Great place I discovered in upland next to sprouts! This isn’t the biggest place, but there are some seats inside if you do want to dine in. What I like about it is that they make it simple, you order a base, a protein, you order a sauce and it is $15 just like that. The katsu was crispy and the beef was tender. The macaroni was made different, and wasn’t just packed with mayo, so it was quite good. If you are looking for katsu in this area this place should fit the bill. Until next time.

Google
Pork katsu was very good. You get 2 fried cutlets with choice of sauce. Got the basil sauce which was excellent. The udon had that QQ bounce and paired well with the miso soup. Service is friendly, portions are just borderline right, in case your on the fence on price per volume.

This is definitely a hidden gem. Chicken katsu was delicious. Presentation was excellent and the value is stellar in this economy. Wanted to specifically highlight the customer service. Posh is fabulous and kind. Space is clean and well-maintained.

Absolutely delicious! I just grabbed takeout for the first time. The gentleman working the front was nice and helpful. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Plate which came with miso soup (good) and I chose to have rice, house salad and macaroni salad. I also picked the Very spicy sauce (nice kick, very fresh tasting) and the Pear Curry (amazing, sweet and savory). The Katsu was perfect, crunchy without the meat being dry. The house salad and dressing were a perfect compliment to the rich Katsu. I did also order some pork Gyoza which were also very good. I can't wait to go back and try some more sauces!

Google
A quaint, food spot with amazing sauces! I had been craving Japanese curry and was hesistant to try new places. I was pleasantly impressed with their Japanese curry + chicken katsu bowl. It reminded me of the takeout I had in Japan. On top of that, the customer service from the owner was amazing. She gave us samples of her other sauces (basil, tonkatsu, and sweet chili). All were amazing. Other pluses: clean bathrooms and tables, lots of parking. We paid about $24 for two bowls, and a soda. We would definitely come back again!

For just $10, the chicken katsu rice bowl is an absolute flavor-packed masterpiece that feels like a steal. Each bite begins with golden, crispy chicken cutlets—perfectly breaded and fried to a delicate crunch while keeping the meat inside tender and juicy. The katsu rests on a bed of fluffy white rice that soaks up every bit of savory sauce drizzled over it, balancing richness with comfort. But the real magic comes from the secret spicy mayo—a creamy, tangy blend with just the right kick of heat to elevate every mouthful. It’s the kind of sauce that makes you pause, savor, and wonder what the secret ingredient could be. Together, the crisp chicken, warm rice, and fiery-smooth mayo create a harmony of texture and taste that’s both indulgent and satisfying—proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune for something truly incredible.

Secret sauce is the best Asian fusion food in the local area of Upland! The Chicken Katsu is hard to beat, pork being just as good. If you like places like L&L Hawaiian BBQ, you’ll really love this place. I’ve just been here four times and it is now my favorite go-to restaurant in Upland. My wife and I marvel each time we leave how good the food is. The miso soup is fantastic. The katsu chicken is perfect every time. Even after 5 to 10 minutes of eating all the other great side orders, the katsu chicken never becomes soggy and is a tender as can be. The consistency from this chef is rock solid!!! Try the basil sauce with your veggies; its flavor on steroids with a hint of heat. I included a photo of the underside of a table. That may seem strange to some, but to me, it’s a way of determining the cleanliness of a restaurant when there is no gum under a table. Perhaps I was trying to be a smidgen artistic, as well (LoL). The macaroni salad is mayo based with tiny diced up pieces of apples, white raisins, and shredded carrots… way better than other Hawaiian, Asian barbecue places. Oops, I almost forgot to mention. Be sure to try the garlic edamame! This is the best thing I’ve had in a long time, sweet and savory. 😀

Google
Secret Sauce lives up to its name—every bite is packed with bold, craveable flavors that keep you guessing (and coming back for more). This unassuming Upland spot serves up killer smash burgers, loaded fries, and milkshakes so thick they’ll make your week.I tried the Classic Smash Burger with their signature “secret sauce” (creamy, tangy, and utterly addictive) and a side of Truffle Parmesan Fries—crispy perfection. Everything’s cooked fresh, fast, and with serious attention to detail.Friendly service, chill vibe, and generous portions for the price. If you love gourmet burgers without the pretense, Secret Sauce is a must-try in Upland!

Yelp
Wow wow wow is all I can say. Where do I even begin.. I ordered the plate with the katsu chicken, udon noodles, house salad, Mac salad & the Japanese curry for sauce. Hubby ordered the plate with tofu, udon noodles, house salad, Mac salad & the tonkatsu for sauce My son had the katsu with udon noodles bowl & the teriyaki for sauce Me and hubby got the donuts with dip to share The food was AMAZING! I love that me, my son and my vegan hubby all have something to enjoy here the donuts were soooooo good too!! You can tell they're made fresh & the dip goes so well with them. All the food was a hit here! The vibes, energy & layout of the restaurant is so nice & well decorated All that said, the highlight of my review definitely goes to the family that was working. I didn't get a chance to get their names but they were so so nice, helpful and even gave us a complimentary green tea as well as different sauces on the side to try out (all were delicious! ). Their daughter was there and was the sweetest. Our son was getting fussy and she tried to make him smile/laugh. I believe they own the establishment which makes their sincerity & amazing customer service that much more appreciated especially as they were working on a holiday We had an amazing first time experience here and will definitely be returning Thank you guys so much!

Yelp
I love this fantastic little plate lunch joint in Upland and am happy to have found it today. Katsu curry being one of my favorites, I was excited to try this place out. Their katsu was done very nicely. Crispy outer, juicy inside. The curry is a classic no frills Japanese home-style curry. Most J-curry places stateside are spicier, fancier styles which are nice, but a far cry from traditional homemade style. This place nails the classic Japanese style, "Bon-curry". For my sides, I tried their house and fruit salads. The miso dressing was just right. Big fresh fruit pieces. Very nice. Make sure to get some red pickles (fukujinzuke) on the side. It goes great with the curry. This place would easily be 5 stars, if their shrimp plate was fried shrimp with panko breading like their katsus. Instead they use a premade tempura style shrimp (a little weird with the curry). It's okay, but pales in comparison to their katsus. Keep up the nice work! I'm happy to have found my new go to curry spot in Upland.

Yelp
Was finally able to try this spot out. Place was clean and inviting, staff members were friendly. For $15 I was able to get soup, my main dish, the base, and two salads. I was curious with the blue sauce so tried it out, it tasted like a fruitier version of a teriyaki. It was good but the curry that I got extra was comfort food for me. The miso soup was a little bland. Overall good value.

Yelp
I was finally able to check out this place for lunch. The lady who took my order was very friendly. It's a small and clean place with a few tables, if you decide to eat there. I opted for the "Build your own plate" and chose rice, chicken katsu and house salad. It also came with miso soup. The portion is large, plenty of chicken, crunchy breading, fresh salad. Price was $15, which is okay given the good portion size. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Came across this little hole in the wall joint on Yelp. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a lady (possibly one of the owners?). She explained the menu to me, which was kind of self explanatory. I ordered the plate set which comes with miso soup. You can choose your base, which I chose rice. For my protein, I ordered chicken katsu. For my sauce I asked what she would recommend, and she recommended the tonkatsu sauce. And she said I can get one more if I'd like to try, so I ordered the teriyaki sauce. For my 2 salads, I ordered the macaroni & house salad. As I got home to enjoy my food, I went to eat the miso soup first. When I took off the lid, the smell didn't really sit well with me. It had a fishy smell to it (I know there's seaweed in it but it smelt too fishy for just having seaweed). The portion of food did make up for the rating I'm giving. Everything on the plate was delicious. I do wish there was more dressing for the house salad, but i enjoyed the salad. Didn't really care for the tonkatsu sauce as it was a little strong for my liking. The restaurant was pretty empty but it seats a fair amount of people.

Yelp
I love this place. The chicken katsu bowl is a great value and the plate set is pretty yummy. It's a must try. I eat here too often.

Yelp
Five star for it's value! Delicious chicken/pork katsu (with curry) bento for $14 each, you get 2 layers or katsu. That's plenty of food. You can choose the sides (e.g., rice, salad, steamed vegetables, etc.) and try additional sauces. Each tray comes with a cup of Miso soup. The restaurant is easy to locate with plenty of parking with Sprouts near by in case you need to get some groceries done. Not a fancy meal, but perfect for lunch or dinner takeout, would recommend!

Yelp
Been here before and have enjoyed both the food and customer service. I recommend the custom set where you choose your combo selections. The sauces are flavorful, so you can try different ones at different visits and not be bored. Great place for chicken or pork katsu. Worth trying!

Yelp
I love Secret Sauce. Please go to this place so we can keep it in business. Aside from the staff being super friendly, this place is DELICIOUS. My husband is vegetarian, so he always gets the tofu option. I always get katsu curry chicken. LOVE the fresh fruit side, there is always some kind of yummy fruit options in there. Super consistently delicious - I've gone probably more than 5 times now and love it.

Yelp
This place is really about the sauces. The food at secret sauce is pretty standard but, as the name states, it's all about the sauce. And what a fantastic selection of sauces there were. We tried the peanut, the pear curry, and the spirulina. All of them were delicious, the peanut sauce was incredibly thick and the pear curry had a nice sweetness along with some heat to compliment the curry flavor. What's also great is the owner was kind enough to let us sample a bunch of other sauces and there are enough of them to warrant several returns. You're basically ordering protein, rice, and sauce. Think of it like a bento. Tried the donuts with the pandan sauce, which were ok. Overall, a nice spot for a good, quick meal.

Yelp
Secret Sauce is a hidden gem! The space is small and cozy, but it's clear this place is popular--lots of to-go orders going out nonstop. I had the chicken tonkatsu and it was awesome--crispy, flavorful, and served in a generous portion. The prices are incredibly fair for the quality and quantity you get. What really sets this place apart are the sauces--so many to choose from, and each one is unique and delicious. You can tell they put real thought into flavor here. The staff was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend for anyone craving great food, great service, and serious flavor!

Yelp
Food: The food was so good, if it was closer to us this would be our spot. It was all very fresh and hot. So tasty and there were no weird pieces of chicken! It does come in white meat which we prefer!! They have a little water station for you to get water too! Service: The gal who took our order was one of the nicest workers I've met. She was so helpful, we let her know it was our first time and she made us feel so welcomed. Checking on us after she brought us our food. And just making sure we were good! Outside: The parking lot is huge and there is no outdoor seating. Inside: There were a decent amount of tables and they did have a public restroom. When we were eating there were a few gnats that were bothering us. But other than that it was great!

Yelp
Nice little Spot!! I purchased pork katsu. It comes with choice of Carb+Protein+salad and fruit and also Miso soup. Pork meat was tender, not overcooked but crispy breadcrumb. 2 layers of meat. Miso soup very tasty. You can choose different type of sauces. I chose Sweet chilli, but they let me try 3 other sauces that also taste amazing. Cashier also nice and helpful. Will come back and try other dish

Yelp
So good every time we come, the service is always great. The katsu is always on point, you won't regret it

Yelp
It was my first time eating in Upland and I'm sure glad I came here because this gem of a spot was waiting for me. I was greeted instantly by one of the friendly owners and my gf + I both got Chicken Katsu sets with 2 fruit salads, house salad, and a macaroni salad. The miso soup came out quickly and was great for that chilly day. The Chicken Katsu sets came out not too long after and I was excited to see how good the food looked despite its simplicity. I had gotten the Pear Curry sauce with my set and my gf got the Tonkatsu Sauce. The owner overheard me talking about wanting to try some of the other sauces next time and was kind enough to offer samples to us! The chicken katsu to breading ratio was great and retained it's crispiness throughout the meal without being too heavy to eat. The fruit salad had a good variety and was all fresh. Macaroni salad was light and had apple bits there which resulted in it tasting more on the sweeter side which I didn't mind. I was able to try my gf's Tonkatsu sauce, Blue Lagoon sauce, Crazy Spicy sauce, and Basil sauce as well. The pear curry was sweet yet savory and paired well with the katsu. The tonkatsu sauce was as expected - tonkatsu sauce but still good. The blue lagoon (my favorite) had some acidity but was tasty when tossed onto the chicken. The Crazy Spicy and Basil sauces were good as well. I'm excited to come back next time and try the other sauces too. This place is quiet but well kept and I hope that they can stick around for as long as possible because it's one of my favorite restaurants given how good the service is, the affordability, and the generous portions of food. Come by and support this small business because they definitely deserve it!

Yelp
I went to Sprouts and decided to pick up some Katsu at Secret Sauce for lunch. I built my own plate with white rice, chicken katsu with pear curry, house salad, and fruit salad. I really liked the pear curry, it has a sweet taste and made with a coconut milk base. It reminded me of Thai yellow curry. I asked for a sample of the Blue Lagoon sauce, which I was told is made with spirulina. It had a tangy flavor similar to tonkatsu sauce with a little kick of spice and complemented the katsu really well. Really great restaurant and can't wait to come back and try more of the sauces.

Yelp
This place is a small restaurant that took the space from a Mediterranean restaurant. The space was extremely clean with a water dispensary and extremely nice and attentive staff. They inquired about any comments and suggestions we may have had and even provided samples of their wide berth of sauces. As such, in terms of hospitality, this place does extremely well. For the food, I ordered a set of rice, pork tonkatsu, curry sauce, and 2x fruit salad. The set meal comes with an absolutely delectable cup of miso soup, and the white rice was superb. The meat was juicy and tender, but the breading did peel just a little. The fruit salad was just mixed fruit, but it was extremely fresh and I do like fruit. The least impactful part of the set was the japanese curry sauce, which had the components of flavor but lacked the oomph. As my dining companions put it, if it matched the flavors and intensity of Ono's Hawaiian BBQ sauces (which they said the meat was lacking), this place would achieve perfect marks. As it stands, this place achieves a recommend for its tidy environment, pleasant employees, and great food.

Yelp
Tried this place and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered chicken katsu plate with salad and fruit as sides. Crispy and flavorful chicken. I tried the pear curry sauce which was a delicious addition and the owner was so kind to give me a sample of the blue lagoon sauce! Don't know what is in it but it is fantastic! Slightly sweet, tangy and just a hint of spice. Really enjoyed this meal and at $15 very reasonable for quality food. Will definitely return!

Yelp
After a long hike, I was craving my Japanese food and went here. Rancho has some of the worst Asian food if any at ALL, but this place is a godsend. I got pork katsu with curry. Food was delicious and very filling. Probably one of the first times where I spent as much as I did and got my moneys worth. I was expecting to pay a lot more based on how old the pictures were but it's still $14 per plate. This place has good reviews for good reason. I'm coming back forever. And I don't have to drive all the way to Rowland or Torrance for decent Japanese takeout now. Please support this business. So they can Keep the prices as is.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Upland, check out this amazing hole in the wall!! Serving up fresh katsu with so many different sauce options and sides. This plate is such a good deal! You pick a protein, a sauce, two sides, and you get miso soup! This was so so good. The service was so friendly as well, I will be back!

Yelp
Secret Sauce is a hidden gem. Top 5 spot in Upland to grab an affordable and delicious dinner for my family. Large portions and plenty of options. Their Katsu is very good. Most of their other food would be 7/10 range. Nothing spectacular, but hits the spot. Service is great. The staff is always very friendly and they will go out of their way to make sure you have a great meal. The restaurant is simple and cozy. They keep it very clean and well organized.

Yelp
Came here for lunch after trying it one time and loving it. Tried a new flavor today, having the orange sauce. The orange sauce was sweet and perfect for me, but too sweet for my S.O. It is definitely on the sweeter side so if you do not have a sweet tooth you may wanna get the pear curry flavor instead, which is sweet but also savory, with a classic curry taste! The katsu itself is crispy and delicous The macaroni salad is sweet and also great! And the fruit salad is fresh and had a variety of different fruits! The service is always very great and friendly, and she provided us with other sample sauces like the last time! We enjoyed it again and look forward to the next time!

Yelp
Ordered the Katsu with udon and pear sauce. The pear sauce was very refreshing and tastes like Thai coconut curry. The owner was very sweet and asked me if I wanted to try the other sauces. I tried the original and basil curry. I also enjoyed the two sides! The portion size is huge and I couldn't finish the plate, which comes with a miso soup. I like the space and there are plenty of tables to pick from. They are available via Uber and DoorDash as well. So convenient!! I will come back for the friendly service and yummy meals.

Yelp
We were in the area stopping by Rhino Records in Montclair and my son and I wanted to have some katsu. This place popped up in our search and decided to give it some go. Located in a strip mall of sorts next to Sprouts you can't miss it. We were greeted by the owner and took our order happily. The menu selection is unique in that you pick the various components of your meal. Be it rice or pita, various proteins, sauces (there's quite a bit of sauce choices) and a couple choices of sides to choose from. When the bento style boxes came out I honestly thought it wasn't going to be enough, but boy was I wrong. I ordered pork katsu and my son chicken. The katsu was fresh and the crust was so crispy. Nothing soggy here, it had a very satisfying crunch when you bit into it, even though it had been dunked into that savory Japanese curry sauce. By the time we were both done, I was honestly stuffed. A great deal for the amount of food you get with your meal. Give them a try or order out, they seem to do a lot of takeout business when we were there. Can't be wrong either way as it's a cool spin on the traditional katsu dishes.

Yelp
Easy to order with screen. Or order online and pick up. Small indoor seating but quiet. Love all the sauces. Everything tastes great. I like to get the fruit salad.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Solid katsu spot. They let you customize your plate by choosing a carb, protein and two of their three salads. I liked the katsu but my gf said she would have preferred slightly larger bread crumbs. The chicken is also white meat which I preferred but she definitely prefers dark meat for katsu. Over all we both enjoyed our meals and would try again. The corn cheese was good but I didn't realize that all the cheese was on the top. I let it cool slightly so we ended up with a large chunk of cheese on top of our corn that was rather difficult to eat.

Yelp
This place just opened a few months ago. It did not disappoint!! I would highly recommend stopping by for a quick lunch or dinner. It's quiet and clean inside and service is super friendly, fast, and helpful! I ordered the shrimp combo plate with mac salad and it came with a free miso soup. I also got the fried tofu. Portions are generous and everything was freshly fried and delicious. The mac salad was okay, not super flavorful, maybe could have used some more sweetness via apples or more raisins. I might get something else next time, but it was refreshing to have on the side. I really liked that you can pick veggies as your carb/base-- having the steamed greens as opposed to something heavier like rice or noodles was a huge plus for me. The tofu could have used a bit more salt, but they were good slathered in sauce. The sauces are definitely the stars. I forgot to take a picture, but the owner gave us little cups of each sauce to sample, including their new Blue Lagoon, which was my favorite! It tastes pretty similar to Mediterranean toum, so... delicious and addicting. And the blue color is just fun. I also loved the orange sauce and pear curry sauce. The fruitiness comes through so well and pairs nicely with the fried stuff. If you have extra sauces left over, definitely take them home and have them with fries later for a real good time ;)

Angelle M.

Yelp
Amazing! The food was really good (especially the blue lagoon sauce) and service was great. The woman who served us was extremely kind and welcoming.

Yelp
My friends and I stumbled upon this unassuming restaurant after a quick yelp search for an Asian restaurant nearby and decided to give it a try. The place was relatively small but clean and we were warmly welcomed by the lovely lady up front. She was extremely helpful and friendly when we mentioned it was our first time there and she gave us a rundown on how to order. You could choose to build your own plate for only $14 or choose from their large sides menu. There are also a chicken katsu bowl and shrimp tempura udon that is are a pre-designed dish. My friends and I all decided on the create your own plate and the lovely lady let us know that we can try samples of the other sauces or switch out our sauce if we didn't like it. For my plate, I went with the white rice base, followed by chicken katsu, basil sauce (I asked for recommendations and the basil and Japanese curry were her favorites), and for the sides I went with macaroni salad and house salad. The plate also came with a complimentary miso soup which was served first. There's also a complimentary water jug up front which makes it easy for anyone to grab a sip of water. The food didn't take too long to come out, we were all delighted with the presentation and the large portion sizes. We were given mini samples of all the different sauces which made the experience even more fun and memorable. I loved how perfectly crispy my chicken katsu was, it was fried to perfection and seasoned well, it was delicious with every sauce. The basil sauce had an herby umami flavor, with a hint of spice and that complimented my chicken. The house salad was simple and balanced, and while I don't know the sauce that came with the salad, it was still tasty regardless. Overall, I would 100% recommend coming to Secret Sauce, everything is made fresh to order and the staff is absolutely the sweetest!

Yelp
I don't say this lightly, but Secret Sauce might just be serving the most life-changing chicken katsu I've ever had. I went in expecting a casual meal; I left seriously reconsidering everything I thought I knew about comfort food. The restaurant itself feels, well, secretive -- in the best way. It's tucked between a plant shop and a record store, with a warm glow spilling out from behind a minimalist sign that just reads Secret Sauce. The name alone intrigues you, but once you step inside, the smell of sizzling oil and toasted panko breadcrumbs hits you like a warm hug. The air hums with that golden, savory aroma that instantly tells you something magical is happening in the kitchen. I ordered the chicken katsu plate, of course. The waiter gave a knowing nod -- like, "Ah, you picked the right one." When the plate arrived, it was a thing of beauty. Golden perfection. Each slice of katsu was neatly fanned out over a mound of steamed white rice, glistening like jewels of crisp, crunchy heaven. On the side sat a small dish of the restaurant's namesake -- the "Secret Sauce." It looked rich, dark, and mysterious, like the culinary equivalent of a secret handshake. The first bite was unreal. The crunch was audible, almost cinematic -- the kind of sound that could be used in a commercial to sell happiness. The panko coating was flawless: feather-light, golden-brown, and fried to that elusive point where it shatters rather than crumbles. Beneath that, the chicken was juicy enough to make you pause mid-bite in disbelief. It wasn't just cooked -- it was cared for. Tender, flavorful, perfectly seasoned with just a whisper of salt and pepper that let the natural savoriness shine through. You could tell someone in the kitchen knows exactly how long to marinate and exactly when to pull it from the oil. And then came the sauce -- the Secret Sauce -- and oh, what a revelation it was. Sweet, tangy, and just the right amount of umami depth, it had that addictive quality that makes you want to dip everything in it -- rice, cabbage, maybe even your fork if you run out of food. There was something slightly fruity and smoky about it, like a blend of Worcestershire, miso, and magic. It wasn't just a condiment; it was a flavor experience. I'm convinced that if they bottled it, they'd have to keep it behind glass like a fine whiskey. The rice was the quiet hero -- pearly, perfectly sticky, and hot enough to steam the air when stirred. Each bite of chicken with a little rice and sauce was a symphony of texture and taste -- crispy, tender, saucy, and soothing. On the side came a small mountain of finely shredded cabbage with a drizzle of sesame dressing, providing that fresh crunch that balances out the rich katsu. It was the kind of thoughtful plate design that says, "We didn't just throw this together; we crafted it." Midway through the meal, I realized something -- I hadn't touched my phone once. I was too busy savoring every bite. Every slice of katsu stayed crisp until the last one, which is practically a miracle in itself. Even when a bit of sauce soaked in, it didn't turn soggy; it became even more flavorful, like the breading had absorbed all the best parts of the sauce. The temperature, the texture, the taste -- everything was perfectly calibrated. By the end, I was full but emotionally unprepared for it to be over. I found myself scraping the plate with my chopsticks, chasing every grain of rice that had touched the sauce. The waiter smiled knowingly when he came to clear my plate -- he's probably seen that exact scene a thousand times before. The atmosphere in Secret Sauce adds to the magic. It's cozy but modern, with wooden tables, warm lighting, and a faint hum of conversation that makes you feel part of a shared secret. The open kitchen lets you catch glimpses of the chef at work -- focused, calm, completely in their element. Every sizzle of oil feels like part of a ritual, every plate a carefully guarded treasure. In a world where restaurants often rely on trends and gimmicks, Secret Sauce does something refreshingly rare: it just makes really, really good food. No tricks, no pretense -- just craftsmanship, passion, and flavor that stays with you long after you leave. So yes, the secret is officially out: Secret Sauce serves chicken katsu that could make angels weep. Crispy perfection, tender chicken, sauce so good it could start religions -- this is comfort food elevated to art. I'd travel across town, across cities, maybe even across countries, just to taste it again. If you ever find yourself near Secret Sauce, do yourself a favor: order the chicken katsu. Don't ask what's in the sauce. Just trust it. Some secrets are better left deliciously untold.

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing customer service! I discovered this place a couple of months ago and the chicken katsu bowl is amazing!!! The amount is quite generous for the price: around 10$ for the katsu bowl which is usually packed with chicken to the brim. This is probably the best chicken katsu I've been able to find in the area and surrounding. It's definitely a hidden gem and think they would be so much more popular if they weren't as hidden and had more advertising. Perhaps expand their menu a little but there is definitely options! The inside is pretty quite and quaint and nice for a little lunch stop! Ambiance is good! Would recommend 100%

Yelp
Cozy little katsu shop. Front of house is super friendly. Portions are big and flavorful. It is a build your plate (ala Subway,Chipotle,Poke places) which I love because I like to experiment. Their gimmick is the 12 different sauce choices that range from basic(tonkatsu) to wild(Blue lagoon). You get only one sauce with your meal, but the server offered up samples of the other sauces for free, which was nice. Nothing is mind-blowing here but it received 5/5 because everything is done so perfectly. This isn't fancy eats, it is delicious comfort food cooked perfectly.. I found the prices to very fair, less than a combo meal at Carl's Jr or their neighbor Waba grill.

Yelp
I had Secret Sauce bookmarked for a while now. I received a coupon in the mail for them and my husband's coworker had raved about them so it was a sign that we had to go! hahah. They are located in the same plaza as Sprouts and they're in between the nail place and Great Clips. There is no outdoor seating unfortunately, but they have a few tables inside. There are 4 steps to ordering an entrée ($13) 1) Pick a base: rice, udon, pita bread, or veggies 2) Pick one protein: Chicken Katsu (with or without cheese), grilled chicken, beef stew, pork katsu, shrimp, veggies, or fried tofu. NOTE: If you want a second protein, it's an extra $5 3) Pick one sauce; Japanese curry, basil, teriyaki, pear curry, tonkatsu, orange, spicy mayo and sometimes they have new sauces prepared that day 4) Pick two salads: Fruit salad, Macaroni salad, House salad The food is not sitting out and they made the food to order. Customer service is really friendly. My husband and I have eaten here twice now and they recognized us the second time already. So far we've tried the chicken katsu, pork katsu, shrimp, and fried tofu. Everything is made fresh and comes out really hot. Great portions too. They also give you extra sauces for you to taste test. For drinks, they have canned and bottled drinks available.

Yelp
Their food was good and I liked that it was all decent portions. The build your own set is what I had. The shrimp tempura was fresh, crispy, and tasted good. The basil sauce tasted like thousand island. I did not taste basil. However I did try their Japanese curry sauce and that was good. I liked their macaroni salad that had some fruit in it and the mayo was probably a Japanese mayo because it was not greasy like the typical Hawaiin mac salad. The udon noodles were thin and not dry. Its different from the store bought udons. I enjoyed their miso soup too that had some seaweed and diced tofu. Their house salad was not bad with their peanut sauce. They had so many sauces to choose from and I am glad it was served on the side. I would order from here again if I happen to be in the city.

Yelp
This fairly new restaurant is a gem. So many sauces to try so I'll have to come back. I got the chicken katsu which was not dry and breaded well. Japanese curry sauce was solid. The gentleman gave me a sample of Blue Lagoon sauce. It looked unique so I had to try it. It was sooo good. Went well with the katsu. The sides were so good too I finished it all. Top notch Mac salad and the dressing for the salad made me finish my salad! Service was great and they were friendly and fast with the food. Granted it was during downtime but I wouldn't have minded waiting. It's very clean inside and on the smaller side but still a decent amount of seating.

Yelp
Finally got to try this and place it did not disappoint!!!! Portions are huge, chicken Katsu crispy and so so good! The house salad dressing was amazing, a very nice sesame flavor. The commentary miso soup came out hot and full of flavor. I got the Japanese curry sauce and my partner got the crazy spicy sauce. Both amazing and the spicy sauce is spicy! It wasn't a creamy sauce as I had expected which wasn't a bad thing at all. Was so good. I wanted to try more and without me even asking the very sweet lady brought out a bunch of different ones with our food so we could try them!!! I loved them all. The basil sauce is creamy (seemed mayo based) and great, sweet chili had a kick that I loved, teriyaki was amazing. The place is very clean and they play great music. Prices are more than fair, I will definitely be back.

Yelp
I was shopping nearby and saw that they opened up recently. I chose to get their pork tonkatsu with rice, salad, and macaroni salad. Their macaroni salad was very sweet to me. The lady also gave me a sample of their curry sauce and basil sauce along with a small bowl of miso soup. The miso soup was not too salty and the broth was good. The curry was good to dip into and went well with the pork tonkatsu. The tonkatsu sauce was not too thick and went well with the pork. The portion was good and the food was hot and fresh. The breading was not too thick on the pork and the salad was fresh. It's located near H&R Block, in the Sprouts plaza. The staff is nice and the place is clean.

Yelp
The restaurant name "Secret Sauce" is very fitting. The food is definitely made better through their various sauces. Been here a couple of times now and went with the chicken katsu...and both times the katsu was cooked well. It had a thin layer of breading which was just enough to give it some crisp. It had enough chicken in it to make it worthy of actually being called chicken katsu. Even better - it wasn't all oily. There are other protein choices so I'll have to try them in future visits. Out of the sides I got, I enjoyed their macaroni salad the most. I actually think theirs is quite good compared to some other spots that serve macaroni salad. And for the sauces, I went with the Japanese curry, basil sauce, and the tonkatsu sauce. My first time was just the Japanese curry. But my wife and buddy had told me to mix the sauces and this was the hack! The owner was very nice and gave us multiple sauces to try so I was able to mix them together to my liking. Don't get me wrong - each sauce was definitely good on their own...but mixing them was a game changer. So to sum it up...the SAUCES! Try the different sauces because they make your meal. It's nice to find a place like this in the area. There aren't really many places around like this where you can find a good Japanese curry and katsu. I usually would have to go out towards the SGV for stuff like that. And it's always a much better experience when the owner really makes you feel welcome.

Yelp
I've been seeing this place Pop up every time I search for places to eat, so I had to give it a try. I ordered the build your own option and selected: pork katsu, Japanese curry, macaroni salad, & house salad. I also added on some shrimp tempura. The rice was soft and chewy, which I love. The pork katsu were thinly sliced, and it was tender. The curry sauce was flavorful as well. The entire box, in general, was great. It also came with some soup, so it was nice! The only thing I wish tasted a little better was the shrimp tempura. It was soggy, which was unfortunate.

Yelp
This is a cozy little place in the Sprouts shopping center. Clean and well kept. The lady at the counter where one places their order was friendly and helpful. I ordered the chicken katsu bowl with Japanese curry sauce. It was excellent! Curry was tasty and the chicken was plump, juicy and fried perfectly. While I was eating, the woman came by to ask how everything was and offered to get me more sauce. A lovely experience.

Yelp
Delicious food and incredible service! My family was fighting the whole time about which sauce was the best! My favorite is the spicy mayo. My son's favorite was the teriyaki. My husband loved the sweet chili! The ladies were so sweet and they let us try all of the sauces! The miso soup is SO flavorful too. Most restaurants it tastes watered down, but it is so FULL of flavor here. We will definitely be back

Yelp
The food and service are wonderful! Gracious and considerate. And they certainly know how to cook great food! Generous portions sizes. The sauces are very very good. Highly recommend! We just discovered this place today. In the shopping plaza near Sprouts!
