Everything about our visit was refreshing and absolutely amazing. The food was super tasty — full of flavor and made just right. The atmosphere was perfect, and we felt so comfortable and welcomed from the moment we walked in. Huge shoutout to our server, Taylor — funny, personable, and such a joy to have at our table. They really made our first experience unforgettable. We’re definitely coming back — we love it here already!

Went here for our 5th anniversary last week and we loved it! Our server was so friendly and recommended the clams which were a special for the day and the seafood pie and both were phenomenal. For the price, (which was a little more) it was REALLY quality! We're from California and the prices would have been the same but the amount of seafood would have been much much less! The seafood pie was packed full of various kinds of seafood and had some really nice pieces of lobster including two lobster claws! I've been craving some good fried seafood so I got a mix of shrimp and fish with the onion rings and fries. Let the picture speak for itself! Delicious and exactly what I was craving! Definitely recommend you give it a try but be ready for a little wait for a seat if you don't call ahead for a reservation!

We’ve been here twice now and both times the food was excellent. The first time we ate a meal here was for an early dinner on a quiet day during the week. It was super nice outside and we asked to sit out back. They have two outdoor seating areas, one out front and one in the back overlooking the water. The view was lovely. The place wasn’t packed and we didn’t have to wait for anything. Anyway, this place has a massive menu. Besides the regular menu, they have a whole specials menu each day. (See pics for menu.) We ordered fried calamari Italian style and they were so fresh and delicious. You get used to places over frying calamari, so that was a huge winner. For the main course, I ordered the specials blackberry bbq sauce baby back ribs. They were so good! They served them with yucca fries, which I love. I wish it was a regular menu item. My husband had the haddock with crab cake crust on potatoes. It was delicious. I loved it so much, the next time we visited, that’s what I ordered. During our first visit, we kept seeing these beautiful sushi dishes delivered to other tables, so we got some of that the next visit. It was good too. My kids had the chicken skewers that came with an island sauce and the baked scallops. The chicken was tasty and not overcooked. And the scallops were baked perfectly and still tender. Overall, we were really happy with all the dishes served to us both times. The people that work here are all super nice, and the service was excellent both visits. Prices are on the higher side and portions aren’t super large. Be sure to ask for market prices if that’s something you’re concerned about. The restaurant is noisy. I don’t know why that is, but even without being packed, it was. The place is kid friendly and they do have a menu specifically tailored to them. We parked in the lot next door and walked behind the restaurant. They charge during the day, but it’s not much. Otherwise you can find parking on the street if it’s not a busy day. I see there are a few mixed reviews on here, but I would confidently suggest you visit this place and try them out for yourself. (If the restaurant reads this, please consider that blackberry baby back bbq ribs special permanently 🤞🏻 It was soooo good.)

First time personally ordering from here. Both my partner and friend had come here not too long ago. I ordered a fisherman platter, but what I thought was a “fisherman platter” was a joke. I paid $40+ for some type of “combo” that came with 3 over cooked shrimp, 1 PIECE OF FISH, and whole 1/2 servings of fries and onion ring. I waited for a drink , one Bloody Mary, waited 15 min for someone to even bring a menu. I have never seen such a messy “top quality” restaurant. The employees could not even tell me what is in a specific dish. The manager had to come sort out multiple issues. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone trying to enjoy some fresh seafood. Instead, the manager offered “to get some scallops”, to eat with a cold plate of fries and 3 shrimp and 1 piece of fish? Soggy fries and onion rings, disgusting joke. I couldn’t even get back the right change. In addition, I just called the store, and they told me in fact it comes with fish, shrimp, scallops, etc. This all happened in a matter of 1 hour, what a damn joke. Rip off of money, terrible customer service and incompetent employees. What’s worst is, it’s father day, and instead of a nice dinner I got some terrible customer service. I hope this over priced place, can do better. Worst seafood place I personally have gone to here in newbury port.

This is always a favorite date night spot for me! I have never been a fish person, and I branched out and loved their oysters as well as their buffalo calamari. It changed my opinion and opened my eyes to these items. They are always so creative with sauces, and flavors, which is especially seen in pizzas. The service is always nice as they constantly check on you. In the summer the outdoor patio is a plus!

My first time at the Sea Level Oyster Bar in Newburyport was not an enjoyable experience on a Saturday date night recently. It didn't start well with the drinks and noisy atmosphere. Our server, Jennifer, took our orders for drinks, and we asked for a ginger beer for my partner and a dry vodka martini for myself. I am a bit particular about a martini and specifically requested that it be very dry, not dirty, stirred, not shaken. What I got was a dirty martini with not even a garnish. It was cloudy, with a slight yellow tinge, no garnish, nothing. My partner was not happy with his ginger beer and Jen said she would get him something else. I mentioned I wasn't satisfied with the martini, and she asked if it tasted ok, and I said it didn't taste bad but was dirty. She blew it off and walked away, bringing me some olives. We ordered the roasted haddock with mashed potatoes and the crabmeat-stuffed sole (mine). The roasted haddock was very good and my partner was happy. My sole on the other hand looked very impressive when it came, with the fish and sauteed spinach sitting on top of three whole-boiled potatoes. Three whole-boiled potatoes with nothing on them, seriously? When I brought this up to Jen, she said "Want me to bring you some butter?" which she did. It was a culinary flop. Had I read the menu in more detail at the time, I would have seen that the potatoes were supposed to be "smashed" and not whole. That may have been my mistake, but the server should have picked up on that and at least offered to take my plate back, which she didn't. Unfortunately, this will be our last visit to Sea Level Oyster Bar in Newburyport.

Visited off season by recommendation from local friends for seafood. I tried my first lobster roll here - it was amazing!!! Juicy lobster meat in butter packed into a brioche. Wow, just wow. We also tried fried jumbo shrimps in a batter and fried oysters. Everything waz fresh and juicy. Nice and fast service. Definitely recommended

The decor is a fun vibe that was relaxing but upscale as well. Fiddle Hands Beer and Guinness were to start. They were followed up by fried calamari, little neck clams, and fried oysters. They were all fantastic. My husband had the steak tips and I had the baked haddock. Service was quick and efficient. You could tell they were super busy but it looked like a well oiled machine. Food was absolutely fantastic. My only complaint is that I couldn’t go back again before leaving vacation.

Yelp
Hey you hii really good food how are you good afternoon guys doing today please send me pictures of food

Yelp
Lively, fun, trendy, delicious food, and near the water. Excellent service, great drinks, and super delicious seafood. We came here for New Year's Eve dinner and it was absolutely wonderful. One of the specials was a beverage called Midnight. Dessert in a glass! So yummy! We ate the seafood tower, which was so fresh and delicious, and the beet pistachio salad with green beans. So good! Come on in! The view is great and the food is even better.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor seating area, servers are kind and efficient and they're a very dog friendly place to grab a bite and enjoy the view. That being said, it was $33 for seven tiny scallops with cold french fries. The salmon was exceptionally bland. The risotto was flavorless. Probably a fine place for wine and oysters but I won't come here again, the meals were absolutely subpar.

Yelp
Overall a disappointing experience here. Starting off with the service, the waitstaff that tended to us was trying her best even though it wasn't her table. Our actual waitress never came by. The restaurant is fairly large and wasn't too busy when we visited on Saturday 8pm. We asked to be seated in the back outdoor area which had a great view of the water. We were sat at a table in the back corner which should've raised some flags since that basically meant we were out of sight and out of mind. No one came by to check on us to take our order or get us water. One waitress did notice us and got our drink order in which took a little long. Once she came back, she took our order too. When the food arrived, we finally got utensils and a napkin. And that was the last time we see any waitstaff. For food, overall was disappointing for the price. The oysters were really the worst. We got half a dozen oysters in a variety. 2/3 we're fine but the last one (I forget the name) was just FULL of sand/mud which ruined the rest of the meal for me. Horrible experience to have a mouthful of grit and not have any water or napkins (even though we asked). Calamari was standard- not as crispy as I would like but fine. Next was the salmon risotto which was also fine- lacked a bit of flavor. Drinks were fine- wine was fine and the mocktail could use some more work as it tasted watery. Wouldn't really come back here unless there are no other options since it was pricey for the quality of food. The only reason why it has 2 stars is the convenience of location and some of the food is edible.

Yelp
Came here last night with my new puppy. Wanted to get her used to the patio life because I always love a good summer patio with my dog. Staff were very sweet and came to refill her water bowl multiple times as she dumped it on herself. I got the Atlantic Salmon with a blueberry sauce. I wasn't sure how salmon and blueberries were going to go together but it was delicious!! I will be dreaming of that salmon. We also ordered nachos for the table that were huge and filling. All in all was a fantastic day hanging out by the water. Thank you sea level we will be back!

Yelp
On 2/1/25, we went to Sea Level Oyster Bar in Newportport, MA for an early dinner. The food was excellent. However, our server, Jennifer T. was rude and virtualy unresponsive. Consequently, we left her a 15% tip. Well, somehow we were charged more than what we authorized for payment which equated to a 25% tip. I called Sea Level twice with no results and finally had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. If you visit Sea Level, stay away from waitress Jennifer T.

Yelp
We went here for a late lunch and sat outside on the deck in the shade. It was lovely. Ordered a beautiful beet salad and just talked with my friends. I love the decor here as well. They do have another location in Salem as well. I thought the service was very good and that made me happy. The menu is pretty diverse so you can find something you like even if you don't like fish!

Danielle V.

Yelp
For being an "oyster bar" I wasn't that impressed with the oysters or the selection. They didn't have them listed, the waitress didn't know what they were and then when they brought them out they didn't even tell us which ones were which cause we ordered four of each kind. For $45 dollars I expected more. We did have a cocktail and it was really great. The inside is pretty, and they have big garage doors that they open up and they have multiple outside locations. It was a really busy day but they didn't bring us silverware for a while, we didn't have a wine menu and they forgot the things for the oysters. Overall it was just okay.

Kelly D.

Yelp
Typically I really enjoy coming here for some good quality seafood. I have come here many times and the food has been amazing. However I came in for a late Valentine's Day date with my significant other and everything about it was very underwhelming from the previous times I have visited. The menu had some slight changes which was disappointing as I usually always get baked scallops and there wasn't a single scallop dish on the menu besides sushi. Maybe it's a seasonal menu. I decided to start with the clam chowder which is always good. I almost choked on a clam due to how dry and chewy they were. I could barely finish the chowder. Which never happens. For my entree I ordered the clam linguine. Again, everything else about this dish was ok but the clams again were dry and chewy. I had my husband try it and he said the same thing. He was appalled that I had actually tried to eat that instead of speaking up. He mentioned this to our waitress who said she would have them remake the meal. At this point I've got the ick and don't even want the meal. I wish they would have just comped my meal instead. It was just very underwhelming and disappointing and not what I expected for a 26 dollar plate of pasta. Service was great and that I can't complain about. Maybe this place is only good in the summer.

Yelp
We started in Salem, MA but it was impossible to find a parking spot so we headed North to Newburyport, it's one of our fun spots to go. We have walked by this place for years and finally decided to stop in and give it a try. We are glad we did, great staff, we came in around 3-3:30 so we went right to the bar. Bartender was very attentive and got 'e a cold draft and my wife a very delicious cocktail. We decided to have an app and some sushi. Sushi is amazing and great quality. We got a chicken app with some Thai sauce, it was over cooked and dry. Can't win them all but we will be back for dinner to try and see if we get that fifth star!

Yelp
We ordered Watermelon Margaritas to begin with - made perfectly! The nachos that we ordered for an appetizer were probably the best I've ever had! The chips were crispy with a tweak of salt, cheese, olives, corn, jalapeño peppers, lots of other little goodies and cups of condiments - just yummy! They give you enough that this could have been an entree! We ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp quesadilla, and a MT Fuji Maki Sushi roll. Both entrees were delicious! Our waitress, Emma U (or V), was outstanding! She was cheerful, friendly, and made us feel welcome! Definitely a return visit in the future!

Allie G.

Yelp
This review is just for drinks and oysters, but I really enjoyed Sea Level! We stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon and were able to get seated on the patio right away, as a party of 3. The ambiance on the patio was delightful, and I highly recommend sitting outside if you can - plenty of seating, whether you want sun or shade. For drinks, I ordered a White Peach Basil Mule, which was absolutely phenomenal - a little lighter on the ginger so you can really taste the peach, and so refreshing. My friends both got the Cucumber Cooler and liked it a lot. We also ordered two dozen oysters to share and those were delicious and fresh. Worth trying a variety! Overall, we would definitely return.

David M.

Yelp
Miles the manager is very disrespectful, went there to enjoy my meal like I have in the past. MILES WAS RUDE, RUINED MY MEAL.

Nicole S.

Yelp
We enjoyed this so much! Thanks to Sea Level Newburyport for checking all the boxes on our weekend bucket list! Oysters, by the water, fried seafood and craft beer! Everything was so delicious. We will be back!

Katie L.

Yelp
The food is so disappointing. It's really not worth coming if quality and taste of food is the most important part of your meal. I did appreciate that they had a decent mocktail list. But I really can't get over having just spent $96 on the most basic, not great lunch. We had calamari as an app, fish and chips (which looked pretty pathetic), and the fish of the day tacos. Those were laughably bad, and the amount of fish in each taco actually made us laugh. I was so hesitant to go here, and now it's confirmed that I'll never choose to spend my money here again.

Molly S.

Yelp
Food: grilled chicken was amazing flavorful it was just really good. However, I got it with chips. I'm not a huge chip person to even begin with but when my aunt and my mom tasted them, they really liked them so coming from a person who liked chips they were pretty good. Clam chowder was well liked by my aunt however, the bread that was given to us in the beginning had mixed opinions. I personally loved it. It was topped off with the cheese, but the people in my party thought that it tasted refrigerated... Not sure what they meant by that. Service: service was amazing. Our waiter was very friendly. Got us whatever we needed. Ambience : when we went, it was not crowded at all, and very quiet. Seeming is great coastal really makes you feel like you're on the water which you are. There's also outdoor dining, but we sat inside because it wasn't overcast day. One thing to note is the restaurant does not have its own bathroom, you have to go to the one next door however the buildings are connected. Bathrooms were not in the best condition but spacious. Over all I would defiantly recommend.

Michael F.

Yelp
My wife, daughter, and I visited for dinner on an early Saturday evening. Luckily enough we did not need reservations. The restaurant is attached to the Firehouse Performing Arts Center. We began our meal with the Rhode Island style grilled calamari. Tasty but it had more cherry peppers than calamari. My wife ordered the crab cake sandwich and she was allowed to swap the fries for a salad. Thank you. I ordered the grilled swordfish with Caribbean jerk seasoning. It came with Old Bay potatoes and veggies. My daughter ordered the spinach salad with salmon. My swordfish was very disappointing. There was absolutely no Caribbean jerk seasoning on my fish. I have had this seasoning before. They must have forgotten to put it on. Did I send it back? NO! I don't send food back. The vegetables consisted of bland zucchini and broccoli. My wife enjoyed her crab cake sandwich and it held up well in the brioche bun. My daughter said the salad was good but the salmon had no taste. The service was OK and friendly. The prices were reasonable. There is plenty of other locations in town I will try before I come back here. There is a large deck off the back of the restaurant where you can enjoy your meal or a drink and look at the water.

George T.

Yelp
This was the best service I EVER received! The oysters were simply delectable and well worth the severe allergic reaction which hospitalized me for several days after the fact. I highly recommend the shrimp scampi.

Jules M.

Yelp
Came in on a Friday night around 815 and were told it was about a 20 minute wait. No problem. We get to the table and it was another full 20 minutes before anyone came over to the table. So much so that I went up to the bar and asked if they could send the server over. When the server finally came over and took our order it took another full 15 minutes before we even got waters. I don't know what was going on with the wait staff but there surely were not paying attention to our table at all. The food was fine, the clam chowder was almost cold but good and the nachos were meat heavy.

Andrea S.

Yelp
Food delectable , service impeccable and ambiance like a fantasy Saturday in the park. Ostrings, Hook, poke bowl, lobster roll. Mad Martha ipa, fun enticing and potent cocktails. We had a blast. They don't let us have nice things like this in the upper valley. I'm glad I sought local advice on this one. Thanks for letting us indulge! O strings crispy light salty thinly sliced expertly fried served with chipotle fresh cilantro mayo. chipotle dosent usually tickle me but this sauce complimented the fried onions in next level way. Everything was very fresh and at its peak flavor. Mmmm. Unforgettable in only the best ways. I would recommend avoiding the restrooms if at all possible.

June L.

Yelp
I am afraid we have to agree with the three-stars and below ratings. The quality of the food is a 4-star, the service overall is a 1 or 2-star. Definitely some issues with staff training and management. Given the history of other reviews on service, it does not appear that the management is responsive to such feedback. We arrived past lunch peak at 2 pm on a Thursday afternoon. The restaurant is not full (about 1/2 of the seating outside and very empty inside). We were a large party (9) and had a bill of $560 (including tip), so we fully sampled the food. We wanted to try it out because this place is connected with the Firehouse Performance Arts Theater next door that we like. First the positives: the raw seafood is of high quality - we tried 2 dozen oysters, fresh clams, shrimp, and lobsters. All tasted very fresh, as a place by this name and at this location should be. Also, food portions are large (while expensive). The services are seriously missing: Slow and poorly timed cooking (again, during a time when the restaurant is not very busy). We ordered 4 different large appetizers, thinking that it would give enough time for entrees to come. We have in fact finished all of our appetizers (including a whole fisherman's platter) and had to sit and wait awkwardly for at least 10-15 minutes before any hot entree came. Worse yet, there is no instinct whatsoever in the servers who did bring the entrees to remove any completely eaten dishes. The table, even with 10 seats, had no space left for entrees. Three different servers came - and all tried to move things around to squeeze the new entrees onto the table, rather than remove used plates. When we politely asked, "Could we clear some of these please?" At least one or two of the servers looked puzzled and surprised - like this was not part of their training. And in fact, we had to ask the servers to remove items one by one, again and again. That was awkward. As far as I could remember, no one ever came for refills. Again, we are a large party and we ordered a lot of food. Lastly, when we were seated, we asked if there's any possibility to be seated outside (street), or deck (bay), or at least window (inside). We were told that there would be 30+ minute wait or that there's no way to combine the tables. Again, the whole time we dined, the place (including outdoor seating) are about 1/2 full. Did not understand why that is - so we ended up eating in a small side room by the bar, with no window or view whatsoever, defeating the ambiance and draw of eating at a "sea level" anything. Again, in total, for a $560 bill, the food was fine, but everything else is below standard (never mind expectation). Very unlikely to return, and would not recommend. We did leave a full tip because some of us worked in the service industry and felt that when multiple servers and staff seem to struggle with the basics, it's usually not entirely their fault.

Naomi B.

Yelp
Great food, great outdoor patio. Make a reservation! Our only concern is that they now use electronics to order food and once the waitress inputs your order, you can't change it because it's already in progress in the kitchen. This happens while you are ordering, so be careful! It does expedite your order, but they should warn you. Our lunch was delicious. They have a great sushi bar that prepares excellent sushi/poke bowls, etc. The salads, soups and other cooked food is excellent and plentiful. We had a relaxing lunch and didn't feel rushed. The waitstaff was attentive in every way.

Joe M.

Yelp
We visit Sea Level 2-3 times a month. The food is good and we love the O-rings which are thin sliced onion rings. Have tried almost everything on the menu and very satisfied with the quality of the food. Here it comes...someone needs to tell the kitchen the difference between Apple Crisp and Apple Compote. If you order an Apple Crisp you are served Apple Compote. It's very good. But disappointing when you expect one dish and get another. Will be back again next week, but skipping desert.

Kathy R.

Yelp
Yesterday was my first visit to this restaurant. It didn't disappoint! The hostess seated us at the outdoor patio, as requested, which provided a lovely setting. Lots of great menu options (food and drink). I had a Caesar salad (not overdressed, which is how I like it) and one of the sushi specials -- the sushi was fantastic! Will visit again when I'm in the area.

Rob S.

Yelp
We ordered two orders of sushi one was a spicy crunchy tuna roll and the other was tuna and salmon with scallops and avocado and both were very good. We got an extra order of sushi after a waiter initially gave us the wrong order, so it was no charge. Good service and tasty sushi.

Julie B.

Yelp
Fabulous fresh seafood every time we come. From the sushi, to the oysters, to the wonderfully fresh prepared entrees. Always a great meal. Recently had a meal at another seafood up the hill a bit and regretted not sticking with this tried and true gem.

Vanessa T.

Yelp
A few things will be in this review. First the staff - top notch. The waitstaff working the front patio were so friendly. It was just me and my dog and since I couldn't bring her inside to see the hostess I gave a shout to one of them and they came and helped immediately. Upon being seated they immediately had water out for her (it was on 86F day!) and had my drink order in. I needed to use the ladies room and 2 members came over to watch my pup - no questions asked! And on delivery of my food the guys both noticed and complemented my pup. The food - I had the oysters and the catch of the day trout. Trout was probably not the right move in hindsight and I should have chosen a saltwater fish but that's okay (the halibut was already sold out). They oysters were amazing - I had two of each kind available and forgot what they were but they were amazing. The trout was okay - the mashed and greens were amazing. The patio was perfect. I needed dog friendly, there was plenty of shade and overall absolutely amazing atmosphere. I may be coming here again on my stay for sure! With a dozen oysters in my future!!!

Ashley L.

Yelp
Great sushi and drinks! Very dog friendly as well, even have a doggie menu. The Buffalo calamari was a little disappointing, not much sauce on the calamari and they weren't crispy. Also they forgot to serve it with the dipping sauce

Chelsea H.

Yelp
Had a really positive dining experience on a Saturday evening! Our server was attentive and the food was delicious. We were a little sun sick so our appetites weren't great, but we ordered the nachos, 18 oysters, 2 rounds of drinks and the banana pudding desert. If we were in the area again, we would definitely come back to try their entrees. Only negative was when I asked if there were loaded bloody marys, our server asked what that was and after I explained, he said I could order a single oyster and a single jumbo shrimp and make one myself. That's a little crass if you ask me, and being from SoCal and knowing seafood joints, most have a loaded bloody mary option!

Kristen P.

Yelp
We arrived at noon on a crowded Labor Day, we had a short wait for the deck on the water side. We had very attentive waitstaff, and the food was excellent.

Kevin K.

Yelp
Check this place out when you are in Newburyport, MA ! Great service ! Our server Emma was fantastic ....she recommended the lobster rolls and my wife and I were not disappointed! The sushi was also delicious!

Kelly C.

Yelp
Had a disappointing expierence. The food was bland, the portions were small and the prices were high. The service was fine, however, when the host first sat us, she sat us tucked in the corner of the back outside and since there were plenty of other open tables, I kindly asked if we could sit at one on the deck and she said no. Would not return

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Service was great but food and drinks were terrible. Portions were pretty small on the steak tips for the pricing. Bang bang quesadilla was bland. Chowder fries were actually the only thing saving this from 1 star. Truffle mashed was inedible.

Julia M.

Yelp
We popped in here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, we waited about 20 min for an outdoor seat on the back patio. Our server was excellent but it was a bit slow (They seemed really busy). The fish sandwich was huge and tasty, the sushi was incredible and fresh, and we tried the seasonal Lobster Caesar wrap which was also excellent. The wrap had a ton of meat for the price too! They also make homemade salt and vinegar chips which are some of the best I've had!

Nina L.

Yelp
Dined here yesterday for lunch. Food not good. I had the strawberry salad. Tough spinach, strawberries were not fresh and some starting to brown, hardly any dressing. My friend's salad not much better. Sitting on patio was nice and we had a very nice server. With so many places in dine in Newburyport, I would skip this one.

Bill M.

Yelp
Service was excellent, food was lackluster, and portions were ridiculously small, for a steep price. For instance, 9 very small shrimp in the popcorn shrimp appetizer at $17, leaves a lot to be desired. The ambience is cool, but look elsewhere if you want a meal.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Yum yum!! We loved this stop for lunch. We took a day trip out here from Boston. The oysters were really fresh. And our lunch choices were all winners. Prices very reasonable for the area! Along with the oysters, In this review is the fried cod sandwich, strawberry salad, blackened mahi tacos, and the Baja tacos. We also had creamy clam Chowder and the fish dip. Will return next time in town for sure

Sj M.

Yelp
Excellent lobster rolls. Generous portions. Very good staff. Dog friendly. Outdoor patio was great!

S P.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with a friend and sat at the bar. It stunk! First we thought it was the bartender, but it wasn't. It was the restaurant. It's not a fish odor. It's a moldy old dirty smell; as if they don't deep clean behind the bar where things get splashed and probably haven't washed the mats in ages (worked in restaurants before). If that's the case, I hesitate to think what is behind closed doors in the kitchen. The atmosphere is casual and nice, great views of the boardwalk. The service was ok. Not the best not the worst. Just usual. Fish portions were tiny and not worth the price paid at all. So many amazing options in Newburyport; go elsewhere. So disappointed.

Yelp
I was there in September 2023 visiting from Las Vegas. The group I went with wanted seafood. Because I don't follow the crowd LOL I ordered a bbq burger and it was delicious. No regrets there. Service was good. We had everything we needed or drinks replaced when needed. I would definitely go back if we visit again.

Yelp
Very attentive and helpful waitstaff. My table thoroughly enjoyed the mussel's recommendation with a particular sauce. The nachos were also a nice little starter. The vibe inside is quite nice. The rice ball that came with a sushi style tuna meal was extremely fishy. Too much so for the tuna lovers at the table. The margherite pizza looked truly incredible. I didnt eat any but wish i did because mychicken bacon sandwich was so charred that the real description is burnt to a crisp. Disappointed but I never complained because at least my fries were delicious. Points off for no Coke or Pepsi products. Haha.

Yelp
On a very cold February Saturday we popped in here for lunch. The clam chowder was outstanding! Not to thick or too thin, full of clams, potato and a touch of bacon and onion. The appetizer of Brussels sprouts was huge and delicious. The fisherman's platter of scallops. Shrimp, cod, French fries and onion rings was perfectly fried without being oily. We shared the banana cream pie in a jar dessert and it was terrific. Tables inside were separated by plenty of space for social distancing. Wear your mask until seated then remove it for eating and drinking. Service was first rate. Sea level oyster bar has a great view of the Merrimack River and is well worth finding.

Yelp
Server forgot us and what we asked for multiple times (market price) to the point where the first frozen cocktails others got were starting to separate. I had a tequila cocktail which was not good. I then got the Miami vice which was strawberry daiquiri and pina collada and fantastic. I had the special pizza which was blueberry and it was great! It was sweet with the honey but balanced with the cheeses. Everyone enjoyed their meal, which was great since two got lobsters.

Yelp
Everything staring with service to food was amazing. The presentations and flavors were on point, beautiful view.

Yelp
I have been here before. It's a fairly standard seafood restaurant menu. We decided to try the steamers which was on the Specials menu. I generally like all seafood and love fried clams and steamed mussels, so I thought we'd give it a try. Turns out we don't like steamers. And these steamers were excessively sandy. Yes, I know clams can be sandy, but there was an audible crunch between shards of shell and all the sand in every bite. They also happen to sit us in the "pit" of their back patio. We were situated in a corner spot by some landscaping and on such a sunny day they did not open the patio umbrella by our table which blocked our view of the waterfront. We opened the umbrella ourselves. I only got 5-6 insect stings. To be fair, it is in an excellent location for people watching and if you want broiled or fried seafood, the food is good and the service is generally good. Todays experience though, was a little underwhelming.

Yelp
Order the seafood. Duh. It's all done very well. The chicken and other land fare is so-so. Natch. Drinks are solid. But the best reason for being here is our waiter Gary. Top 3 customer service person EVER. Happy, friendly, attentive, humorous and helpful. And that's when the holiday lunch crowd crushed the place. Thank you Gary and thank you Sea Level!

Yelp
What a perfect spot for a relaxed Sunday lunch! The atmosphere was cozy, the service was prompt and attentive and the food was SO good. My boyfriend and I are both obsessed with scallops so of course we each got a scallop entrée. I got the seared scallops with gnocchi bacon mac & cheese, cheddar, parmesan, wild mushrooms and English peas. The sear on the scallops was perfect and the gnocchi was pillowy. The bacon was an awesome touch and the texture worked really well with the veggies. Boyfriend got the baked scallops with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, lemon chive butter and puff pastry. His favorite part was the lemon chive butter on the scallops - I'm pretty sure he dipped everything on the plate in there! For dessert we got the strawberry shortcake milkshake to split but TBH I wish I had gotten my own. The whole dish made both of us grin like children when we saw it approaching the table and the berry chip ice cream was super tasty. We live in Salem and we love Finz, so we knew this would be a win. We're frequently in Newburyport doing photography so we will absolutely, 100% be back. Thank you Sea Level Oyster Bar!

Yelp
Went there for Sunday brunch. Our server was friendly and attentive. The mimosa tray was perfect for sharing, she let us pick what juices we wanted. They had a live band playing Xmas music which made for a lovely ambience. We kept our meals simple and both got pancakes and bacon which were fluffy and delicious.

Yelp
Sea Level is below the level Went to dinner there recently and sat outside. Service was very slow and not attentive at all. We ordered a spicy mojito and a Mai Tai. My mojito was very sour, not spicy, more like a margarita with a lot of sour mix. The Mai Tai was great and very pretty due to the layering of the juices. We ordered the cheeseburger, and my friend asked for the crab cake sandwich and split an order of calamari. The calamari came out quickly, and was delicious. The crab cake was average, nothing good, nothing bad. My burger came out without cheese, no sauce, plain and not appealing. Our server had not been by since she delivered our drinks; runners brought the food out, so trying to find our server was particularly hard. Finally she came out and I caught her eye and she asked if everything was ok. I explained that there was no cheese, no sauce, and could she bring it back with the cheese and sauce, and can we have ketchup for our fries. She explained that sauce doesn't come with the burger (even though it is on the menu) but said she could get some sauce and cheese. She walked away and came back with ketchup and left again. Meanwhile, I'm sitting with a now cold, plain, dry burger and my friend is half done with her sandwich. Eventually the server came back with a slice of cheese on a plate and said here you go and started to walk away. I called her back and said that I couldn't believe she was just going to hand me a piece of cheese for my now cold burger. She seemed confused but offered to get me something else. I declined because it would take even longer than this food had taken. She took my plate (and the plate with a slice of cheese) and left, and we didn't see her for at least another 20-25 minutes. Finally she returned and asked my friend if she wanted a box for her leftovers and left again before we could ask for the check. When the server came back we asked for the check and she said that she felt badly about my order so she comp'd my drink. It was so nice and unexpected- I thanked her and waited for the check. When the check arrived we saw that yes, she did take off the drink but charged me for the burger. So now we have to wait to find her again to explain that we are not paying for the burger. I was willing to pay in full for the drink but absolutely not for the burger. I tried to explain and she said she would have to get the manager involved because she couldn't do that. The manager came over and quickly said, I've done what you want, it's now all set, handed me the bill and quickly walked away. He never asked what happened, how it could be better, etc. Unfortunately the check still had the burger charged. The drink charge was now on the bill but that was fine. At this point, I'm hungry, tired and have been there far too long for a terrible experience. I went into the restaurant, asked for the manager and he apologized profusely for forgetting to take off the burger. This was not my first bad experience at Sea Level. I went before and it was awful but it had been over a year and I thought I'd try again. I'll never go back.
