Awesome Awesome Awesome... The mission, the people, the passion, the purpose... Being His hands & Feet is what we're supposed to do & be. Second Harvest gets it and does it well. Second Harvest receives donations and they also purchase food and distribute it to the masses. Various churches, ministries, schools, individuals, agencies etc are able to receive food directly from Second Harvest Food Bank. Talk about paying it forward. Thousands of pounds of food comes thru here daily & Second Harvest is trusted to get it out to various food pantries & individuals. The word NO, doesn't exist here. Never have I seen a more benevolent group of people that are ALWAYS going over & beyond to help a person/families/groups in need. This place is a haven goodness. The volunteers POUR in and give of themselves, tirelessly!!! The senior boxes alone total 19,000 EVERY MONTH and volunteers come in daily shifts to assist with packing those boxes. PLUS, Second Harvest also feeds hot plates to senior citizens, lunch for school aged kids, good for pantries & still manages to do food giveaways to the general public that don't fall into the aforementioned categories. This place is a god-send!!! They accept food & monetary donations; so if you're able, pay it forward, be good to those in need!!!

It's a great place to volunteer and meet wonderful people. You get a chance to help others; everybody's friendly and nice. There's no reason not to volunteer.

Great place doing really good things for the community. Everybody should regularly take some time and volunteer to help this organization.. Do so by donating food items or you can donate your time helping in the warehouse or in the kitchen to sort package or prepare food for people that need it.

They are committed to helping feed those in need across much of Louisiana. Volunteers work hard to help make this happen.

I had a blast. This was scheduled by my job and my co-workers really enjoyed ourselves, plus this helps others and was a rewarding day. Don't hesitate to volunteer it's fun and don't forget to eat a good breakfast!

Our church Volunteered on Saturday to help bag sweet potatoes. we did thousands of pounds of sweet potatoes into 5 lbs bags .

Went one Saturday with a group to volunteer. I always hear people talk about second harvest food bank but never knew where it was and what the volunteers did. It's located near the elmwood shopping center and there's different time slots you can sign up for. Once there you put on a name tag and the workers explain what the organization does and what the volunteers do. Some people unload products of the pallets, some work the conveyor belt putting items in boxes, others break down the boxes, and etc. They play music and the time passes by pretty fast. They also offer water and breaks if anyone needs it. At the end they told us we packed about 800 boxes and it was cool to know that we were able to do that. I would volunteer again in the future. They even had doughnuts at the end which was nice especially since we went early in the morning. I would say to carpool if it's a large group as there aren't a lot of designated parking spaces.

Volunteering here is something I plan to do regularly. Today, we packed hundreds of boxes for the Srs Box program. The quality of food included in the 30# box was better than expected; I would eat everything we packed! Great value! The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, & made everyone feel welcome.

Always helping those in need. They need more volunteers and donations to keep up the good work

This food bank is not adequate to feed the multitude in the community. You go there and they give you enough for one day and it is suppose to last you a whole month. They blame the shortage of food on the Donald Trump Presidency Campaign for not having any food to go around. Next time I go which is only the second and third week of the month and they are not specific about times and dates. If my phone is working I will take pictures of what they give you to eat for a whole month. Two cans of black beans, some grits, a couple pieces of fish, and some raisins. Not good enough for the families in the community.

I believe that Second Harvest does many wonderful things for the community there is one area that they have "dropped the ball" on. I'm referring to the monthly Food Box for Seniors program. This had been operated by the Catholic Charities until being switched over to Second Harvest. I had been taking several of my neighbors, and picking up for more of them on the monthly "box runs." When the switchover was announced, the message was " no changes in the program-it will take a month to change over, and everything will be the same. The box recipients were supposed to get a call or some type of notification about when and where the program would be starting back up. Two/three months later, no word on the process. I've tried to call about it and got a person in New York who did not really know what was happening. She gave me an additional local number to call, and I have, without any call back with info. Of the five people that I was helping, none can drive. They relied on the boxes to help them make it through the month without going hungry.

I've been acquainted with the Second Harvest for going on 30 years. I never realized the extent or their outreach and assistance, until I became a senior and in need of assistance. I can say that reaching an age where life itself is a struggle, and having an organization such as Second Harvest to show up with a box of food, helps more than most can imagine. When people have their EBT cut to $23.00 Shopping and a eating right becomes difficult. They even started delivering inside the building I live in because not everyone could make it to them outside. The people they employ are always so cheerful and nice and helpful. Because some residents can't always make it downstairs to them and they always bring it to those. I never thought that I'd be at this end of what I knew of Second Harvest, but I know now that what I thought I knew of them didn't scratch the surface of their generosity and service. Thank You

Second Harvest is doing great work for the citizens of South Louisiana. This location is one that prepares the food items for distribution at their various giveaway locations. I've volunteered here on different occasions and it is a various humbling and rewarding experience. It is a great place to give back and earn volunteer hours if you need them. They count heavily on volunteers to complete their mission. If you have some time, register to give them a hand, they have volunteer opportunities at this and other locations throughout the week.

I can't believe that I'm the only person who has reviewed this essential service... so I guess I'll re-review 11 years later. This is the primary food bank in the GNO. They offer food distribution, hot meals, assistance with finding food services, and a host of other services. If people need food in our area, they try to feed them. If you have some extra money, toss some their way. They are working to help everyone right now.
