Yelp
First, I can only comment on the Thanksgiving 2018 menu ($32) served from 7-8 p.m. on November 22. I had not been to Second Floor before then. Second, if you look at my review history, I seldom leave bad reviews on Yelp; I don't whine on social media, nor do I leave bad reviews unjustifiably.
I'm guessing the restaurant manager was on holiday, because we could have gotten a better Thanksgiving meal at a small-town diner, and the only reason we ate the food that came out of that kitchen is because we were ravenous, and the food was edible (enough). If I could do it all over again, I would have attempted to order from their regular menu.
The food: 1) the pumpkin soup was seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, and sweetened with maple syrup. And I don't mean a reasonable amount of maple syrup. I mean, it was half maple syrup, half soup, with no distinguishable amount of salt. It was served cold. 2) the main entree contained sliced turkey breast, sliced ham, stuffing, yam, cranberry dressing. It was served cold. 3) the dessert, pumpkin and apple tarts, tasted like they came from a budget grocery store. The tart crusts were undercooked, and they're obviously not trying to disguise the fact that they don't care to use natural ingredients, like butter.
Did I complain to the staff? No. Why? There was one server waiting on the entire restaurant, and as soon as we got a whiff of the food quality, we wanted to peel out of there as soon as we feasibly could. The server is counting the minutes before he gets to go home, and if the kitchen is willing to serve this quality of food for $32 per person, they couldn't care less that I could have had a better Thanksgiving meal at a diner somewhere, nor do they have the power to use quality ingredients. I'm leaving this review to get the attention of the restaurant manager, and other prospective Thanksgiving diners in 2019.
