This restaurant is the real deal - authentic, delicious Malaysian food made by the chef/owner who is from Malaysia. The Malaysian classics such as char kway teow, nasi lemak, and laksa use ingredients and cooking techniques that are rooted in Malaysian cuisine. This is not a restaurant that is serving Americanized Malaysian food. The menu does have a section of Americanized Asian food such as kung pao/orange/mongolian beef/chicken etc. If you've never tried Malaysian food, this can be a good starting point. But after eating at his restaurant for years, I have become good friends with the chef/owner, and he has gradually introduced me to the beautiful and bold flavors of Malaysian cuisine. I see a lot of recent reviews complaining about price increases and smaller portions. It is unfortunate that some changes are being made, but this is the nature of operating any restaurant during a time of rampant inflation and skyrocketing food costs. I encourage anyone who is considering eating at Secret Recipe for the first time to meet the chef/owner because his passion for what he does and the service he provides is unmatched.

I have been to this location many times but I just realized I never reviewed the place although I think I have reviewed the place in Carrollton. Whenever we travel and we are able to stop in the DFW area, we try to stop by and Plano Secret Recipe is my favorite. Food is pretty close to authentic and if Alex is around, he never fails to stop and say Hello. We love the food so much that we had lunch there and also took some home for dinner.

Google
Nice spot for excellent tasty Malaysia food, huge menu with lots of choices. It was a nice comforting environment and it's self serving. We will be back to try the other specialties.

CECRET RECIPE is a restaurant that, the first time you step in, there is nothing special, difficult to impress to return. But not! Order food and wait. You will enjoy dishes with a delicious and delicious taste. The price is quite reasonable (or rather, quite cheap compared to what you enjoy from the restaurant). When you step out of the restaurant, you'll turn around and say: great job! We will be back.

Google
This place was great! The menu is a little intimidating with about 20 pages but the nasi lemak with chicken curry was amazing. Oink oink! The food was really great and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.

Google
Truly authentic! Goat rendang eats like it's been simmering for over a day, great flavour, great spices. Was expecting the stir fried water spinach to be a bit spicier but thats just a personal preference. We added the prepared sambal sauce that was available and that lifted the dish. Fried Indian mee has wok hei but could do without the peppers...again that might just be the way the locals like them here. You won't get that from mamak stalls in Malaysia. This restaurant is an interesting find for us and for it to offer authentic Malaysian fare, we would highly recommend. We will definitely be back to try other dishes!

Google
Tried their curry, satay, laksa, soft shelf crab, Tom Yum etc. My favorite were Chee Cheong Fun (Sweet Flat Rice Noodles) and Oyster Omelet. So many food items to choose from with so many varieties. A place to fulfill my Asian food cravings. Will recommend.

Google
Amazing food, closest authentic Malaysian/Singaporeans food!! Amazing service too!! Chili Crab was amazing(had to order a day before) but worth coming back for it!!

Yelp
I miss it. They had such fantastic and authentic Malaysian food in Plano. I wish someone would step up and fill the gap. Alex was such a talented chef. Unfortunately for his customers, it was time for him to retire.

Yelp
I've been on a 5 year quest to have Laksa again after trying for the first time in Sydney, Australia and falling in love with the delicious coconut curry based broth and had to try Secret Recipe after finding out they served this underrepresented Malaysian dish. I ordered their appetizer Malaysian curry laska which features chicken and a few different ingredients versus the seafood laksa from the noodle section of the menu and thankfully it did not disappoint. I was a bit worried because the price is quite high at about ~$17 but the portions were quite generous and I ended up taking enough home for another meal so the price didn't feel out of line after my dish arrived. The Laksa itself nails the broth perfectly and has a creamy coconut taste with a subtle, but present, Spicy flavor. Just spicy enough to get my sinuses going but not to overpower the dish. The rest of the ingredients: tofu, chicken, noodles, shrimp, fish cakes, etc added some nice texture while absorbing the flavor of the broth which is the true star of the show. Absolutely fantastic and lived up to my high expectations. I'd highly recommend it for lovers of the dish or people who have yet to try it. The only downside was that the place seems quite popular while being a bit understaffed right now. They had a sign saying as much at the register so they seem to be aware and it is hopefully just a temporary issue. It took about 5-10 to get my order in from the front of the line and I was quoted about a 15 minute wait about 15 minutes after they had opened which was much shorter than several people who came in after me. It seemed like a lot of regulars were there and while I was eating people weren't sacred off by being told it might be 40 minutes before they they might have their food. Honestly with how much I enjoyed my meal it didn't really bother me but it's something to factor in when choosing to eat here and in a hurry. The Staff, who I'm guessing are the owners, were friendly and had a good welcoming attitude that made me want to come back despite the wait. Overall, I really enjoyed Secret Recipe. It will be my go to for laksa but I'd like to try more from their South East Asian menu on a day when I'm looking to treat myself to a nicer meal as well.

Yelp
This is a small place, but great one to have for lunch., but a bit pricy for lunch. Definitely delicious/ flavorful dishes. The gentleman that served us recommended the Sambal Shrimp and it was right on. Along with the Roti Canai Curry, we also had the Pad Thai, which could have used a bit more spice. The Rendang Goat (Mutton) had some fabulous flavors... Loved the coconut in it, but could have had less bones in the dish. Given it was a small place, had to self serve the dishes and drinks. This is on my re-visit list.

Yelp
The last time to give a five stars review. Secret recipe may be the best south East Asian restaurant in Texas. Balance of varieties , qualities and pricing. Not everything is great but there are some really good dishes close to what we usually get from Singapore or Malaysia, However they are no longer in operation, owner sold the business last week. This is a bad news for us and family:(

Yelp
Just came here for the first time as I was craving some Malaysian food. This lived up to the hype! Ambiance: nice hole in the wall place. Chef was super friendly! You order up front and they'll bring it to your table. The only downside was that they were short staffed so you basically have to plate things yourselves. Food: the chef knows what he's doing + Beef Roti Murtabak: excellent with the curry + Hainanese Steamed Chicken Rice: nice and tender, and great with the sauce + Malaysian Curry Laksa Mee: good + Kueh Teow Thong: good = Bean sprouts with salted fish: ok + Softshell crab with salted egg: we were too lazy to get the hardshell one. This was easy to eat and yummy. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
The best Malaysian/Singaporean food I've found in the US! Don't even bother with the first half of the menu, the good stuff is all in the second part: the Southeast Asian dishes. You go up to the counter to order and then they serve you at your table. We came on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy for dine-in, although I saw a lot of takeout orders being picked up. The owner and staff are super nice and attentive. We ordered the Beef Rendang, Radish Cake Omelette, Kang Kung, and Roti Canai with Chicken Curry. If you're not sure what to order, I'd recommend these as a good dishes for an introduction past the basic (but still good!) Hainanese Chicken Rice. The food came out pretty quickly, we got the first 3 within 10 minutes and then the roti took the longest at around 15-20. Everything was pretty good and tasted similar to what I had from hawker stalls in Malaysia and Singapore. The only thing that fell a bit flat for me was the roti, but that's just because I like mine with more layers. Overall, a super satisfying and delicious meal. Between 2 people, we had too much food and had enough leftovers for another meal and a bit. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
On my first visit, I liked the food. On my latest visit, the food is not as good. I love curry puffs but it doesn't taste good like it used to. On this visit I ordered the roti prata with curry sauce. The menu listed the price as $5+. When I placed the order at the counter it was $10+. I asked why and was told the price has changed. That's fine if they need to increase the price due to cost but no customer is happy paying a higher price then what is listed on the menu. They need to update the price on the menu. I'm not coming to a business that I get a surprise when I pay.

Yelp
I've had Malaysian food before but really not since I was little, so I'm not the best judge for authenticity! We ordered the curry puffs, seafood laksa, char kway teow, and roti canai with chicken curry. Curry puffs: super flaky, warm, and sweet and savory curry inside with just enough spice for me! Would def get again. Seafood laksa: flavorful curry loaded with toppings! My friend who is Malaysian said there are tons of variations of laksa in the whole region - I'm not sure what version this would be or how legit it is but us non natives really enjoyed it. Char kway teow: reminded me a lot of Cantonese chow fun which I grew up eating. Good wok hay (toasty flavor from stir frying on a wok) but overall it was just OK for husband and I. Roti canai: I was super excited for this but the roti didn't have any folds or layers as much as I'd like. The piece we got was like a flat piece of bread. The curry also was filled with spices I'm not particularly used to so I didn't like it. Overall not a bad choice if you are seeking South East Asian food!! Singaporean and Malaysian food is hard to come by in the States so check out their extensive menu! Customer service was good and we had great laughs with the staff.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem if you enjoy Asian food! The owner is super friendly and they are a family owned business. The food is authentic and very tasty. Served hot as freshly prepared. Huge choice of Malaysian Singaporean and Indonesian dishes. Quick service and very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Our Malaysian friend took us to this restaurant. We had an amazing time. Most of the food items didn't taste as fresh because they have hundreds of items in the menu for hole in the wall, nonetheless they tasted really good. They were out of many itmes, but thats understandable given the volume of menu. We ordered a lot of food with lots of leftovers. I don't remember the name of most of the items and menu doesn't have pictures so its difficult to validate. But some itmes that I remember are Beef roti murtabak with chicken curry: roti was fluffy, soft, and chicken was delicious. Malaysian chicken curry was a hit. It was very similar to Indian chicken curry but unique in its own way. Fresh soy milk was alright. It can be better. Malaysia chicken puffs were good and soft. Veggie pineapple fried rice was also good. Besides these we also got thick flat noodles which was ok. It didnt have lot of flavors. Mixed (thick and thin noodles) with pork and couple of sea food items was good. Sauce was slightly dominating but it was good. We also had a order of large cut tofu that came with rice which was also really good. My friend got oyster omelette, she liked it. I thought it was on a drier side and oysters were super salty. Overall food was good. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
Just got take out for lunch here and everything tastes amazing. If you want a change from the everyday, definitely check this place out. I got Curry Laksa mee (seafood soup noodles) and it tastes homey and a little spicy, mostly soul comforting soup. They have another laksa soup (Penang laksa) in a dark broth that's purposely really fishy tasting and if you wanna go adventurous and eat what Anthony Bourdain ate, go for it but I like the orange coconut curry laksa soup the best. Also highly recommend Hainanese Chicken Rice. If you're not used to eating steamed or boiled chicken with the flabby skin on, I'd recommend the fried version but I grew up eating steamed chicken so I loved the steamed version. The rice was cooked in the chicken broth! Nice touch. The flavors are subtle but definitely home style and made with love. No shortcuts. They have really familiar foods and not so familiar which I love because you can slowly scale up your taste adventure over time. Thanks chef, see you next time!

Yelp
IMO Skip the generic Chinese food menu and go straight to their Southeast Asian menu and prepare to be blown away by absolutely fantastic Thai and Malaysian cuisine. Their curries are fantastic as are their flat noodle soups. This is my "go to" spot when I want something exotic to eat.

Yelp
Okay, where do I begin lol. I love Asian food, especially Thai & Vietnamese food so when I came across this place it was a no brain brainer. Their menu is like a mini booklet lol, there was so many options (Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Singaporean, etc) to choose from but I chose to go with cuisines that I have never had before. The restaurant is set up like a hybrid self service. When you enter you will be seated and given menus, however you will have to go up to the desk to place your order/pay. You also will have to get your own water & (fountain) drinks, however the food is brought to your table. We met the owner of the rest. he was really friendly and helpful in deciding what to order. Appetizers in order from favorite to least favorite Crispy bun with condensed milk- Need I say more? Lol. This dish felt more like a dessert than an appetizer but it was listed under apps so we went with it, it was soft chewy and served piping hot. The condensed milk adds a velvety sweetness, but in all honesty it's not even needed. The buns itself were that good, it reminded me of a fusion of bread and a donut. How can something so simple be so good? I don't know. Coffee pork ribs- I am not a coffee person, I probably have it 2-3 times a year. However I love savory & sweet dishes so I really wanted to see what this would be like. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint at all! I would not change a thing! First off the ribs were tender and literally falling off the bone. The coffee was not super strong, more like a subtle flavor in the background. Curry puffs- I've had this before elsewhere, and I didn't have super high expectations. It was good, crispy on the outside, soft and spice filled in the inside. Entrees Singaporean curry rice vermicelli- This was my favorite entree, it was flavorful, it had a bit of a kick and the shrimps were really tasty. It reminded me of drunken noodles but the difference is the smokiness in this dish. I would certainly order this again. Sambal beef- I enjoyed it, the sauce was like nothing I've ever had before. It was good but not great. I did add some chili sauce to it (because I have no chill when it comes to spiciness) It is served with white jasmine rice. Mango fish filet - I love mango flavored anything, as well as mango salsa with fish. However this was too much! The fish was served in a mango purée sauce, and there were huge chunks of mango as well. I would have preferred just the mango chunks. Adding sriracha sauce did help to balance out the sweetness.

Yelp
This has been our favorite place for South East Asian food. But things have not been very good recently. We ordered Roti Canai and Chicken Rendang through Yelp and it was delivered fast. However the quantity and the quality of the food was disappointing. The Roti Canai ($5.90) was flavorful but the Roti (one piece) was quite greasy and the Sauce/Curry had to small pieces of potatoes. Usually it came with a few small pieces of chicken as well. The Chicken Rendang which is Chicken cooked is a spicy coconut based sauce that was too thin and the coconut was not roasted completely. The quantity of chicken was enough and cooked well but the dish itself was chicken, half cooked coconut, flavor and thin liquid that did not come together. This was our second not so good experience but decided to right about it this time.

Yelp
I went to Secret Recipe for dinner TODAY with a friend who came into town and wanted to eat Singapore/Malaysian food. While having dinner the server came by asking us if we wanted boxes and we said no that we were still eating. Soon after the couple we just met at the next table left and said goodbye to us and the server came back hurried us and brought to go boxes for us. As we sat there packing up our food, as we had a large order the owner of the restaurant his name is Alex came around the corner and stood next to the counter and proceeded to yell at us. He told us " Get out of my restaurant now! I am closing the restaurant, get the hell out of the restaurant! My friend and I was mortified and shocked at this man yelling at the top of his voice in anger. We did not know what to say and packed our food and walked out. This is the most shocking hostile situation my friend or I have ever encountered. This man is the owner of the restaurant, his name is Alex. He is ridiculously Uncouth and Tactless in his actions. He should pack up and go back to Malaysia as I never would imagine any decent human being would act in such a pitiful low class manner

Yelp
Found this on Yelp. Was craving for Malaysian food. Drove from Oklahoma to this place. Walked in for the first time. The owner/chef asked me how many people. I replied 1. He saw table 9 and told me wait as they will clean it up for me to sit. I waited a long time, nobody came out to clean. There are 2/3 other vacant tables, so I just sat myself and ordered. You need to order and pay at the counter.Tips are required (if paying by credit) before you know how their service is. I asked for a receipt, the cashier said ok but wait. I sat down, waited for a long time. Then stood up waited in line to ask the cashier again. The same owner/chef saw me He asked "WHAT IS YOUR PrOBLEM? What u need help??" ...., is this how you treat customers? By the way, food was below average

Yelp
Came here before covid-19. It's so nice to have a Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese, and Thai influenced restaurant! So many options in one place and it's at an affordable price point. You are seated to look at the menu before you have to get up and go to the counter to order and pay in advance. Then the bring the food to you. KL Hokkien Mee and Bee Hoon - a mix of vermicelli and udon like noodles which gives it nice texture. It's stir fried with shrimp, squid, pork and soy sauce. I haven't had this type of noodle stir fry before but it's feel of flavor and texture. Char Khay Teow with Shrimp - one of my favorites! I love flat noodles and bean sprouts. Reminds me of the Cantonese style beef chow fun. Kacang - Malaysian shaved ice with red bean, jelly, and another bean. It's really refreshing and light. Definitely recommend sharing! Definitely want to come back to try other things!

Nancy T.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Food and flavors are always on point! We always bring our friends and family here when they're in town. If you're wanting authentic food then this is the place for you!

Tom H.

Yelp
Never fails to disappoint. Ordered online 2 dishes to pickup tonight. Waited over an hour for order to be made. No message. Went to pick up and was told only when I arrived.

Edina K.

Yelp
Walking inside the restaurant, it's not anything fancy but my friends and I mainly came here to get a variety of foods to choose from so we didn't mind. It's more of a very casual setting. The owner, Alex was very friendly to us and held great conversations with us. For appetizers we ordered the Curry Chicken Puffs, Coffee Pork Ribs and their Soft Buns w. Condensed Milk. Yalllllllllllll all three dishes were DELICIOUS! The highlight of the three was definitely the soft buns, because I was not expecting it to be that good. It was so warm, and softttt and the condensed milk was a great touch. The second highlight was the Coffee Pork Ribs--I mean just look the the pic--they were veryyy generous on the glaze which I appreciated, but I personally didn't taste the coffee. My friends said they did so it must of been very subtle. The ribs were so so tender(again look at the pics lol)! The Curry Chicken Puff was also veryyyy good and flavorful! As for my entree--I ordered the Mango Fish Fillet. Alex did tell me the mango purée makes the dish very sweet, along with the mango chucks but I decided to get it anyway because I thought it was a unique dish due to the mango purée. Honestly, I didn't love the dish because it was very sweet (which Alex did warn me so I can't blame them). I had to add Sriracha to give it a balanced taste, and the vegetables were your standard sautéed veggies. The fish fillet itself was fried just right, but it was a standard fish fillet as well as they didn't add any additional seasoning to it--at least not to me. Overall, the appetizers we ordered definitely stole the show and I will definitely come back for that alone. I personally didn't care too much for the mango fillet fish entree, but because the menu has sooooo many varieties I'm sure they'll be something else I'll try next.

Lori H.

Yelp
I am so happy I got to try this place out. I don't see many restaurants serving Singaporean and Malaysian food, so I ordered several dishes to try. The Chicken Satay and Char Khay Teow were my favorite. You have to try the dipping sauces that they serve on the side. It pairs great with the dishes. I love small family-owned businesses. The head chef was so friendly. He came out to checked on us and made sure we were okay. It shows they really care for their customers. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

Temina C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I ordered takeout because this restaurant is close to my job and I'm so glad I did. I ordered the healthy choice vegetables (tofu) and it came with white rice and the roti canai. As I walked in the place smelled like eggs so I'm glad I ordered takeout. They add a lot of eggs to their dishes! Anyways the food was DELICIOUS. I grew up eating roti and chicken curry and they did a fabulous job making this. Not only that the healthy choice veggies were so fresh I couldn't stop eating them. It make in a light garlic broth which was perfect with the white rice. I ordered an extra roti and I'm so glad I did because the curry was spicy and you gotta have extra roti! The service was excellent and I was treated very well even though I ordered takeout. I'm so glad I came here and I cannot wait to come back and try other delicious meals that they offer!

Fran F.

Yelp
Food at this location is definitely much better than the now-former Carrollton branch. The owner-chef had several volunteers helping him taking orders, and they were very friendly and helpful.

RC D.

Yelp
They have a huge extensive menu so everyone will find something here. The Roti Chicken Canai is incredible. So flavorful, the bread cooked perfectly. The Char Khay Chicken was good - a big portion. It was slightly on the blander side so you had to add sauce to your liking. Great place and looking forward to coming again.

July C.

Yelp
Authentic. Highly recommend trying most in the menu. Ask for recommendations from the staff.

Greg R.

Yelp
When the wife has a taste for Malaysian food, we come here sometimes. All I've tried here had been delicious.

Tianrun Z.

Yelp
Pros:This is our second visit. Food quality and selections are good. We ordered the beef skewers, Hainan chicken rice, and lamb curry. Portions are above average I think but still has room to improve. Or maybe I just eat too much. Haha Cons: One thing I want to mention is that the price on the menu is different than what is in their system. So don't be surprised if you see a higher bill in the end. They put a piece of paper mentioning about increase in price but if you just went to grab the menu you could easily miss the paper. It would be better for them to just update the menu or have the server mention it beforehand. The owner explained that it is a period of hyperinflation, and prices change constantly, that many restaurants are doing this way. Okay, as far as I can tell, out of all the restaurants I have visited in the area recently, you are the only one that is doing it this way. I will still visit, but I will definitely double check the price before placing an order lol.

Tony P.

Yelp
Having our Valentine's Day dinner here for the first time. My first time to try this family owned business. I travelled to South East Asian countries, the food I like most is Malaysian, Thai and Singaporean cuisine. They have Chinese touch but they have different ingredients and taste. We ordered Hainanese Steam Chicken, Penang Poh Piah, Char Khay Teow Shrimp and Water Spinach with Sambal. The chicken is steamed, moist, soft and blended well with its soy sauce gravy. Its superbly delicious! Not salty. The Penang poh piah is their Malaysian version of Chinese spring rolls, but not exactly the same ingredients. It has sliced jicama that makes it crunchy and sweet in every bite. Taste great! Their Malaysian version of Char Khay Teow with shrimp is like Thai's Kwe Teow. Flat rice noodles sautéed in dark sauce and bean sprouts and shrimps. Taste so good! The sautéed water spinach (kang-kong) with sambal is tender and spiced well. Its tasty! Serving staff are friendly and courteous. Moderately priced and great value menu. It's like a hole in the wall business. You pick up their menu from cashier counter, choose what you want, place and pay your order in the same counter. You'll be given an order number. Your order will be served at your table. Self service from getting your drinks, utensils, plates, choose/get your favorite sauces and napkins. You can also pack your own leftovers. I have a feeling that we'll frequent this place for lunch, too.

Jenny H.

Yelp
PRE-PANDEMIC POST A rare Plano spot serving up Malaysian (and some other Southeast Asian) dishes. After eating my way through Penang, where you could find locals eating at any time of the day, I couldn't help but miss the Nyonya flavors and the anywhere-can-be-a-restaurant mentality. Order at the counter and pay first--it's like a typical Malaysian food court. \\ Penang Assam Laksa - the flavors were tasty but lacked dimension. there was a time when I couldn't imagine how fish broth might taste... but it works! this broth is tangy and soothing. I recall a much deeper broth on a street corner in Penang, but I wonder if maybe sitting in the heat and humidity had something to do with it. - the texture was quite powdery, which I didn't enjoy as much - the portion was large--I could definitely have made two meals out of it - also filled with soft thick rice noodles The menu features so many dishes from the night market streets of Penang. You can have the flavors of a night market in an air-conditioned space. You can't go wrong.

Yelp
Wow. All I can say is wow. This place has me wishing I lived in Dallas/Plano just so that i could go back! First off, this restaurant is a GREAT value! Their prices are extremely reasonable (like less than $10 for most things if memory serves - unless you get the fish lol)! If you know anything about me, you'd know that value is one of the primary things I look for in my reviews, and they did it best. On top of that, I'm not sure what his name was but the guy who rang us up and brought out our food was hilarious! He started making fun of one of my friends in the same way that I do and it made my night He was also very helpful in giving suggestions on the menu Finally the FOOD OHHHH MY GOSH! I had the Thai Basil fried rice and ohhhhh my goodness gracious my life basically changed after having it. I'm nowhere near Plano now and my mouth is watering just from thinking about it. And if that's not enough, they give cash back! PLEASE eat here

Rina N.

Yelp
This was are go to restaurant for take out and it has always been very good but after tonight it will be a long time before I give them another try. There food is pricey but if it is good you don't mind but tonight the portions were super small and didn't even fill the container from end to end. Very little orange chicken....enough for one person at best. We tried the mongolian stir fry....alll we got was chicken with sliced zucchini and it was bland. Stir fry always has a variety of vegetables....onions, peppers, carrots, mushroom, zucchini....but not tonight...very disappointing. Even their pictures show all the vegetables in the stir fry. The steams dumplings were all mushy and over cooked. They must have lost their good chef. What a waste of $78.

Yelp
Secret Recipe serves Singaporean/Malaysian fusion food that is yummy at a great value!! The last time I visited was 4 years ago, and I have always wanted to revisit this place because their food is honestly really great for the price AND they give large portions. This time, I tried their Hainanese steamed chicken and rice, which really satisfied my week-long cravings. It's such a great place to take family and friends. Their menu is really long and redundant (they need someone to help them organize that menu)! But they do offer a lot of options, and oddly enough, it works! Makes me wonder, what's your secret, Secret Recipe?? I definitely recommend this place!

Demarcus T.

Yelp
Man we used to love this plus, but the last 2 years haven't been kind to them. Went a few nights ago with the wife and the food just wasn't that good. All self service as well which is fine but they kind of expect a tip when you order. Soda machine was broken. Some of the food was stale. Place was clearly struggling. Don't think we'll ever go back. Not worth the drive for the price and the mediocre service.

Lulu C.

Yelp
Good food with reasonable price. Curry lame noodle comes with sooo many meat, and flavor was good. Wok rice noodle always is my favorite, very woky and savory.

Penn J.

Yelp
Real Malaysian! We're front out of town. Had to go back a second time, even though we were staying in motel 30 mi away in Cedar Hill south of Dallas

Yelp
Tastes like Singapore or the hawkers in Kuala Lumpur. For those who have not travel to that part of the world yet, this is the highest compliment.

Yelp
I came here because I read many great reviews and I have been craving Malaysian food. I tried 4 dishes and here are my thoughts. 1) Roti Canai - super thin flaky and crispy with chicken curry dip. It was meh. I would take a bite but it doesn't make me want more :/ 2) Pot stickers - I had it fried pan instead of steamed. It was pretty good with the vinegar/soy sauce dip 3) Red thai duck curry - The bell peppers were raw. The bamboo shoots had a strong over powering odor. The best part of this dish was the duck.... I feel bad that I couldn't eat any of the other vegetables because it most tasted uncooked thoroughly 4) Crispy chicken - the meat was sadly dried but the skin was crispy in goodness. The sauce was delicious, especially with the cucumbers. Overall, the food was okay. The service was quick and attentive. You order and pay first. Then the dishes will be served to you at the table.

Yelp
I've eaten their food a handful of times by dine in and takeout and it's always been a good experience. The owners and staff are very nice and social with their customers. My bro said it's hands down the best Hainan steamed chicken (with garlic rice) that he's ever eaten and I have to agree. I'm not even a big fan of Hainan chicken but dam, it's good here! The sauce they use makes all the difference. I love their oyster omelette too along with many other dishes. Policy right now is that you prepay at the front desk once after you decide what to order. Drinks are self serve at this point and sauces are in self serve containers on a table at the back. You probably get bigger portions if you dine in rather than take it to go.

Yelp
Walked in at 8:05 PM after driving 30 minutes AND calling and confirming their 8:45 PM close time...the person at the front barely let us walk in and said multiple times "we're closed!!!" We even said we called and were told it closes at 8:45! ...we were turned away even so. Very rude! We will not be eating here ever. We're sure they won't miss our business but they just lost a network of potential customers!

Yelp
I've frequented the Carrollton location many times and have always enjoyed all my meals there so I had the same expectation for this location. However, this location did not meet my expectations as far as the overall meal satisfaction. The menu is extensive and has many varieties of Asian and South Asian dishes. I came to this location during lunch with a few coworkers and the place was pretty much empty therefore service was prompt and quick. You order and pay at the front when you're ready and they'll bring out your food to you. I ordered an order of curry puffs to share. The curry puffs came out super quick but then I realized it had been sitting in a heat lamp oven so it wasn't cooked to order. There was way too much breading and wasn't crisp and flaky. The inside was also bland and dry. Wouldn't order this again. (1/5) For my meal, I ordered their steamed Hainan chicken. It was decent but I've had better and I was immediately disappointed. Flavors were bland and meat was super dry. I had to drench it in the ginger sauce. The Carrollton location is much better with this dish, hands down. (3/5) My co worker ordered the crab rangoons to share and it was also just okay. The wonton wrapper was chewy and dry instead of crispy. The crab and cream cheese mixture inside was pretty good but the wonton was a huge miss. (2/5) Note to self: I can't knock this place completely because the Carrollton location usually delivers a great meal so I'll stick to going to that location.

Yelp
I was there yesterday to have my seafood Laksa(Malaysian shrimp curry to go)and I was the only customer there. I was almost done eating when the lady started spraying air freshener all over the restaurant!!! Lady, why would you do that while I was eating??? I couldn't believe it! I even put tip in the tip jar for her(she took my order at the register and brought my food out). Thank God, I just got done eating when she started spraying. I even got the mist in my mouth a little as I was leaving. It was overpowering. It was very rude. I love the food there, but the staff is hit or miss when it comes to friendliness/courtesy. She needs to be considerate and not spray the stuff while customer/s are present in the restaurant. No one wants to breathe that in while they're dining! For that, I will give updated review of 3 stars. It was a total turn off. I hope the owner will read this review! I've been back since then, I had nothing, but good experience and food here, so I upgraded to 4 stars!!

Yelp
When I first heard of Secret Recipe, I though about some exotic foods, rarely used spices, etc. Actually, it's a Malaysian restaurant. Malaysian cuisine is not homogeneous, but a combination of Chinese, Indian, Singaporean, and of course Malaysian cooking. Many of my friends have been here or in the Carrollton location. I'm embarrassed to say it's my first time here. Although I'm not from Malaysia, I have many friends from there, and they all happen to be excellent cooks. So my review here is still legit. Please read on. I especially like the wet fried noodles. It's soupy, eggy (if there's such a word), and tasty. So I ordered the wet fried beef noodles. First of all, the portion was huge. No complaint. It looked soupy - a thick sauce mixed with beaten eggs. It looked very yummy and appetizing. There was a quite a lot of well-seasoned, tender slices of beef, plus flat noodles fried in soy sauce. Very delicious! We also ordered a signature Malaysian dish - laksa noodles. This noodle soup is exceptionally flavorful and full of herbs and spices. The soup is amazing! Ingredients include fried tofu, chicken slices, bean sprout, shrimp, etc. If you like curry, this is a must to try. We were not disappointed. It was so good! We were not able to finish all the soup. Since Chinese people don't waste food, we boxed it home and enjoyed it again in our next meal. The service was good. The manager or maybe the owner came out and asked about the food. This is not common in Asian restaurants. Food is number 1, and service is number 2 or none. Whenever this happens, you know they really appreciate your business and you're so welcomed. I'm sure we'll come again.

Yelp
This place feels like home. I'm Malaysian and every Malaysian who has come to visit me, I take to this restaurant and they love it because it's so close to home. I even have my non Malaysian husband ordering his favorites like Bami Goreng (fried noodles), Roti Canai and chicken Satay. My personal favorite is Char Kuey Teow with shrimp btw :-) I also wanted to say that Alex- the owner really treats people like family. I called in to place a to go order for my husband the day I got discharged after delivering my baby and he went into the kitchen and cooked me a ginger chicken porridge for my recovery at home. So kind! ( and so delicious!) Please try this place if you haven't already! It's an Asian dining establishment, so don't expect PF Chang's. It's just a home like restaurant and atmosphere you'll experience if you were in Malaysia. Thank you for the post partum recovery food, Alex!

Yelp
We are so pleased to find this restaurant and wonderful staff. Very difficult to find restaurants like this anywhere. The owner was awesome, he is very passionate about the quality of his business and we enjoyed chatting with him. Ordered a bunch of dishes. Coming from Baba Nyonya heritage, I am thrilled to find curry puff, laksa and other AUTHENTIC Malaysian dishes. Thank you for. Or changing the taste or ingredients to American style!! Will definitely come back again. Or when I am in Dallas for a week or two every few weeks to take care of clients SMP/PRP clients here. Ps: we drove @ an hour plus - Secret Recipe was worth it. TheQueenOfScalp.com will be in Orange County, Ca & Arlington, Dallas with Dr J - yay!

Yelp
All the dishes that we ordered were amazing. I also love their friendly service. My favorite was the curry with Indian flat bread. It was made when ordered.
