20 Iconic Dishes That Define Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Yes, cream cheese on a hot dog often confounds outsiders, but nobody can convince us that it’s wrong. For the best version of a Seattle dog, seek out this cart that’s located near Pike and Broadway late at night. It’s perfectly salty, smoky, and grilled with the meat split down the middle so the flames touch every inch. Ordering one five cocktails deep into a Capitol Hill bar crawl is basically a Seattle coming-of-age story in sausage form." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley, gabe guarente

When we first contacted Pete he was super responsive and he was able to take King on July 4th weekend for boarding. As we did our research we realized this wasn’t a commercial place where they have a large amount of dogs which we really wanted for King We told him he had separation anxiety and said it wouldn’t be a problem. We also received updates from him throughout the day. Pete’s accommodation for late pick up was greatly appreciated since we were held up from our drive on the way to get him. Upon arrival, King looked super happy to see us, looked well rested and fine. Pete said he was a perfect dog and we really appreciate his words! We’ll definitely have Pete take care King for boarding and day care if needed. Thank you Pete!

My review is a bit… different, but this definitely affects customers. In summary: Pete is a field of red flags, and he is willing to leave your dogs in the hands of a total stranger so he can go off and party. I’ve sat on speaking up about this, since I live close to Pete and I don’t know what he’s capable of. I also wasn’t sure if he was still in business, but I finally saw his yard signs back up recently. He shouldn’t be allowed around women under 25, and he shouldn’t be responsible for animals. On Halloween of 2024, my roommate and I were on an early evening walk. We stopped in front of Pete’s home and business, because I saw his signage with contact info. I have loved being a dog walker and sitter for years as my second job, and I was looking for work. He heard us talking on the sidewalk in front of his house, and came out to see what was going on while he was on a phone call. I told him I’m a dog walker and sitter, etc. He initially seemed like just a very animated and friendly man. He quickly lit up, and asked me if I wanted to get paid very good money to stay in his house and watch all of his clients’ dogs for the night, because he wanted to go to this Halloween party and stay out until 2 AM. I was desperate for extra income and job leads, rent was due, and the weirdness wasn’t really hitting me yet, so at the time, I said yes. People, Pete was about to put your dogs in the hands of a complete stranger off the street, going off nothing but my word. Just so he could go party. I wonder what state he would have arrived home in at 2 AM… The story continues. He kept talking, and the more he talked, the more he went from “eccentric older guy who means well” to alarm bells and red flags flying everywhere. I’ve seen medical mania before, and he reminded me of that. I truly wonder if he was on something. At that point, I was internally panicking and figuring out how to get out of what I agreed to. I did NOT want to enter this man’s home, even with safety buddies. He told us about his dog walkers he hires, who seem to be all teenage and college aged girls. He somehow thought my female roommate and I were around that age, and he wanted to hire us (we are 35 and 40 years old.) Pete would NOT stop yell-talking for the longest time — he kept bringing up odd stories about partying, etc… in which he constantly spoke of women in very condescending and infantilizing ways, talked about their race for no reason, etc. He told us he had a 22-year-old girlfriend “a few years ago,” and he is solidly in his 50s or 60s. He was still on the phone and nearly ignoring his friend, the whole time. Eventually, Pete told us he’d recently tried to convince a group of former employees (college girls) to come work for him again, since he desperately needed reliable staff. (Jee, wonder why he struggles with that). He said they turned down his offer because they’d found financial success working on a certain popular adult content subscription site, and he proceeded to tell us details about the kind of adult content they produce. Wow. Why is this old man talking to very young adult girls about this stuff? And then telling us about it without our consent! What a CREEP. Normally I would have some serious words to say to a man like that… but I would have had to deal with looking over my shoulder all the time, since he is my neighbor. We had been trying to excuse ourselves to leave, and it took about four times (he even said he knew we were trying to go), until we practically had to force an end to the one-sided conversation and walk away. I kept telling him that I got his number from his sign, and that I’d text him about watching the dogs the second I got home. I BOOKED it down the sidewalk to my house, and texted him from a Google voice number (would never use my real one with him) that something came up, and that I was sorry I couldn’t sit that night. I was very okay with his lack of response!

Pete was an enormous help to us when I was having my baby.  He was willing to have a flexible drop off time, and he even said that he would leave his phone on in case the baby came in the middle of the night. When it was time, my dog (who had never met him) instantly liked him and was happy to be left at his house. Pete sent pictures of my dog having a nice time, and seemed genuinely happy to have my dog stay with him. He even gave my dog a toy to take home with us! Pete's services were above and beyond what I was expecting, he treated us like friends even though we were strangers. I am so happy we found him, and I would absolutely recommend him!

We needed a place for our reactive dog to stay for the day while went for a hike on a trail with many other dogs. Pete was responsive & communicative and sent us many photos of our dog. Thank you so much!!

Absolutely the most inhumane and unprofessional doggy daycare. Lets just say we didn’t end up leaving our dog at Seattle Dog Boarding but they charged us for the entire booking. So be forewarned… They make you pay upfront with no tour of the facility; which hindsight all makes sense as if you saw the rundown house and the folks that live there you wouldn’t leave your dog there either. Pete wasn’t there when we showed up to drop off our dog. No one answered the door, so we called Pete hoping we were at the wrong location. He had to call a “roommate” to come to the door. By that time, we already decided that we weren’t going to leave our dog there and politely asked for our money back. The roommate said we needed to handle with Pete who finally texted us and said there are no refunds but we could book for another time. I can see Pete asking for us to pay for the first day and reimbursing us the remaining amount but no he outright refused.

Such an amazing and stress free experience! We were expecting and didn’t really know how to plan for dog boarding. When I called to inquiry, I was met with ease free info and assurance that they’ll work with us and completely understand. We have two bulldogs, and when we picked them up they were both in good spirits. One of our dogs is a lot to handle. They seemed to have no issues and were very understanding. So grateful for Seattle Dog Boarding and allowing us to focus on welcoming a new baby girl while our dogs were in good hands!

So happy we found Pete and Seattle Dog Boarding to take care of our huge 7 month old puppy and our 15 year old dog. They are at such different stages in life and I never thought I would find someone to handle both of their needs. We just returned from a 10 day trip and both dogs were so well cared for and came home happy and healthy. The senior dog had space to chill and relax and the puppy had a blast playing with other dogs. Thanks you Pete and everyone at Seattle Dog Boarding for taking such great care of Cleo and Bear!

Worst doggy daycare experience of my life. Incredibly unprofessional and not to mention expensive, as a single day of daycare is $69 (which they make you pay up front with no tour of the "facility", which is just a rundown house). In addition, they don't make you provide proof of vaccinations. I dropped my dog off at the house. Pete wasn't there when I dropped her off, but his roommate was. This man didn't look like he should be around dogs. These dogs are our children, so if a man can't take care of himself then I'm not sure how I can trust him to take care of my dog. Incredibly unprofessional and off-putting. I knew in my gut something was off, so I returned 10 minutes later...she was alone in a house full of larger dogs she had never met before. There was zero staff inside. I had to call Pete so that he could find someone to return my dog to me. I waited 10 minutes for a "roommate" to emerge from behind the house took my dog and left immediately. This is an INCREDIBLY SHADEY place. It's dirty, disgusting, and probably a front.

Yelp
Booked a first time grooming appointment for my dog online. They did not see the request until after the date had already passed so they picked a random date/time and sent an email for us to show up. We drove 1.5 hours round trip in traffic just to show up to the house, ring the bell several times, no answer. Called and texted them 4 times, no response. We waited outside for 20 mins before driving home. There is a sign on the outside door. "Because of the heat wave, all grooming appointments have been cancelled." The sign gave no further info such as a date of closure or reopening. I received no call, text, or email that any appointment was cancelled. The heat wave ended yesterday and it was 72 degrees when we were waiting outside. Won't be returning.

Yelp
Great grooming, awful customer service. I booked an appointment for my dog online. My husband dropped him off with the groomer and was told that we'd receive notice when he was ready to go home around 3PM. At 3PM, I received a text message from the groomer letting me know that our dog would be ready in 15 minutes and stating "if you're paying with a card I need an email address please so I can send the invoice." My husband had also received the same text and I let him know that I sent my e-mail address to her already via text. When my husband picked our boy up, the groom job was wonderful! Around 5PM, I received a call from the owner asking "Are you the person whose husband picked up a small dog today?" When I confirmed, he asked whether or not we had paid for the service. I let him know that the groomer had already asked for my e-mail address to send an invoice. He proceeded to ask me for my e-mail address again or he could ask the groomer and I directed him to ask the groomer. I received an invoice that evening. Fast-forward to the next day, less than 24 hours later, I receive a phone call from the owner stating I hadn't paid my invoice yet. I let him know that I planned to pay it today. He then proceeded to tell me that I was supposed to pay it before picking my dog up. I responded that based on the text I received asking for my e-mail address to be invoiced, I was assuming they couldn't take payment at the place of business. He then raised his voice at me stating that "Well your husband LIED to my groomer because he said that he paid." I let him know that it must have been a misunderstanding because I had told him I had sent my e-mail address to be invoiced already. The owner continued to raise his voice and told me that it was a big deal because my husband lied and that I was being "flippant about paying." Why send a text prior to pick up asking for an e-mail address to send an invoice if I plan to pay by card? If my husband thought I had taken care of it, isn't it on the business to verify before handing the dog over? Why then call to ask if I'm "the person whose husband picked up a small dog today" rather than by name and then wonder whether a payment had been made or not? Lastly, if I'm on the phone saying that I'm planning to pay today, how is it appropriate to accuse my husband of blatantly lying and stating that I was being "flippant" when all he should have done is to ask questions and assume positive intent? I wanted to support a local, small business for pet grooming - especially in the COVID times, but this kind of "service" is unacceptable, rude, and absolutely the reason I will not be coming back.

Yelp
Took forever to get in contact with owner about prices and when I tried to go take a look to see if it'd be the right fit it seemed as though there were quite a few animals and very little help. Heard what sounded like yelling inside the residence as I approached but couldn't be sure. Won't be using the services here due to the above and what seems like maybe something else is going on there as well. With all the shadiness going on everywhere, I tried looking this business up on the BBB website and was unable to locate by this name, so not sure what to make of that. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

Yelp
Such great service! Was able to get in within a day of requesting an appointment. They were so great and so reasonably priced for full service de-shed and groom. Cheyenne even got a cute new bandana with her new spring look. Would absolutely recommend and will come again!

Yelp
The first time I booked with them was fine. The second time they went to Vegas the same day I was booked. On Sept 13 I booked over the phone, on sept 30 I confirmed over text and today I called and it went straight to voicemail. Texted and nothing. I went to the back (which BTW there are no locks protecting the boarding dogs) and after yelling for someone to come out, a guy came out and told me they haven't done grooming in 2 months and that just today they were going to Vegas!! Incredibly unprofessional. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES

Yelp
Booked with them but they never showed and wouldn't return my calls or texts asking why. I'm not sure what happened.

Yelp
YOUR DOG WILL GET OUT & WILL BE ABLE TO ROAM THE NEIGHBORHOOD. I live in the neighborhood & they let ppl's dogs get out pretty often actually. When I walk my dog I've seen at least twice in the last 6 months now where a pack of dogs have gotten out & are running & roaming the neighborhood. Yesterday all of the dogs in their care got out & I had to warm a woman walking her small dog that a bunch of dogs were headed her way. Luckily the dogs were friendly & myself & 2 other women were able to assist in getting the dogs back but I would be pissed if it were my dog just because it's not the first time they've had to go on a search mission for dogs in their care. I would definitely never get my dog groomed here or trust them in their care at all.

Yelp
My dog, Zelda, was groomed here a week ago and she looks great! They listened to exactly what I wanted and and she came back smelling great and with a perfect haircut. The price was really reasonable too! Will be bring her back here in a few months for another groom!

Yelp
Best puppy cut my dog has ever gotten!! Melinda was awesome and talented. I will definitely go back. I cannot recommend this establishment enough.

Kerri V.

Yelp
Booked online with Melinda. She did a perfect job of grooming on my Yorkie, asking questions prior about length of hair, special needs etc. She handled her gently and is an absolute professional. I would not hesitate to recommend her services to any of my friends.

Shannon K.

Yelp
Awesome grooming! I have a small dog (3lbs) and there was no other dog there and it only took 1 hour for a full grooming! Prices are a little higher than what I have seen at other groomers but pretty comparable (and worth it for the quality). My pup was very well groomed, smelled great and had a little bow in her hair. The groomer was so friendly and my puppy didn't seem as nervous as when we took her to other groomers. I definitely recommend this groomer and will be going back! :)

Yelp
We used to go over to Petco for our grooming needs but recently they've been doing a shotty job. This place is a bit more expensive but totally worth it! The scheduling and communication was pretty casual - all done via text. The grooming area is in the back yard of their house in a shed turned grooming salon. A nice little set up with what I think were the groomers own dogs running around in the fenced yard. I received a text message stating my dog would be ready in thirty minutes and a request for my email so they could send an invoice. I paid with my card via PayPal before picking her up. Everything was very simple and Melinda did an amazing job. Would definitely recommend and go again!

Yelp
Melinda did a wonderful job with our dog Geoffrey! He looks great and the service was efficient and friendly. Would gladly recommend Melinda.
