Seafood shack

Freshly cooked to order, large portions. Ordered the cod basket. Two huge pieces of moist cod with well seasoned coating. Fries were hot and salty. Not greasy. Great price. Definitely want to try other items on the menu.

My husband and I decided to try this small take out/restaurant seafood place because we were craving fried shrimp. We were very happy with our delicious meal. The shrimp were medium size and very tender... and plentiful. I got fries and he got hush puppies as a side. Both were tasty, and the price was very reasonable. Also the man who took our order was very nice. They do have plenty of tables to eat in and the interior is super clean and tidy. Overall I was very impressed and will definitely be going back.

As everyone knows, I love a good crab cake and well-seasoned food, and this place definitely delivered. While visiting my nephew in Newport News, we stopped by and everything was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The seafood was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the service was friendly and welcoming. If you’re in Newport News and craving good seafood, this spot is worth checking out. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in town!

In town to visit— the hubby and I ordered the catfish nuggets— which were good; the okra— pretty good; Mac n cheese 👎🏾 not very good; collards were good; chicken tenders were over done and the shrimp was pretty good. The atmosphere was nice and clean- service was good as well. Over all, this place was ok.

Now this is fresh, flavorful, and filling. It's worth the price. For my first stop in VA, this place is making the trip worth while. Perfect fries too. Not in the picture.

Shrimp wrap and shrimp po'boy are tasty-licious and takeout order was quick. Service crew are friendly & nice.

Technically a 4.5, but good enough to leave a 5 star review. Don't be fooled by the location! The establishment is bright and clean with plenty of seating for guests. Their menu is easy to read, has plenty of variety, and meal prices even include a drink 😁 They have both sweet & unsweetened tea, and refills are self serve. I ordered the crab cake dinner (baked, I believe) and the food did not disappoint! The crab cakes had plenty of meat and went great with the remoulade sauce. The collard greens definitely did NOT come out of a can and were delicately tender (wish they had hot sauce on the tables 😋). I couldn't tell whether the potato salad was made in house, but it was also good nonetheless (I'd added pepper before taking photos). My only complaint is that I wish the meal came with a few hush puppies 😩

A cute little spot, however the food doesn't wow you and isn't worth the price. The cod I recieved tasted off and was overcooked, so I asked for coconut shrimp instead, which was given. However, moments later he said the reason it tasted off was the malt vinegar I used, which is absolute bunk because I shower my cod in it at other places and it always tastes good. The coconut shrimp was a bit overcooked but the sweet chili sauce covered a world of hurt. The fried okra however was seasoned well and tasty and not overcooked. Wouldn't go here again.

Great stop for fried seafood with all the fixin's! Generous servings, all made fresh. Fried shrimps are nice and juicy, catfish is lightly breaded and super tasty. Not overly seasoned, just done right. Mostly a take out place. Try their own spicy seafood sauce too!

Placed order online. Was ready before the time for pick up Was fresh, hot and very delicious. I was fighting a cold and normally can't finish a meal but I finished the shrimp tacos which were awesome! You can't go wrong here!!

I visited when it first opened. The fish was rancid. It smelled like ammonia. A new restaurant serving old fish? WTF!! I requested a refund and was given my money back with no argument. I have not been back since. I wrote a review back then, but it mysteriously disappeared.

Service was great, but the food was over cooked. Would have loved some seasoning. Establishment was very clean and the staff was pleasant.

Seafood Shack in the Oyster Point Plaza off of Jefferson and Pilot House is one of the best place to find Great Seafood, Jamal was a friendly server. They had many different choices right down to Fish Tacos and full Dinners and Baskets, the Sides available are plenty, Fried Okra, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Tater Salad, Hush Puppys and more. The serving size is plentiful, l couldn't finish it, l had to take it home, try it you'll like it.

I thought this place was new but it was only new to me. I reviewed the reviews on this place and found them to be accurate. We ordered two fish and jumbo shrimp meals with fries, Cole slaw and hush puppies. Couple of things of the bat, hush puppies are not included, they are consider a side item and counts (if you get them) as one of the two sides that comes with your dinner. The jumbo shrimp, is not jumbo shrimp. It's just regular size shrimp. My fish in the dinner I don't believe was whiting but tilapia. The reviews said the food is under seasoned but I think it was seasoned fine. It was not bad but it did not reach my expectations. We called ahead so our order was ready as soon as I arrived. Nothing much to say about the restaurant itself for it is nothing more than a pick up place. Very expensive, we paid $34 for two dinners and that did not include tip. Not saying I won't back but if I do its because I'm in the area. Happy Yelping!

My Favorite Thing Was How Everything Tasted With The Homemade Tartar Sauce, It Gave It A Little Tang Which Was Delicious. The Mac N Cheese Was A Little Lacking But Having It All Together Made Up For It. The Sweet Tea Was Also Great. $16 Shrimp & Fish Basket, Was Not Bad At All.

Just left. Had the Tuna Bites appetizer. The sauce was exciting, the bites were delicious. Then Oyster with greens as a side. Hubby had shrimp and scallop with slaw. Everything was fried perfect, not oily at all. The only thing is it would be nice to have a spicy hot sauce. Place is clean, staff very nice and respectful. Enjoyed it overall.

I get the catfish every time I order from here. Also the coconut cake is delicious. The staff is very helpful and the inside is clean.

OMGOODNESS! I tried this place because I was just at my doctor's appointment. That was right down the street, and the girl suggested it to me that she had just gone there and it was very, very good. So I left my appointment because it was 1:30pm and I hadn't eaten lunch yet, and I was so happy that I did! I loved loved.. loved the food that I got! I got the clam strip basket with fried okra as the side that I got to choose... Added 6 shrimp for only 5.99. When I took a bite of those clam strips. I realized how wonderful this was. This food was so so good and fresh. Not chewy or rubbery. I mean, the best I have had in so so long. I asked the guy if the clam strips were good when I went in and ordered. He just said, oh yeah, everything is fresh. Well, let me tell you. It was such a surprise to find out that what I ordered was absolutely delicious. I plan on going back here. I plan on telling anyone who asks me... how great it is! And thank you so much seafood shack. I think I felt found a gem...a hidden jewel.

My significant other loved this place, it was just ehh for me. The quality is good and food not oily at all. He raves about this place and tells everyone about it. As he would say, he'd come back here every week if I'd let him. Staff were kind and helpful. Place was clean and had a pleasant smell.

This was my first time dining at a Seafood Shack and DEFINITELY NOT my last time! The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, the service was EXCELLENT and the restaurant was EXTREMELY CLEAN from the front door to the restrooms!! The fried whiting and fried shrimp were cooked to perfection and super fresh!!! YELP I ate every bite !! The French fries were DELICIOUS, Hot and Fresh, and just the way I like them! The cole slaw and potato salad were delicious, nice and cold, and the Mac N Cheese was hot, just the way they should be! My husband loved his crab cake dinner and was very surprised that there was more crab meat than filler! He enjoyed the collards but was missing having smoked Turkey in them like he gets at home ! He didn't leave any on his plate! The Coconut Cake took the cake literally! OMG!! SUPER FRESH, DELICIOUS, MOIST and baked to PERFECTION ! Oh and not to forget the Homemade Sweet Tea which I ENJOYED every drop and it's free refills too ! Not too sweet just PERFECT! It was a 320 mile trip from New Jersey to get here, WORTH every mile and the prices were EXCELLENT! YES!!! I am EXCITED to RECOMMEND my family, friends and "YOU" too to give Seafood Shack a try !! YES!! You would LOVE them too!! KUDOS SEAFOOD SHACK on an EXCELLENT dining service with AMAZING foods!!! I'll DEFINITELY will be back again!!!

This is the single worst food I have ever had. My wife got 4 shrimp(small ones ) and 6 waffle fries (sweet potato) after paying the $1 up charge. We asked for grilled and specific asked for not spicy, it was blacked. And covered with spice. My fried shrimp was swimming in grease!!! The fish was full of bones!! Even the tea tasted spoiled!!!!!! They didn't not even try

I've never had an issue when ordering from the seafood shack. Food is always fresh, hot, and tasty. I usually order through Uber eats and my food always has a nice crunch. This time I ordered calamari, hush puppies, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. The collards are a little bitter which is a plus for me because I appreciate a little bitterness. Overall, I always enjoy my food.

My boyfriend loves this place. He likes the fatty flounder sammich. Really crispy and flavorful. They also have their own tarter sauce that comes with the sandwiches that we really enjoyed and goes great with all the sides we ordered as well. I had the fish tacos and they were really good as well. We would definitely be regular patrons at this joint.

$33 worth of awful food . I hate to leave bad reviews but I could have spent $33 else where. I will never try small business with no reviews again.

So I've really cut down with take out food. Used to eat out at least 3 times a week.. During the pandemic and especially after the first year I noticed such a decline in preparation, accuracy, and overall quality of food in most of restaurants. My go to for fast seafood for the last say 5 years has definitely been skrimp Shack but the one in Yorktown has deterred me from eating their food. After seeing good reviews and a good comment from the grub hub guy I tried Seafood Shack last night. The first thing I didn't like was when I called to place my order for pickup that they would not prepare it unless I put it on a credit card. Okay. I ordered fried oyster appetizer, shrimp basket with French fries and a side of Cole slaw. 28.00 dollars (expected) The menu said Jumbo Shrimp and they definitely were not, very small as were the oysters. The food was OK, just like I made it at home. Just didn't have anything tasty about it that says restaurant food. I was able to substitute bottled water instead of soda which I always appreciate. It was rainy and I hate going inside anywhere and the guy was nice enough to do curbside.

If you're in love with delicious, juicy grilled shrimp & fresh veggies, go ahead & do yourself a favor & order their grilled shrimp tacos. Ask for the (roo-am-lade) sauce ... I 100% spelled it wrong but hopefully the sweet people who work there know what I mean. I legit get their tacos w/ a garden side salad almost weekly! Beyond the shrimp, their fish & chicken tenders are cooked to perfection! The portion sizes are filling yet don't leave you feeling overly stuffed after. I'm telling you, there's no going wrong when you're eating at the seafood shack !

The food had large portions and was at a decent price. The service was good and our meal was brought to our table and the man who took our order was friendly. It wasn't a fancy place but we enjoyed our meal

The worst flounder I've ever had. Well the entire meal was disgusting. I had a side of greens and potato salad. No flavor. Even the sodas were flat and I had to get tea.

Everything is so good! We've eaten in and done carry out and everything has been fantastic! We've had catfish, shrimp, oysters, cod, and flounder. The Mac and cheese is super yummy! $12 for a pound of catfish is a great price too! Breading was light and perfect! Can't wait to go back!

Stopped here for dinner. Had a party of 12 adults and 6 children. We are far from home on vacation for the weekend. Boy were we supposed when we were greeted at the door by the less than cordial owner. He looked at us, told us it would be a wait because our party was so large, them proceeded to tell us if we didn't like his response "good luck" theres no other place to eat in town. We looked at him with confusion thinking he was kidding but he wasn't. The amount that we would have given his establishment in revenue would have been fairly large. But " good luck" guy getting another party of our size, cause it won't be us!!!! So much for southern charm... We won't EVER see him again!!!!

This place was amazing. The price is reasonable for a seafood meal. The customer service was great also. The young lady at the counter was very informative. Will be back!!!!!! Mr. & Mrs Dixon

The atmosphere and place is nice. The food is good and you get a lot for a good price. Definitely a repeat place for me.

Bad choice for me on a Sunday evening. Ordered the fried oyster basket with sweet potato fries to go. I asked for everything to be fried hard and when I got there to pick it up both the oysters and the fries were soggy. I had a feeling when I didn't see any holes poked in the box or vents. The oysters tasted weird and had juice dripping from them and the sweet potato fries tasted like just plain ol fries. I will not return to this place, I'll stick with with Skrimp Shack and accept that they are close on Sundays.

Food was Trash, the serving size was for a teenager, I would not recommend on a bad day!

First time visiting. I drove 35 minutes to get there, because there were so many positive reviews. Well, I'm not sure if those reviews were written by family members. Lol. The food was not great, nothing to brag about or a revisit. The fish and shrimp baskets had NO SEASONING and fish was over cooked. The place was clean and good customer service. The commercial got me there, good advertising, but I won't be back, SMDH!!
