I am afraid we have to agree with the three-stars and below ratings. The quality of the food is a 4-star, the service overall is a 1 or 2-star. Definitely some issues with staff training and management. Given the history of other reviews on service, it does not appear that the management is responsive to such feedback.
We arrived past lunch peak at 2 pm on a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant is not full (about 1/2 of the seating outside and very empty inside).
We were a large party (9) and had a bill of $560 (including tip), so we fully sampled the food. We wanted to try it out because this place is connected with the Firehouse Performance Arts Theater next door that we like.
First the positives: the raw seafood is of high quality - we tried 2 dozen oysters, fresh clams, shrimp, and lobsters. All tasted very fresh, as a place by this name and at this location should be. Also, food portions are large (while expensive).
The services are seriously missing: Slow and poorly timed cooking (again, during a time when the restaurant is not very busy). We ordered 4 different large appetizers, thinking that it would give enough time for entrees to come. We have in fact finished all of our appetizers (including a whole fisherman's platter) and had to sit and wait awkwardly for at least 10-15 minutes before any hot entree came.
Worse yet, there is no instinct whatsoever in the servers who did bring the entrees to remove any completely eaten dishes. The table, even with 10 seats, had no space left for entrees. Three different servers came - and all tried to move things around to squeeze the new entrees onto the table, rather than remove used plates. When we politely asked, "Could we clear some of these please?" At least one or two of the servers looked puzzled and surprised - like this was not part of their training. And in fact, we had to ask the servers to remove items one by one, again and again. That was awkward.
As far as I could remember, no one ever came for refills. Again, we are a large party and we ordered a lot of food.
Lastly, when we were seated, we asked if there's any possibility to be seated outside (street), or deck (bay), or at least window (inside). We were told that there would be 30+ minute wait or that there's no way to combine the tables. Again, the whole time we dined, the place (including outdoor seating) are about 1/2 full. Did not understand why that is - so we ended up eating in a small side room by the bar, with no window or view whatsoever, defeating the ambiance and draw of eating at a "sea level" anything.
Again, in total, for a $560 bill, the food was fine, but everything else is below standard (never mind expectation). Very unlikely to return, and would not recommend. We did leave a full tip because some of us worked in the service industry and felt that when multiple servers and staff seem to struggle with the basics, it's usually not entirely their fault.
