Where to Shop for Specialty Groceries in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Frozen ready-to-cook lumpia should be at the top of your shopping list at this chain of Filipino markets with locations throughout the county. Other hard-to-find items to add to your cart include powdered ube, fresh pan de sal, and longanisa sausages." - darlene-horn

A store with very poor management and long lines, where you end up wasting a lot of time just waiting to pay—and staff who clearly don’t care at all. The business owner, in an attempt to maximize profits, keeps an insufficient number of employees, forcing customers to pay the price by wasting their time in long lines. Most of the staff are untrained and treat customers in a way that resembles a third-world business environment. I live in the neighborhood, and because of these issues, I only shop at this store maybe two or three times a year, and even then only out of necessity. As far as I know, several of my neighbors also avoid shopping there. If you observe the customers in line, most are buying just one or two items, which clearly shows that they too only come here for essential purchases. If the owner thinks this is a smart strategy, as someone who has run a business for many years, I can tell you—it’s a serious mistake. He is losing a significant amount of potential profit each year. More importantly, this is not the third world. Here, you’re expected to respect customers and their rights.

Great place to buy Asian food and groceries. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a grill city inside the store where you can buy different BBQ and regular Filipino foods. They Chow King, Red Ribbon in the same plaza. The Boiling Crab is also across from it. Seafood City has fresh fish and they could clean it and fry it for you so you don't have to cook it at home. I think that was a great idea.

Really, enjoyed myself at Seafood City Supermarket. Brought some fresh fish. They deep fried it for me. Got, home and heated it. Fresh, Excellent Taste. BEST IN The WEST Ten Stars

This place has been very expensive and the people that works here are rude and mean. Also, they talk to you in Tagalog without asking if you speak the language. They just assume that you speak it if you look Filipino. Staffs are not very helpful and barely smiles. It is very disappointing because from what I’ve heard Filipino’s are very kind and hospitable. But i guess it does not apply to the people who works here.

Been here before and it was very good, last time, not so much. Got 2 2-item combos and some skewers and a couple of sodas for nearly $60. Everything is on steam tables but they must now be turned on. All our food was cold and stale. Ordering was a challenge. And not because a language barrier or anything like that, we understood each other fine. I asked for half rice and half pancit on both combos and you would've thought I was asking them to donate a kidney. I wanted to go around the corner to Manila Fast food and Desserts but other people in my group swore by this place. And like I said, I'd been here before and it was alright. Won't be making that mistake again. *And, no, I dont work or get paid by Manila fast food and Desserts. I'm just a fan...

The two factors that really catches the customer impression, is customer service and the bathroom. Your customer service is friendly. Your bathroom needs a lot of work. It smells urine with a very strong odor. It turns me off. Generally the place is ok.

Well stocked with a wide variety of produce and Filipino foods. They are maintaining social distancing and almost everyone there had a mask on, so glad to see a business taking things seriously! We got fresh bread and my kid (born in the Philippines) was able to get some food that they haven't had in a while and I'm too afraid to attempt to cook. The smile on their face was worth the trip. Service was great. Always a little crowded but its a grocery store? Its gonna be crowded. (Also the siopao and lumpia at the Chow King take out are amazeballs. SO GOOD).
