The entire shoreline of this beach is filled with sand piranhas!! You can spot them where the waves wash over the sand; at first, they look like it's just coarse sand (~4 mm) being washed in/out, but if you look closer, you'll see that they move underneath the sand as the water retreats. I was very glad I wasn't going to swim in the water anyway, and just walked along the shore.
The beach itself is nice; it's quiet, clean, it has bathrooms, showers, and there is a lot of parking for its size. But because of its proximity to NYC/LI/The Hudson River, the water has a yellow/greenish foam forming as the waves break. So, definitely don't go into the water if you have any cuts or open wounds...
