The Latest New Orleans Restaurant and Bar Closures of 2023 | Eater New Orleans

"I reported that Secret Birria, the counter‑service taco shop at 323 Octavia Street known for an abbreviated menu of birria tacos, ramen, birriaritos, fried fish tacos and more, ended its mysterious two‑and‑a‑half‑year run with a final service the week of June 22–25." - Clair Lorell

Secret Birria Opens Uptown Under a Veil of Anonymity | Eater New Orleans

"Operating under a veil of mystery at 323 Octavia Street, I found a takeout-focused spot where beef birria is slow-cooked for over five hours in consomme and served three ways: mozzarella-topped tacos on flour tortillas with onion and cilantro and a side of consomme for dipping; a burrito with rice, beans, pepper sauce, white queso, onion, and cilantro (also served with the dipping sauce); and birria ramen. The menu also includes queso and cracklins, roasted shishito peppers, fried fish tacos, and a chicken burrito. Quietly operating since November 2020, Secret Birria opens Thursday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., offers online scheduled pick-ups from a takeout window (with benches out front and a handful of outdoor tables), employs a six-person staff, and intentionally keeps its owner anonymous — the proprietor embraces a masked, luchador-inspired identity on Instagram while the cat appears unmasked." - Clair Lorell

We walked in this evening to a crew of lovely young women working left-and-right while being incredibly friendly. All the while their A/C unit was out and they just powered through like champs. This establishment gets an automatic 5 star rating on that alone. But the food happened to be excellent! Definitely get the Cracklins with Queso! Can't wait to eat there again!

New kid on the block bringing Birria meat to New Orleans! It's kindve hidden, given the name, but it's quite a good place for a meal! Chicharrones were honestly probably my favorite part of this meal. The Birria items, IMO, were a bit short on the flavor aspect. I ate here the day it opened, so I will give it another try as they settle in. @phidingthefam

Super disappoint. Waited an hour, which is ok, I know food takes time. The birria ramen had almost no meat, bland. The queso was bland and lacked seasoning. The birria tacos, ordered by my better half were ok, but otherwise unremarkable. I hope this place does well, but I won't be back.

I really want to give some constructive criticism. The meat in the birra was very tender and falling apart. But the flavor profile is just incomplete. Its a bit bland. It could definitely use some spice as well. Maybe add an option for diffent levels of spicy sauces to add. I'd also give the option of corn tortillas instead of just flour. I love the idea of Birria Ramen, but the execution just wasn't there. The flavor should be more fusion. It was just pretty bland and the noodles were way overcooked. The seating is outdoor only which is fine. But it just looks like a back alley with a TV. It could use some fixes to make it look more welcoming. Also some heat lamps since its getting cooler. I really want this place to succeed but I was honestly a bit disappointed.

Loved the flavor of their birria! The birria ramen didn’t satisfy as much as I wanted it to.

This place is amazing! We got some of the tacos, cracklins, beans and rice. I can't finish my tacos cause I couldn't put the rice and beans down long enough. The pepper sauce is some of the best salsa I've had since moving here from San Diego, will definitely be going back there regularly! Highly recommend!

Finally got to visit this little gem yesterday evening. Fully impressed and will be going back!! Everything was tasty!! The birria tacos were filled with tender meat, good sized, and perfectly seasoned for dipping into that yummy consome’. The cracklings were surprising light and fluffy and held onto that flavorful queso like they were best friends. I also had a fish taco, which was good and filling, but nothing compared to the other items. And you can’t beat the friendly service and BYOB policy!! Thanks for the experience SB!!

The fish taco is now my go-to fish taco! The sauce and so yummy and everything was perfectly fried. The Birria was super flavorful - we may have dipped everything in the consome it's SO good. :) Cute spot too, very cozy!
