Stopped here after being tourists in the city. Wish we had found it earlier in the trip bc we really enjoyed our short visit there. We had great customer service and also enjoyed some delicious guacamole from their neighbor, Tamale Boy Russell.

The staff is super courteous and the environment is beautiful and quaint. The beer is really delicious and unique. Didn’t plan on stopping in but there is a really good Hawaiian place we wanted to try. Two restaurants and this bar are all connected and I love it!

•July 2024• beautiful interior with ok beers. Nothing was amazing but still pretty good. Staff were really friendly

Waw what a space! Kuddos to the designer! Good chill out music! And happy I could get wine, rose, there! Nice temperature, tiny bit of breeze but not too cold, to hide from heat wave outside!

Google
This pub is a delight. The perfect place to get out of the grey skies and enjoy good beer in room full of life and color. Plant and beer nerds rejoice! Our pub pup Rosie also appreciated the rare opportunity to be invited inside. I loved my comfy spot by the window and the Charlie Brown Ale.

Google
Hip little spot on the corner serving up 7-10 beers and German style bar food. Had the Zest Friends Forever (Grapefruit IPA) and it was alright. Also had the lager and mocha porter and they were both pretty good, nothing to write home about, but enjoyable to say the least. We ordered the pretzel with cheese and mustard, damned delicious! Then proceeded to order the Mac n Cheese, somewhat of a standard mac, yet with tasty breadcrumbs and green onions. It was really good, especially after a few beers! The service was excellent! Both gentlemen working today around 3pm were great employees and made the visit all the more fun! Thanks! Best, ~S

Google
Excellent! Nice selection and variation of beer. Gose, pale ale and Japanese lager. Plus more! Had their hoppy pale and it’s perfect and refreshing on a warm sunny day! Got the beer pretzel accompanied with the beer cheese! Amazing and the mustard is excellent too! They have a nice selection of patio seating and it’s off a side street from sandy so it’s not loud or too windy. Large space inside that’s bright and welcoming as well but if it’s sunny in Portland... go outside!! Also service is muy buenooo! Cheers!

Google
Great people, fantastic beer! I'm so excited to have my art hanging at their brewery!

Yelp
The ambiance and service are great! And it's so perfect and easy that Tamale Boy is right next door and you bring that food in to go with your beer.

David K.

Yelp
Friendly staff, lots of nice regulars, cool art, delicious food from next door, tasty tasty beers. What's not to love?!
google avatar

Jeannie D.

Yelp
This place is beautiful! I felt right at home! Clean airy and full of plants! Super nice, helpful bartender with a laid back vibe matching the ambiance. Didn't try the food - we got stuff from tamale boy next door, thanks for allowing that. I'm stoked to revisit this spot (please get more N/A beer (;

Yelp
What a cozy, friendly, clean and comfortable spot to enjoy lunch and a drink or two! We came into Portland which is always a little dicey, and went out of our normal stomping grounds to try Tamale Boy on Russell. We discovered that Second Profession Brewing is right next door and Tamale Boy will bring your food to you there, so we took advantage of that. Friendly welcoming service, good drinks and a VERY clean, pleasant and stylish place to enjoy our food. We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
I really liked my beer experiences with Second Profession Brewing. It looks like they moved not in the too far distant past because they have two Yelp entries. One is for the current address and the other entry is for where they were. But have no fear. Google Maps will get you to the current location for this brewery and the review I am dropping is for the current location as well. I simply loved the atmosphere of this taproom with it's glass decor back behind the bar along with their plants, lighting and the cork wall was pretty awesome to look at too so on atmosphere very high marks for making their space interesting and fresh looking. The beer was also very good! I did kind of a Mexican theme with my beer and got their Calaca Mexican Lager and their Horchata Cream Ale. The Mexican Lager wasn't too bad but I like my Mexican Lagers either to have a very noticeable breadiness to them or have some lime inserted I to their beer recipe or what would be even better w[uld be ages in tequila barrels. I was however very won over with the Horchata Cream Ale and the complexity that went along with it. It was smooth but had a little bit of a spiced kick which made me enjoy it all the more. Definitely a worthwhile stop and a pleasant beer experience while out and about in Portland, Oregon.

Yelp
Bryant is the best!! Great spot for a good micro brew and great conversation. Love the atmosphere.

Yelp
Great beer with 16 taps all brewed in house. Amazing food partners, and great service. The environment is warm and inviting with plenty of design elements to keep you looking for new details that are sprinkled throughout the space.

Melissa D.

Yelp
Not sure what this place is all about. All of the beers have a gnarly aftertaste that's something like chapstick and cleaning solution. The place is beautiful inside and the plants and wall art are stunningly beautiful. It's just that..... the beer is bad. We tried four beers. All of them were terrible and we didn't finish any of them.

Yelp
I really liked this place. We came in with a Groupon on a Friday night since we were in the neighborhood and looking for some drinks before dinner. It was pretty busy and smelled absolutely amazing - the source: GARLIC fries. We had to get some, along with our flight and two pints. The fries took a while to come out - a lot of people were waiting for food too - but we had a good time sipping our beers and watching the movie playing up on the wall. It was pretty quiet as far as breweries go - no super loud music. It was perfect for a chat with my partner and would be good to take older folks to as well. The fries were as delicious as they smelled. The portion was pretty big and came with great sauces - I love curry ketchup. The beers we tried were tasty. We both really liked the farmhouse ale and the saison. We will be back, when we find ourselves in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for the first time today. Michael, the bartender, was super friendly and knowledgeable and fun to chat with. I really liked their beers. My favorites were their dark saison and IPA. I liked their sour as well but preferred a slightly higher gravity and tart sour. The overall ambience was pretty chill and open. I liked the music, though it could be a bit loud at times. Their food was very good. I had a make-your-own bratwurst with added caramelized onions. The brat was perfectly cooked and juicy. Their curry ketchup was delightful and had good tomato flavor. I felt like I had too much relish and know to get it on the side in the future. Their warm German Potato Salad was super tasty with lots of visible mustard grains which I enjoy. I had a good time and look forward to coming back!

Yelp
IPA and porter pretty much tasted similar to one another, as well as my wifes beer. They must like that certain specialty malt. You will never know if they serve food, as menus are hidden behind counter. Outside patio is actually seating on the adjacent sidewalk. This whole place seems awkward and put together in a hurry. The ham sandwich on the special menu, was totally awesome, though. I'll give them time before I go back. Yes, they have Wi Fi.

Yelp
My first time visit was impressionable. First, the interior looks like they cut some corners or didn't expend much effort to make it look different from the previous tenant. At least add some color to the drab white walls. The potato cakes were much better than expected, a good potion for $7. And the Rye IPA Cheddar soup was rich, the bacon and croutons make it a winner. The Onion Soup was just okay. The C.B.C was borderline bad, but given that it's the most expensive item on the menu, I'd rate it terrible. They're following the growing trend where you stand in line to order drinks and food, lame IMO. First, it often deters people from ordering another round, plus tips are reduced. They are IPA and Ale heavy which is too bad for me as I'm partial to wheats, darks, and fruit-based. Sigh. This has been a tough spot for businesses and I don't really see a unique grab that will pull-in customers. Hope they make it. Wednesday night trivia is kick ass!

Yelp
On our 2017 adventure to every single Portland Brewery, we asked ourselves, "will we ever come back?". With nearly 70 breweries in town the answer was often no. After halfway through our 1st beer at Second Profession, we Started talking about our return visits. The art on the wall is beautiful. Cool designs of local mountain views. The beers are delicious. The service was great. The brewery was easy to get to from the bus. Even though there are only a couple of beers on tap and the food menu is limited, everything is so well done. Tasty German sausages and thirst quenching pale ales. See you soon Second Profession!

Erik J.

Yelp
The beer was great, I had a farmhouse ale that paired great with the Hawaiian food next door ( I went to the Russell street location next to Tamale Boy and Smokin Fire Fish) the owner is a super cool guy, I talked to him for the majority of the hour and a half or so I was there. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Absolutely delightful microbrews in a city full of breweries. Why go here? -Six solid choices of microbrews- brewed onsite -Marks Morning Elixir! You like Porter? Well this one is a must try with a robust punch of espresso. Perfect for dare I say: day drinking or to sip at the end of evening. Seriously delicious. Tried the taster tray & top 3 tastes: White wedding IPA, Sundance Kid Saison, ordered a pint of myBeth the hands down favorite-Marks Porter). -Light & bright space with lots of windows, comfortable booths, and plants. -Super nice beer tenders. -Convenient private parking. Just thirsty for beer this trip but the food looked very tempting. Next time...

Yelp
I found the beers a bit bland for my taste but received good service from the employee there! Nice place to drink in (did not eat) but won't go back just because of the so so beer. Don't skip it just because of my review, it's worth trying and seeing for yourself (unless you like full body or bold beers).
google avatar

Yelp
Ok.....good stuff. Yummy beers and awesome food. Our charming man slave waiter was very attentive. Had the Brauts and all the toppings. My wife had the Mac and cheese which was the bomb. I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
We enjoyed a couple of their beers while grabbing a snack at Arrowood when we were shopping in the area (they are located in the same location as that restaurant). They had a handful or so of their own beers to chose from. The Hubs had either a stout or a porter, I don't recall, but it was quite good. I had their sour ale, which had a nice hint of orange in it and it was definitely pucker-worthy. The folks were nice there, too.

Yelp
NEW FOR 2018 - OPEN AT NOON! So it's been a few months and they've made some changes, including happy hour, trivia night and some menu adjustments, but the best new thing is that they open at noon now. They're still closed 2 days a week but the change should be good as that was the number 1 complaint I heard from other folks trying to visit. The rest of my review remains mostly accurate, they're pretty popular in the 'hood so get on down and check it out.

Yelp
I love the enthusiasm of the new owner/brewer and staff! They are pleasant, and really believe in the PNW brewing subculture and community. We came here on the first night, and while the beer was great, we were a bit disappointed with a few of the food items. Of course we understood that they would have growing pains, and we have been back several times now. Each time the service and food gets better exponentially. The beer selection has grown, and each new addition is fantastic. They are taking the right approach with slowly expanding the selections. Happy to see these guys thrive! Hope it just keeps getting better!! On a personal note, I do agree that a bit more on the walls, or a few more lighter brew options would be great, but that's just a personal opinion. We will continue to frequent this local joint!

Yelp
MMMMMmmmmm ... Burgerrrrrrrrrs! Great house-brewed beer and tasty grub. This place just gets better and better every time I visit. Cheers!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun local bar. We have just started coming Wednesdays for trivia and the rotating mac n cheese. Decent selection of beer...as long as I can get a porter or stout. The staff remembered and greeted us when we arrived which was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place and their beers were great! But...we went for their advertised family night and: Good: - great beers - garlic fries and pretzel were delicious! - $1 kid menu on Thursdays Needs work: - Only had 1 bartender & 1 cook working, so it took almost an hour to get our food (and the pub was only about 1/4 full). I felt bad for the staff- they seemed to be doing the best they could. - They were out of 3/5 of their entrees on the menu, and the side salad and main salad were both the same size- small. - It was 'family night' but they don't have kid-friendly drinks other than water, and they only had large glass pints, so bring your own cup/straw for littles. I hope to go back for just an adult night for beers, and I really hope they improve the family & food aspects.

Yelp
This place is great. Great beers, excellent food that pairs well and isn't just fried pub food. We had the kielbasa sandwich, the cascadia plate and the Ruben. All enjoyed thoroughly. The wet bandit was my favorite for the day. Good stuff they are brewing here. Also the shut the box game is a great social game, and props for bringing in classic games to play at a bar.
google avatar

Yelp
This the spot that BTU had before they went under. We were glad the place had opened and were hoping it would be good. Unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. They may have been too high. I am not an IPA fan, so a list that concentrated on that style of beer does not fulfill my needs. Further, the menu is German, so we were shocked to see no German style beers. I have never been to an Italian Restaurant that did not have Italian wines. If the food was German, the at least some of the beer should be in that style. We both had curry wurst. They do a good curry based sauce. The sausage was warm. It came with a pretzel bun. The potato salad was nicely cooked, with just the right amount of vinegar. It was also warm. A good sandwich needs the right beer. The pairing here missed. Enjoyed the sandwich, but ...

Yelp
My husband and I chose this brewery to buy a keg from for our wedding and we couldn't be happier with the choice. They were incredibly affordable, had wonderful quality, and had wonderful customer service. We met the owner and he gave us a tasting himself and we got to enjoy a sample of the beers they offer. The sour beer they make is amazing and it's honestly the first beer that I've truly loved but we went with a lager for the wedding because it'd be more appealing to a larger crowd. Everyone at the wedding really liked the beer and the pick up and drop off process was super easy!

Yelp
I don't see how this place can last very long in the Portland beer market. Very limited options for food to soak up the beer. The items we tried weren't impressive- fries were decent, Cascadia(?) plate wasn't a great deal, and obviously not on their website menu. Pickles were not good, kielbasa was decent, beer cheese was below average. Taplist was also not updated online. Beers were below average in Portland. they might hold up in a smaller or less mature market, but not compared to much better examples of IPAs, and sours/kettle sours up and down Sandy, let alone the rest of the area. Space is too big for the current operation, with fairly spartan surroundings. At least they have a couple of TVs. Nice service. Just kind of not well put together or organized. Potential for survival, but not without a change.
google avatar

Yelp
Checking out the Portland microbrewery scene. I found a cool deal on Groupon when figuring out what I should do as part of my travel/touring. I love that they have vegan options for food. I love the story on why/how this place began. I chatted with the owner for a while, super cool dude. I highly recommend. I had a flight of all the things that weren't IPA's stuck with the Starry Night Belgian the rest of the night. I also had the vegan option Wurst. Yummy.
google avatar

Kara H.

Yelp
This is a nice addition to the neighborhood! The beer is decent, although the selection is small (a few beers plus a few nonbeer options when I went). I'm guessing that'll expand once they've been open longer. The food - typical pub fare like sausages, fries, potato salad, beer cheese soup - was alright too, and they have gluten-free bread options if you need them. There isn't a whole lot to set Second Profession apart or to make it a standout at this point, including prices (my sausage was $11 and the beer was $5.50). But if you're in the area and looking to grab a beer in a setting with a very laid-back vibe, this might be your spot!
google avatar

Becky S.

Yelp
Friendly staff and patrons...I don't drink beer so I can't comment on that here. I do play Bingo there once a month have a great time and enjoy the company. The German potato salad is wonderful, the Kale salad is as well, I found some of the other menu items too greasy for me to digest...I wish they would have something as simple as a turkey sandwich for us older folks who have developed more sensitive stomachs... If you are looking for a no-frills good down to earth establishment with friendly attentive staff (and good beer I hear) this is the place!

Cameron M.

Yelp
Loving this new brewery in my neighborhood. The house beer is solid with several IPAs and a nice farmhouses ale. The menu appears to be German inspired with a lot of very tasty sausage. The prices are on the inexpensive side and service is wonderful. I have been several times and I think this is just a very nice place to grab a beer at the end of the day.
google avatar

Carrie W.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and were so excited to see a new brewery move into this spot. It's become our go-to Sunday afternoon/early evening treat. The standout feature is the customer service. The last few times we've been there, the bartender/server has been so attentive and friendly. The busboy as well went out of his way to inquire about our experience. They were super busy today and the bartender was excelling at keeping a smile on everyone's faces. The beer and food are wonderful and the atmosphere so relaxed. Highly recommended spot!!
google avatar

Des M.

Yelp
The place is a lot bigger than I thought! Very friendly service, beer was great and the Mac and Cheese and sausage alone would make me want to go back. Great addition to the neighborhood!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Yay! So excited that this place is finally open. This is yet another great addition to the Roseway neighborhood! Food wise: We had the garlic fries, kale salad, and potato salad-- all of which were great! The beer list is very small but I'm assuming that might expand as time goes on. I was able to try the Ale and IPA, I enjoyed both! They also have cider available. My husband actually contacted them about getting gluten free beer and to our surprise, THEY DID! They're still very new but I have high hopes for this place! Check it out if you're in the area!
google avatar

William P.

Yelp
I think the name is very appropriate... because only someone who is getting into the restaurant biz as their second profession could possibly believe that they will succeed being open for 6hrs a day 5 days a week. The beer is really good! Perhaps my favorite rye IPA out there, And the food is excellent! The Bratwurst on a pretzel roll with house kraut and beer braised onions is probably the best Brat in the city.... But again, the limited hours are crazy! In the winter, it's dark outside before they even open. And no daytime hours on Sat, and Sunday? If anything the food menu lends itself more to a lunch / happy hour type place, yet they don't even open till 4pm on top of being closed mon and tue. If not for the hours (or lack there of) this would be 5stars all the way!
google avatar

Drayton C.

Yelp
This was a wonderful experience all around. If you are in the area, a stop here is a must! I walked in and sat at the bar and was greeted immediately by the bartender. He was extremely nice and helpful. They had 4 IPAs on tap that were all amazing. I really loved the rye IPA and their dark IPA. Both were amazing! The friendly bartender turned out to be the owner and brewer there and he went out of his way to make things a great experience. Over all it was a fantastic experience and the Ruben sandwich with potato salad I had for dinner was fantastic as well. It is Just a great little spot and a great crew there. Thanks for a wonderful experience and Keep up the good work guys! If you are thinking about stopping in for a beer. Stop thinking and head down there!
google avatar

Hayley H.

Yelp
Excellent IPAs and a great menu with a little something for everyone. The Dirty Fries were the perfect snack to munch on while I worked for a couple hours. I can't wait to go back and try the salads, plus I love that they let you sub a vegan sausage on any of the menu's sausage-based entrees. To top it all off, I received incredible service from Michael, the beertender/server. He encouraged me to try the rye IPA in addition to the the hazy IPA that I ordered, and I was very impressed. I will absolutely return with friends worthy of this place!
google avatar

Teresa O.

Yelp
Solid Northwest Brewed Beer and authentic German Food! Including Curry Wurst, Fondue and Sauerbraten! Order at the bar and they deliver. Affordable Friday date night, $50 for two, including 2 beverages!
google avatar

Mindy S.

Yelp
This was an unexpected surprise. Really really good brews. Food was quality. Garlic fries were so good! I wish I lived closer in! Authentic and friendly.
google avatar

Bong J.

Yelp
It was OK. Since it was the closest brewery nearby us we stopped by. Alot of the good beers that I really wanted to try was all out so I got a flight to try different beers. It was OK. They had board games which is cool. I didn't like the fruit flies flying all over the place. Will I be back? Would not be my first choice.
google avatar

Jordan G.

Yelp
I've been coming to Second Profession Brewing since it's opening and the progression has been a very fun thing to watch! The menu started off with just a handful of food items or beer options - what you would expect from a new and upcoming brewery. Being a beer lover from Portland, what surprised me the most was that you could stack up any of the brews to the best in the NW. Today the food menu is expansive and there are options for anyone's liking! I would recommend checking this place out. The environment is great and if you go on Wednesday's there is trivia.
google avatar

Jeanette F.

Yelp
We stopped by for happy hour and ended up staying for trivia... We had so much fun! Glad to see that they changed their menu to include more options... And their macaroni and cheese was so incredibly yummy!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Awesome place! Great beer - the hazy ipa is one of the best in town. They have a CBD IPA as well. Outdoor seating is dog friendly, and their food is good to boot.
google avatar

Corrie H.

Yelp
So, we went on Zwicklemania, and the brewery tour was... okay. The beer was... okay. But the food was surprisingly awesome! We loved the fries with the curry ketchup and house-made aioli. And the fondue was super credible. The service was very sweet and attentive. So, yeah, I'll go back, mostly to get a curry ketchup fix.
google avatar

Meghann K.

Yelp
I've been in here a few times now and have not been disappointed. Friendly staff, great beer and yummy food!
google avatar

Yelp
Beers and food are solid. Bingo on Sundays nights is a nice end to the weekend. They have been open for about 9 months now and slight changes/adjustments since opening have all been for the good. New beers and some menu additions are coming our way from what I was told last time I was in. Plenty of easy parking is available.
google avatar

Tyra B.

Yelp
Great new brewery in NE! The patio/sidewalk area is perfect to bring along the pup. The Mac and Cheese is amazing!! The beer is delicious as well!
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
I'd gone here before when it used to be BTU Brasserie and was a bit bummed that BTU closed but happy to have another brewery open in it's place. Their beers are decent. I've only had the Rye IPA, Grand Cru, Brut IPA & Grapefruit IPA. The Rye & Brut were just ok, Grapefruit was nice and refreshing and the Grand Cru was excellent. Also had the mac & cheese which was really good. They have bingo on Sunday nights which was packed and really fun. Hope this place succeeds as it's nice to have some options in NE for beer.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
Good beer and food, although the food menu is somewhat limited. Service is unfailingly friendly and decor is nicely minimalist.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Found a groupon and decided to try it out. Food was DELICIOUS. Kale salad dressed perfectly, dirty fries with lots of tasty toppings and the sausage with added corned beef and onions with warm potato salad on the side. My fiancé tried the beers...was pleasantly satisfied. Definitely going to be back to try out more options from the dinner menu....oh, and great service!
