Big Game Opening in Old Fourth Ward, Sustainable Herd on the Menu | Eater Atlanta

"Opening July 11 in Brookleigh Marketplace, this Southern-focused kitchen centers on classic comfort dishes such as crab bisque with lump crab, fried chicken, and a grilled apple‑brined pork chop. The beverage program is wine-heavy and features several small producers from California, Oregon, France, Spain, and Italy, complementing the menu's Southern staples." - Beth McKibben

Secreto is our hidden gem in Alpharetta! Don’t let the strip center facade fool you — once inside, it feels like a midtown spot and has quickly become one of our favorite date night destinations. The cocktails are excellent, and there’s a solid selection of beer, wine, and liquor. We especially love Sebastian, who’s been our server many times — and even when he isn’t, he always stops by to check in and make sure we’re taken care of. The fried chicken alone is worth the visit, but honestly, we’ve never had a bad dish here. Always a great experience.

Google
I visit the Atlanta area several times a year and always try a new place each time. This restaurant really exceeded my expectations. The food, the service, the atmosphere was phenomenal. I had the market catch with the rice & crawfish, and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the pork chops and he said they were done just right. I don’t remember the name of the server, but he was fantastic with a great sense of humor and personality. Was a completely wonderful dining experience. We will be back.

Google
Hidden gem. Great food! Great cocktails. Good wine selection. We decided to go for a pre comedy show drink and ended up staying for dinner. I can’t believe we have never heard about this restaurant. It’s excellent.

Google
My travel agency had a conference in Alpharetta and I was tasked with finding a restaurant for our team. And am I glad we found Secreto. From reservation to finish, everything was perfect. The service was outstanding. The food was so good!(Try the Roasted Red Pepper Crab Bisque! It was outstanding!) And the prices were so reasonable! If I ever find myself in Alpharetta again, I know where I will be! Thank you so much for having us!

Elizabeth D.

Google
One of our favorite restaurants in the alpharetta area. NEVER a bad meal and service is always impeccable. You won't be disappointed! The fried chicken is always flawless always the same. Great wine selection as well! A true hidden gem!

Google
If you want to avoid downtown Alpharetta and Avalon, this is a nice place to have drinks and/or dinner. I love the long bar, and the cocktails are always on point. I really enjoyed the Roasted Red Pepper Crab Bisque and the cornbread. My friend enjoyed what I think was Spinach and Crab (?) dip and the Shrimp-n-Grits. We were too full for dessert, so we had to pass.

Google
We enjoyed a great dining experience here. The food was really good, the service was very attentive, and it was an all around good evening. We started with the bang bang shrimp and it was really tasty. Our entrees were the fried chicken and shrimp & grits which were both very good. We also added the collard greens & cornbread sides which were fantastic (highly recommend you add those). We have no complaints, and our only suggestion would be more relaxing chairs. But that’s a minor consideration and definitely would not keep us from returning. We will be back because the food and service are fabulous!

Google
Inviting and cozy atmosphere. The staff are polite and service is always great. The food has always been excellent and you cannot go wrong with whatever you order. Highly recommend, and we come here whenever we are in town.

Yelp
Let me start by saying there were 10 of us. There was a nice bar, but there was a propblem with their liquor license, (call first if thats important) It was a BD celebration. I didn't hear one complaint!!! We sat at the middle table with the rest of the restaurant around us. I started with the lobster bisque. 5/5 I then ordered the Apple Braised pork Chop, succulent & exquisitely seasoned. 5/5 Someone ordered crabcakes for an appetizer, The crabcakes were fantastic 5/5 Our waiter knew our BD girl & husband personally, so he of course, took great care of us 5/5 Secreto you have been #tonguetested

Yelp
Highly recommend if you are why out here in nowhere Alpharetta. I believe the server was Alana or Alena. Great service, she was nice and handled our large party well. It's a nice atmosphere with large wine wall and tall wooden barn doors. Looks clean. The shrimp was the best item, really good. The chicken with mash was bland and the sting beans undercooked and hard, but overall, I will go back to try something else, really cute place.

Yelp
We discovered this place seven or eight years ago when traveling here for business... but then we couldn't remember the name. Now that we're retired and traveling for fun we stumbled on it again by pure chance. The food, service and ambiance were still as good as we remembered! This time we've written down the name and you should too - definitely give it a try!

Yelp
Very warm and dimly lit sit down restaurant. Great for celebrating a special occasion or when you're in the mood for some mouthwatering cuisine. A bit of a southern theme going on with the menu but they have a decent variety of plates. Scallops were insane - possibly some of the most flavorful scallops I've tasted. Desserts also did not disappoint - very rich, Service is incredibly friendly and quick to offer suggestions. Great dining experience and would love to revisit.

Yelp
Always loved coming here when I lived in GA, and still try to make a visit out here when visiting. I do wish they were open later, but most places in the suburbs don't open past 9 so I get it. If you're coming on the weekend, you'll need a reservation. Overall, wonderful ambience and a great date spot and knowledgeable staff. However, it is a little hard to find when driving there. Drinks are on-point and they've got a full bar. They can be flexible with what they're able to make, and have come through for me multiple times. Food is decent, although quite expensive and the portion sizes are rather small considering the price. Also not particularly friendly for vegetarians. The dessert is what sold me from the first time and has me coming back. Best carrot cake I've had in my life and I still look forward to having this every time I make the trip back to Atlanta. I hope they never get rid of this delectable dessert.

Yelp
Disclaimer: This review is based off of service and the hostess and not the food (which we did not get to try) My mother and I made reservations here to celebrate a special occasion around 530pm. We had reservations and upon arrival the hostess already seemed to have a bad attitude before we spoke. The restaurant had about ten open tables including two for bigger parties and the rest were four tops and one two. The two table had a large party very close by it with 5 kids. While we love kids we wanted to have a quieter evening and we asked politely if it was possibly to get one of the open tables. She rudely looked around and said no and blankly stared. She said we could only sit at the bar but my mother has mobility issues and we could not. We decided to leave seeing how it was not a welcoming environment and there were plenty of open seats. If there were other reservations occupying those tables later that was not said. We wish we could have enjoyed the food.

Yelp
Southern restaurant located in Windward Parkway of Alpharetta, Georgia. It's rare that I give a restaurant five stars, but this one is very deserving of it for many reasons. The ambience is very inviting, relaxing, but yet upbeat. Very pretty Decour and lighting giving you a very nice dinner experience. The service was impeccable. Our server was Maurice. He was knowledgeable of the entire menu, like the back of his hand, witty, helpful, courteous, and fun. Everything I enjoy. Now to the food. When someone suggested eating at a Southern type restaurant while visiting Atlanta, I was all in. Their menu had some classics, like fried chicken, shrimp & grits, cornbread, mac & cheese, collard greens, etc. and is a well rounded menu with many other options like great appetizers, salads, salmon, short, ribs, pork, burgers, steak, and more. For dessert we ordered all three desserts on the menu, carrot cake, raspberry crème brûlée, and flourless chocolate torte. All great but my favorite was the carrot cake. They also offer a full bar and although I didn't have a cocktail, the people that did said they were great. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to be back on my next visit to Atlanta. No matter what you do, make sure you order the cornbread!

Yelp
We made a reservation to come here on a weekend and had no problem getting seated right away. Our server was very knowledgeable and everyone at the table really liked their entree. I had the Shrimp and Grits as a main entree. I decided to sub out the grits for risotto which was an additional $8. I'm not sure what was in their risotto but it was a bit too expensive to switch. Besides that, our entrees were delicious and definitely plan to come back! I'd recommend coming here for a very nice meal especially for a special occasion!

Yelp
One of me and my lovely ladies favorite spots to eat! Sebastien was very attentive and provided us with excellent service during our dining experience! The vibe here is relaxing and compliments the atmosphere of the entire restaurant. We highly recommend the Fried Chicken with Jalapeño Gravy, so amazing! Lunch or dinner you will leave a satisfied customer!

Yelp
We happened to be in the area and were looking for a dinner restaurant. After getting turned around while trying to visit one place, we ended up at Secreto. I'm so glad we did! We were seated immediately, and the service was exceptional. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and a welcoming space. My husband and I both opted for the wagyu burger, which was delicious. The bacon jam accompaniment was the star of the show. Our food items came out in a timely manner and were hot. If we lived nearby, we'd definitely return!

Yelp
Have been here multiple times- it is the perfect spot to bring friends from far away as an intro into upscale southern food. The fried chicken is otherworldly and the gravy they pair it with has no equal (bacon jalapeno) Give yourself grace for eating fried chicken because the green beans that come with are fresh, bright green and perfectly crisp. The service is thoughtful and the bar is very pretty. You would not know you are in a mid shopping center once you enter the restaurant. Love it more every time we come.

Yelp
I went to Secreto for my fathers birthday dinner! We had a large party but they were very accommodating in getting our reservation. Inside, the space is really cozy and warm. Our waiter was super knowledgeable and have recommendations. I had a mezcal old fashioned which was so smoky and strong. For appetizers, we had the calamari and bang bang shrimp which were super tasty! For my entree, I had the pork chop. The broccolini was fantastic and the pork chop, though a little over cooked had great flavor to it. After dinner, we had one of the pastries for dessert. Overall, really fantastic service and thanks Secreto for a great birthday dinner!!

Yelp
I brought my family here for a treat. Once again the food was delicious. I took some photos but was too distracted by the delicious main course and forgot to take more. The location is in a strip mall. One small door which is almost hidden between other shops. Plenty of parking. They have a nice bar if you are early and want to get a drink. We started with cornbread, crab bisque and cocktails. Champagne for the wife, a Black Manhattan for me and an Oxaca Old Fashioned for my son. Loved it all. The tequila old fashioned surprised my son because it is bitter. But that's the point of an old fashioned. For mains we had shrimp and grits, fried chicken and crab cakes. Each of these is heaven on a plate. The portion sizes are large. You won't be hungry afterwards. Finally, for dessert we split slices of Oreo cookie cheesecake and carrot cake. Also had coffee. Again delicious. The coffee comes in a press. I forgot to ask what beans they use. But it has a great flavor and quite smooth. I took off a star because service was a little rushed. But the meal was excellent and I recommend it to anyone who loves a great meal or needs to take someone out for a great meal.

Yelp
Fried chicken and the carrot cake were excellent. Other food was bland or just okay. Service was slow, particularly the bar service, even at the bar. Could certainly use more than 1 bar tender. Bar cocktails were hit or miss. Espresso martini was awful.
google avatar

Martha R.

Yelp
Small parking lot but great meal. Server was knowledgeable and the bartender made great drinks. Make a reservation as they are a smaller spot and can easily find yourself with a long wait at the bar.

Yelp
Had lunch recently at Secreto. It's easy to find in a little shopping center on the slower side of Windward Parkway. The space is one big open room with dim lighting. At lunch it was fairly bright, but I could see it feeling more intimate after dark. The only downside is I didn't see many, if any, two tops. So having an intimate dinner for two isn't likely. The space seemed more conducive to parties of four or more. Lunch was good, but I wasn't wowed. My companion enjoyed his sandwich but we were both disappointed in the fries. They were the seasoned kind, like you'd find at Checkers. The soup wasn't *hot* which made it seem like they had just warmed it up when I ordered it. Service was friendly. Prices seemed reasonable.

Yelp
Amazing service and food! Drove over an hr to try a new place for our anniversary and it did not disappoint! Mellow atmosphere, awesome service....great place for a date night! The fried chicken is a must! We got the carrot cake for dessert, and they even threw in a chocolate cake for our anniversary. Def pricey so not a frequent spot but worth the splurge for a special occasion. Go check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
Great southern fare in a cute and cozy atmosphere. I recommend reservations on the weekends. This is definitely a good spot for date night or birthday celebrations. The fried chicken is delicious as well as the scallop entree. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and bacon jam are great and the bang bang shrimp and calamari.

Yelp
Just got into the Atlanta airport from Guadalajara and I'm crazy hungry. I'm super surprised with how early all the restaurants are going to close. We are staying at the ALoft in Alpharetta so I try to find something to eat when I eventually arrive. I typed in comfort food and Secreto came up. Quite honestly, I was exhausted from travel and didn't expect much. I just wanted to find something to eat in my room so I could go to sleep. Turns out I ordered a family meal. Lol! It's just me and my husband, but that's okay. It was fried chicken (I thought they'd be full pieces on the bone, but they were more like large strips). The meal was supposed to be for four people but there were 7 pieces of chicken. I picked the bacon collard greens and the cheese grits for my sides. The meal also came with a green salad which I didn't see mentioned. The salad had a lot of nice toppings like a variety of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. Grits and greens were yummy. I admit that the grits were a little thick. Could have been that if I heated them in a microwave that they would have thinned out. As I said, tired and just wanted food. Also included were four pieces of cheddar corn bread. It came with like a honey butter. I was a little disappointed about that. I wanted regular butter. The bread was pretty sweet on its own. Finally there was a jalapeño bacon gravy and two slices of carrot cake. So much food that I didn't try the salad or the dessert. Everything was well packed. Well prepared. Labeled. And much better than I expected. I confidently give 5 stars knowing that if I had eaten in it would have blown my socks off. Also... no microwave unless I go to the lobby here. Not gonna do it. That's not the restaurants fault. The food was still at a good temperature for enjoyment.

Yelp
This restaurant is in a strip mall but maintains elegance and romantic ambience inside. Bang bang shrimp was good portion. I enjoyed the red fish (seasoned well) and the crawfish risotto. Fried chicken was also good. Service was friendly and attentive. I would recommend and return.
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
The absolute best meal I have had in this area. The grilled steak was fantastic. The black Manhattan was on point.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Secreto. The food was delicious, great atmosphere and our server, Sebastian, was fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant for locals and travelers alike.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food, great portions and quality, great service and ambiance as well. Would recommend.

Yelp
Great food and service! Sebastian was the best! Had the lobster roll and crab bisque and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Wow, what a little hidden gem! I've heard of Secreto's Brookhaven location but I've never gotten to try it. I was pleasantly surprised to stumble across the Alpharetta location and wow, it totally didn't disappoint! First and foremost: our service was top-tier. Our server was so kind, knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating to our needs. I'm so mad at myself for not remembering his name. But he was great! Icing on the cake: he brought us some of their delicious cornbread on the house. Chef's kiss--perfection! But I'll drop those deets below. We ordered: Fried green tomatoes--app The American wagyu beef burger + side salad The short rib Several margaritas On the house: warm cornbread What a phenomenal meal. Absolutely no qualms on these plates. Everything had flavor and was cooked perfectly. Not gonna lie, I'd probably re-order the exact same meal. The portions are huge--we ate this meal for lunch (and dinner) the next day. We sat on the patio, it was a beautiful evening. 10/10 highly recommend!

Casey P.

Yelp
The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. The food was delicious! Definitely get the cornbread and the red pepper crab soup!!!!!!! They have a strawberry cocktail that is so delicious!! You can tell they use quality ingredients.

ardy f.

Yelp
Great happy hour and very good service at the bar. Their deviled eggs are one of the best!
google avatar

Lynn B.

Yelp
Crowded weekend evening. Seated immediately with reservation. Waiter recommended short ribs and crab cakes. I'm partial about crab cakes being from DMV, but husband ordered. They were delicious - no filler/breading - lump crabmeat. Great choice. Short rib was equally good - tender, full of flavor, served over creamy grits with fried okra. We will return to this Alpharetta gem.

Yelp
When you are loooking for a solid menu, fantastic service that is consistent. Secreto is the type of restaurant that you make your home, find that drink that you love and make that connection with the a dedicated team of people who care about you and what high end dining experience should be. Beautiful inviting atmosphere and a menu that will wow you. Try the signature drink The Southern Passion. Come to this amazing place, make it your own, bring your friends, I guarantee you will have a great experience.

Nicole S.

Yelp
We always love this place! It was my sister-in-laws' BD & they gave us the best warm carrot cake dessert. The flat bread appetizer is delicious. They were able to squeeze us in even though it was busy with a large prom crowd.
google avatar

Christel Y.

Yelp
Excellent ambience, food and service! It was a little pricy for what I got but overall, very good.
google avatar

Cathy P.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for our anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised and happy with our experience. The best appetizer we had was the deviled eggs and I am not even a deviled egg fan! It was absolutely delicious because they used truffle oil in the yolk mixture. I can't even even describe how good this was! You just have to try it yourself. The fried green and pimento tomatoes were okay. It was too much breading for us. The wedge salad was really good too. I saw a few tables order this. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the salmon with risotto and asparagus. The salmon was cooked perfectly! This really was a very nice meal and would highly recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Yelp
Easily a 5 star review!! My friend and I stopped in for an early dinner, 5pm on a Friday. We decided on bar seating because we only noticed one server for the dining area. Service still took a while at the bar. No worries! For cocktails we both tried the Southern Passion. Delicious but filled with ice so for our second round we decided to get the Southern Passion as a martini. For appetizers we tried the Iceberg Wedge Salad - this was your typically Iceberg Salad but with pickled onions (one of my favorite condiments) and homemade Blue Cheese dressing. Without hesitation, I can say this was one of the best Iceberg Wedge salads I've ever had. We also tried the Red Chille Glazed "Bang Bang" Shrimp. A little different then the Bang Bang shrimp everyone is used to. Tasty but small portion, maybe 5 shrimp. For entrees we tired the Grilled Apple Brined Pork Chop, which is served with a corn, bacon, and tomato succotash. I've never ever in my life tried a pork chop in a restaurant. Pork shops aren't really my thing but my goodness! Again, one of the best Grilled Pork Chops I've ever had. It was juicy, seasoned to perfection, and sooooo flavorful. The succotash - unmatched! We also tried the Southern Fried Chicken, served with buttermilk mashed potatoes, garlic green beans and smoked Jalapeno Gravy. Smothered and fried to perfection. I can imagine The smoked Jalapeno Gravy on grits, biscuits, fries, whatever! It's THAT good! No room for dessert, but next time I'm in Alpharetta
google avatar

Alexander T.

Yelp
The place is pricey, but the food was worth it and staff was attentive. We got Southwestern Chicken, Jalapeno Mac & Cheese, Deviled Eggs, Salmon with Rice and several drinks. The only minor pet peeve (aside the price) was that the rice they served to my wife with her salmon was way too salty.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
We eat here about 4 times a year. The food is always excellent. I like the relatively small menu. My wife always gets the fried chicken breast and I normally get the hanger steak. The decor is up to date, very open. It's not a huge place, just perfect for a date night. The wine selection is better than most restaurants I've been to as well. Service has never disappointed. If you're in the area this is a great place to try...
google avatar

Sadie F.

Yelp
From start to finish, this meal was excellent. I was concerned when we arrived by looking at the outside of the building, but the atmosphere is comfortable but nice when you walk inside. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. Appetizers, entrees, drinks, and the dessert were almost perfect. I really enjoyed every flavor and would go back for the carrot cake right now.

David S.

Yelp
My wife and I got to try out this restaurant for date night because saw the great reviews and looking for something different. This place was amazing! Our waiter was very sweet and spent a considerable amount of time explaining their most popular dishes and what they're known for. We trusted his recommendations and went with the southern fried chicken and waygu burger (shared both meals). We got the grits as well for one of the sides. The bacon jalapeno gravy was amazing - right mix of spice and just lip smacking goodness. These dishes were great portions and absolutely amazing - mouth still waters for both dishes given the tremendous flavor for both meals. Will definitely be back and they have some happy hour specials as well! Will be a little on the expensive side but definitely worth it given service, flavor, and portion size!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was delicious. Our server Sebastian was wonderful. Had the fried chicken based on Yelp and it did not disappoint. The gravy was amazing and the green beans were perfectly crispy!!

Yelp
Great experience first time here most recently for lunch with a friend. Very fresh and delicious food, very courteous service, clean and nice dining environment. Will surely consider to come back.

Yelp
Food never disappoints, but the service is not consistent. Drinks are original, but slightly pricey.

Yelp
AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!!!! A couple of my friends visited Secreto for Happy Hour on a Thursday evening and the specials were great and so were the drinks! We ordered all of the Happy Hour apps, which were delicious! The Shrimp & Wagu Sliders were the top 2 contenders! The fried green tomato's were good and the jam on top were slammin! But I would definitely return for the shrimp and sliders! As far as drinks, I ordered the Moscow Mule first, which tasted like watered down sprite and the bartender was soo sweet she let me swap it for a Margarita which was AMAZING, with the perfect amount of liquor! During our visit, I'm not sure if he was the head chef or owner, however he greeted us, spoke to us about the different items on the menu, but RAVED about the Carrot Cake! And if you do NOTHING ELSE ON YOUR VISIT TO SECRETO, YOU MUSSST GET THE CARROT CAKE! Its warm, super moist with strawberries and a light cream cheese frosting thats not overwhelming sweet! You have to try it! Overall, the staff was amazing! Our bartender Sarah was amazing & the food omg! I will definitely be back for a date night to try some of their signature dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at Secreto! Stopped by on Tuesday night for dinner. Made a reservation, and I'm glad I did since it was packed! The restaurant is a Southern/American focused local chain restaurant. We enjoyed the fried chicken($22) which had 3 large servings of chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beens. We also shared a crab cake($16) and each ordered the crab bisque($8) the oil drizzled on it was delicious but the the meat in the bisque is not plentiful. Service was great and attentive. Located in a shopping plaza.
google avatar

Kat D.

Yelp
Very glad I picked this place for my birthday dinner! Our server Valerie was great, friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. I started with the Peachy Keen cocktail- I highly recommend! It's a delicious cocktail inspired by the Georgia Peach. The French 75 was also very good. The portions are great for the price. I was worried about getting too little food but I actually had more than enough. I ended up with leftovers. The redfish was amazing. The fired chicken has a subtle kick to it. Great service, great food, nice atmosphere. 5 stars!
google avatar

Vani V.

Yelp
We've been here several times and really enjoy the food. The fried chicken is so delicious! We've also tried the pork and the shrimp & grits. Everyone is always so nice & I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend Secreto if you're craving some awesome southern-style food!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Great food! Bang bang shrimp was really good. Fried chicken was great! But the crème brûlée was awesome it is a great date night restaurant.

Helmut H.

Yelp
Used to be our place to go BUT now it's poor at best. Food quality has gone way down.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
It's a nice fancy expensive restaurant with nice ambiance. The question is, does the experience justify the cost. The answer is simply...no. Don't get me wrong, parts of the experience were excellent, but there were just too many inconsistencies to justify what they charge. Here's the breakdown. Got a drink at bar while waiting for friends. Although he was knowledgeable, the bartender was not personable and came across as a little rude. Beard/ponytail. There were other service issues as well. For example we were not informed when our table was ready and had to go find out. Also, getting drinks at the table took unusually long. Again, at these prices I would have expected a higher level of attention and professionalism. As for the food, the pork belly was excellent. Fried green tomatoes were very good. The chicken, short rib, and shrimp and grits entrees were good but all lacked pop and in some cases, balance. Slightly bland overall and could have used salt. Based on mostly the lack of attentiveness and value, we will prob try something new next date night.

Yelp
10 out of 10. 5 stars!! 2 thumbs way up. That's it. That's the review. All I can say is drop what you're doing go there today right now. That's some of the best food I've ever had.

Yelp
Food was good! I got the salmon. I loved the dark atmosphere and chill vibe it gave. It wasn't too loud and it's definitely a good place for business or a small friend gathering. Will definitely be coming back
