Where to Find the Best Fish Tacos in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"This popular food truck, which moved from its previous location in South Park to Golden Hill in early 2024, operates daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Its mostly seafood menu is still on offer, including its fried fish tacos with cabbage slaw, crema, and pico de gallo; the grilled fish version; and pepper-studded shrimp gobernador tacos." - Candice Woo

"Anyone looking to learn the mariscos ropes would be wise to visit this South Park mariscos truck. Best Mexican Food in San Diego | Condé Nast Traveler

"It may look like every other marisco food truck in San Diego, of which there are about a million, and it may be permanently parked at a Target Express. But this restaurant on wheels serves some of the city's best (and cheapest) Mexican food, where tacos come in at just under $2—each. Come your turn, get an order of fried shrimp tacos, plus the tostadas—crunchy corn tortillas topped with tangy, lime-doused seafood chunks , and find some curb to park it on." - Archana Ram

Google
Officially obsessed! Best fish and shrimp tacos ever. I’m not sure how they got it SO right. The ingredients are extremely fresh and delicious. They do not scrimp on the fresh tomatoes, cabbage and onion, and it’s always perfect avocado which is rare. You get a complimentary sample of fresh soup with your meal, which you can drizzle on your tacos for a burst of extra flavor and comfort. I’ll be honest that the ambience is only so-so. It’s a food truck in a random convenience store parking lot. They do the best they can. There’s fold out tables, Spanish music, and floating plants, but no chairs to sit down. I’ve lived in San Diego all my life. My standards are high and I can say this Mexican food truck is really really good. I don’t mind the lack of chairs because the food is top tier, especially for those Mexican seafood cravings. I hope they will open a real restaurant soon!

Google
This place hit the spot. I could have eaten a whole mess of Marlin tacos. I ordered only one because I had to assist.my wife with her octopus ceviche as well as the shared order of fish flautas. Everything was very good. I would be here at least twice a month if I lived nearby. Keep it up. I don't trust a city that doesn't have good food trucks.

Stopped in and had the taco trio. Food was great, hot sauce variety was also nice. I would definitely stop in when in the neighborhood. Lady who was there to help me on Presidents Day was super friendly. Offered a cup of soup too. 👌🔥🌮 I couldn’t even finish the tacos, so much food.

Google
Amazing fish tacos! Perfectly crisp and served warm. Their shrimp quesadilla is delicious too! The truck is parked in a parking lot and easy to park. Definitely worth the drive from LA!

Google
I don’t try fish tacos often enough, but I’m glad I tried out this local food truck. Absolutely tasty fish tacos. I ordered 3 and I was already full after eating 2. I also came on their Taco Tuesday which was a really good deal at $2.25 a taco. Leticia was also nice enough to give me some fish soup on the house which was really good. Best fish tacos in San Diego. Lastly, I liked how there was an area to the side to eat. Has this cool little setup with a canopy for shade, wood cladding panels, & bistro lights. Come check out this food truck. -SocalBlvd

Google
We come from Ventura County and this is the place we always go to! The food is great and fresh!! Unfortunately, I'm allergic to Shrimp so they do a great job of catering to my needs and I always get fish ceviche, fish tacos, and aguachile de pulpo!! They will accommodate to your needs! I highly recommend and it's a must go to anything you are in town! Here are a couple of pics. I forgot to take more since I was too excited eating my pulpo aguachile.

Google

Google
Delicious food and great service. They even accommodate my shellfish allergy as best as possible. You have to try the fish taco.

Yelp
Tristemente no volveremos. Ojalá vuelven a tener el sabor de antes.

Yelp
Best fish tacos ever must try them if you like fast tacos these are a must try especially on taco Tuesday

Yelp
If you ever had Moriscos Nine Seas Seafood/Ocean 97 you know that food truck is the best. I was so sad when I found out they closed. Every time I visited SD, it was my go to place. Luckily with some research I found Seafood La 57 that basically had an identical menu. I took my boyfriend and friends to come try and it was just as delicious as I remember. We ordered fish tacos with a flour tortilla and the Loca Tostada. The fish tacos are amazing! Crispy, moist, and tender. Might be the best fish tacos I've had! The Loca Tostada is perfect for you if you love seafood. The portions are great and the seafood is so fresh. I really can't recommend this place more. We got our food pretty quickly too. You get a complimentary soup while you wait for your food. A perfect casual place to eat with friends and family. It is a food truck, but there's a covered area where you can eat while standing.

Yelp
Amazing little hidden gem!!! The original fish taco is great, and I usually do the aguachile or ceviche tostada...good portion to make at least 2 tostadas, but the flavor is always on point. The service is also great! Went once, and went back 3 weeks later and the girl recognized me, welcomed me back and thanked us for returning. Definitely a nice touch!

Margarita S.

Yelp
Tostada loca. I live far but it worth the price and drive too. Make sure you ask for spicy sauce
google avatar

Mark T.

Yelp
Delicious fish tacos. Plenty of fish, fresh cabbage and sauce. They gave us a sample of their soup while we waited. That's good service.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid place to get some tacos for Tuesday. 2 for 7$ fish tacos. ceviche is not bad and service is fast

Yelp
I was in the area and wanted a cheap and quick dinner. I saw this taco truck parked outside a liquor store and decided to stop by. What I like about this truck is that they had a large seating area with tables which is something you don't see from often from food trucks. As expected with most taco trucks they give you a free soup as you wait. The tacos were pretty large considering they were $2 each. It wasn't bad but not the best fish tacos I've had. The service was a little confusing. The lady working there didn't seem too thrilled but to be fair it was almost the end of their day so maybe she was just tired.
google avatar

Yelp
Get ready for the BEST tacos and service in all of SD! This was my first time of many to come. We got the A la Diablo Octopus, a grilled shrimp taco and carnitas. Holy they were incredible, fresh, hot and flavorFULL. 12/10 recommend!!
google avatar

Yelp
Casual food truck located near the back of a target parking lot. Originally wanted a burrito but they were out of carne then when I wanted to order the shrimp burrito I was told it would be a 20 minute wait so I ended up ordering the fish ceviche and tropical ceviche tostadas. It was a decent amount of food for the price but i definitely wish I had gotten a burrito considering how messy it was to eat the tostadas. There are a couple of standing tables which was okay but they weren't very clean. The taste of the fish was okay and it was a refreshing choice on a very warm day but certainly not an item i feel the need to get again. The service was nothing noteworthy. They had a nice self serve bar with onions, limes, sauce, etc that livened up the dish. Overall, it was just fine.

Yelp
This place is located right in the parking lot of Golden Hill Liquor across the street from B Street Starbucks. It is really consistent with great staff. They have great fish tacos and wonderful soup. My toddler loves the soup and when my daughter was younger, she used to love the fish tacos plain. We love them with both sauces and especially onions and limes. This place definitely wont let you down if you visit. We have been coming here since it used to be at target on grape street and they have never let us down. They are convenient and haven't unpriced too much through the years. Their food is great quality and always warms the soul for us and our family.

Yelp
Im a regular here- this place is my favorite for fish tacos. Octopus a la diabla and fish ceviche also pretty solid!

Yelp
I've always heard about this Seafood truck located in the South Park neighborhood and finally made a trip there while I was in the area. It's everything the reviews and YouTube videos claimed and the food was fresh and delicious. I ordered the Tostada Mix which had a wonderful ceviche that included fish, shrimp, octupus etc. They sold a larger tostada called the "Loca Tostada" that included mussels and more, but I'm going to save that for the next trip. The portions were huge, fresh and mouthwatering. I added a squeeze of lime to the mix. I enjoyed each and every bite. The cruchy tostada shells and the salty taste of the ceviche was simply wonderful. I watched as orders of golden, brown fish tacos and other goodies went out the pickup window and was really tempted, but I held back for now. My Tostada Mix was going to be enough of a task to eat and can easily be shared by two people. If you're in the South Park San Diego area, be sure to drop by. You won't regret it. You can find the Seafood La 57 truck at the north end of the Target parking lot.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended by a few business around it. We ordered: 3 fish tacos and 2 shrimp tacos. It did take a bit to get our food but we didn't mind the wait. Everything tasted perfectly and I can see why this place was highly recommended. The tacos are reasonably priced considering the portion. The guys working this day were friendly and had a great attitude. The music playing in the background added to the experience. They do have tables to place your food on but no chairs. Which works out perfectly since this is more of a quick bite type of place. We will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
If you visit San Diego, you MUST stop by Seafood la 57! The truck is located in a Target parking lot, so there will never be a problem looking for parking. They also have a tent with a few standing tables, so if you wanted to eat your food fresh, you would have the option to. There were so many options to choose from, but you MUST get their fish tacos and Tostada Loca. They give such big pieces of fish that were cooked to perfection! It was so buttery and flavorful and the batter was so crispy. The Tostada Loca was delicious as well. They pile a huge mountain of seafood (shrimp, octopus, crab, etc) on top of a crispy tostada. They give you extra tostadas on the side as well since you won't actually get to the bottom for a while. My first visit was so satisfying that I had to visit one last time as my last meal in San Diego. Everything was so fresh and the prices are hard to beat. I will 100% go back when I visit SD again.

Yelp
You cannot beat the value and quality you get at this place. Make sure you come here hungry and be prepared to get stuffed. Do you normally eat 3 tacos? Order 2 only, or be shamed for not finishing your food. Each order is massive, skillfully crafted with high quality ingredients to blow your mind. Order anything you would normally order (it will be solid) + the loca tostada. How did I find this place? YouTuber and foodie, Mark Wiens.

Yelp
In walking the South Park neighborhood for some lunch we stumbled upon this seafood food truck and wondered why we waited so long do so! They have since moved to a new location on B street next to the liquor store but I'll be following them there for all my fresh aguachile needs. We all had their fish tacos which are pretty hefty and filling, complete with their pico and sliced cabbage toppings. Make sure to add all their salsas and cremas because it takes it to another level. My favorite was the tropical aguachile which was so spicy in the best way. I wanted to keep eating so that heat grew until you couldn't handle it anymore. The marinade is juicy, tart, and sweet and sooo much shrimp was on that plate that I should have shared it really (but why would I do that!?). I also want to mention the service and people: so kind and they get those orders moving. When you walk up they give you some consommé to sip on and I feel so welcomed. I can't say enough about this food truck family!

Yelp
Had Seafood la 57 food truck bookmarked for our trip to SD over MDW as my bf saw Mark Weins came here. We over-ordered since my bf mistook that the Baja Trio is actually 3 separate tacos and their portions here are HUGE (he thought it was 3 fish in ONE taco - whoops!). Anyway, located in the back of the parking lot of Target, and they have few tables set up by the truck. I loved the Grilled Shrimp Taco, and what I think is the Marlin from the Baja Trio. Shrimp Ceviche was good, standard. They have a variety of salsas on the side, I liked the orange and green ones. As most reviews have said, this is bang for your buck as I got full off 1.5 taco + bites of ceviche.

Yelp
Came here on Tuesday afternoon (~3pm) and there were a handful of people. Got 1 fish taco (~$3) and 1 tostada loca ($15) and it was enough for 2 ppl. Tostada loca comes with everything you can think of (octopus, shrimp, fish, mussels). Tasted fresh. Fish taco was delicious! very filling. They didn't give us the fish soup :( but I'd definitely still come here again.

Yelp
Pulled up on a Sunday around noon since I was already hitting up Z's Buddies and similarly, Seafood la 57 is a food truck located in the Target parking lot. They actually have tables you can stand at under an overhang as well if you want to have your food fresh and while there were plenty of customers eating, there wasn't a line to order. Tostada Loca (3.75/5): There's a huge variety of seafood on the tostada, though they were out of octopus today, and the serving size s super generous. I just did find myself searching for the onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers to lighten up the eating experience and the flavor profile was a little monotonous, but not a bad experience by any means. As a shoutout however, they do serve you cups of seafood soup with hearty chunks of fish while you wait for your order and that soup slaps really hard! Honestly, I was more impressed by the complimentary soup than my actual order.
google avatar

Nancee T.

Yelp
Love this food truck for their seafood tostadas!! It's sooooooo good!! Always a must for us when we're in SD. We like how there's covers and tables if we decide to eat there instead of taking it home. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Alicia L.

Yelp
The service and location is great, unfortunately that is where it ended for me. I ordered 2 tacos and neither were very appetizing. First up, the shrimp taco. Shrimp tasted like they were frozen, not fresh and also were not deveined. Yuck ! Second taco was a carne asada taco. Meat was grisly and was really chewy. I ended up spitting out half of the meat.

Olivia M.

Yelp
Quick and definitely get your moneys worth! 10/10, recommend stopping by. Was looking for some amazing seafood near gaslamp when i found a great review for here
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
This is my favorite fish tacos truck in all of San Diego. I've been coming to this place for years, and I've taken many out of towners to try the spot out. Everyone loves this place. Fish tacos are gigantic and so cheap, and the fish is very fresh. They're special sauce is absolutely delicious. The fish tacos or three times the size of the once you get from Rubios and only half of the price. I also love their ceviche items. There's so many things to choose from, and always so fresh. They do so much volume and so they never have any ingredients left over. I've gone there late in the evening before they close and they're out of everything which means that nothing sit overnight. The prices are unbeatable. I just love the grungy Street vibe of this cute little truck.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Best seafood food truck in this area. Shrimp cocktail, shrimp tacos and fish tacos! Ceviche too! Do not miss out on this place during your visit in San Diego!

Cesar M.

Yelp
Sadly didn't take pictures of our food. But the service here was outstanding, the lady in the front helped us out since it was our first time there. We came with 2 kids and they accommodated the menu to our liking. We ordered a surf and turf quesadilla as well as 3 fish tacos. Food was exceptional and proportions were large. Would definitely recommend! They also gave us complimentary consume which was delicious.

Christopher G.

Yelp
These are the best fish tacos I've had in a long time! They even include a complimentary consomé (soup) with your order. Don't let the food truck setting fool you--the food here is absolutely amazing!
google avatar

Shirley O.

Yelp
Grilled fish tacos were good. The tortillas were fresh and soft. However, the fish needed more seasoning. They offered a free cup of soup which was excellent and light. There was no seating, only a covered area with a few tables to stand and eat. Good place to grab a quick bite if you're in the South Park area.

Kiandra C.

Yelp
Easily some of the best Mexican food in San Diego. The owners are so kind and they put out cute decorations to make the patio area feel cozy! The food is always hot and fresh and soooooo tasty. I crave their patron taco all the time and my husband loves their surf and turf burrito or quesadilla. Their salsas are amazing, and just like everything else has incredible flavor. We love this spot and will always choose it over anywhere else!
google avatar

Eva D.

Yelp
Honestly amazing quality at a great price. Better quality than many sit-down restaurants. Plus I know I can get full with just $10! Their marlin taco is my favorite but you honestly can't go wrong with anything here. The only down sides can be the wait. We often wait between 15-20 to get our food. The other down side is that although they do have counter height tables they do not offer chairs so you have to eat standing up. But you are eating from a food truck so that is just part of the experience. But even with those issues, still give it a 5 star for the quality and price. Rather than going to a fast food place, I come here instead. It's healthier but just as cheap.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
We came here because we saw this on Mark Wiens! But to our confusion it was a different name and truck? Did they buy the old truck or something? We weren't sure if it was the right truck, but we're here and so we ordered. There were a lot of people still. They still have the crazy tostadas, not on the menu but we asked. We also go the trio tacos (fish, shrimp and marlin). Oh man! The crazy tostada was humongous! Fresh seafood, spicy and just like seafood you get in Baja. The tacos were stuffed to perfection. The batter was thick though, but tasty. My favorite was the marlin taco, tasted like it was smoked, perfectly flavorful. Even thought it's not the same truck, we still like the style of seafood and food they serve. Definitely come back whenever in the area!
google avatar

Nhu T.

Yelp
In the Target parking lot in South Park is a food truck with a long line. There are tables that you can stand and eat your food right away as well. Known for the fish tacos... they are big and made fresh to order. The carne asada and surf and turf burritos were tasty options too. They take credit cards and make it super easy to order with a large menu on display.
google avatar

Deanna N.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this taco truck! They have AMAZING and super fresh seafood. All their items are made with love and tons of food. The staff inside the truck are always very nice and helpful. There is always a decent little line here but it's totally worth the wait. Ask for a cup of their fish soup, you won't regret it. If you love tacos and seafood, this is the spot! Their Gobernador taco is our favorite and you must get it. They stuff it to the top so come hungry!
google avatar

Amparo F.

Yelp
We called and spoke to Leticia. We told her our food for the first time in years was bad and made us sick, she pretended if I knew food was going to get me Sick why did I eat there. She did not grasp the concept we have eating there in years, I was sick and then my daughter in law was also sick. I emphasized why was she not caring that only one time in years the food has made us sick. It is not smart to eat where food makes you sick and the owners, managers and workers don't care.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this place doesn't have better reviews. I tried them once when they were located at Target and I remember it being good. I just recently ordered from them again at their new location and it was so fire. Can't say for the other dishes, but the grilled fish/regular fish tacos hit the spot always!!!! So good. Get the chipotle sauce and add the extras on the side of the truck.
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I first came 2 years ago and loved the fish tacos and loca tostada so I had to return when I was visiting San Diego. I came to the same parking lot but the truck changed to a different name. There were 4 tables under a tent for people to eat at (no seats, just tables) but there were so many flies around that it was really annoying to eat there. While you wait for your food, they also give a cup of complimentary soup that had a hint of spice but I liked the flavor. I ordered the fish tacos and loca tostada again but it didn't give me the "omgosh it's amazing" feel that I had before. The fish tacos used to have huge pieces of fish and don't get me wrong, these are still big tacos but I guess I just had higher expectations. The fish was crispy though and with the addition of the sauces on the table, it was still a great taco! The loca tostada had lots of fresh seafood: oysters, fish, shrimp, octopus and more. There was plenty of tostada to pair with it and it was a refreshing choice. Given the price points of their menu, it's definitely still a good spot for seafood and fish tacos! Maybe take it to go and eat somewhere else cause the flies did not make the experience enjoyable and there were also no napkins available.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Best fish tacos in San Diego. I hit this truck at least once a week. Their ceviche is delicious and big enough to share. You need to check it out!
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
I was told this truck changes names all the time. Had the tostada loca. It was pretty good. Some of the seafood was a bit salty. I think Jalisco Marisco in LA is hands down superior! That said, where this place shines is their Fish and Shrimp Tacos! Definitely will go back for these. If I were just reviewing the tacos they'd be an easy 5 stars! Also, on google is said they were open at 9am. Regrettably, they opened at 10:30am so keep that in mind.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
I'm visiting San Diego and I have no clue why this truck has only 3.5 stars because these tacos are fire! I am a bit of a fish taco snob and this one checked all the right boxes. Disregard every review other than mine cuz these tacos are gasss
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
This place changes names more often than Sean Combs. Unlike Puffy, however, this place always stays relevant. Seafood a la 57 (formerly known as Ocean 97, which was formerly known as Mariscos Nine Seas) has had the best fish tacos and mariscos in San Diego since I first ventured over to their truck about 8 years ago. My go-to is the Baja Trio. $9 gets you three tacos: one fried fish, one fried shrimp and one smoked shredded marlin. Always amazing and good luck finding a better deal on seafood. They also have some of the best homemade salsas around too. You can find the food truck nestled in the northern end of the Target parking lot in South Park. They usually have a decent line going and you can safely expect to wait 15 minutes for your food but it's worth every minute.
google avatar

Lulu M.

Yelp
Okay, so I found this place because of mark weins on YouTube he actually filmed the video back when the truck was called seven seas or something like that...anyway I went for the tostada loca - a giant serving of shrimp, octopus, crab, muscles & the works!! Very flavorful and it comes with extra tostadas. Super delish! Only thing is if I'm being honest it was not as big as I expected it to be but it is really good. The flavor was balanced through out & the seafood tasted fresh and wasn't fishy. I would for sure come back & get two tostadas this time. :) my husband had the large Campechana he said it was really flavorful & that it came with 3 oysters (most places just put 2) *Accepts credit cards *Parking/location is in the target parking lot.

Yelp
I do like a good fish taco, and this food truck sure makes a terrific one. I had two grilled or "a la plancha" fish tacos with all the fixings and some red hot sauce. They were $3.25 each. I loved the way they double wrapped the tacos with two corn tortillas. The corn tortillas were of very good quality too and tasted great. The white fish in the tacos was a simple fish, probably a Swai or Tilapia. The fish came with a light sear and was very light and had a flaky texture. The tacos came with fresh shredded cabbage, some pico de gallo, and a light mayo base sauce. I added some of the red hot sauce and it was bliss. It tasted great with the fish and provided a nice medium heat. They young lady who took my order was very sweet and friendly. She offered me some fish consume, but I was not in the mood. The truck finds it home on Grape Street at the small Target store.
google avatar

Kim G.

Yelp
Really good food truck in the Target parking lot. I was shocked at how big my carne asada serving was! I felt like I got 2 for the price of 1! Also had their aguachille and it was BOMB
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but I got the baja trio and it was not very good. The batter was super super heavy and soggy on the fish and shrimp. I usually love fried fish tacos but this was very disappointing, unfortunately.
google avatar

Ksenia K.

Yelp
Awesome food. When I go to San Diego I always check this place and order the ceviche. It's located on the parking lot and has tables where you can conveniently eat you food

Yelp
I can't say enough of this place! Everything in the menu is super good! The service is always great, thank you Letty! Ambiance over all great and loving the new location! Not to far from their old spot worth continuing to go and visit! Cool thing about it you can park at the liquor store if your eating there!

Cassidy T.

Yelp
Great service! They gave free soup and free fish tacos as a promo. Really enjoyed the fish tacos, they were hot and full! There's an aea to stand and eat, and they bring out the food to you. Also recommend the ceviche pulpo (octopus).
google avatar

Yelp
Incredibly nice people, that also happen to make fabulous fresh fish tacos. There are other things here too, but the fish are the best. Specializing in tacos they also have a really tasty soup and some other things like quesadillas. Plenty of salsa, sauces, lime and marinated red onions, the tacos are SO BIG they they need two tortillas to even hold them. PRO tip: just pull one of the soft taco shells apart and turn your big taco into two tacos. You're welcome!
