My father was in town, and my brother and his wife come to this place frequently, so my brother immediately suggested we come here for Thai food. That being said, we were in a bigger group (5 adults, 3 children, 1 infant), but we had called ahead to make a reservation, and the tables were not remotely near ready by the time we arrived. Matter of fact, they asked us about the reservation for 5 people, and we said no, 9, and we had to wait around 20 minutes just to get seated. The restaurant IS taking COVID seriously, as all the employees were masked, and people who were dining in had their temperature taken upon arrival.
A while after we were seated, and before they had a chance to leave our table, I made sure to ask for a Tom Kha Gai soup, noting that they seemed to be understaffed. They had the menus in digital format, so we scanned a QR code on the table in order to see it (I had checked beforehand since Tom Kha is my go to in Thai restaurants). We never saw anyone again to try and take our order until AFTER my soup was brought to the table. It was a little exasperating, and we tried our best to order everything immediately afterwards. Once the orders were requested - Vietnamese summer rolls and curry puffs for appetizers, beef green curry Thai hot, sweet and sour duck curry medium hot, green curry with scallops hot, panang curry mild, chicken pad thai mild, and the sweet and sour fillet of fish for mains - I started to try the soup.
I'm not going to kid you, this was one of the best Tom Kha Gai soups I have had. The chili broth was good and there was enough lemongrass aroma and flavor. The mushrooms were not too finely chopped, and neither was the chicken, which made the bites hearty. They did not put bamboo shoots in their soup, which was alright - it's not necessary but it does at a good texture element. One thing I was slightly disappointed in is that I consistently order things Thai Hot, and never get anything more than moderate heat, and this was no exception.
Curry puffs came in and they had great texture and flavor. What you would generally expect from them. Was not blown away. As for the summer rolls, I was not particularly impressed. The rice paper would break very easy as I was trying to consume it.
Main courses took a long time to come out, and everything but the sweet and sour fillet of fish came out at the same time. Beef green curry was good, but not spectacular and - again - was severely underspiced as I had asked for Thai hot. Scallops in the green curry were cooked very well and the sauce was also good. The duck was probably my favorite of the dishes, as it had great texture and a good composition of flavors, with bits of pineapple tossed around the sauce. I was not able to try the sweet and sour fish, so I have no comment on that except that the presentation with the cast iron skillet, and having the sauce poured at the moment, and having it smoke when poured, was actually really beautiful.
We were all stuffed by the end so we did not get dessert, but I think we were also tired of being there. The wait between sitting, ordering, and our things arriving was very long.
The food items were okay. Not 100% solid, but not bad either. I wouldn't make this my first pick, but I would be okay if someone asked me to go.
