Drip coffee only. Food served on paper plates with plastic silverware. Bacon was the precooked type. Indoor seating was pretty sparse. Employees were nice and courteous. Expensive for quality. Soda bread was sweet and loaded with raisins. Was rather shocked based on glowing prior reviews.

Had an amazing brunch here. Food was delicious, the atmosphere was very relaxed, and the staff was super friendly. Will definitely be returning. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend this place.

This place had so much character and charm. Our food was made to order and it was DELICIOUS. The danish was wonderful as well. Me and my husband are in San Antonio celebrating our wedding anniversary and we sat outside in their gardens and watched the hummingbirds and just had an amazing time. The girl up front was also so sweet.

We used Scratch Kitchen to cater our wedding and it was AMAZING! Becky was awesome to work with, as she listened to all of my needs and was flexible to changes. The food was absolutely delicious, we wanted "brunch for dinner" and they delivered! I also think the value for the price is great, it included the whole meal, a dessert table, a beautiful cake, great service, plus extras! One thing that my husband and I loved is that they served us at our sweetheart table and came back a couple of times to check on us and see if needed anything- it's the little things like that! Our friends and family raved about how good the food was. Definitely recommend using Scratch kitchen to cater your wedding!

Google
Charming little shop with a terrific brunch offerings. I had the chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, and it was delicious and zingy, the way I like it. A taste of their pecan bar left me wanting another. Would love to come back!

Google
A hidden San Antonio gem with a charming ambiance and a smashing little playlist full of an arrange of songs from different genres and eras. I got the Irishman’s breakfast and drip coffee, I recommend.

Google
Love this house cafe. It’s old, but beautiful inside. Sandwiches and flourless chocolate cupcake were champ and delicious. The lady at the front and server were nice and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Google
Everything was delicious only downside is that there is minimal seating inside if the weather isn't cooperating. Those with mobility issues may have problems navigating the entry and garden areas

Yelp
What a chill ambiance here on a Saturday AM. Had a fabulous breakfast, but had to head somewhere else for a nice espresso. Would have been nice to have stayed and eaten & had a nice cuppa.

Yelp
Having to fast for an early morning blood draw, I was motivated to find something close to the clinic to get something to eat and that is how I found myself at Scratch Kitchen. Located in an old historic looking building with a small parking lot available, I walk inside and look over the menu at the counter while also looking at all the freshly baked goods on the counter. I'm torn between going sweet or savory for breakfast.....savory wins. I order the bacon, egg, and avocado sandwich with the breakfast potatoes on the side. When the order is ready, I take a my first bite and immediately taste the freshness of the brioche bun, it's light and just melts in my mouth. The egg was perfect, the bacon crispy, the avocado/tomato fresh and the cheese was nice and melted. A really good breakfast sandwich. The breakfast potatoes were scalloped and kinda au gratin style which I didn't prefer and would probably order the fruit next time. Overall, this was a great first experience at Scratch Kitchen and I look forward to coming back and trying the sweet baked goods next time.

Yelp
"Quaint" best describes this place. I went by myself last year and the food was good. Since then I've had their sandwiches and salads via event catering and those were even better. The BLT with turkey was my favorite. Do they make their own multigrain bread? If not, they shop well. They make a lot of sweets, too.

Yelp
Always delicious and a delight. Such a charming setting to sit and snack in their garden area. And it's honestly so hard these days to find the perfect classic gingerbread.

Yelp
Finally tried this spot a few weeks ago! Went on a solo lunch date and it was nice. Cute little spot with street parking. Limited seating inside and then there's outdoor seating too. The worker was very nice, but busy, I think he was the only one working. I had the pimento grilled cheese. They have a good lunch special that comes with sandwich, side salad, and half a sweet treat. It was a great lunch! Only complaint was that there were a few flies in the restaurant. I plan on returning for breakfast or as an afternoon pick me up some day. Little tip: check in on Yelp and get a free drip coffee! Will be returning to return that offer soon!

Yelp
The cutest, quaint cafe that serves breakfast and brunch. The he building is nostalgic and vintage. When we walked in, you get taken back in time with a beautiful fireplace and ceilings has wooden boards. Everything there is made from "Scratch!" Prices are reasonable based on B&B food! Come support them and enjoy!! Chow Chow Time!!

Steve G.

Yelp
This restaurant in in and older and Very unusual house- but cool! You walk in past some garden seating to see the bakery case. We came in for breakfast so we're able to control temptation. Lol Great feed! The Piggy's are kolaches made with a biscuit type dough. After enjoying the sausage and cheese part I got some Apricot Preserves to finish the bread with- good! The Irish breakfast was good with a great vegetable medley that paired excellently with the eggs. Stumbled in this place- great find! And yeah, we succumbed to the pastry case in the way out! :)

Yelp
It's a really sweet place. Cute woodsy area in the front - entrance can be a bit confusing if you park in their small lot. Doesn't help when there is a lot of construction going on. It looks like they have a very busy catering / take out, multiple bags being prepared and picked up while we were there. The staff (guy) who helped us was really friendly and very helpful while funny. The space is tight. Older converted small house with small rooms- poor ventilation, not very cool rooms. Went with my friend and we ordered the chicken salad and grilled pimento cheese sandwiches and we shared. We had the combo (potato rosemary, kettle chips & my friend had the soup & quinoa). Soup was a little heavy. My friend really liked the quinoa. The chicken salad definitely was pickle forward and had a bit going on- I didn't taste much of the chicken and a bit dry. Reminded me of a really good tuna salad. The pimento sandwich was good- different when grilled. I would almost ask for it cold - the pimento was that good. They have bottle and canned drinks. We had the lemon bar and the Mexican wedding cookie. I will say the flies were pretty bad which was surprising but not shocking based on the last review. They are everywhere and pesky as can be. This really took away from the experience. I hope you stop by and share your experience.

Yelp
Great gem of a sandwich shop. It is quaint inside with eclectic furniture. You can tell that the food is made from scratch. We also got catering from Scratch for a work event and the quality was on par with individual orders! Don't sleep on Scratch kitchen. The food is amazing! Only downside, if you eat inside you might leave smelling like the kitchen.

Yelp
Small quaint and enjoyable. Like a bakery that has a side gig of full meals. Food was quite tasty! Confections were creative for Halloween. Nothing fancy, plastic forks, paper plates, (no recycling) ...but delicious. The building itself needs some help. The patio and patio tables rather sad-extremely uneven, very weathered... just needs a healthy injection of maintenance/upkeep/refurbishment.

Caryn K.

Yelp
The service was quick, the employees were friendly and the food was good quality! Their was plenty of seating outside and a little bit of seating inside. All the pastries are beautifully displayed and look scrumptious! I tried a cinnamon roll with my tomato, bacon, avocado, and egg breakfast sandwich. The bread was all homemade and the ingredients were freshly chopped/prepped. I enjoyed my sandwich, but I will definitely be asking for some cholula or salsa to add on top the next time, bc I think that will take it to the next level. The cinnamon roll was jam packed with pecans and aired more on the side of a traditional cinnamon roll. I'm all about that cream cheese icing and gooey, under-cooked center of the roll (which I know is a big 'no no'), but I still enjoyed this one quite a bit. You should consider checking this place out for breakfast or brunch if you are in the area!

Yelp
I attended an elite event and felt an urge to have lunch so looked up restaurants near me and found Scratch Kitchen. The food is amazing! As the name implies, everything is made from scratch. For lunch they offered a lunch special which is a full size sandwich, 2 sides and half portion of a dessert. Amazing!!!!! The service is wonderful. We walked in and were greeted then our order taken. The young lady that worked even made suggestions about what was good and she made excellent suggestions. The location is small and quaint with limited seating inside but plenty outside on a nice day.. They have their own parking lot which is nice. Overall experience is a 5 out of 5 for Scratch Kitchen.

Kay J.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious. Food was quick and hot. Service was polite and was great help with the pastry's

Bradley W.

Yelp
The 2 people that were working couldn't keep up with the customer flow. It was brunch time on a Sunday and the staff was overwhelmed. They really needed a third employee to help. 2 people in my group ordered hot coffee and the bottom of the cups gave out pouring scalding liquid into their laps. When I informed the staff about the safety concerns with the coffee cups he seemed annoyed and uninterested. Someone is going to get seriously burned due to the poor choice of drink ware. The quiche was mostly crust with little filling.

Yelp
Fair breakfast fare, nice feel, and great service. We dropped by the Scratch Kitchen yesterday for a quick morning bite. It was nice. The early fall weather made it very enjoyable, and the morning traffic on San Pedro was not too busy to distract from the ambience. We walked in and were greeted, and briefed on the menu, the baked goods, and hot drip coffee. I had the Piggies and Eggs, and a coffee. Nothing too complicated, and it wasn't bad. The pigs in a blanket were pretty good, the eggs were masterfully flipped at over medium. The pineapple wasn't the ripest, but the green grapes were plump and seedless. There is seating on the inside and on the front porch of the house, that stands in for a bakery/kitchen. Ample parking is available behind the house, and on the street. I'm excited about trying the biscuits and gravy everybody is raving about on the next visit - should we make it back on the weekend. The brunch menu is different than their M-F fare. If you visit, don't forget to check-in. You'll find a coupon for free coffee at this place... not too shabby.

Dawn B.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Fresh Mozzarella Sandwich today along with Simple Salad, Broccoli Cheddar Soup, and 1/2 Pecan Square today all for only $13!!! This was my first in person experience at Scratch but I've been loving their Pecan Squares ever since they used to supply to Black Rifle Coffee and the Pimento Cheese bento box at UHS in their deli cases. This spot never disappoints!

Yelp
Decided to try Scratch Kitchen for Sunday brunch. Walking up I was a bit off put as the outside area looked cute and shady but unkempt. I thought they could use a good gardener. Walking in, I again had second thoughts as it's a tiny space. Only about 20 people can sit inside. I texted my friend that we may not want to stay. However, Steve did a great job of making me feel welcome and explaining the menu. I checked in and used a Yelp coupon for a free coffee. Once Steven mentioned that the flourless cupcake was gluten free I was sold. I took a few bites of the cupcake and it was pure decadence. Yum! Coffee was good too. Once my friend arrive we ordered. We both asked for soft scrambled eggs and I asked to omit the sandwich bun and tomato as the menu said this could be accommodated. I heard Steven tell the chef but our meals that came out had none of these changes. Regular scramble and sandwich bun with tomato. Oh well, it looked good so we dug in. The food was delish! Home cooked flavor! My dish had plenty of avocado. It was at least have of a large one, not skimpy like other places. Everything was very good and service was great. Only downside was the dining room was pretty warm on this 100 degree plus day. Could have used at least a fan if not a mini AC. Also no ice available for our drinks which had gone warm quickly. Otherwise this is. Cute neighborhood family owned restaurant that you'll enjoy.

Vandana S.

Yelp
Amazing food. Healthy choices. Great service. Host helped me pick the perfect vegetarian sandwich. Cozy ambiance which is not loud. Could grab a meal while working at the restaurant.

Jennine K.

Yelp
Came for brunch!! Super cute little bakery with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was wonderful and so nice!!! She explained each item in the display case. My quiche was delicious and the muffin was chocolate goodness!

Yelp
Amazing service shown through food. This small restaurant is something that many people would drive past hundreds of times not even knowing it was there and it's a gem hidden in plain sight. As soon as you walk in the aroma of fresh food hits you in the face. You can see back in the kitchen that they are cutting FRESH potatoes for their side dish which by the way was delicious. The weather was perfect to sit on their garden patio and while we did wait a bit for our food to come out the man who served us was apologetic and explained that he only wanted to serve the best and hadn't liked the quality of the original dish he prepared and needed to redo it. the care and passion that goes into each plate that goes out is noticed by presentation and taste! I recommend all the way and I will be back.

Philip W.

Yelp
Lunch at Scratch Kitchen earlier was a sweaty mess, no vents in the small dining area. Flies everywhere, including inside the glass case. I asked for a glass of ice, they didn't have ice!!!! It's 98 degrees, why dont you go get some and put it in a chest?! The tap water is devoid of ice, just water and berries in a self serve jug. The place is noisy with just 2 families, about 8 people in it. The parking lot is unpaved and tight and can only handle about 8 cars, but at least it's close. The food was good, the cashier is friendly. The prices were fair. I wanted to love it, but I won't be back.

Terri N.

Yelp
Went in to pick up lunch. I always love the charm of this place. Inside and out6is absolutely charming. The food is always good and the people are always nice.

Jackie L.

Yelp
The coffee is hot and bold the food is solid and the baked goods are a carbaholic's dream! The side potatoes are so good!

Bailey C.

Yelp
Delicious!! The food was amazing and at a reasonable price. Highly recommend. Cute cafe with unique seating and environment overall. The food is delicious and the menu rotates as to provide new flavors for every visit.

Alexander N.

Yelp
Today's visit to this brunch spot was far from what I had hoped for. Sadly, it seems my search for a good brunch place in SA is still at 0-2. The decision to serve brunch on paper plates, especially for the adult menu, caught me off guard, especially given the prices attached to the dishes. The menu's pricing felt out of balance with the quality and portion sizes offered. Regrettably, the subpar service added to the disappointment, making the overall experience fall short of expectations. On a positive note, the establishment had good lighting and a homey ambiance, but these small pros couldn't salvage the overall dissatisfaction. Hoping for improvements in the future, but for now, it's a hard pass from me.

Debra F.

Yelp
I've driven past this place so many times and always said I wanted to stop in and try it. Today was the day. It's so cute from the street view. It's on San Pedro so you get the street view but it looks like it's part of the neighborhood. There's seating outside and a curved stairway to go to the upper level. There's free parking on the property which is awesome and the entrance is the same level. You step inside and you get a comfortable, relaxed, homely welcoming. It's small inside but big enough to make memories. The Croque Madame was hot and tasty. Side of veggies and potatoes made a fulfilling breakfast. The potatoes were cold, which I didn't expect, and the coffee was good enough. Overall, a great first experience and I'll be sure to go back!

Jackie E.

Yelp
So hard to pick what to order because everything on the menu looks delicious! Everything was like the best homemade version there is. So fresh and good portion sizes. Giving 4 stars because it was very warm inside and there aren't fans.

Bella O.

Yelp
Wow, the food was absolutely delicious! They don't have seating for kiddos, but it worked perfectly fine for us as we sat outside. We were a party of 9, 5 adults and 4 kids. We had the biscuits and gravy, croque madame, mini quiches, and two other sandwiches. The veggies were perfectly seasoned, and everything just tasted great. Will definitely be retuning!! The pumpkin muffin was absolutely amazing!

Holly M.

Yelp
Local quaint coffee shop. Doesn't have espresso or fancy coffee but the delicious food and bakery items make up for it. I was impressed by the freshness and flavor. Service was great! So friendly and sweet. I had brunch to eat there but also bought homemade bread and pastries to go. You have to go check it out.

Peter M.

Yelp
I forgot to take a picture because by the time my food got to me I was hungry and boy did it ever look delicious. I had the Irish breakfast and it was incredible. Fast friendly service and very quaint little spot off San Pedro. I'll definitely bring the wife back.

Bambi 4.

Yelp
This is such a cute little cafe. They have a bakery when you walk in with the most freshest pastry's. We had gotten the raspberry cinnamon roll and it was amaaazzzinngggg. We also order the Irish man breakfast and the potatoes and eggs were cooked soo perfectly it literally melted in your mouth. The cashier was such a sweet lady and gave recommendations that had food without pork ! Definitely will be coming back and I recommend for everyone to try this place ! It's so peaceful to sit outside and enjoy the food with the view. Also it is pet friendly so you can bring your furbaby along !!!

Renee J.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Scratch Kitchen and I was so impressed with the quality of their homemade foods and the price point. Our meal came with a full sized sandwich filled with meat and cheeses, a baked item, and two sides. I chose the cream of mushroom soup that was filled with fresh cooked mushrooms and the Mediterranean quinoa, amazing as well! I chose a Monte crispy sandwich that was paired with a berry reduction that was perfectly crafted as well. These people don't have a flaw in their menu as each part of my meal seemed to be as well made from scratch as the other! A perfect name for this business for sure!

Brittany G.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late breakfast during the week and found a quite little slice of paradise. I had the bacon quiche which was DELICIOUS and full of good-for-you vegetables, and I was able to enjoy it on their beautiful patio before it got too hot. The staff was great too! They helped with all of my questions about the different pastries and even made suggestions. I will definitely be back!

Priscilla V.

Yelp
Hello All, please make your way to Scratch Kitchen if you are into home made breads and a good ole sandwich and their pimento is delicious on their whole grain bread. I buttered it up and toasted a slice on my comal and spread a generous layer of pimento, Omg The pigs in a blanket are mini Sausages wrapped in biscuit dough and I also bought a mini quiche, they're the size of a cupcake which is a perfect breakfast portion. In total I spent $25 for a loaf of hand made whole grain bread, a quiche, two pigs in a blanket, a breakfast sandwich, homemade pimento and one cup of coffee. Pics are attached, enjoy

Cindy M.

Yelp
There is almost nowhere to sit and the whole place needs a good cleaning. They are very friendly and the food was good, except for the the pastry which was stale and dry. Overall experience was regretful.

Sal G.

Yelp
Cool space, but the outdoor area could've been cleaner. Food was just fine, nothing special.

Noli L.

Yelp
The food is amazing!!! Staff is clean and friendly and know their stuff! Give it a try

D C.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!! Love the eggs Benedict. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. It's a gem!

Susan

Yelp
A little disappointing, except for the counter clerk who was friendly. Water was available from a jug, however it was warm (no ice). The A/C could have been cooler (2 of us were sweating), and the ladies who ordered the chicken salad said there was an unusual/funny flavor in the sandwich. (My mozzarella was fine). The building itself could use a little love too.

Nancy M.

Yelp
Went for lunch and had the chicken salad sandwich and daughter had the BLT. It tastes fresh and homemade. That bacon is so crispy! There's one person working the kitchen and he was so friendly despite the full dining room. You get a free dessert with your meal. The desserts were heavenly. I chose a lemon bar and my daughter had the chocolate chip cookies. The lemon bar was crusty and delicious, not sweet but not tart, literally just right. The chocolate chip cookies were full of chips and just full of flavor. If you want something fresh and filling definitely give them a try. The indoor dining is small but they do have tables outside on the patio as well.

Faith R.

Yelp
Always fresh always good. I frequent Scratch for lunch. Everything is made from "Scratch" and you can taste the love in your food. I recommend the chicken salad. Either in sammich or on top of any salad. If you have never been, look for an older quant home off San Pedro. The dining area is small inside. The awesome desserts make up for that!

Heather M.

Yelp
A neighborhood favorite, I wouldn't necessarily make the drive to Scratch. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is okay, but the desserts are the stars of the meal. Fresh sandwich options make up the majority of the menu, but there isn't anything outstanding or unique. We had the ham and brie sandwich, and the toasted pimento cheese sandwich... both were good, but nothing you couldn't get at the likes of Bakery Loraine or WD Deli. The indoor dining space is small, and the outdoor area could use some TLC as the furniture has seen better days. If you're in the area, certainly give Scratch a try, but don't go out of your way. Cheers!

Melanie G.

Yelp
Consistently delicious food...I LOVE everything here. Efficient, knowledgeable and friendly staff Ambiance is amazing! This place is adorable

User 9.

Yelp
Nice lil shop. Limited menu, portions a little small but good quality. I hate yelps character limit

Viki H.

Yelp
Wow what a bakery! Great location, too! Beautiful tiny shop, with a gorgeous little patio for outdoor seating (there are a couple inside tables as well). I didn't try any of the savory treats but my aunt did (she had a quiche) and said it was delish. But the sweets... holy smokes! We bought a bunch and shared them... we had a pecan bar, apricot bar, giant brownie, and a coffee cake thing. All of them were so so tasty. We picked a brownie with nuts and it was LOADED with nuts we loved it! The pecan bar and apricot bar had the perfect ratio of crust to topping and both were perfect. The crust wasn't too dry or crumbly and most important, it wasn't bland!! It was moist, flavored well and complimented the topping very very well. The pecan and apricot (filling? Topping? Idk) was delicious!! It wasn't too thin or sparse. Oh also, the service. The man working the counter was patient with my questions and order and was very helpful and quick with everything. There were several guests that came in before and after me and he did a nice job the whole time I was there. Thanks again!

Cynthia T.

Yelp
Three words: Fresh. Mozzarella. Sandwich. COVID-19 is doing its best to keep me off the streets and out of my favorite spots like Scratch Kitchen. Joke's on the virus, Scratch Kitchen delivers! Neener neener neener! During the week I adhere to a strict no dairy, no gluten, and no extra sugar diet and I broke it all with one meal from Scratch and I have zero regrets. (lies, lactose intolerance means I have at least 1 regret)--but I digress. The fresh mozzarella sandwich is SO good and SO filling. The bread is perfectly toasted and even a touch sweetened. The mozz, tomato, and basil combination can't be beat. I felt like I was eating in the restaurant and not sad and lonely at my TV tray.

Sandra S.

Yelp
Was looking for a light brunch and decided to check them out. I was hoping they had the flourless chocolate cake because DROOL for a gluten allergy. They did not have much in the case so I settled for a Chicken Salad Sandwich without the bread. It was great. I was just let down. Maybe next time I will call ahead to see if it's worth the trip again. The service was great and with a smile. Nice little spot if you're near San Antonio College and want to try something new.

Susan T.

Yelp
Nice man at the counter taking orders and managing the place today. Too rustic for my taste. Not really a kitchen more like a hot plate. They really need to remodel this place. Great potential but not a place to eat in at.

Sharon W.

Yelp
With an unassuming exterior, I actually drove past without knowing. They do have their own parking lot and street parking is available. A quaint interior where you can dine in if you so choose. Of course you can grab and go but I opted to sit for a spell and enjoy my purchase. Sadly, they were out of smoked salmon during my visit but the employees reassured me that I'd enjoy the breakfast sandwich that many people order. At the time of my visit there was a Yelp check in offer for a free coffee. I don't drink coffee and she allowed me to get tea instead. As with any offer, they can change with no notice so don't go in there being a bully over a cup of joe. I did enjoy my breakfast sandwich and the peacefulness that the dining area offered. Very nice people working there and you can tell that some effort goes into making sure they care about their products, establishment and patrons. If in the area, I would frequent again.
