Best Filipino Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"Though this is definitely a supermarket, Seafood City offers some of the best Filipino cuisine in the state. Shoppers are almost immediately greeted by its bustling food court, which features Halo Halo’s assortment of fruity drinks, shakes, and juices; rice bowls and Filipino bolognese from Sizzle; a self-service station with hot foods, including slices served from a whole roasted pig; and the ever-popular Grill City, which serves a seemingly endless selection of grilled proteins, including whole squid, fish, skewered and barbecued meats, and chicharones fried fresh. If it’s your first time, give the food court and Seafood City’s many aisles a once-over to explore a storeful of options before committing to one. Finish the trip by stopping into the Baker’s Son on the way out. This Sugar Land outpost of this Florida-founded Filipino bakery is filled with some of the most indulgent treats, with a special focus on ube. You’ll find shelves and shelves of goodies, including ube cheese rolls, pan de ube, and trays of ube coffee cake iced with cream cheese frosting." - Marcy de Luna

Our recent visit to Seafood City in Sugar Land, TX, was a genuinely decent experience. The store itself is remarkably clean, a refreshing change from some other markets. We found the staff to be consistently helpful, always ready to assist. Their wide variety of Filipino food offerings is impressive, including the highly sought-after halo-halo, which was delicious. What truly sets them apart is their extensive selection of Filipino grocery items – far more complete than other Filipino groceries we've found in the Houston area. While it is a bit pricier, we still highly recommend it, especially if you're craving authentic Filipino flavors and products.

So I went during the weekend and this supermarket/food court and I think 1/3 of its size is food and drinks. Several stores offer different types of food. Get ready to wait about 30 minutes in line. I ordered 2 different types of fish and a squid for $35. Fish was good and have stuffing inside on 1 of the fish. The squid was so-so also with the stuffing inside as well. BBQ skewers was ok too. I think is a bit pricey but they have so much varieties that I want to go back and try. I love the Halo Halo drinks stuff with toppings.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an amazing experience at Seafood City in Sugar Land, TX, especially at Grill City! The food quality is excellent—comparable to what you’d find in high-end Asian restaurants. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and authentically Filipino. The place itself is huge, well-organized, and much cleaner than many other Asian markets we’ve visited. What truly stood out was the exceptional customer service. The employees were very helpful and welcoming, regardless of where you’re from. We were pleasantly surprised to see English-speaking staff, which is not always common in similar Asian establishments. It made the experience even more convenient and enjoyable. If you’re looking for top-notch Filipino food and a great shopping experience, this is the place to be. Highly recommended! Will definitely return.

If you’re looking at Seafood City in Sugarland, you probably already know that this is a Filipino Super Store. But it’s not just for Filipinos! This store has a huge selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, dry and canned food, snacks, and, of course, fish along with an extensive fresh meat counter. At the front of the store is a food court where you can get authentic Filipino dishes and baked goods. We stopped on a Thursday in the afternoon to do some shopping and get some food from the City Grill in the food court. We got a two-meat combo with a pork and a chicken BBQ stick. It’s served with either Pancit or Rice or half-in-half, which is what we got. It also comes with a non-grilled entrée, and we picked the Bopis, which is a very popular spicy Filipino dish made with minced lung and other stuff (honestly, I’m not really sure what is all in it!). The BBQ sticks were good, and we preferred the pork over the chicken. The pancit was okay, but we’ve had better. If you want to be adventurous and try a truly authentic Filipino dish, give the Bopis a try. Again, we have had better. Overall, if you are looking for a true Filipino dining experience, Seafood City is the place to go.

Seafood City Supermarket in Sugar Land must be the Mecca of the Filipino grocery experience stateside! I believe it opened in December 2023 and has been a hit for the Filipino community in Houston. It’s a go-to spot for anyone looking for Filipino groceries, fresh seafood, and a bakery. One of the highlights is Bakers’ Avenue, the in-house bakery, which serves delicious ube-flavored pastries and cakes. The food court in general is a great place to be. There is an offering of authentic Filipino dishes and desserts to enjoy. The store is clean and has restrooms located near the food court. If you’re lucky you’ll catch may catch live karaoke 🎤 like I did at the food court. I highly recommend atleast going to any of the bakeries there if you don’t know what to expect!m and it being your first time! Can’t go wrong there. The overall grocery experience is great as I have seen many popular stateside and beloved brands from overseas that you don’t even see with the mom and pop Filipino stores(especially the beer selection.) The customer service is good and I felt like I was welcomed. I feel like this is a great opportunity to explore what the Filipino community has to offer.
