The 19 Best Restaurants In Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh - The Infatuation

"The best word to describe Scratch & Co, a cafe and pub in Troy Hill, is eclectic. The people who work here don’t have specific job titles. Rather, they’re cross-trained to work every position, filling in where needed, which makes it feel like everyone’s just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. Go for brunch when you can get things like bagels from Hellbender, a pop-up run by one of their staff members, or the chicken confit sandwich with smoked jalapeño honey, cabbage and herb slaw, and lemon aioli. They also have a tight list of excellent local beer and cider." - elaine zedack, quayla allen

Google
First time at Scratch and had an absolutely spectacular brunch. The whole vibe of the place was chill and bright. We ordered quiche with potatoes, shakshuka, and two donuts, all of which were 10/10 delicious. Even the drip coffee was excellent. Honestly hard-pressed to say which entree we liked more, but the shakshuka might have edged to the front with the heat and spice levels being perfectly on point. Our server Cynthia was also just delightful. Kind and fun and that perfect balance of being present without it being too much. Honestly, one of the best brunches we've had in a long time and really looking forward to going back for dinner.

Nice place, strange location but they certainly make it work. If you go when they open they aren't too busy and you can hear yourself and your partner while you're chatting. Staff is friendly and accommodating, definitely a reason to return again and again but the bigger reason may be the smashed potatoes and olive oil cake!

Google
Outstanding. This place is perfect for any occasion from date night to family dinner. Highly recommend getting a reservation as they fill up quickly even on weekdays. Our waitstaff was knowledgable and kind as they provided a wonderful experience. Our kids enjoyed playing chess and reading their collection of Pittsburgh classics as we waiting for food. Each and every dish we ordered hit the mark. For example, my brother ordered the chefs design burger and they customised it to his liking perfectly! Me personally, I enjoyed their tomato and peach salad. On that note, they had a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes that were perfect for our non-meat eaters. Their use of fresh and local ingredients came through. Hope to see this place again soon!

My second visit to this restaurant and I find the standards have fallen a bit. The sides and starters were good but the salad, mains and dessert disappointed. The dark ambience is more suitable for a drinking hole rather than a good food restaurant.

Google
I wouldn’t recommend Scratch & Co. for dinner, especially considering the price point, which feels high for both Pittsburgh and the Troy Hill neighborhood. While the service was excellent and our waiter was attentive and professional, the food unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations. My steak and mashed potatoes arrived cold, and my wife’s chicken was overly chewy. We ultimately decided to take the meals to go because of the temperature and texture issues. Given the limited menu, we had hoped for a more refined and consistent dining experience, but we left feeling disappointed.

Google
Great food and truly exceptional service. They quickly and kindly accommodated our party of 6 with a wheelchair on a busy Sunday during brunch. Loved all of our food. They also checked on us several times to make sure we were well cared for. It was easily the best meal we had during our long weekend in Pittsburgh!

Google
Wow what great dining experience!! 1st off greeted by the owner is always welcoming. Im an owner of a business as well and being hands on like this owner is i new this place would rock. He seats his customers he clears tables and everything else an owner of a restaurant would do. Next our server Cynthia was amazing. Always smiling and being attentive to us. She noticed our table had a wobble she came over and took care of it. Next the decor and home feel to it was impressive. The bar was hopping and every table was filled but not overly loud. Also played awsome music. Lastly the good stuff, the food was amazing!!! From the first bite to the last it left us full because the portions are perfect!! Me and the wife said next time we will ease up to bar and grab a drink for a night cap. Pass this place along to your friends you wont be disappointed!!

Yelp
Nice vibe, great cocktails and food. I hadn't been in a few years, and was pleased to see an upgraded interior. Nice crowd early on Saturday evening. The gemelli I had was very good, locally sourced from Forma Pasta. My husband had the burger, which he loved. We shared a plate of pickles beets that we agreed we will order every time.

Yelp
This place is adorable! I love the vibes and the waitress was so friendly. I love a place that has a minimal menu option, it shows they focus on what they cook. I got the surprise burger and it was delicious with the smashed potatoes. I would highly recommend this place!

Yelp
It's a trek getting up Rialto, but oh so worth it! I was slightly concerned with the limited menu, but now I get it. Limit your offerings so you can master the flavors of what you do make. The burger was so juicy and not greasy like most smash burgers! The house made pickles ... no words! The potatoes were amazing but most of ours weren't smashed. They are served with a garlic aioli that is heavenly. Loved the freshness of the housemade bagel as well! Cute spot with exceptional service and food near perfection.

Yelp
My partner and I went for brunch and it was really nice. The restaurant itself is very cute, our service wasn't the best but the food was great which made up for it. My partner had the Smash Burger and I had the Breakfast Sandwich on an Everything Bagel. The bagel was delicious as well as the bacon in it. My partner said the burger was solid and we both enjoyed the potatoes as well. Definitely can't wait to try dinner here!

Yelp
After finally trying this restaurant, I fully understand the hype. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh (shoutout to our amazing server, Pim). I ordered the pork porchetta, which was amazing. If you like pork belly and are ok with eating a good bit on of fat, you will enjoy this dish very much. We also ordered the bread and rotating butter (smoked tomato) which was also wonderful. I washed all the food down with their house made root beer. For dessert, we shared some of the Millie's soft serve, which was a perfect ending for a stellar meal. I came with a group of 5 on a Saturday evening with reservations. We were seated on the bar side of the restaurant since the other dining room side does not have tables to accommodate a group of 5. It is darker on the bar side, so keep that in mind if you are planning to go with a large group. The service was impeccable and the restaurant is comfortable and elegant, but not stuffy. I highly recommend making reservations and stopping by to see what it is all about. I'll be back to try to the brunch soon!

Yelp
Came back for another fabulous meal at Scratch. This is such a gem. We had pickled turnips, smashed potatoes, a delicious trout fish and some tasty cocktails. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Such a cute little spot in Troy Hill. The restaurant side seem quiter and it was pretty spacious with decorative pillows around the seating area. It was cozy!! We opted to sit on the bar side in a booth and it was busy and lively! The server and bartender were very attentive and prompted! We went for restaurant week and they had a good menu! It was two appetizers and entree for $45. The appetizers were the beets and the focaccia bread!!! The bread was soft and warm! Very different than what I've had in the past but much better! The olive oil dipping sauce was also fantastic and vinegary! The pickled beets were served with ricotta and it was the perfect balance! The entree was meatloaf and it was good and cooked well! It was smaller than what we were expecting but still a good portion. I didn't go with the restaurant week menu. I ordered the radicchio salad which is a red cabbage to start. The dressing wasn't overly done and I loved the nuts and apples in it! For my entree I got the trout! It was accompanied with mash potato purée! It was a little sweet which was so different but I loved it! I also tried the cauliflower and carrot dishes! The carrots were plated beautifully and it was roasted! The cauliflower had a nice sauce that went with it and it was very Indian inspired. Has a good kick to it! We also got some olives and it was a good and salty snack to balance everything!

Yelp
One of the best brunches! Reservations on Resy are a good idea, as this is a popular spot. Street parking is available, as is food pickup. The menu has a selection of all the typical breakfast fares and doesn't disappoint. The Bloody Mary has a nice kick from the horseradish and is a little chunky. Small bits of pickled veggies are on the stick. Overall, a really good breakfast cocktail. The breakfast sandwich is served on brioche and I opted for an everything bagel. It came with a good egg to cheese ratio and nice pieces of bacon on top. The smashed potatoes with garlic aoli are a must. They have a nice crunch and are large enough to share. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Everything at Scratch is always amazing and dinner there last week for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week was no exception! My Osaka Highway Oasis cocktail (lightly sweet and sublime), the smashed potatoes (quite possibly some of the best potatoes in Pittsburgh), and the chicken and prime rib were my favorites (so flavorful and cooked perfectly!). We happened to go on a Thursday when they have their prime rib dinner and two people in our party managed to snag them (we were informed by our server that there's a limited amount each Thursday and they were out of them shortly after we ordered them). You can make reservations on Resy but the maximum number of people you can have on the reservation is seven. I called and left a message requesting to add one more to the party but my message was not returned. I talked to someone there about it upon arrival and they said we could add another person, no problem. We were seated in a cute little booth that could theoretically seat eight but be warned, it's a tight squeeze. The left side of the restaurant has some of these booths plus the bar and the right side of the restaurant when you're walking in has smaller tables for 2-6 people from what I remember with good natural lighting so if you want good food pics, try to see if you can sit on the right side. The parking situation is street parking and it's always a little dicey in Troy Hill but everyone in our party managed to find party fairly easily. Overall, our service was quite good, the food was delicious, and it's such a cute space. I would 100% go back!

Yelp
Consider this a 4.5 star review! Mixed sentiments b/n my husband & I. I'd give Scratch 5 stars; husband: 4. The loc is great in quaint - top-o-the-Troy Hill. Wowzer that hill! Super cute inside, and a very welcoming staff. Our server was great- knowledgeable, accommodating, easygoing, definitely didn't rush us. The wine list is very limited. We each got a glass of Sangiovese which was pretty good. Reasonably priced. The cocktail list looked pretty good / if you're into that. For starters - we got the house made focaccia w/ ricotta & an EVOO/sherry vinegar/chopped fresh herbs. The bread was great, as was the oil/vinegar mix. I was a bit meh on the ricotta. I've had fresher/better --- this was so thick! I also wanted to try some of their pickled veggies --- the mushrooms, specifically, but that's a no-go w/ hubs. And boy was I glad - we got the FABULOUS ranch salad . I normally hate ranch dressing - but this house-made creation was so, so fresh & flavorful & dill-fabulous! The fresh greens & bright, crispy radishes were just perfect. We were fine sharing a small; there's a large option if you're hungry. Entrees....I got the fresh trout. Yum!! That smoked tomato butter on top should be bottled and sold! The Cajun rice was so flavorful and paired so well with the smoked tomato heavenliness! The hubs --/ well -- he got the pork chop that was highly praised. I really liked it --- the sweet, local meat was really good. My husband said he thought it was way too salty. We both loved the mushroom risotto. The HUGE fungi nestled in the warm yummy Arborio rice was heaven. I wish they had a veg meal with just that risotto! No dessert for us! **Apologies - I loved the trout so much, I forgot to take a pic! Definitely will be back!

Yelp
This little spot in Troy Hill is super cute! It feels like you're going to brunch at a friend's house. The seating and decor is very aesthetic and they also sell art on the walls. The staff is super nice and attentive here. They do take reservations on Resy. It's a smaller space so I would definitely recommend reservations. The coffee was fine but I didn't really like my Thai iced tea. It tasted super milky without that Thai tea flavor. The food here is very aesthetic and nicely plated too! I love that they have a sustainable approach towards avo toast - they do an herbed chickpea toast instead. It's very pretty with an egg! I liked it but I felt very full after eating just half, so maybe the chickpea spread is a bit heavy. It was kind of hard to eat since cutting the toast was tough. They also do bagels here from Hellbender. Our party liked them and said it was on par with Pigeon Bagels. The breakfast sandwich here is really good too. Our friend enjoyed her lox toast too. Would definitely recommend this spot for brunch! I will need to come back to check out dinner and lunch since they have a great burger deal during the week and they also serve cocktails. I love that you can scan a QR code and pay on your phone when the checks come too. Very easy process to pay on Apple Pay and you don't have to wait around.

Yelp
Loved this place for a cute breakfast In Pittsburgh! We made a last minute reservation and loved the vibes. Try to get one of the couch seats! They have good gluten free substitute bun for the breakfast sandwiches which was great. The non-gluten free people raves about the lavender donuts and even ordered some to go. Only con was that the food took a long time to come out but expected on a Sunday morning.

Yelp
The hype is real! My husband and I just celebrated our first wedding anniversary and stayed the night on the North Side at our wedding venue, and decided that we should have a nice brunch nearby the next morning. We made a reservation (very easy, via Resy!) and had a short waiting time when we arrived. We were comfortable sitting in the very cute, cozy lounge area while we waited. It was VERY busy, so I highly recommend a reservation if you want a spot for brunch on the weekend. Once seated, our server was quick to take our beverage orders. We both tried the Vietnamese iced coffee and LOVED it - it was very sweet and creamy, and almost had a chocolate flavor to it from the dark roast. We also were quick to order homemade donuts because we had heard that they're a must. It turns out that we snagged the last two of the day at 11:20am, so keep that in mind if you want donuts! They were SO good - coated in cinnamon sugar, and the dough itself is not hyper sweet. Perfectly balanced. For entrees, we shared a bagel board (two bagels, two types of cream cheese, and all the classic toppings such as capers and onions, plus lox) and a side of smashed potatoes. We waited for a while, probably the only downside of our meal, but we chalked it up to a busy and packed Sunday morning and the food all being fresh and made to order. Once our food arrived, we dove in and enjoyed every part of the brunch. The bagels are outstanding - some of the best I've ever had. The toppings were fresh and snappy, and the cream cheeses were perfect (we tried the dill and the jalapeño). Then, the breakfast potatoes, oh my goodness... they are fried and craggy and salty and delicious, in a bowl with aioli and chives. Perfect in every way. I ordered a mimosa halfway through brunch and it was very delicious as well. All in all, we really loved our experience and cannot wait to return! I personally want to visit for a dinner pop-up next, though I may not be able to resist the bagels for very long. No

Yelp
I sooo wanted to love this place and write a solid review, but I just cannot. Came here this past weekend for brunch and although the space is super-cute, cozy and interesting the food service left a lot to be desired. We all ordered warm coffee drinks and then placed our meal options, then sat back to chat and wait for items to arrive. At some point, the server told us that two (of our five) coffees were "in the window" and she'd bring everything out shortly. Well, it was a fair amount of time before she showed up with all drinks and three of the five items were now room temperature. Maybe just bring out the hot stuff when you can? Same story with our meals...kitchen was backed up and it took quite a while for the dishes to show up at the table, but they were all in fact delivered at the same time. My daughter and I decided to get unique items and split them both...breakfast carbonara and short rib hash. I had a few issues with each dish. Although the breakfast carbonara was fairly tasty with its creamy parmesan sauce and fried chunks of bacon, the rigatoni noodles were an odd choice as the thin carbonara sauce did not stick to the pasta all that well which is why a more traditional flat noodle seems to work better in this recipe. As for the short rib hash, it was more like a plate of short ribs chunks along with potato chunks atop a thick ,sweet onion-based gravy. I would have thought a more savory gravy would be better with this dish...my wife also ordered this dish and she seemed to enjoy it. Wish the beef chunks were a bit more moist as well. As I've said, everything seemed just a bit off. I am appreciative of establishments attempting to put their own mark on a dish, giving it a twist or something out of the ordinary, but for me these preparations missed the mark.

Yelp
Great brunch at Scratch! Food is always great and the service is amazing! The place is warm and inviting. We started off with Bloody Mary's that were just spicy enough. My husband had the breakfast bagel sandwich and I had the Everything Bagel with Horseradish-Dill and all the toppings. We shared the potatoes which are awesome! I took a Latte to go-Maple Rosemary that was outstanding. Consistently great food and friendly service-can't wait to return!

Yelp
Very disappointing experience. This was my first time eating here. I took my wife and 3 young kids. We reordered a black coffee, latte, 3 donuts, 2 bagel breakfast sandwiches, and 3 kids meals (1 breakfast sandwich and 2 burgers) - total was $68 before tip! The price might have been acceptable if the food was good, but it was not. They were also out of some of the breakfast options. Me and my wife's everything breakfast sandwich bagel was $14 and did not have that much egg and bacon on it and did not taste very unique for the price point. It was very peppery spicy (assuming it was from the bacon's seasoning). When I asked for jelly or jam to help balance it they did not have any. The kids complained their sandwiches were spicy too. No toppings or sides came with the kids sandwiches and they were $7 each with very little meat. Basically just a buttered brioche bun with meat on it for the burgers. The donuts did not taste very fresh and had very little flavor only lots of sugar on top. I've been to local coffee shops and bagel shops around Pittsburgh that serve breakfast sandwiches and sweets. This restaurant IMO ranks very low in terms of flavor, quantity, price, and overall value. I will not be eating here again. I wish them the best and hope they improve things.

Yelp
So happy with our date night. Pim was our waitress and honestly she was the best. Service was spot on. She was lovely to chat with but also gave us plenty of space. The food was spectacular as always. Very tasty came out hot and fast. This is our go to spot in the city for comfort and celebration.

Yelp
5 Stars for everything! Creative And delicious! Great cocktails and service. And did I mention the Cinnamon crunch Toast desert? Wow!

Yelp
Such a lovely dinner at this cute restaurant in the Troy Hill area. Service was impeccable. Food was great - we had the bread, deviled eggs and salad to start, then had chicken and carrots for the main meal. We finished with chocolate cheesecake (I'd ask for no mint syrup). Highly recommend.

Yelp
Had a fabulous first visit to scratch & co to celebrate a friend's birthday. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel and added jalapeño spread on the side. The espresso martini was fabulous as well. Our server was so friendly and checked on us often! Only downside was it took a bit of time to get our meals. This could be because our party was 10 folks, but I wish it was a little quicker. The vibes are great though and give a real home cooked cozy energy. Parking is on the street so you may have to walk a few blocks if it's a busy time. Would love to come back and try the other meal menus & pop up menus!

Yelp
Great quaint and charming spot for brunch. Inside is lovely decorated, almost feeling like you're in a cabin/library. The food was very good and very picturesque. I got the lox mousse toast after eyeing the table next to us who ordered the same. It was one slice of toast with lox mousse topped with trout caviar and pickled onion. It was a smaller plate but sufficient for me. My husband loves bagels so we were really excited that they have a bagel board with interesting smears like roasted jalapeño and horseradish dill. I definitely want to come back for dinner since the dishes were so unique here. I loved the aesthetics of this place and the service was excellent!

Very good brunch spot. Hidden gem in Pittsburgh for brunch. Would recommend. Friendly staff and good food.

Yelp
Scratch & Co is one of my newfound loves in 2023. Everything is so good, I doubt you could go wrong here. The setup is cozy and the atmosphere is really great. Plus the staff are also very upbeat and accommodating! Awesome on all fronts. They have a great customer loyalty program, they serve breakfast lunch and dinner, and they change up their menu often, so there's always something to love! I made a special order for a few dozen donuts for my birthday and they were out of this world. Everyone at work kept asking where they're from.

Yelp
Found this little gem looking for a Pittsburgh Strip District restaurant. It is in one of those 'seriously, how do you drive on this narrow street' neighborhoods, as well as 'ok, so where do ya park??' Trust me, it's worth the very little hassle. If you like eclectic fresh, different food in a very low key 'funky' atmosphere , this is your place. The signage is sparse, which is why I included it. Staff is great, friendly. Lots of nice choices. They are allergy aware for those needing special consideration. Give this great place a try!

Yelp
Incredible food, drinks and service. The food is locally sourced. The menu rotates. The staff is knowledgable. Even the BREAD is good...the BREAD! This is my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh - treat yourself!

Yelp
Finally had the chance to check out their brunch! I heard great things about their breakfast especially the bagel from Hellbender, so we had no hesitant in ordering the bagel board and it did not disappoint! For the bagel board for 2 ($15), you got 2 bagels of your choice (options of plain, everything and pastrami) and 2 schemers (options of plain, dill and pickles, roasted jalapeños) with all the veggie toppings. We obviously passed the plain options and went for the spices. And we also added lox ($7). The bagels are amazing - crispy on the outside and chewy dough inside, the pastrami spices even makes it better, HellBender is definitely on the top 3 of best bagel list in Pittsburgh. I prefer the dill and pickle schemer, very flavorful! We also shared the shakshuka, which had the best dippy eggs. However I think the sauce can be better - it's spicier than I expected which I did enjoy, but lack of other flavor. The coffee are from RedHawk roasters, yummy. - Overall highly recommend this place for a nice brunch! They also offer a list of brunch cocktails, worth to check out.

Yelp
Absolutely loved scratch & co. Went for Saturday breakfast and cannot wait to go back. The service was fast and friendly and the seats were adorable with a comfy couch and mismatched dishes. The smashed potatoes and breakfast sandwich were amazing. Not pictured were the old-fashioned donuts, pretty good

Yelp
Great Service and Great Atmosphere Let's start with the fact that their signature donut is a little meal or big snack, and it's delicious. A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I had planned to visit here for a long time, and finally made it during a weekday brunch. We sat at the bar, and the waiter brought our menus, some water, and told us about a few specific dishes. We asked what her favorite choices were, and ordered those. I got an espresso and my wife had an oat milk latte. It is very nice when restaurants have full service coffee bars, as it adds a lot of character to the experience. The bar's alchohol selection was good. Our food and drinks came out quickly, we ate the food, and talked with the bartender a little bit. Shiloh Gastro is extremely busy on the weekends, so a reservation is suggested, but this weekday it was relatively quiet pre-lunch and dinner, which was nice. The owner came out and talked with us for twenty minutes, and it was nice to hear about the restaurant's vision, and his experiences in the industry. The food was delicious, and we plan to go back for dinner in the future. It was a very pleasant experience. The atmosphere was very warm and fun, and the detailed wood and brick, small highlight shelves on the walls behind the booths really added to the aesthetic appeal.

Yelp
This is such an adorable, cozy little neighborhood gem up on Troy Hill. Since it's small, make a reservation if you'd like to snag a table. We called and they said we didn't need a res, about 15 mins later we got there and no tables were available on the "restaurant" side. We didn't want to sit in the bright "cafe" side so we're glad we were able to grab seats at the bar. Stuff like that is frustrating but it worked out, so no stars off of my experience. We just loved the overall homey vibes here. The decor over the bar adds to the ambiance & the glassware & plates are such a cute touch. I feel I'm overusing the word "cozy" but it truly is. After so much rich food over Christmas I wasn't super hungry & was craving some greens. The Little Gem Salad hit the spot. The crispy carrots added a great texture. The sourdough with seasonal butter was also delicious. To drink, I got the "Oh My Flipping Gourd" which was almost like egg nog. Overall, fantastic low-key little date here. Definitely recommend for a little winter date spot.

Yelp
Absolutely an adorable space, my group of 4 sat in a booth along the bar. Our reservation was for 5pm and the restaurant was pretty empty however as the night went on it certainly started to fill up. We imbied in some cocktails and started with an order of olives and mushrooms. I'm not much a mushroom lover anymore however my friends absolutely raved over them. I did enjoy a few of the olives however and those were delightful but watch for pits. Prior to our meal coming out we also shared an order of poutine, coming from Buffalo, a city close to the border this poutine did not compare. The thin gravy lacked flavor and the cheese curds were cold! For my main course I ordered the fried chicken, upon coming out I compared it to a scotch egg. I'm not sure what the breading is but unfortunately it was a very thick shell around the chicken that was more of a barrier than bread coating. The BBQ sauce served on the side did add a bit of needed flavor and spice and was a nice compliment. Unfortunately the parsnip puree (I think) completely missed the mark for me. We split a due of cheesecake, one pumpkin and the other chocolate. These decedent desserts were the perfect way to end a meal. I would consider coming back when in the area as it appears the menu changes frequently.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Nice little cafe and pub that has very friendly service. Learned a little about the pop ups that are there in the evenings Monday thru Wednesday. Small but nice menu that has some breakfast items and a few lunch items after 11. My porchetta sandwich came on a fresh bun with some sharp provolone was very tasty. Really enjoyed the sandwich. Looking forward to stopping back and trying some of the other items on the menu.

Yelp
Loved the food here! The service was excellent and we went on a pop up night where another chef picks the menu. We went on Pickle night. We really enjoyed ourselves trying this out. We will be back for another pop up night for sure. Our waitress was wonderful and the staff was so pleasant. The interior is very homie and you can either dress up or dress relaxed at this location. Loved it.

Yelp
Came here on a date night on a Saturday. Favorite part was the ambiance of the place - quirky and laid back. Casual but not sloppy. Drinks - very unique drink menu. Favorite was "drink your veggies" with mezcal. Menu is perfect for sharing so don't go with a picky eater! Favorites were the baccala and short ribs. Service - attentive but not over overbearing. Overall cute place - good for sharing a meal or a quick drink and snack. Rating system: 5.0- obsessed. Wouldn't change a thing. Wish I lived here 4.0 - a must go place. Has its flaws but guaranteed to be enjoyable. 3.0- would go to again under specific circumstances but not my top choice 2.0 - wouldn't recommend and won't be back. 1.0 - something must have been terribly wrong for me to publicly review a business so harshly.

Yelp
Oh do I love the idea of a scratch kitchen. Hubby and I go to a different one on occasion and it's fabulous so I was super excited to get to Scratch on Troy Hill. We went with friends and they sat 6 of us in a booth - a little crowded but not too bad. We started with a few apps. I had the baguette which came on slate with 3 different spreads. The herb one was very tasty. The bread to spread proportion was way off though and we ended up with lots of extra spreads. For mains, I tried something called "the daily gravy". I kid you not that it was pretty much just a plate of spaghetti with pork in the sauce. I was pretty disappointed as I expected something more "foodie" and unique. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich with smashed potatoes and they forgot to make it so by the time it came out, the rest of us were finishing our meals. I don't know what the deal was but he felt like the chicken was "off". It was too dark to see it but he didn't feel well after eating about half of it. The smashed potatoes were delicious though - I stole some from his plate. Dessert was donuts. I had the glazed one and it was really yummy. My husband didn't have one because he wasn't feeling well after the chicken. I'd think about trying Scratch again as I know their menu changes frequently. The atmosphere is so nice and I've read so many positive reviews - I just wish our first experience had been better.

Yelp
Great ambiance, excellent service and delicious food! Will try again and recommend to others. It is a hidden gem in Troy Hill.

Yelp
What a fantastic place. I came for the first time for brunch today and got the short rib and hash breakfast with Vietnamese cold brew with sweet milk added. I haven't had such a tasty brunch meal in a good while. The portion was excellent. Not too much, not too little and satisfyingly right. The short rib was juicy, tender and the potatoes were so crispy and delicious. And it was topped with a perfectly runny egg. Every bite was absolutely tasty. Dave the host was very attentive to us. I had such a tough time deciding what to order. Looks like I will have to come back and try all the other items on the menu. I also took home the smoked trout breakfast sandwich which was oh so yummy. Thank you for a fabulous meal and I'll be back soon

Yelp
Food is fresh and flavorful! Small place, but they have good trivia on Tuesdays! Cocktails are also unique and incredible

Yelp
Absolutely fell in love at first visit. Walking into Scratch & Co, there is a warm and welcoming ambiance. Someone immediately greeted our party, and directed us to our table. The booths are cozy, and there are pillows in each of the booths. The lighting is just right as well. Their menu changes, so there is always something new to try. Our group of 8 had tried the butternut squash ravioli, sweet potato gnocchetti, Trout, and the Patty Melt. We each enjoyed our meals. The Espresso Martini is a must try. We had a bit of a wait for our food, but the servers were very attentive while waiting. There was ample street parking in front of the restaurant. I would definitely be back! 100% recommend!

Yelp
Haven't had a bad bite here! Very able to accommodate gluten free diets, usually has a small menu with one vegetarian option, so you may want to check the menu ahead to make sure your vegetarian friends can eat. I appreciated the tall booth seating, which feels very intimate.

Yelp
Had a delicious meal for a friends birthday here the other night! The menu is different and casual, but the food is delicious. Two of my friends are vegetarian and one is gluten free and they had plenty of options for everyone to easily find something yummy. I got the butternut squash cannelloni and it was delicious! I never order cannelloni when I'm out to dinner, but this seems to be one of their specialties and I am a fan! We also got both ice creams for desert, the vegan chocolate and the old fashioned and both were great!!

Yelp
Very good and fresh. Didn't taste the lemon aioli very much but was a great lunch. Would recommend the smashed potatoes as a side

Yelp
We returned for dinner this time at an early Saturday evening. We made a reservation but turned out that we didn't need it as there was a lot of seating so early in the evening. Food and service was outstanding. We had the mesclun salad and regretted ordering the smaller size. The bagel crumbs on it give it a really good flavor and crunch. The falafel was also very good and extremely flavorful. The carrots plate was not too soft, a little crunch still in them, which is how we like them. This paired well with the trout entree. The trout sauce has some kick to it, so I ended up often dipping the carrots into the sauce. We wished we had ordered bread to sop off the rest of that sauce. My husband had a beer and I had something the bartender made up which went according to my tastes of something like a bloody mary with spice and herbs. The drink was perfect. We finished off with a donut with lavender sugar. I was afraid that there would be a strong taste of lavender which I'm not fond of, but the donut was so good that we cleared all the crumbs from the plate. Parking is street parking. Must come again!

Yelp
This restaurant is crazy good, one of the best in Pittsburgh. The food is creative and it's mostly farm to table. You can always find something spectacular for vegetarians, they are important customers here. The dinning room is quite intimate, with the bar on the other side. Both are great places to eat and drink. Right now, Scratch has stepped up their take out/delivery service with a nice take-out window or curbside pickup if you prefer that. They are extremely successful with take-out because they get everything right. But I have to mention their Zhug dish, which is out of this world. Who knew you could get fine Yemeni cuisine in Troy Hill? The vegetarian entree is Roasted Root Vegetables, Rice, and Pita. It's the sauces Tahini, Zhug, and Harissa that put this meal over the top, really quite delicious and spicy. I don't always get dessert, but how can you pass on the Berries with Sabayon? It's fresh fruit with a remarkable Italian whipped topping. You certainly can't go wrong with anything on the menu, definitely a restaurant I've followed since it opened, and I will keep going back to.

Yelp
Great high tea option on Sundays. About $33 per person including tax and gratuity. The menu includes seven teas (caffeinated and herbal/decaf), plus tea sandwiches, biscuits, toast, jams and macaroons. All teas are from their partner Tupelo Honey Teas in Millvale. This is indoor only. It's worth checking out if you are a fan of high tea!

Yelp
Wednesday night special burger night did not disappoint. A delicious burger for only $9 @ the bar. This burger was huge with so much flavor. I also got an espresso martini that was awesome. Friendly staff & a great deal. Can't wait to try more menu items next time!

Yelp
We visited this place for a Sunday brunch and loved everything about it. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and prompt. It's just a really cool place with a great vibe. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food does not justify the price point as it is underwhelming in terms of flavor. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad, it just didn't meet expectations. I don't mind paying more for a solid dish, but unfortunately the menu items weren't worth the cost.

Yelp
Wow! Excellent brunch. We had the 2 plates: Shakshuka and the short rib hash. Both were excellent. We ordered extra sourdough toast to finish all the sauce. Yum! Fantastic service. Resy reservation.
