24-Hours Dining and Drinking Around Tomales Bay, California | Eater SF

"For exploring the backroads I rented a bike from the family-owned Sebastopol Bike Center, which makes it easy to grab a bike for a few hours or the whole day so you can pedal dirt roads or follow Highway 1 out to Bodega Bay." - Marisa Churchill

Google
Great shop, knowledgeable repair techs, affordable labor rates. No complaints, fantastic option for local bike service.

Julio A.

Google
Awesome little bike/rental shop! The bike was $40, it was a hybrid, and it rode like a dream. Highly recommend going out to the coast through Russian river if you've got the legs for the ride, it was a lot of fun. Check their website for fun routes.

Google
We came here when my daughters brakes failed on the bike trail. They were able to fix the brakes right away. On the way out my bike got a flat and they fixed that as well. Very friendly and great service. They saved our Saturday! My daughter even got a new bike bell.

David W. Z.

Google
Awesome shop! Had a brake issue while riding on the trail and Sebastopol Bike Center put us right in minutes! They didn't even charge for the repair so we bought a water bottle. Great people!

Google
These guys are kind of knuckleheads. I came in today, showed the kid behind the counter of the exact fit for a Bianchi road bike inner tube and tire, and asked them if they have rim tape that I could buy. They could have said that they don’t have it (I bought it in 5 minutes from Amazon in their parking lot). Instead, he said they can’t help me because they may make a mistake with the size. Incredible as it seemed after I gave it to them, I said I would take a chance. The senior guy then came out and said they have rolls of tape, and it would be easy to do, but they may not get it right. I just wonder what part of my willingness to take a chance they didn’t understand, and whether they listened to me when I gave them the size. Just because they weren’t straightforward with me for such a simple request, I will not do further business with them. I’m guessing they want to use their time for more lucrative requests.

Google
Really nice I think it's a family-run place I heard the kid called the guy dad very friendly and reasonably priced I would definitely buy a bike here

Google
I've meant to review this wonderful shop for ages, feel guilty! Today was like so many other visits: had an urgent issue and they took me in immediately and sorted me out. Huge thanks to Gino who has helped me like this SO many times, as has Denver the owner. They are always so friendly and have never failed to solve my problem quickly & efficiently. I feel so lucky to have a skilled LBS near me, especially one that always shows so much compassion to riders who need repairs quickly. Please give them your business for parts and service, you will not be disappointed!

Marc B.

Google
I'll speak candidly about the poor experience I had with whom I believe is the shop owner. Following a purchase of rather expensive tubeless tires and paying the parts and labor for the tire swap on my Niner gravel, the tires failed to maintain pressure. This condition persisted for several weeks at which time I brought the bike back and was met with strong resistance over their decision to charge full price for parts (sealant) and labor to correct the problem. I was treated like a 'dumb customer' who didn't understand that tubeless tires may, or may not, maintain sealant and pressure. Yet, the DT Swiss wheel set is designed for tubeless tires and the previous tires never had a problem like that. After spending over $200 on tires and the install, the owner rudely pointed out "I have to make money somehow" as justification for charging me twice for what most experienced mechanics would only have to do once. He also suggested that it was my responsibility to watch the tires after installation, as though watching them has any bearing on whether or not they were mounted and sealed correctly. He seemed to have no regard for the fact I had spent close to $50 and then another $38 for installing a pair of constantly flat tires. The expectation isn't for you to guarantee your labor, it's that you stand behind it and at least try to offer the customer a reasonable solution - which you didn't. Good luck with your policy on that :(

Yelp
Support your local bike shops!!! I love this bike shop as the owner, Denver, is knowledgeable & honest. He does not pressure the customers to purchase something they don't need (as some bike shops do). His prices are fair and repairs are done with efficiency. By the way- I looked at the few who gave a negative review & noticed they only write bad reviews- do not believe them!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
Good guys, attentive and they fix what needs fixing! I've bought in several different E-bikes and they did what needed to be done.

West C.

Yelp
Prompt service. Fair prices. If I took my mtb to SR they would have told me 2 weeks out (at least that has been my experience in the past). Glad to shop local.

Stan O.

Yelp
I have been going to Denver's bike shop since he bought the business. I ride both road bikes and mountain bikes 3-4 times a week and routinely go to his shop for maintenance and repairs. I have never been disappointed with the service, the price and especially the fast turnaround. He and his staff know what they're doing. Stan O Sebastopol

Yelp
We were in town to ride the local trails and my brake cable busted in their parking lot. We thought it was the perfect place to get a repair... WRONG. The guy seemed apprehensive but originally told us it could be fixed in an hour. We came back 2 hours later and he hadn't even started on my bike, and even worse he insinuated it wasn't going to happen. Why waste 2 hours of our time!? Seriously inconsiderate. But honestly, this guy literally doesn't care. They have prime real estate for a bike shop so apparently that grants them the right to be A-holes.

Yelp
Just picked up a new bike from Sebastopol Bike Center. It was one of their rental fleet that was never used due to Covid, so got a pretty good dea - $2,000 for a $2,500 bike! They've got a handful of newish and used bikes left. They seem to specialize in rentals, but with Covid, they've got a lot of extra bikes they are selling. They've got 2020 Scott Addict 10 full carbon bikes with Ultegra groupset and hydraulic disc brakes for $2,000. They've also got a sweet 2016 Cervelo with Ultegra Di2 electronic shifting for $2,400 in a 48cm, which is pretty nice. Plus lots of gear at discounted rates, jerseys, etc. Because I bought a bike, they even threw in an extra pair of shoes they had lying around. Great experience! I live in San Francisco, so it was a bit of a drive up to Sebastopol, but well worth it. The Bike Center is right on the Joe Rodota Trail, which is a long flat biking trail, perfect for testing out a bike (though no hills to test). And after buying the bike, we went across the street to The Barlow, an outdoor "mall" with several cool restaurants with outdoor dining. I'll leave a review for them, too - really great place to hang out. Point is - if you're a bit far from Sebastopol, it's worth a day trip!

Andy T.

Yelp
"Mrs. M" review is wrong. Customer doesn't know the difference between a cable and a hydraulic hose. It was explained to him that it would be a much bigger job than fixing a cable. Bike needed an entire new brake hose (runs inside the bike frame) all because someone else did a lousy job of changing their handlebars. Great shop! They do quality work ( not like whoever installed their handlebars). This customer created the problem then wants to blame someone else.

Yelp
Phenomenal service, 5/5 stars. My sons and myself have come into this establishment with our SE bikes several times for miscellaneous repairs. Prices are fair, service is helpful, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
My wife and I went in here looking for shoes for her. They had a terrible selection, and the guy behind the counter wasn't friendly. He also appeared pretty clueless when we were asking him basic questions. I'm not sure if he genuinely doesn't know very much or if he just wasn't really wanting to help us. Either way, we won't be going back.
google avatar

Paco N.

Yelp
We've had bikes repaired here over the past few years. Sometimes they were quite helpful, quick service, good prices. At least twice I've gone in for a repair and the person working there refused to talk about repairs, only new bike sales. Also, sometimes you can go in two consecutive days and get the opposite advice. It seems like a a great shop, but we won't go back.
google avatar

Maury C.

Yelp
This is a smallish, though we'll-stocked bike shop. 4 times out of 5 they have what I need. As their space is limited, so is their choice of bike brands..
google avatar

Yelp
I brought my Trek road bike in for a rear-wheel swap out and a brake job. They completed it the same day. $40. The guy who did it (so bummed I never got his name) was super-nice. I'm confused over the negative reviews. There is nothing wrong with this shop.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
I took my old mountain bike here and they brought it back to life. Excellent service at a reasonable price. So happy to have my bike fixed! Thanks SBC!

Yelp
during these times its always a good feeling to have essential businesses open. In this case our local bike shops..Went for a long ride and on the way back my back tire went flat..Called them and the owner was there and invited me to come right over. Great timing...He put the bike on the rack and found a nice long nail stuck in the tire...so much for puncture proof when it comes to those..He quickly replaced the inner tube and check to make sure the wheels were ok and got me on my way...I appreciated that he took the time to replace the wheel to make it fit properly and brakes were functioning....

Lily B.

Yelp
Went in today for a quick fix on my boyfriends bike. Amazing customer service. The man who helped fix my boyfriends bike was super helpful. Definitely recommend this place and will be coming back for future bike fixes! Thank you Sebastopol Bike Center!

Yelp
Well...well...well. Maybe I should have checked the reviews before coming here. You're going to want to read this!! Came across this shop and because we love supporting local businesses we decided to take a bike here for a tune up! Initial employee was pleasant and sold us tubes, then we found out that the bike needed new tires! So I brought this bike in on a Friday, same pleasant employee again! Bike was ready the next day, nice and quick. I pick the bike up Monday, different nice employee. BUT...no offer to put it back in the truck for me. Then I went to three places in Santa Rosa with it in my truck bed. Absolutely did not ride it or mess with it. I come out of my house and the front tire is completely flat and off the rim.... I call, they say come back.... The tube had a huge hole ripped in it, weird, not even that hot of a day. This other employee (never met him, German accent, apparently the guy some on here had a problem with) puts a new tube in and reseats the tire. He puts the wheel back on and spins it, comments that the wheel is really wobbly and says it wouldn't have been that way after a tuneup. AND THEN He starts hinting that "this couldn't have happened without someone putting a lot of weight on it." I told him it hasn't left the truck and I did not step on it or anything. He CONTINUED to say things like "maybe someone took a shortcut through the bed of your truck" Whaaat?! I kept telling him that nothing has happened to it. He said the tube popping and it just being in the truck couldn't have done it. After truing the tire and putting it back on AND too many snide comments about how this had to be my fault somehow he gave the bike back. Thankfully he didn't charge me and, of course, no one offered to put it in my truck for me. Left a serious sour note and I WILL NOT be coming back here. I don't suggest this shop

Yelp
The lady was extremely rude . The man was not able to work the point of sale system . They way overcharged a friend on bike repairs and would not return a bike seat in opened and in perfect condition. I really wanted to support our local shop . Run don't walk away from this shop . Horrible service and unprofessional
google avatar

Phillip C.

Yelp
At first rest stop on Wine Country Century, Denver was able to fix my gears (which had been slipping) by eyeballing a bent hanger and straightening it out- even without proper tool handy. Impressive! He was very kind and got me on my way. And now all my gears work!
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
Just wanted to tune my breaks and maybe change a pad, the guy wouldn't give me a clear answer about timing and was rude in general. That's the second time I went to the store after the first time where they did an unprofessional job tuning my bicycle. I just drove to 15 min away to another store and my bike is already fixed. Never coming back and I really tried and wanted to like that store. :(

Austin G.

Yelp
Spoke broke on my bike while out for a ride and made it to this place, got there and no one else in the store, 3 employees and the guy basically told me to kick rocks. Said they were backed up. I'm in my gear obviously stranded and he's saying he's not sure if they have the spoke etc. I borrow a tool to loosen my brakes and limp home. Never going back here nor should you.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place. They have excellent service and great rental bikes. we recently rented bikes on a family vacation and were impressed with their customer service. The rental bikes were comfortable and well maintained. They were great about offering local riding tips. They even stayed late one day so we could return our bikes late.
google avatar

david m.

Yelp
Quality bike shop, good service and friendly staff. We went in looking for a pump and they had several models to choose from. They know bikes!
google avatar

Craig O.

Yelp
These guys are great, fair, and trustworthy! Expertise in both old and new technologies. I had some difficult hard to diagnose noise coming from my full suspension mountain bike that they wouldn't give up on. They followed up with a part manufacturer, got a free replacement sent, all fixed and quiet again.

Jose Z.

Yelp
The German I dealt with was A big-time jerk said it would take too long to go find a part that I needed as they were closing and it was five minutes till five and he said for me to come back another

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Sloppy work on a tire fix then when I returned the owner (Denver) was unprofessional on the followup. He said he conducted a safety check (which I requested) yet the front tire was rubbing and the computer mechanism out of whack. He refused to tinker with it. I would avoid this shop.

Robert S.

Yelp
I have been searching for two bikes for six months. In additional I have built a whole full suspension bike from scratch in that time. I have made it a point to visit every bike shop within a hundred miles. I showed up on my bike this morning at the sebastopol store. Was greeted at the door and told they were closed. Said come back after noon. I rode home then rode ten miles back to the store. Just wanted to see what they got and make friends maybe buy a couple tools. We are all cyclists right? Nope. I was greeted at the door and told that I couldnt come in because they were too busy. I will never shop at this store and I will blackball this location to every avid cyclist I speak to. I felt highly disrespected and very angry. Worst customer service I have ever experienced

Jack H.

Yelp
Minimal inventory. Very small shop. Sells quality branded used bicycles. I wasn't sure if it was just me who experienced staff rudeness. But I see other posted reviews speaking of rudeness. I won't be going back to this store. I wanted to purchase an item but they didn't have the specific type so as I was leaving the guy asked if I was not going to buy & when I explained he gave me a sour attitude. Two star shop.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Still hate this place 10 months later. Will drive out of my way to go elsewhere. Avoid Denver and his shitty bike shop at all costs! Performance bicycle would be my recommendation.

Liz A.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable and friendly group. Gave my daughter a free reflector and valve cover for her little bike.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
Did not make any attempts to guarantee a warranty on a broken product that was brought back into the store now I'm taking time to call the company direct to get a replacement. Didn't even take the time to call the company horrible customer service.
google avatar

Billy H.

Yelp
I recently purchase a used bike ( the best bike in the world as far as I'm concerned, Easy Racer Gold Rush) and invested in several upgrades which I needed to be put on it. Denver at Sebastopol Bike center did a fantastic job for a reasonable fee and made the experience a pleasure. This place has it all: good inventory, people who know what their talking about, technical and mechanical expertise, and are passionate about this sport, great location (easy parking) and they do business like so many other companies in town that make you want to be in Sebastopol.
google avatar

Wayne K.

Yelp
I recently had my drive train cleaned and tuned. My bike shifts like new. When I went to pick up my bike, I found a yellow windbreaker on sale at a great price. The people here are friendly and eager to help.
google avatar

Rawbert N.

Yelp
I was on a bike tour from Seattle to SF in August and on my very last day of the journey, I popped two spokes on my rear wheel. Omar and Denver had me out of the shop pretty quickly and gave me solid directions on how I can make it to SF by dinner time. These guys are super accommodating too -- they had a line of bikes they were working on, but they quickly worked me in so I could finish up my ride and they gave me a super fair price.
google avatar

Raphael M.

Yelp
Good quality bikes and amazing service. Efficient and nice. Really get you on your way quickly with all the info you need
google avatar

Jacque S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were in town for the holidays and rented two bikes to see the local towns and wineries. These are the nicest rental bikes we've ever had the pleasure of riding. The service at the bike shop was excellent. If we didn't live far, I'd buy my next bike here!

Kat T.

Yelp
I went here for the first time a year ago and the experience was so amazing I knew it was a special place. The owners sincerely care about their customers and want them to leave satisfied, because they are good people. I returned again yesterday with my son and they were as welcoming as they were to me, if not more so! It was such a positive experience for both me and my son who I am trying to nurture a love of riding with. They literally went the extra mile for us. Janet thoughtfully understood my sons perspective and helped encourage his growth; Denver was super efficient and resourceful at working with his needs. Business owners like Janet and Denver are community builders. I hope to see them again soon!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Just bought my first bike in 40 years. It is a stunner of a mountain bike traded in by someone who upgraded to an Uber-Bike. A great day for everyone at Sebastopol Bike Center!
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
I drove from Oakland in rush hour traffic to pick up a bike they advertised on sale online. I arrived right at closing time and they still set the bike up to fit me and let me test ride down the trail near by. I'm super grateful, I've been searching for the right bike for months and I think I just found it. Thanks for being so nice guys! And for my killer new bike.
google avatar

Stuart C.

Yelp
Excellent experience working with the crew at the bike center. I rented a bike on vacation for 8 days, they fitted me gave me tips on where to ride and sent me off very prepared to ride a new area. Also, 5 days in I blew a tire and upon returning to the shop they set me up with a new kit free of charge to finish my stay. Great people and reasonable rates for rentals.

Sam B.

Yelp
Sloppy work on a tune-up - the breaks were rubbing and gears still slipping , even after I brought it back a second time for them to fix again.
google avatar

Tim J.

Yelp
I needed to get a flat fixed in a hurry and the owner had me in and out in 15 minutes and at a very fair price. I would not hesitate to have any service performed by this shop. Huge selection of new, used and rental bicycles, too!

Paula S.

Yelp
I've been very pleased with their service and honesty. Prices on acsessories and clothing are below what I saw at other shops.

Ellie R.

Yelp
Love Denver and his crew. My husband and I have been taking our bikes here since they opened. I buy my bike accessories here, have tune-ups done, and have had problematic tires repaired. They are really stellar folks.

Ruth L.

Yelp
We contacted Denver on Weds during a very busy week regarding road-bike rentals, routes and accommodations for riding on Friday and Saturday. We got top line bikes, custom fitting (and tweaking after the first day of riding), great routes and hotel. Very reasonably priced for these high-end services. Can't recommend highly enough.

S S.

Yelp
My husband and I have rented high end road bikes from these guys a couple of times. Bikes have been high quality and well maintained. They custom fit to your specifications and make adjustments on site. Excellent service, very friendly and helpful with area routes.
google avatar

Claude S.

Yelp
fast, friendly, fair-priced, and honest, for the repairs i needed on my old cruiser.

Michael M.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE! Went in to get two new tubes put in, no problem until I got home and one was flat already. Brought that wheel/tire/tube back in and immediately Denver tried to tell me that it couldn't have just gone flat without riding it. Long story short, he put a 2nd new tube in and guess what.. it pops while he inflates it. Then states my wheel tape is bad so he puts on "the best wheel tape" out there as well as a new tube which holds air this time. Then comes the charge. Initial bill= 1 tube cost (which popped before I got home) + 1 installation fee. Second bill= 2 tube costs (one which popped during installation, and one that held air like it should) + wheel tape cost + 1 installation fee (stated I was getting a deal by not being charged a 2nd installation fee for the one he popped minutes before). Now I'm no math major but that's 3 tube costs + wheel tape cost + 2 installation fees to get one rideable tire. Customer service skills or rational billing practices are nonexistent here, one star because I had to. Plenty of other shops, go elsewhere!!

Ken L.

Yelp
Wow! I was really impressed with this bike center. I called ahead of time to get prices. I was expecting it to be really expensive - or a place where they could charge you for every little extra :ex : helmets etc. But wow was I surprised! I rented a REALLY nice adult bike for an hour and it was only $15. But it gets better. I wanted my 4 year old daughter to be able to ride with me, so they added on the kid handle bar and pedal type trailer for FREE! Then we also got to use really nice helmets which they fitted us for FREE. My son was with me too and he has his own bike, so we didn't need to rent one. But the guys that worked there wanted to be sure that his tires were inflated right, so they checked and filled his tires and fitted his helmet on. The guys that work there REALLY CARE about people. It was so evident. They knew their bike stuff but didn't make a newbie (like me) feel dumb. I was really impressed. I give this 5 stars. The customer service was awesome! I appreciate that so much of the stuff was already included in the rental price... no hidden extras. Thank you for a super fun time with my kids. Oh also, the Joe Rodeta trail is right there by the bike shop. Super convenient! Thank you!
