I've only eaten here a couple of times so far, but so far for me, this inconspicuous little place at the scruffy Finsbury Park end of the Stroud Green Road, is a great addition to the local eating scene.
Offering something very different from the predominantly ethnic eating options in the surrounding area, Season is (perhaps predictably!) all about seasonal, British ingredients, with a modern approach that is thoroughly refreshing in this part of town.
The menu is (in my opinion) reassuringly brief, offering just 6 starters and 6 mains, and prices are reasonable, with most mains under £15. With the emphasis on what is in season, the menu changes regularly, and although portions aren't huge, I'd say this is all the better as it allows you to enjoy a full 3 courses, which I'd encourage, as the food has in my experience been largely excellent.
While not everything was absolutely spot on last (some slightly tough, but still very tasty, pigeon mildly let down a starter), I'd still encourage investigating some of the more adventurous dishes, and also the deserts which have been particular stand outs both times I've visited.
The wine list is similarly short, but interesting, and I thought very well chosen. Pricing is as you would hope for a neighbourhood restaurant - I think almost everything is under the £30 mark.
Service is friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the whole place has a subtly trendy vibe, but in such a way that my 70yr old (but younger acting) grandmother still loved it.
On my last visit three of us had 3 courses with coffee, aperitifs, a bottle wine and half bottle of desert wine (it's that kind of place, it makes you want to stick about) and it came in at just over £40 a head, which is an absolute bargain.
A real gem of a place, I'd encourage giving it a go, this is the sort of adventurous place warrants support from the locals, and is worth a bit of a journey if you fancy something a bit different, or a bit of a treat.
