Your Game Day Guide to Dallas | Eater

"A North Dallas pub favorite and hangout for North Dakota State Bison fans and alums, known for inspired pub grub and a creative cocktail menu. The bar leans playful with drinks like the Middleton Finger (Jameson Caskmates, ginger ale, lime, and bitters) and offers a welcoming spot for northerners seeking good food and televised games." - Vox Creative

Been coming here for years with a big group, and it use to be great, however the last few times I have been here the service has literally gone to zero. We waited 30 minutes for someone to serve us? Absolutely crazy. A group of 12 and no one wants to take our order or anything? If I was the owner I would be furious. This is the second time this has happened? Why even have the doors open? Oh and no food is available until “our cook comes in”. I asked when that would be and I got the answer “I don’t know”. We left. A customer outside told us as we left that “scruffy duffles opens when they want and serves you when they feel like it”. Pretty accurate.

We had a great gime. We went in at a slow time and mainly had appetizers. The food was good. I liked the old menu a little better. Our server did a great job and was attentive. I love their covered patio.

We were in town for a conference staying at a hotel nearby. The staff were friendly, drinks cold, and good food. The atmosphere of the bar is really neat also, decorated very nicely. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.

The karaoke DJ, Shoji, is friggen phenomenal and you should absolutely seek him out if you're ever in the mood for karaoke whenever he's playing at. Unrelated point: The service at this specific place by the establishment, however, has been a bit lackluster lately. Absolutely unqualified bartenders, with usually one decent one on the clock, but you can't choose who makes your drink because the bad ones swarm like flies to block you from doing that. Tonight was the worst though. A fingertip width of alcohol in a long island? That was an obvious test after the two drinks we were given prior, and this was just the twisting of the knife. I hope the shape up a bit, otherwise my friend will be going here alone from the following time on. Update to reply: Lie all you want, but there were 5 liquors poured and she was going for the filler nozzle when I stopped. Feel free to check the cameras. Irrelevant issue though, I won't be back. Extreme disservice doesn't merit any patrons. Regardless, people will either frequent you less after getting the same treatment, or you'll fix your problems to prove things wrong, and either outcome is fine by me.

Google
Amazing service with great decorations and vibes. I am quite disappointed in how little sugar their $12 funnel fries had. I will not be getting them again. $4 for whiskey on the rocks was nice though!

Google
I had a very disappointing and frustrating experience here. I ordered a vodka soda at the bar, but what I received was clearly just soda water—no vodka whatsoever. When I politely questioned it, the bartender on duty was immediately argumentative and dismissive rather than offering to make it right. My bill was $7.32, and I deliberately left a $0 tip because I wasn’t served the drink I paid for. I even took a photo of the signed receipt for my records. However, when the charge was processed, I noticed I was billed $14.32—double what I actually authorized. Not only was I served a non-alcoholic drink and treated rudely, I was also overcharged without my consent. That’s theft, plain and simple. I’ve submitted a dispute with my bank and will not be returning. If you visit here, I would strongly recommend watching your charges—I’m not the only one this bartender has stolen from.

I’m a regular at Scruffy’s and usually have a great time and get great service. Tonight I was waited on by one of their brand new servers - Alli. Alli was not only a professional and attentive server, she fixed multiple issues I was having with my iPhone 📱. I told her if the bar gig didn’t work out, she could always get a job at the Apple Store behind the Genius Bar!

Google
This place use to be great but in the past few years has declined in service and vibes. Recent DJ's and recent bartenders are very average. There are much better bars with better service and music close by.

Yelp
Wednesday night karaoke with Shoji! 9pm to 1am. There are a ton of great singers at this location. Most of the patrons are between 22 and 30. On Wednesday night the place is packed. If you wanna chair, you probably ought to get there a little early.

Yelp
I went here with a group last night. The food was bad, the service was slow, and the music was far too loud. My "Philly cheesesteak" had about 3 ounces of meat. The "half order" order of wings was 4 wings, and the "full order" was 6 wings. Some people in my group got cold food that was supposed to be hot. The drink selection wasn't great, the wine was terrible, and we had several beers show up in chipped pint glasses. To top it all off, the music was mostly bad-quality covers. I hope the owners get things sorted out, but I won't be back to find out.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was slow (but friendly). Food selection is limited, and the food was not good. I ordered a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it had a spicy BBQ sauce on it, not Nashville hot sauce. We had a large group and 1 person got his food after everyone else was finished. Stools were dirty. Legacy West should have a higher level of sports bar. This is not it.

Yelp
Sometimes you get smiled on. My husband bought a Groupon and neglected to notice that the emphasis was on the place being a bar not a restaurant and we no longer drink. So with some trepidation, we traveled up to Legacy and the Tollway and found a pleasant surprise in Scruffy Duffies. With an actual somewhat scruffy brick, board, wrought iron and sports bar/pub atmosphere, the main room is loud and cavernous with multiple jumbo screens and a long bar across one end. There's a small pool room separate from the main room and then, through another door, is the patio. Now the patio is unusual in that it's not actually outdoors; the parking garage is above it. However, wrought iron doors open onto the sidewalk, NOLA style, and there are misters and fans and built in heaters and a fireplace for the colder months. It's a terrific design and no one but us was interested in being out there. It was perfect; but it was a Tuesday, so I wouldn't expect that on a weekend, anytime. The food was also surprisingly good. We split two sandwiches: a club sandwich that was the perfect bite with thick bacon and a pesto aioli and a savory Philly Cheese Steak on a wonderfully fresh and soft hoagie roll. They came with your choice of fries or tots. We tried both and they were terrific - soft inside and crunchy outside. Both sandwiches were also modestly priced. My spouse wanted to try the crispy chicken wings and of the 4 available versions, he opted for Cajun. The 10 wings for $13.00 came with giant carrot and celery sticks with ranch dressing. The wings were perfectly cooked and crispy; but the seasoning, although flavorful, didn't strike me as Cajun and was simply too salty. It lacked any heat or paprika. They were good with the ranch dressing, though. A special mention about our server, Rian. She made an effort to meet us at the door, seat us out on the patio and then had to continue to attend to only us out there while keeping tabs on everyone else inside. She was exceptionally busy; but always kept an eye on us. I never saw anyone else. She had a lovely personality, as well. We liked Scruffy Duffies. Parking was easy - across the street or in the garage. It's a comfy place to eat, drink and watch sports. I noticed they have a live DJ on Friday and Saturdays and all kind of specials through the week. We had a good time and would return.

Yelp
For sure for sure Scruffy Duffies is my jam. I was visiting the area with my Cousins and they are relatively new to the area and were actively in search for their new local. We stumbled across Scruffy Duffies and BAM, new local bar achieved. The vibe is on point, there is a pool table (which we made a return visit for) the staff are awesome and chill. And the food? The food is.... good. Like I was surprised lol, the food is GOOD! This was like... a total bonus.

Yelp
Cool place to drink but restroom smells like the reptile section of PetSmart. I need 85 characters now so hopefully this covered lol

Yelp
This is one of two Notre Dame bars in Dallas. You would think they would appreciate and be prepared for the fans. Not at all. One person working the entire bar, no burgers, no pretzel, no hot dog (roughly half the menu) available. Suffice to say--we won't be back.

Yelp
This is one place I wished I had payed attention to there star rating prior to dining here. :( What I did like was the pub style environment. A lot of wood or shall I say wood looking panels and tables. They also have a very nice patio and plenty of TVs to watch any game to your pleasure. What I could pass on is the food I ordered chicken strips and cheese fries. These cheese fries ain't snuffers. The menu makes them sound good but they are really dry and not cheesy. Personally I wouldn't come for food. Come grab a beer n enjoy a game.

Yelp
This is a very good bar to hang out, specially if you live in the legacy area. No cover, drinks prices are reasonable, food is good, I have never had a problem with my check, and bartenders have always been great. Now the action at this place starts around 10pm, if you come early, it may look like another irish pub, with some patrons here and there, and average noise. The indoors area is more noisy, crowded, Live DJ, the patio is more relaxed, less crowded, you still get to enjoy the DJ selection, and also there is a bar inside and outside. Inside bar is more commercial beers with a huge selection, outside bar is more IPAs and craft beer.

Yelp
Their wine sucked. Our friend called them out on it and their security gave them a warning... really??
google avatar

Pam C.

Yelp
Popped in here for a quick bite and had a very tasty quesadilla and fries. The quesadilla was full of flavorful and tender chicken. The fries were skinny, hot and seasoned. Service was excellent.
google avatar

Annia A.

Yelp
Typical dive bar with bar food. Has an ample patio outside and a parking lot in front. Order the pretzel!

Kayla M.

Yelp
Didn't eat here but went out for the night and got some drinks! Would say they are reasonably priced. Fun place with a DJ at night. Also has some games like pool. Plenty of TVs for watching sports

Yelp
We had our alumni happy hour. I had worked with Chelsea to arrange the event and she was a pleasure to work with. We had the entire patio portion to ourselves (~30 folks), various beer on tap and good quality food (see pics). Parking is super easy with this place and its easily accessible to DNT. Chelsea and other waitresses looked after us really well. If there is another chance to host happy hour, I will definitely consider this place!

Yelp
This is the third time I've been asked if "I'm ok" while waiting for a friend who was talking to a girl. Then got checked by the bathroom for not being over a "line" and then after the same security got mad at me for not "dapping" him up. Ridiculous and they pick and choose. I was there the Friday prior and acted the exact same; and left with a girl, and nothing said. But each time after they consistently ask if I'm ok but don't kick me out, because I wasn't acting rude. This is the worst place in shops. Security is a joke. Place is awful. I'll continue to write bad reviews daily. Go anywhere else other than this place. They over-serve ppl who are young like 21-25 but i sit and wait for a friend to try and talk to a girl he met. Place is racist; awful service; and disgusting. I'll continue to write a bad review daily. Fuck off.
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot located in shops of legacy! It's off to the side a little bit so you are not in the middle of all the madness going on at the shops. Plenty of open seating, a big screen as well as other TVs at the bar. There is another part to the bar almost separate where you can have large parties for special events or just any regular time. Daily specials and happy hour deals! Hunter was our bartender and did a wonderful job! He was very helpful on what to choose off the menu since we had never been there before. Tried the pizza fries and the Philly cheesesteak eggrolls. Both were delicious. It was very cold out so it was awesome to see they had a fireplace inside by the pool table. Afterwards you can go check out the beautifully lit Christmas tree around the water.

Yelp
Brook & Elyssa we're spectacular tonight. It was slow when we walked in and they were instantly bomb rushed by large party... the impeccable customer service that was applied was unparalleled to the surrounding bars. Peak times two women multitasking at its finest.. BRAVO ZULU

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere and good drinks. The veggie burger is the best one that I had ate already. I recommend the loaded fries too

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. Atmosphere - 4/5 The night had a mixed crowd base with the DJ playing music. The crowd age range I would say is around younger - mid 20s. The music was good and the DJ did take requests. The place has 2 areas: the main area with the dj and a large space with tables and the secondary area that has more of a outdoorsy feel. Staff - 3/5 They were a little slow, but that is typical when you are at a place that has alot of people there at night. Food - 3/5 I didn't eat that saturday night, but I have had their food from before. Nothing out of the ordinary here, so if you are hungry and craving bar food, can't go wrong with any of their items. Overall, if you are young and looking for a place to hang out at shops, this would be a good stop.

Yelp
This establishment is not observing COVID safety protocol. Out of all the employees we observed only one employee wearing a mask. Customers moved freely around the bar without wearing masks. We decided not to risk exposure after 5-10 minutes as there was no social distancing measures in place.

Jeff S.

Yelp
A couple standing behind me kept putting their trash and empty glasses on our table. I asked them to stop multiple times. Their friends kept apologizing for the couple and would take the garbage. The entitled wife then grabbed my drink and threw it at me. She went to the bouncer, and he come over to kick me out. The husband even came outside to apologize, but the bouncer and manager didn't care. There are definitely two classes in this country: the entitled/privileged and second-class citizens. All I wanted was to enjoy the night and celebrate the end of a terrible year; yet, I couldn't be treated with any dignity. The "cherry on top" is that I was charged for drinks that my friends and I didn't even get to drink.

Tyler F.

Yelp
Some guy came to our table and was being extremely rude to me. I'm a very peaceful person and non confrontational, but when my friend came back from the bathroom, he stuck up for me. The bouncer, Kieth, immediately kicked us out because he noticed my friend's aggressive gestures. Good on him for looking out and being aware. However, I know his job is to de-escalate, and he did a decent job, but he definitely chose to let the trouble maker stay while kicking out the pacifist. Pretty sure they charged us and automatically added gratuity. Don't go here if you want to have a good time. Terrible vibes.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Rude dirty and not friendly. They don't want your business. So please don't go here. You work too hard for your money to give it to these people.
google avatar

Sneha P.

Yelp
Fun casual pub in the legacy show area. Service is typically good. Great Guinness drafts. Good HH specials. Inside area is small but large indoor/outdoor room that can be rented as well for events.
google avatar

Rich D.

Yelp
We moved to Carrollton by Prestonwood Christian Academy and this is our go to place to watch sports. Awesome atmosphere, great service and phenomenal food! We have not had a bad meal yet.

Ifrah B.

Yelp
Used to love coming to this place but had a terrible experience with the bartender that was short and petite with long black hair . It is loud and hard to hear and she got an attitude and was extremely rude. I will not be coming back here. Completely understand the environment but no reason to be rude to someone who is simply trying to order a drink. I won't be returning because of the way she treated a customer - then continued to be rude to my friends. Terrible customer service from her.

Yelp
Very good food. Wings and pizza is great here Need more drink specials. Love living in the neighborhood .

Yelp
Oh what a night I had here at Scruffy Duffies! I started off on a date and snuck off to the other side to escape the awkwardness of online date meets lol and it worked out oh so perfectly! The drinks a great! I ended my night with the green tea shot and I fell in love. I'm ready to go back this weekend (without the awkward online dude) and dance the night away. I like that it's a chill bar but at the same time they have a DJ on the weekends! And they have bomb food! I couldn't find that fry bucket though.... Do y'all still have that? If not please bring it back so o can order it and eat it by myself...because this girl...loves...fries. Just sayin Also the service was great! Kind of to the point to where I wanted to be like HEY I'm good leave me alone! But I would never do that. Omg...maybe she kept checking on me so much bc she knew how awkward I was feeling....in that case...I applaud every single waitress that checked on me that night. Y'all are the real MVP's

Yelp
I used to love this place. Really disappointed last night. This place sucks now. Be careful on your tab and the staffs there. NEVER STEPPING MY FOOT IN THERE AGAIN. Really pissed after last night .

Marie R.

Yelp
Our group of 8 people arrived early on a Saturday evening to eat a meal prior to a large event we were working. Time was of the essence. Our table ordered 3 pizzas, a salad, and an order of chicken tenders. The salad and chicken tenders arrived in good time. But we waited, and waited, and WAITED for the pizzas--for more than an hour--before finally giving up on the last pizza, canceling it, and leaving. When we arrived at 5:23PM, we were one of two tables there. When we left, at 7:05PM, there were multiple other tables, many of which received food orders while we were still awaiting our last pizza. Atrocious. And management offered NO consideration for our experience.
google avatar

Susana C.

Yelp
Came here to watch football on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was easy to find in the lot to the left of the entrance. They had decent Sunday drink specials, a good selection of specialty beers but we chose to drink bloody mary's and martinis. Plenty of TVs around the bar to watch football. We had a great time here playing Golden Tee and we met a lot of fun and social people. It wasn't very crowded but everyone was friendly and ready to strike up a conversation. The regulars informed us that the weekends get very busy here.

David W.

Yelp
We waited for over an hour for burger and when we went to cancel our order the server told us that " we needed to be kind." It wasn't sorry for the inconvenience or let me check on the order. She made it all about how the customer wasn't meeting her expectations. Never will return.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for a late night round of drinks. This place can hold a large group and the outdoor space is nice. Music was on point as well as the wait staff. Just have your ID with u or you're not getting in.
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
There was no drink menu even when the waitress stated that it was on the we've sure she didn't even know that there was no menu. So as far as a sports bar is concerned it was less than impressive.
google avatar

Johnny M.

Yelp
Probably my most favorite bar in this area. Super chill and great staff , cheap drinks and a live band during certain night.
google avatar

Natalie M.

Yelp
Super underwhelmed with our experience there last night. We went to the Lights of Legacy event and made reservations for our big group for 7pm. We had one table for adults and one for our kids. When we sat down out in the patio, there were maybe 10 other people in the restaurant, so definitely not what we would call super busy, especially since a big event had just happened in this area. We were asked if we could go ahead and get our food order in first so we didn't overwhelm the kitchen staff. What??!! We hadn't even looked at the food yet and we're still looking over the drink menu. Also, one family was still parking so we were waiting on them to walk in. When we asked what time the kitchen closed, we were told 10 or 11. So we should be good on time, right? We informed our waitress that we would still rather get drinks first and have time to look over the menu and decide. They must not have a kids menu because we never saw one and all our kids had to order apps or main entrees, so we especially needed some extra time to decide on everything. At one point, one of our group members had to go up to the bar and grab more drinks because we hadn't seen our waitress in awhile and sat with empty drinks for a bit. The food was ok. It wasn't great. Several of the kids ordered the cheese fries and there were no chives on it (as advertised) and barely any bacon. For $10, it was a wimpy looking plate of cheese fries. I did enjoy the cheesesticks. We asked our waitress for ranch and were told we would need to wait because she was busy and needed to get more food out. Ok, but I have hot food in front of us and we're waiting on some condiments so we could start enjoying our meal too. We also had to go inside and find a condiment stand so we could have ketchup, salt, pepper, etc. we asked for water several times and got it at the end once we had paid out. The waitress was very nice. Maybe she didn't have enough support around her to help her handle the tables she had. Our bills were all right at the end, which is always nice when you have big groups. We won't be returning based on our experience was there last night. There are just too many restaurants/bars in the area to not have a great experience.
google avatar

Lin G.

Yelp
If you live by the Shops at Legacy and really don't feel like driving far then Scruffy Duffies is not a bad pick. It's the most crowded bar in the area and the music is danceable old hip hop. Don't expect much in terms of a crowd though. If uptown is a 8, then you're looking at a 3 at Scruffy's. Maybe that's why they call 'em scruffy, cause those dudes there be looking a bit scruffy. So come with attractive people because you won't be meeting any here. Ladies, use the restroom beforehand unless you want to be in line for 20 minutes waiting on 1 of 2 working stalls on a weekend night.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
Great facility and space, staff could use an upgrade. Our large party came here on a Tuesday and were pretty much the only people in the bar. Our service didn't seem happy that we were there and the service reflected it. She was short with us and not that attentive. One would think you would want some action to get some tips. That aside, the specials here are decent and their beer selection equally good. The space is new and nice and was perfect for our group. There is an outdoor area that looked nice, although on this night it was too cold to take advantage of that. This place is behind everything so one might not even know it was there.

Cydney V.

Yelp
If I could give a negative review I would, this place is terrible. We've come here several times in the passed year and never had problems but lately the bartenders try to over charge for drinks you never had. My grid got chartered for 7 vodka sodas when she only drank three. They refused to give us proof from the bar. They refused to call the cops and told us to get the f*** out. Will never come back to this place
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
I decided to give this place another try for the st Patty's block party. It seems like there's a better energy here now, and I had a great time. Maybe it's new management? Danny walked up and introduced himself to me and my friends and said he's running things now, asked us if there was anything he could do for us and legitimately seemed to care about the hospitality shown to the guests. I definitely will come back if the positive vibes keep up here. (Also great block party!)
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
I was a bit apprehensive when I found out that the party headquarters for JMU's football fans during the championship was at a bar named Scruffy Duffies, but my group really enjoyed ourselves here. The bar gave off a Lone Star feel to our group of East Coasters. We all loved the decor. We experienced both the inside bar and the outside bar. I was thrown off by having them tell me it was a "private bar" and that we all had to become members- what? So we did, who knows what they really did with my license and what i truly signed for. It was a freezing weekend and the bar was semi prepared for the crowd and weather. The overhead heaters would have been good if it was 50 degrees out but it was 20, so maybe invest in a few more for the five times a year frost that Plano occasionally gets. The menu is small but does it's job- we loved the soft pretzel, fries and pizza. Beers were priced well but the shots we ordered were pricey. Bathrooms are rustic and average with decor and cleanliness. It was fun for our giant gathering of Dukes, and I'm up in the air on if i'd come back. If I do, I'm bringing jackets to the poor servers here who clearly hadn't experienced winter before.
google avatar

Mitra B.

Yelp
If you are a middle aged divorced person trying to go home with a warm body tonight, congrats, I have found the place for you, and that place is Scruffy Duffies. If, like me, you were just a regular ol' person trying to have a drink with your friends, eh, there are better options out there. I will say that I was pleasantly surprised by the waitress who checked on us a couple times (although I really really wanted to feed her a burger and put a sweater on her, but oh well, I can't save the world). It was oddly packed it here. I asked my husband if there was anyone he would hit on if he were single (I have a weird sense of humor, what can I say) and he thoughtfully looked around before answering no. The same was true for myself. Drinks were cold and wet, so there's that.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Terrible. The atmosphere is fine, but the staff are all d-bags. The doorman was wearing a tight tshirt and weightlifting gloves (crossfit, bro!), but he took our table away because "last night was packed and he needed the space." Well of course last night was packed, it was New Year's Eve, idiot. Bartender scolded me because I ordered 4 drinks for our table, but only had two hands. I'll happily grab another person, but you don't have to yell at me, this isn't 2nd grade. I'll never return and I love Mucky, Ice House, Ringos, and other sister locations. You're welcome I dropped $80 at your bar, sorry I wanted a table. My bad. Won't happen again.

Yelp
Had 7 double crown and cokes over a 2 hour period and I am walking out more sober than I came it. Great way to spend $272 on a Saturday night. What a joke!!!
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Last week we had an employee summit and a large event at Scruffy Duffies. Everything was amazing!!! The food and drinks were served quickly and the overall service was outstanding!!!! Daniel, the manager, and the rest of the staff were awesome!!!! Many thanks!!!!
google avatar

Zachary B.

Yelp
Overall, this is a solid place to come for a drink, and hang out with friends. The music isn't too loud, and the crowd is pretty tame, at least while we were there. There was a lack of seating, and I found the actual space to be quite small. The bartenders were all pretty friendly, and they made a good drink. Price is average. One thing that was irritating was they took the bar stools away at midnight. I have been to other bars that they do this...but they are actually quite busy, compared to this bar which wasn't. There was literally no reason for them to be pulled. Overall, it's fine, but definitely not my favorite.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Place was ok. It was also dead. The server was new and very talkative, nice but didn't seem like she was trained properly. The bartender took my pizza order and then she ran out the door telling the server good luck. The bartender that took her place was not social at all. He didn't know I had ordered because I asked him to check on pizza after 30 minutes. It was definitely sitting in the window for a while. It was warm but not fresh. Hard to screw up a pizza! I would probably go back to give it second try but the establishment next door was alot of fun and service was awesome.

Frankie L.

Yelp
Used to love this place. It's a local spot we go out to.....but as of right now it sucks and I don't recommend. There's a guy working who has a CAST right now, DO NOT ORDER FROM HIM. He jips you on Alcohol. I watched him pour my drink and it maybe lasted 2 seconds? He says it was an once and a half....he didn't measure lmao. Whatever this place sucks. I don't want to spend $18 on sodas. Byeeeeee Scruffies.

Yelp
Great little bar tucked away in the Shops at Legacy. DJ was on Fire. Staff very friendly and patrons very lively. Bartenders were great.
