what the hype was about after passing by this place and always seeing a long line. I decided today will be the day and got there 10 mins before it opened. The line was short at that time moved quite fast and the whole experience took about 25mins. The staff is very friendly and they move the process along quickly. They have a selection of three types of buns and I decided to go for the ham with fried egg, pineapple jam and gruyere. The bun was super soft and the combo of flavors with a runny egg worked for me! It is a bit pricey for an egg sandwich and more of a treat for me. They had a selection of pastries and I decided to go for the egg tart and cruller. The tart is similar to a Portuguese egg tart and was so yummy. The cruller was chocolatey goodness . My chai latte was ok and probably would not go for that again. It's a cute place to visit again sometime, but only if there is not a long line.

Yelp
Overall: Fine to try a few times a year, but is the line and price worth it every weekend? Definitely not. Send one of your group members as tribute to wait and order your food, try it once, and maybe come back in a few months. Without the line, it would be an easy 4. Location: Super easy to get to at the center of downtown. They have it setup so you wait outside in line, order from right outside the door, and wait along the street by the cars. You will be waiting!! We got in line at 9:15am on a Saturday and stood in line for 30min before ordering them waited another 15min for food (since we ordered sandwiches). Service: Helpful staff. They try to get food out as it's ready. We received our drinks first and were almost done by the time we got our food. Food: Limited menu so it should be easy to order - basic coffee shop menu, pastries, and three egg sandwich options. The drinks are standard - it was nice that they had macadamia nut milk though! Now for the food... Gingerbread curler - while the flavor of gingerbread was great, I think it would have been better without the sugar coating. Pear almond pie - basically a croissant, but the flavors seem a little exaggerated, almost as if they added pear and almond extract. It was fine. Coffee cake - The flavor was there but it has a ton of butter. I've never had a coffee cake leave that aftertaste in my mouth. It was more like a pound cake. Ham bun / Bacon bun - It was nice that the sweetness of the brioche bun complimented the sandwich. The ratio of bun, meat, cheese was perfect, but was it worth the 45 min wait and $9? Fine to have once, but Basic is 4 blocks away and is cheaper and better.

Yelp
Holy egg tarts, Batman. After passing by this place and seeing a line outside for the egg sandwiches, I decided to give it a whirl. I couldn't wait in line with a three year old in tow but there was no wait for pastries so we snagged two egg tarts and some quiches. AND MY GOD - I've had my fair share of egg tarts around the world but these were damn delicious. For both the egg tarts and quiches, the crusts are flakey and crispy. No chewy sogginess here. And the egg tart was creamy and perfectly lightly sweet. The quiches were the bomb. My only problem is we are addicted and I can't imagine eating buttery creamy goodness is healthy on a regular basis but they are what everyone deserves right this minute. I will need to wait for the egg sandwich at some point!

Yelp
What a great find! Upon a friend's suggestion, my husband and I came to Scram to buy some of their pastries (raspberry muffin, scone) and immediately came back to Scram a few days later on the weekend to try their breakfast. This place is a true gem - best pastries and breakfast in town, small business, and the nicest staff ever. To date, we've tried about 5 different pastries here, 2 breakfast sandwiches, and 1 drink and there is not an item we would not recommend. The only thing is, I wish their breakfast sandwich was a daily item and not just a weekend item. My husband and I lined up for Scram on a Saturday around 9am because that was how badly we wanted to try their breakfast sandwich. Luckily, the wait wasn't long and before we know it, we brought home with us their ham bun and bacon bun. The ham bun has this to die for pineapple marinade that goes so well with the ham. On the other hand, the bacon bun has this perfectly cooked egg that oozes out immediately. I am telling you - if you're reading this far into my post and haven't decided to try Scram yet, you will regret! Highly recommend the blackberry earl grey iced tea, their ham bun, and all / any of their pastries. And just remember, while you're eating one of the best cafes in Jersey City, you're also supporting local small businesses so it's really a win-win for everyone!

Yelp
A neighborhood must! Only open from Thurs-Fri, scram always has a long line wrapped around the store. They're only taking orders to go and there is no indoor seating due to COVID. Their breakfast sandwiches are to die for as are the pastries. If you're ever in the neighborhood, stop by.

Yelp
A friend of mine purchased a bunch of goodies to bring down to me during her visit and OMG so good. The Portuguese egg tart - no introduction needed as it was delicious as always. But I LOVED the passion fruit glazed donut curl thing. Sorry, so terrible at the name but it had like a donut twisty sort of shape. It was not too sweet and had the right amount of flavor. I can't wait to travel up to Jersey city so I can stop into the shop to see what I may find on my own.
