Sculthorpe Mill

"This striking former mill dates back to 1757. It has been lovingly restored by sisters Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton, who have created a chic dining pub with contemporary bedrooms and a riverside terrace. The experienced chef offers well-judged, flavoursome cooking, with plenty of vegetarian options." - Michelin Inspector

Fantastic location for lunch. We ate in the garden, which wasn't our booking- but the weather was nice; the staff were lovely to specially accommodate a table service for our picky musical chairs family. The food was exquisite. The menu was small but well formed. Maybe for myself too many fish options, leaving options for sharing plates or a steak. But in this world we often have too much choice. Wine selection was fab. Staff more than amazing and friendly.

Haven't been here in a while. Believe the Mill has changed ownership. Found a space on the (busy) car park. Very pleasant setting. Ordered drinks which were reasonably priced and then went through to the garden. Pleasantly surprised. Spacious and well laid out. Live band who were decent. Outside kitchen Worth a visit.

Pros|Beautiful place in idyllic location, close to the river and set in lovely grounds, with hidden seating nooks.|Boutique quirky decor, with lots of original features.|Spacious room with lovely view of the river, large bathroom with huge shower and quality local toiletries. Large, very comfortable bed with gorgeous pillows. Efficient WiFi. |Good quality, delicious food which was well cooked and presented.|Cons|Not an ideal place for anyone with poor eyesight or mobility issues. Appreciate this is an old building but single steps here and there were not marked and were hard to see in the very dim lighting.|No wardrobe in the room, just a row of hooks with hangers on the wall. Could be a problem if staying for more than a couple of nights. No TV though a radio is provided, we ended up using our phones.|The shower was extremely powerful, which for the ladies could prove quite painful, some operating instructions would have been really useful.|Whilst all the food we ate was great, it was quite a limited restaurant menu which didn’t change. We got round this by having a larger starter as a main. The bar/restaurant service was rather hit and miss, with a few obviously inexperienced staff members, although it was definitely better the second evening. The restaurant was quite hot and on the first night the music was loud and ill-suited, another guest must have asked for it to be turned down before we got a chance.|The one piece of advice - get a room away from the front of the building. As it was hot we had to have the window open the whole of our stay. Unfortunately overflowing bins were awaiting collection not far away, and we got a fair few flies in our room, luckily they were emptied Tuesday afternoon and moved away. We were also woken by a delivery on the first morning at 6.50am. Unfortunately the second morning the delivery was at 6.00am, followed by the thudding of music coming from the staff room nearby at 6.30. Gave up trying to get back to sleep when loud voices outside started at 6.45!||Would we return? Yes, if we could get a room away from the front of the building and maybe eat elsewhere after the first night.|We feel this place could be really great with a few tweaks.

Lovely, spacious room with beautiful double-sided views of the river and fields. Peaceful, hidden location. However, the room was quite standard for the high price, with minimal toiletries provided. We had to book two nights just to stay one due to limited availability. Breakfast was delicious. Nice stay overall, but not great value for money.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Very busy Mother’s Day but our visit was memorable. From the moment we arrived we enjoyed every minute. A warm welcome, staff working very hard but still attentive and pleasant. The food was fabulous, we particularly enjoyed the sharing Lamb and Chicken. A delightful wine menu. Our new favourite location. Cannot wait to visit again. An idyllic location.

We called the Scunthorpe Mill for a last minute booking which they were able to help us with, managing an upgrade to the restaurant due to a cancellation. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant which is fantastic. The food was a great variety and excellently cooked. It was such a delight to find a pub/restaurant that doesn’t sell the bog standard food of so many other pubs. Beautiful setting next to the river, great decor and very welcoming. A must visit for any meal of the day.

Fantastic location, with a beautiful beer garden right next to the river. Food was tasty but the salad served with my steak was 4 little gem leaves with ceaser sauce on. The service on our visit was pretty poor. The bar is small and not great if busy and it took 30 mins to get 2 teas and 2 coffees after our lunch. They didn't charge us for the teas and coffee however as the place wasn't busy I still can't figure out why it took so long.

Relaxing lunch in the sun by the river, the setting is beautiful! Friendly efficient staff and the food top notch. Everything so fresh, vibrant and perfectly cooked, also big thumbs up for the refreshing cocktails. Not overpriced considering how good everything was and glad to see that service charge hadn't been automatically charged. Wonderful lunch, thank you!

Yelp
What a disappointment!!! Over the last decade or so my family has used Sculthorpe Mill for casual meals and big parties... lovely setting, lovely food, lovely service!! Alas no more... new ownership After waiting over 50 minutes for our food to come, my brother's medium steak turned out to be burnt shoe leather!!!he called the waitress over and asked for a medium steak! Nothing arrived and my mother and I had finished our meal so he just told the waitress to forget his order and we would just get the bill and go!! Enter angry blond woman who tried everything to get him to stay and eat his meal... argued with us over how long we had been waiting!!! Her attitude was very aggressive so I asked her to leave and please stop talking at us!! She accused me of shouting( I wasn't) and informed the room exactly how rude I was! We went to pay at the bar... no mention of food fiasco... no sorry for your meal etc... just give us this much and good bye!!!! This is not the first negative review I've read and heard since the new owners took over! Completely ruined an always pleasant place to eat!
