The 18 Best Lobster Rolls On The East Coast & Northeast US - The Infatuation

"Mystic, Connecticut is another town on the New England coast where the lobster roll eating—at a picnic table, overlooking the water—is elite. Seaview does all the sea shack-style classics well, including fried clam, scallop, and shrimp platters, along with juicy little burgers. And of course, lobster rolls—theirs come with flaky bits of lobster and chunks of claw meat mixed with sweet mayonnaise. When you’re done, walk around the building to Twisters for a soft serve cone with sprinkles. Congrats, you just had the ideal New England sea shack dinner." - carlo mantuano, anne cruz, team infatuation

Google
We ordered the lobster roll and 3 orders of fish (flounder) and chips. The lobster roll was fabulous! The bun was lightly buttered and toasted and the lobster salad had big chunks of claw and tail meat. The fish and chips was also very good. The fries were plentiful and hot, but a bit bland. The view is beautiful a a the atmosphere is fun and family-friendly. Service was quick! We are definitely glad we stopped!

Whenever I come to Mystic, I always stop here. We’ve been coming since was a kid, and the food has never changed. They have the same menu as they did before, and for a very good reason. Their food is amazing, and has a great taste. We absolutely LOVE their clam chowder. It has a great taste and it is just perfect! My wife loved the shrimp and it has a great view of the water. Weather you go during the day or at night, you’ll have a nice view. The benches outside are perfect to sit back and enjoy your food. They have a very large menu with many things to choose from. We love stopping here, and will do it again next time we’re around!

Google
Bring your appetite when visiting Sea View and enjoy the beautiful views while having lunch! Fried whole belly clams, fries, crab cakes, fried scallops and the lobster roll were a collective favorite. Everything was so fresh and portion sizes were good. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

Google
The lobster roll was pretty good. It had good flavor but all the lettuce under the lobster made it hard to not all fall out. The shrimp tasted a bit stringy and the fries could be more seasoned. The staff was very friendly and the food came out quick. The hot dog was very good and cheap. The seating area was very nice to enjoy the view. Parking was a bit difficult but spaces open up pretty frequently

Google
The clam fritters and chowder are especially good! The setting is festive beside the river with picnic tables and red and white umbrellas. I was impressed with how fast the service was given a busy weekend crowd. I'll definally stop again before I leave Mystic.

Google
A nice roadside seafood shack. It's nothing fancy but it is good. I always get clams and I am never disappointed. The views from the outside dining is fantastic because it overlooked the water towards town and Old Mystic Seaport. There is a porta potty for public use. Don't go expecting anything fancy and you will not be let down.

Google
Got the clam strips dinner. Everything was fresh and delicious. Very fast service and very nice staff taking orders. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was a piece of clam shell in the clam strips.

Bianca Rosander

Google
Great food as always, I had the fish and chips, scallops and clam chowder. I have previously had their clam strips as well. This is my fourth time there since April and it’s always delicious. Scallop picture after I’d already eaten quite a bit.

Yelp
very small, but right to the point kinda seafood spot. the parking lot is incredibly tight so be careful. theres a handfull of picnic tables outside, but plenty of grassy area to set up shop. full views of the bay! they take cards, just order at the window and wait for them to call out your number. on a sunday afternoon in august, food took close to 30 mins. they have a full section with utencils and sauces for all your seafood needs set up under the patio. hot lobster roll was simple, but bland. could have been more buttery, maybe some salt or spice, but i think for the price, and freshness, it hit the spot. id come back while in town for sure.

Yelp
About an hour into our ride from P-town to the Jersey Shore, we realized one last seafood meal in New England was in order. After some quick phone research to find a dog friendly spot, we decided on Sea View Snack Bar in Mystic, CT (and lucky for us, it turned out to be their last day open for the season). We got a lobster roll and a clam strip roll and fries. Both were delicious and the view here was amazing. We ate on picnic tables and got a great family photo! Established in 1976, the Seaview Snack Bar is not to be missed - check them out when they reopen in 2025!

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend the fried items which most of them are such as the scallop and clams but def get the lobster roll!
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
The parking lot is tiny and a bit of a hot mess, but otherwise this spot is a gem. Literally one of the best lobster rolls I've ever had and I've eaten a lot of lobster rolls. It was seasoned perfectly and I loved the addition of dill to it. Definitely what I would get here again and again. This spot is close to Mystic Aquarium so we stopped by after a morning at the aquarium. Also tried out the burger which was solid and my son enjoyed the footlong hotdog. This spot is right on the water, so plenty of great views while you are eating lunch. The employees definitely seem use to handling large crowds and the wait for the food was super reasonable. Looking forward to diving into a lobster roll here again!

Yelp
What a fantastic summer meal. You order at the shack, grab a table, and after the food is ready you go wild. Cold lobster roll was great! We had fun sitting and watching the boats on the water.
google avatar

Kimberly W.

Yelp
The service was great and you can't beat that view! The food was surprisingly delicious for a roadside shack, too! Bring your own cutlery because they use plastic utensils-pro tip for those who love that clean water view!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good cold lobster roll, not the best in the world but decent. Nice views of the water. Place was desolate when i was there.

Yelp
So we were on a hunt to find the best clam strips in mystic. And this place it right off the main road on the water and picnic outdoors style seating. Great. Family spot These were just OK. They were pretty meaty but kind of soggy and not particularly hot. A little disappointing, especially since they cook to order. If clam strips is your thang, there are better ones in Mystic. These were a solid base hit and if you're a novice or in a pinch they'll do but ....
google avatar

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Nice roadside seafood stand w/ water views. I got the calamari dinner plate which was good. There is an ice cream place next door, but I did not indulge. I'd stop by again if in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
The best part of this popular snack bar is the view! There are gorgeous views of the Mystic River! The snack bar has a typical fried food menu with clam chowder (very good), whole belly clams (very good), fish and chips (good), and foot long hot dogs (good). There are lobster rolls that look good but we haven't had them yet. It's right next door to Twisters-an ice cream stand with an extensive menu. (The moose tracks is my favorite!) But be warned - this is a popular spot and it's best to go at off hours!
google avatar

Kathleen W.

Yelp
Cute little seafood stand right on the water. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were generous. Order was also ready really fast. The fries were so crispy! The lobster roll had lots of tender meat and the bread was toasted nicely. The clam strips were surprisingly tender and have the right amount of breading. Would highly recommend for casual dining for seafood lovers visiting Mystic. Keep in mind, this place is seasonal so always check their Facebook for their updates.

Yelp
Great deal for a lobster roll! I looked at a bunch of spots like this, and Sea view had very solid pricing. I wasn't disappointed when I got there - the lobster roll was very generous on the lobster, and it tasted great! The view of the water was lovely - be careful of the birds. I saw one snatch the whole roll off this woman's plate when she went for condiments. Protect your food hahaha Fries were meh, but I still wanted them. Not the crispiest and thicker than I like, but good pairing! Counter service, you pay then you sit at a picnic table.
google avatar

Tiffanie S.

Yelp
I did the hoity toity places downtown and I liked this place better! Solid American fare at the best prices in town. I loved the clam strips and loved the little condiments bar. Great, clean relaxed spot right next to the water.

Yelp
This is stop 3 looking for my ideal New England Clam Chowder and finally I found it. Perfect amount of clams vs potatoes, right size bits, potatoes were firm (not mushy) and the thickness was just rich (not to light and not to thick). Service was very fast and it's a nice little run down sea shack so it gives off those old school New England beach vibes.
google avatar

Kimmeh W.

Yelp
Best lobster roll of my life hands down! Also a nice atmosphere and view by the water.
google avatar

Yelp
We were looking for a quick bite to eat and came across this place. Everyone in my family who got the clam chowder loved it. Their food is reasonably priced and their service was quick to come out. It's right by the water with outdoor seating. The ambiance is peaceful.
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
The menu offered a variety of food for everyone in your family! From footlong hot dogs, chicken tenders, scallops, lobster rolls, hamburgers, French fries, onion rings etc. Everything is cooked fresh and delicious! A must " go to visit" when in the Mystic area.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a sweet spot! Little clam shack with an extensive menu. On our most recent visit, I ordered the clam roll and hubby had chowder and clam cakes. We sat at the picnic table overlooking the Mystic Harbor, then walked to Twists for ice cream. This is one of our favorite places in town and we visit frequently.
google avatar

Yelp
I love a good upscale shack and SeaView Snack Bar fits the bill. They're right on the water with plentiful picnic table seating and a menu focused on seafood but with something for everyone. My mother loved her lobster roll combo- $27.95 for a cold lobster, French fries and soda. My chicken salad- $11.95 was top notch- with fresh grilled chicken and farm fresh garden greens. And the views are gorgeous. Portapotty bathroom, plentiful parking and all credit cards are accepted.

Yelp
We go on many trips to the Sea Port and Aquarium during the year. When SEA VIEW is open we stop by for a lobster roll or hamburger deluxe. Everything we have has been delicious and fresh. Recently we have ordered the clam strips and sea scallops. The scallops were so good. The fish sandwich is really good and priced very nice. The cold lobster roll is my favorite and when they close in late October for the season. I always get a lobster roll for my birthday to close out a fantastic season. Sea View snack bar is a great place where locals go and when finished go right across the lawn to Twisters ice cream.

Yelp
I didn't know if it would be destination seafood, or just a place that happens to do seafood, and a quick, unscientific survey suggests closed-early-in-2022 Sea Swirl gets more hype. But this belongs in the first tier, starting with the cold lobster roll. I disagree with mayo-hating purists; Sea View has just the right amount of this condiment and celery, not overshadowing the sweet, fresh crustacean. The frying is meticulous, with just a dusting that doesn't distract from the seafood. I was lucky enough to have belly clam and scallop rolls. As a Rhode Island chowder fanatic I didn't initially consider the New England version available here but it turned out to be a good one. Service is friendly and fast and the riverside setting is phenomenal.

Yelp
I enjoyed & highly recommend my chili long dog. No hot lobster rolls. Only cold. My parental enjoyed the burger. It appeared juicy. Make any item a combo for $3.95. Then, you can upgrade sizes if you like. Staff polite. Parking Lot is open. Outdoor porta potty. Portable blue box. No thanks! Water front. They have binoculars for 25 cents on site. Fountain drinks. Onion rings are on the menu.

Yelp
I know that this place gets busy during the lunch hour and evening dinner rush so thankfully I was able to call in my order for a quick pick up. Thank goodness I did because the line to order was super long when I arrived. I was able to skip pass the line and pick up my order which was ready in about 15 mins from calling. We ordered a cup of clam chowder, a lobster roll with bacon with fries, and a crab cake sandwich with fries. The clam chowder wasn't bad but was lacking something special. The lobster roll tasted great but the real winner was the crab cake sandwich which was full of clumpy crab meat. I would come back again to try some clam fritters or other items next time!
google avatar

Yelp
It's a tourist trap, sure: but if you're craving simple fried seafood in Mystic...you can't do much better. I took a drive up to Connecticut on a sunny Sunday morning and stopped off at Seaview Snack Bar for lunch. The setting is as simple as the fare: a wooden shack on Mystic River serving up fried goodness with picnic tables and umbrellas to beat the sun. I snagged a whole clam roll, a soda, and some slaw. The clams were great but the food is overpriced.
google avatar

Clare C.

Yelp
Came by this place for lunch. Had a great time! Right on the water with a nice view. Was able to get a parking spot in the parking lot. Cute outside dining that was very casual. Lots of seafood options and I ordered the crab cake sandwich. I loved it! Very good and the sauce was great. Food came out pretty quickly and a nice ice cream shop right next door. Pretty fair prices. The sandwich was ~$10. Overall such a cute lunch spot and a nice time!

Jeff S.

Yelp
This is a classic New England seafood shack. The lobster roll is good, but consisted only of claw meat and much of it was the gelatinous kind that I'm not a big fan of. There was a long line at lunch. There's only a portable toilet available and no place to wash your hands. The location and view is great.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
No frills can be a good thing. Sea View is a very 'what you see is what you get' place. Beautiful views of the water with picnic tables right on it. Just a small roadside stand. Lunch items versus dinner stuff. Service is about what you'd expect (unremarkable). Nothing is fancy and nothing needs to be. Prices were a bit high by my standards, but hey, inflation. I ordered the whole belly clams combo, and my wife got chicken tenders. While it was pricey, the whole bellies were a very generous portion. I can never find these in NY so it was a rare treat. They were perfectly fried, molten on the inside and wonderful. Fries were decent too. My wife liked her chicken too. Made for a relaxing lunch which is exactly what we needed versus a sit down, stuffy meal. If this is what you're looking for, you'll like this place.
google avatar

Indira S.

Yelp
Simple and good, had lots of allergy info so we can make sure the kids who have allergies are safe. The clam strips were yummy!
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
We came here to grab a bite after spending a few hours at the Mystic Seaport Museum and Seaport Village. This is a shack right on the main road with a beautiful view of the water. There is plenty of parking and a bunch of picnic tables outside. The menu is posted outside and you order through the window. The staff were friendly when I ordered and picked up the food. We had the large Cole slaw and 2 cups of the New England Clam Chowder. The clam chowder was creamy and there were a good portion of clams in the chowder. I can't wait to go back to try the other food.
google avatar

Cathy T.

Yelp
As a life long New Englander, I wasn't impressed. $7 for a half dozen clam cakes. I get that it's Mystic and the height of tourist season, but come on. Cakes were ok, a little chewy. Limited to New England and RI clam chowder. No Manhattan. Otherwise, nice spot on the water and plenty of parking
google avatar

Jo L.

Yelp
Cold lobster roll combo (fries and soda) $25.95 not as mayo-y as I thought it would be which is good! Probably wouldn't get it again but did not mind trying it. More because of a personal preference than the item itself. Clam strip combo (fries and coleslaw) $20.95 really good. Like a reviewer said there was more clam than batter. Did not feel too oily or heavy. Would get this again. Good when dipped into the New England clam chowder too. Small New England clam chowder $4.29 would've been better if it was hot but not bad. A bunch of dip options. Lots of tables and benches to enjoy the peaceful view.
google avatar

Bob D.

Yelp
Great location, esp. on a hot & humid day. The whole-belly clams, alas, were pretty scrawny, & the wife's crabcake sandwich disintegrated upon eating. Probably won't be back (the tab was over $50!). There must be better choices....
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
Great quick lunch spot along Mystic River. My family had shrimp, fish and chips and a cheese burger with cheese fries. All were delicious. Only suggestion and it's being picky would be to have bigger cups available for cocktail and tarter sauces. So dipping is easier. Beautiful views, friendly workers.
google avatar

Don B.

Yelp
A sweet spot with great views and nice water views. Be sure to BYOB, if you would like an adult beverage with your meal.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Our food was super fresh and tasted very good. The prices were great, the staff was very friendly and the view was great!
google avatar

Victoria F.

Yelp
If you're looking for quick good eats, this is the place. The food is what it is, fried seafood by the water! Can't ask for more than that! The space is large and accommodating, plenty of different food options to choose from and the best bonus, twisters is a hop skip walk over to the other side. This place is a mystic trip staple that we never miss! If you have kids, they will enjoy looking at the water! The clam strips and fried fish were fresh and delicious and the serving sizes are plentiful! Don't like seafood, that's ok! They have burgers and hot dogs at a reasonable price! Perfect for everyone!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday afternoon. No line. Shack where you order through the window. They have a bunch of picnic tables outside. We brought our dog since it was pet friendly We had the fried whole belly clams, clam chowder and my husband had the fried shrimp dinner. The clam chowder was sooooo good. The whole belly clams were good too but I wished the clams were bigger. We opted for the whole belly clams side order instead of dinner. They both are 8oz of clams just that the dinner comes with fries and cole slaw.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
This is a classic seafood "shack" restaurant. There is only outdoor seating at picnic tables so it closes up for the winter in late September. Very popular with locals and tourists alike. Fish is always fresh and perfectly cooked. The portions are generous. If you are not a big eater, one order of fish and chips can be enough for two. Prices are very fair for the amount you get. It is right on the water! If you need dessert there is an ice cream shop next door!
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Not that impressive to say the least... While the staff was very friendly I have to start by saying that I'm in touch with the reality of todays economy and the fact that you get less for more $$$$ Two clam strip roll combos with drink and ff is how the signage read and how I ordered. Maybe those were last years prices and signs???? I'm not one to argue over pricing but..... For what a paid for this combo and I did not get fries?! Is just a shame. The quality is lacking and I've left there this time, pretty much deciding that I will not be returning. The great thing about living locally is there will be a new option next year and every year until (well for as long as my pocket can sustain ct prices) I can't share pics because I was so dissatisfied with the portion and quality that I didn't bother to take any. I would recommend looking around and choosing another option if at all possible!! I hate to be the barer of bad news but that's just an honest opinion!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
When we saw the small shack by the water, we knew it had to be good! Lobster rolls were fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. We really enjoyed the clam chowder - super rich and flavorful.. There's plenty of outdoor seating, enough for larger groups. Friendly service. We came when it was pouring outside and enjoyed our meal nonetheless. First place on my list if I visit again.
google avatar

Risa G.

Yelp
Quaint seafood shack near I-95 in Mystic (before seaport). Ray in/out without the hassle of the seaport. Good food. Lobster roll was better than scallops (but it was good). Lots of big pieces of lobster in roll with light Mayo and celery. Beautiful views. Glad we stopped.
google avatar

Janice C.

Yelp
Stopped by today for early lunch after visiting Olde Mistick Village. Ordered whole belly clam plate to share. Portion was ok $29.00. Clams were way too big for our liking. Bellies were sweet and juicy but the necks were way too chewy and couldn't eat them. Come slaw was so so. Picnic table to eat at were under a canopy. Plenty of people coming and going. Too many other places in the area to try. Should have eaten at Mistick Village.
google avatar

J. K.

Yelp
Best lobster roll anywhere. Reasonable price, and great portion of lobster. Nice view of the water/.

t k.

Yelp
Based on Yelp reviews, pulled off I-95 and brought fried whole belly claims (about $29). i left with my order and opened the bag as I was driving. The clams did not smell fresh and looking at them you could tell the oil was really old (the breading was dark with a blackish hue). After tasting one, I immediately pulled into the nearest gas station and put them in the trash. That was an expensive mistake and shame on the person that cooked them and thought that it was ok to serve.

Yelp
After a day long car trip to Mystic, the family was famished and in need of some good food. We stopped over at the end of the dinner rush and luckily found parking, there are spots for about a dozen cars. As the name of establishment implies, this is a casual place. The menu is posted outside the ordering window, they give you a number and then announce your number when your order is up. The menu has everything from seafood to burgers, etc. They only sell cold lobster rolls and since I very much prefer the hot CT style, this was a bit disappointing but I was blown away with how good the cold lobster roll was. The hint of dill was super refreshing. The husband, 5 year old and 2 year old loved the food (clam strips are awesome). So much so that we ate here again on a different night. Totally recommend the tuna melt, probably an underrated item. The picnic tables and water view setup is lovely. The kids were excited that there was ice cream a couple steps away. I definitely recommend Sea View Snack Bar for casual, tasty food that most everyone will enjoy.

Susan J.

Yelp
Fun food, cult following. People have been coming back for years. Picnic tables, casual environment.
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Great for a quick lunch bite by the ocean. Parking was easy (1pm on a Wednesday). The Whole Clams were especially fantastic!

Tachal T.

Yelp
Walk up service, decent prices, delicious food, nice view of the river. Laid back, no-frills place. Open seasonally. I got the crab cake sandwich. Basic but complex flavor profile. Delicious! Clam chowder was average. Some of the clams were chewy.
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Nothing like a lobster roll on a cold ass rainy day in Mystic. The lobster rolls are good but nothing stands out about it. Lobster BLT is what we ordered. Not as meaty as I'd like. If you've been to Lobster Shack in Rhode Island, you'll know what I mean by meaty. Clam strips however are the best I've ever had. Meaty clams in each bite. Unlike the other versions where you'll just get fried batter and barely taste any kind of clam. Fries are crispy as hell. Overall, good place.
