Seiko Japanese Restaurant

We've gotten takeout here a few times and it's always delicious. Haven't dined there but the place has a good vibe with a fun futuristic aesthetic. Their sushi is unique with wonderful fresh ingredients.

Be wary, portions are small. That is my pinky nail for reference. Was given 1 soy sauce packet for 4 rolls. Quality and taste on par with grocery store sushi.

Seiko had been so consistently a nice experience for dining in and takeout. Even my toddler loves their food. The chirashi bowl is so good!

Place is BYOB. Have dined in and ordered take out before and they are both amazing! 10/10 taste. Highly recommend the hot stone bibimbap! Would go again to try out other items.

My wife and I visited Seiko last week and we were very satisfied with the food. I ordered White Tuna carpaccio for appetizer and I got to say that's my most favorite dish from Seiko. Thinly sliced tuna with a tangy sauce they put in the plate really brings out the flavor. My wife ordered Kamikaze roll and couple other ones. They're all very good, crunchy and filling. Definitely coming back for more.

I love ordering the platters at Seiko. We've gotten the blue mountain party tray and the ocean party tray before. The rolls are fresh and tasty and nigiri is pretty good - not the MOST fresh/tasty but still tasty and had a lot of variety. Blue mountain party tray is our favorite for special occasions - especially the volcano roll and the northern liberty. I really liked this tray because there was a ton of variety and roll-to-roll, it didn't feel like I was eating the same combination of spicy tuna, eel, crab, etc. like some other places. 80 pieces sounds like a lot but the rolls are pretty small, so the blue mountain party tray coupled with maybe 1-2 more special rolls fed 3 hungry people.

I came here around 530pm and ordered the fried gyoza, sashimi deluxe, and the spicy tuna roll. The sashimi was good and the portions were good. The gyoza was crispy and delicious. There is jazz music playing in the background and the lighting is slightly dim. I enjoyed my dinner and the atmosphere of the restaurant.

This is the best Chirashi bowl I've had in Philly (and I've been everywhere). The usual suspects are here - tuna and salmon - along with albacore tuna and striped bass. I requested scallop and mackerel and they accommodated me. The rice is mixed with mushrooms and pickled vegetables. There are two kinds of fish eggs, small and large, and a spicy jalapeño sauce on a couple of the fishes. The portion size feels right and it's very reasonably priced. Wonderful atmosphere right on the edge of NoLibs area. It's BYOB, but †hat's fine with me. I always look at food first. Next time, I will let the chef totally pick every fish!

I was in the neighborhood and felt like having some sushi so I decided to try this place. I walked in and there wasn't anyone else there but the decor was cute and the hostess was so sweet. I got the rainbow roll, the firecracker roll, and the "I love tuna" roll. The rolls were slightly smaller than I'm used to but honestly no complaints because it was the perfect size bite for me. Very tasty. Definitely would recommend.

Amazing experience! The apps sushi noodles... I can't even put into words how great the service was. BYO too! Thank you for making our graduation celebration so memorable. Will definitely be back!

We ordered in from Seiko for Valentines Day, and it was the perfect meal to share and celebrate the love holiday. Their rolls were packed with flavor and creative, but they also had great staples like the miso soup & green salad. I would highly recommend the green salad, as I thought their ginger dressing was superb. I had both the Cap N Crunch Maki and Northern Liberty Maki - they were top notch as far as sushi goes in the city. Fresh and flavorful. All reasonably priced too. Their menu is huge. I definitely plan on trying them again.

Got the Fire Cracker 1 Ich Maki Combo. Welcoming service, quick ordering and food to table. It's BYOB and they can make space for larger groups. I always forget about their lunch specials, but they have great combo entrees and roll specials if you can make it in on the weekdays. Lovely!

The food is great! Nice portions. We ordered so much food and it was very reasonable for sushi! The staff is so delightful and very service oriented. The restaurant is cute and about 10 tables. Cute street to walk along.

Such good sushi!! I went with two of my friends and we all enjoyed the food, but it was a Friday night two hours before closing and service was slow. It takes them a while to make your food depending on what it is. If it's rice, soup, or salad it comes quick but any sushi or sashimi takes a while. They're super nice and clean and the food is so good that I think as long as you go with friends/family and have good conversation you'll be fine. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality and taste of the food, though keep in mind you'll end up spending 100$+ if you buy a lot lol so keep track of what you order.

I had dinner here Thursday April 8th. Since Kisso was closed I looked for something nearby and that I'd not been to previously. Voila. This was the choice. An open, front to back view is what you will find upon visiting Seiko. White interior with red accents. Not hip, not retro. It just is. Comforting in some respects. It's comfortable being what it is. Welcomed by an enthusiastic and smiling hostess, (I could tell by the crinkles at the outer ends of her eyes that she was smiling, even behind her mask.) I took a window seat, which was not a problem given there were on tis wet night only four other diners in. No alcohol on the menu; soft drinks, juices, tea and water only. Probably a goof thing given how hard it was raining.) In any new-to-me sushi restaurant my go to initial order is a spicy tuna handroll. I find that's a give away answer to The Clash's question: "Should I stay or should I go now?" Here the answer was, "ehh, maybe you can stay". A small drumstick sized handroll contained a mash of tuna, sriracha and maybe sambal and sesame oil, with sesame seed and scallion garnish. Uninspiring, but it was serviceable. I should have gone. I'm a nigiri guy. So we took a dive into hamachi, madai, sake (2 portions), maguro. The hamachi and madai were the better of what was one the rectangular, sushi presentation tray. There was some freshness and spring to the fish, though neither glistened nor gave a sweet smell of the sea; and the rice was fairly dense and clumped. None of the fish really had a scent. All pretty anodyne. Of course, they could have had bad odors. I recognize that. It was just that there was no uplifting factor. It was all just very "mehh". One bright spot: the hostess. Attentive, detailed, appreciative. On this gloomy night at Seiko, she was the element of the restaurant that shone brightest and best.

Move over Sakura! Seiko is our new go to place for sushi takeout now. The San Maki combo is my favorite. $19.95 gets you three rolls - shrimp tempura maki, spider roll and a tuna roll. These are quality and fresh rolls that are worth the money. They've got cheap and yummy lunch specials too - two maki rolls with side of miso soup or salad for $9.95 and bento boxes for under $15. Definitely taking advantage of this while we're still working from home.

6/23 Lunch Bento Takeout It's my first time eating at Seiko and I ordered the Spicy Tuna Bento Box ($15). It took about 30 mins for preparation but I'm not surprised after I see how much food there is and I can't wait to try it all. miso soup 4/5 it's your average miso soup with tiny tofu and seaweed. Still hot when I get home. A bit too savory for me. salad5/5 fresh and yummy. Just enough sauce to cover everything. edamame4/5 so much edamame!! Love it. But like the miso soup, a bit too much salt. tempura 5/5 Oh. So yummy. It's crispy and crunchy. The veges are soft oh the inside. The tempura better stays on and it's not soggy at all. Very very well done! shumai5/5 Warm and delicious. spicy tuna maki 5/5 So yum. It's actually spicy and taste fresh. tuna nigiri sushi 3/5 Unfortunately, least favorite out of all. The portion size is great, but the fish doesn't smell fresh. Even with the smell and taste of soy sauce and wasabi, I still smell something funky. Would not order this again. Overall, 4/5 stars! Very nice and friendly service. Good portion size and mostly delicious meal

Food is just ehh. Ordered delivery. Had a lobster salad: very salty but not terrible and a salmon haro maki roll which was very loosely rolled with a more than normal amount of rice. Each piece completely fell apart when trying to pick up to eat.

So I originally had a pretty negative review for this place from a delivery order. Came in today for a redemption run and they succeeded. Staff was super nice, it's a byo, and the prices are reasonable. All the rolls were solid and I would come back, especially since the competition in the area is pretty bougie. Hope they stick around for a while.

We were in the mood for sushi and wanted to try somewhere new to us...hence this place. Honestly, overall, the sushi and sashimi here were just ok but the presentation was absolutely lovely. I also really enjoyed the spicy rock shrimp. The fried green tea ice cream was interesting...the fried part is like tempura, not my cup of tea but my husband loved it. The actual green tea ice cream was lovely and I'm looking forward to having that again. The ambiance was nice (for want of a less lackluster term) with very trendy and "hip" decor...a little dark, mood lighting...maybe take your honey here on a date. Overall where this place really shines is the staff. They were amazing...I've not come across that sort of energetic and bubbly staff in a long time, they we're very eager to please and seemed genuinely interested in the the guest having the best experience. There is Karaoke in the basement, I was told that your party can have the room for the night as long as spend $250 on food. You can hear the festivities from upstairs having dinner and I was itching to crash the party the whole time...I definitely want to try that next time.

Living in Northern Liberties for so long I've been so reluctant to try this place as I'm such a huge sushi snob. But their maki rolls sounded amazing. So I finally tried and now I regularly come on a weekly basis. My favorite go to's are the sweet potato roll, skyfall and kamikazee maki. Brb while I go order some now.

Service was friendly and prompt. I moved here from the West Coast so was used to decent sushi at even budget spots. Here on the East Coast not as many sushi restaurants are around. Let alone are good quality except at a premium price. This place had nice quality sushi at prices that aren't exorbitant. I will be returning.

This restaurant has fresh great tasting sushi and ramen. The best part about this restaurant is the service! This is the second time I've been and I cannot wait to go again. My boyfriend and I are going to make this a monthly date. 10/10 recommend

I had been eyeing Seiko for a while, so I was excited to get invited in to try some of their popular items. The salmon dumplings were excellent. It's a small portion- 2 dumplings, but they are SO good. Fresh salmon envelopes fresh lobster, its divine. The spicy rock shrimp were great. A perfect blend of spicy and sweet, and very crispy. The tuna tartar was awesome. Fresh fresh and avocado with a yummy sauce, makes for a great appetizer. The sashimi platter was all very fresh and the fish was flavorful. The rolls we tried -- the spartan, the northern liberties, and the Cap'n Crunch were all DELICIOUS! Very fresh, and all of the flavors played well together. The space is clean and seating is comfortable, and the service was excellent. Definitely a great date night spot!

This place Rocks ... kamikaze roll was amazing!!! The sushi is fresh and delicious phohie and Kelly were so helpful! Very cool venue ..after spend years in Tokyo this place is the real deal Highly recommend it

Amazing customer service. The service is always fast and attentive even when the restaurant is busy. The menu offers a great selection. The sushi rolls offer both classic options as well as unique combinations. The Cap n Crunch and Northern Liberty rolls are delicious. The seiko fried rice and noodles are also nice options.

First timer and I love it here so much. The waitress Lisa is so adorable and happy and welcoming. Upon arrival she brought us complimentary Saki. I got the rock shrimp which is amazing. It comes with this wasabi cream that is delicious. I got the Lobster Liberty and it's probably my favorite specialty roll I've ever had. Super casual. Don't come dressed up but that's what's great about it. Come for quick sushi around the corner right in N Libs.

WOW! I can't get over how wonderful of an experience we had at Seiko on Saturday. I was astonished that around 5:30-6:30 there was only ONE other group that came in. It was very easy to make a reservation on open table. We walked in and were greatly with a friendly smile and it continued to go up from there. Our waitress helped us by going through all areas of the menu explaining any questions and going on about what the favorites were. It was BYOB but we did not bring anything and the waitress gave us complimentary sake! The yelp also has a free appetizer so we decided to split edamame, it was so good! It had a lot of sea salt on top of it but that gave extra flavor. I also had the crunch roll and northern liberties roll, and can say that it was the best sushi I've probably ever had. We noticed on the flyer that there was a karaoke room. We were walked downstairs to a room that could fit about 20 people and an entire karaoke machine. One can rent out this room and have a certain limit of sushi all while doing karaoke. Why does everyone not know about that?! I would say that the improvement on the menu could be a combo box for dinner, not just lunch. They do have a deal for about 4 different rolls that reduced the price by a few dollars by getting those combos. They need to advertise better because I don't think people know even about this hidden gem?!

Visiting during Covid... they do have seating indoor and outdoor. The waitress (Kelly) was super nice i recommend her 10/10. The food was delicious , i got the Sam Maki Combo for $20 and it is worth it! Prices are not bad at all I'm definitely going to come back. This could be a nice date night spot. It was empty when we came in to dine I'm but people were in and out picking up take out. They also deliver. All in all great sushi spot and they even have Ramen!

Update: just went back 3/29/19 - salmon dumplings are a MUST HAVE. You will think of them long after your meal is over. Possibly the best sushi in Northern Liberties! House rolls were perfectly warm and the flavors were balanced - you'll not leave feeling overwhelmed by any certain flavor. Service was prompt, as was preparation time of our meal, and the staff were kind and polite - attentive but not overly so. Music could be improved - it's mostly mid-2000s easy listening pop music, some are covers. HIDDEN GEM is the spicy yellowtail roll. Flavor and texture was perfect, I didn't even touch any sauces while eating it. Will always forever order it again. Overall, a great, quiet spot to get good food without breaking the bank. Will always recommend

The service is beyond 5 star....super friendly....and to top it off the food is amazing...favorite sushi spot in Philly...drive 45 min for this place...it's so worth it though

Such a great spot. BYO...fresh, delicious sushi and sweet , courteous service. I ended up here because I wanted to take my oldest child to dinner and she is living and going to school in north philly. I did a search with my phone and we ended up here. So glad that happened. The sushi tastes so fresh and the dinner portions are generous and reasonable. We ordered a sushi entree and it came with a fresh ginger laden salad and miso soup. Both were wonderful. Can't say enough about the sushi. So fresh and delicious. My daughter and I both agreed that we will be back. Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Vegetable tempura was tasty, but not worth the price. Unfortunately, everything is overpriced. The rolls were delicious, but noticed that the scallop tempura was not fresh scallops, but rather fried artificial crab. Overall, the food was good and the service was great!

My boyfriend was wanting sushi so he found this spot which coincidentally happened to be in our neighborhood. There isn't much I can say about this place other than customer service was great! Our waitress was super great and fast. Food however was not the most exciting , very bland and not something memorable. Sorry to say ‍

The Salmon Dumplings, oh the Salmon Dumplings! It is lobster wrapped in salmon topped with a light sweet sauce that practically melts in your mouth. This was the highlight of the day. Based on the recommendations of the waitress, my friends and I also ordered the Spicy Rock Shrimp, the Northern Liberty roll, and the Beef Gyoza. The Spicy Rock Shrimp is actually spicy! The spicy mayo sauce had a nice kick of spiciness. However, the shrimps were very tiny and hard to pick up. It was difficult to tell what was shrimp and what was just crunch. This dish was also very small for the price. The Northern Liberty roll was a disappointment. It simply tasted like a shrimp tempura roll and was nothing special. The Beef Gyoza was a nice surprise. It was crunchy and steaming hot! Overall, I would come back just for the Salmon Dumplings and the Beef Gyoza. P.S. Yelp has a free appetizer with purchase of entree coupon on their mobile app! There is also a coupon on Groupon for this place.

Very clean, small, and modern looking restaurant. Not sure whether we had an off or short staffed day because the food took a long time to come out. The bento boxes are a really good deal: entrée, 2 pieces of California roll, miso soup, salad, 3 pieces of vegetable tempura, and 2 pieces of shu mai. Overall, okay experience but nothing out of the ordinary.

I put in a pretty large order through Grubhub and was a bit concerned when it had been an hour and nothing showed up. Called in a they told me that the driver had left with it about 15 minutes ago. Another 45 minutes went by... nothing. I called back in and they were pretty great about the whole thing. Ended up making a whole new order and the woman I was talking to drove it over herself. Food was very good. The original order did end up showing up with the food pretty much destroyed and the driver looking like he had done all the drugs. I woke up this morning and I had an email saying that they refunded me. Long story short I believe that customer service like that goes a very long way. Great job to the Seiko team!

Definitely found a local go to! Huge fan of the sweet potato tempura rolls. I've been craving the yaki udon veggie ever since... crisp veggies, perfectly chewy noodles, and a really tasty sauce. Love that they called us when the order was ready for takeout so we didn't have to just wait outside!

Ordered take out for the first time tonight. Gotta say, I don't give a lot of 5 star reviews, but this joint is a 4.5 easy. Chicken Katsu Don was really good, and a very large portion. Sashimi was good, and again, a very nice portion. Salads, heavy with vegetables, not just a container of iceberg lettuce. Probably, in my humble opinion, the sushi rice, fluffy, wonderfully seasoned, was the best I've ever had in the take-out arena. The place cares about quality, the attention to detail (flying fish eggs lightly scattered over my sushimi, squid ink dashed onto my uni, etc.) We're generally a sumo sushi family, but if you want an expanded menu, this is the place to go!

Went there on a Saturday night for dine in and have to say it was one of the best sushi spots I've tried out here in NoLibs. The food was so good and our waitress Kelly was so awesome and friendly. We ordered two appetizers, two rolls, and a noodle dish and the price was amazing! We also enjoyed a complementary saki. Definitely recommend and will definitely be going back!

When I was invited for a girls night of karaoke I was excited as I have been to many karaoke places in the past and had a good time. The second I walked into Seiko I knew I was in for an underwhelming experience. Although the lead waitress was attentive I found the restaurant to be outdated and just outright dirty. The ceilings were stained, paint was peeling, and all of the furniture and audio/visual equipment just seemed outdated. I felt more like I was doing karaoke in someone's living room rather than in a karaoke bar. I think they are going for a modern look but it just fell short. I ordered a few rolls which were fine but won't be running back here anytime soon. To be successful they are going to need to spruce the place up a little.

My Seiko experience was horrible. I made reservations for January 13th to celebrate my birthday. Booked to room, gave them my card for a deposit to hold the room. A friend told there was a Groupon available. The Groupon was for a 2hr Karaoke reservation with $50 Food Credit. I booked the room the day before giving them my card as a deposit to hold the room. I had a 9pm reservation for a 2 hour room booking. I was well aware they close at 11pm. My reservation should have given me a full 2 hour but there was a party in the room before my reservation. The staff did not go down to kick them until 9:15 pm to which the finally exited at 9:30pm. While waiting for them to clean the room, I asked for my bottle of champagne to be chilled I was told I had to wait until I got into the room. Finally around 9:40 pm, I got into the room. Once we got to the room, we were rushed to order because the Kitchen was closing soon. With the Groupon I was given a $50 food credit. The food was bland tasteless and cold. When ready to close out, the waitress told us we didn't meet the food minimum ($100). This was never told to me before then. Karaoke: We saw there were 6 mics. There was 5 people in my group. We learned that only 2 of the mics worked. Even with those two there was so much feedback we had to stand on the opposite sides of the room. The menu was confusing making it hard to search for songs. The staff came back to the room around 10:50pm to start clearing to kick us out. My group left the restaurant very unhappy. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone. The deposit to hold the room is still on my card. Very disappointed.

I made a reservation on OpenTable for 8 people on a Saturday night! At 7 pm, a nice person from the restaurant called to confirm, and when I got there at 7:50-the table was ready and reserved. This was a huge plus! Especially since it's not the biggest restaurant. The food was delicious! I got miso soup, sushi, and a mochi for dessert. The food came out within 10-15 minutes of ordering, which is fast! Also, the service was excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant and WILL be back!!

Seiko is a small Japanese place in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. The menu has an array of hot and cold Japanese options, as well as a full compliment of sushi nigiri, sashimi, and rolls. The decor is modern, and the service was good. Nothing remarkable, but a good, reliable, neighborhood restaurant.

We had the restaurant.com coupon so got $25 off $50 purchase - however, note that they add 20% gratuity. Our total bill came to $67 before the $25 discount. Two of us ordered: Rock shrimp, veg & chicken tempura, cap n crunch, spicy tuna sushi roll, spicy chicken bulgokee, and yaki udon. Really good price for the quantity of food. For two of us, there was more than enough to dine in and box some for the next day. The server was really sweet. Overall, liked the food and place.

Seiko Japanese Restaurant was an interesting place to eat. I went there with two of my friends around the dinner time of opening, 5 pm. The place was pretty empty since the restaurant just opened. I liked how modern the place looked. We ordered 3 appetizers and 1 sushi roll. We ordered the Spicy Rock Shrimp, Beef Gyoza, Salmon Dumplings, and the sushi Northern Liberty Maki. Everything came in a timely manner. The Spicy Rock Shrimp was really flavorful. The spiciness was definitely there. The only disappointing thing was the size of the shrimp. The shrimp were really small, about the size of your thumb nail. It's not the size we were expecting when ordering the dish. The Beef Gyoza was average. Everything you can expect from a dumpling. The sushi honestly tasted like a shrimp tempura roll with the sauce from the Spicy Rock Shrimp. Still tastes good, but I was expecting more since it is a speciality roll. The biggest surprise was the Salmon Dumplings. It's salmon on the outside with a piece of lobster inside. It was absolutely spectacular. The sauce really complements the fish. I couldn't get enough and we all wished we ordered more. So overall, I would come back to this restaurant. Definitely order the Salmon Dumplings and the Beef Gyoza. This restaurant also has a coupon on Groupon!

The Bento boxes are an incredible value and delicious. You get a lot for your money! My favorite is the chicken katsu bento. Very slight '2001: A Space Odyssey' vibe mixed with some traditional Japanese aesthetic. I also recommend the brown rice tea. Get a pot! The service is very good and the staff are very friendly. The place needs much more publicity! (a hidden treasure in Northern Liberties) I think they are now setup for parties and karaoke too.

This place was awesome! Went here one night after being out all day and wasn't really in a great mood or looking to hang out for a long time. We arrive and there is a table of 6 people leaving and they were all so happy and thankful, that I remember my friend and I remarking on it like what could have been so great. By the end of our meal we were in the same boat! The food is great, they have all the normal rolls you would expect plus some fancy ones. I liked that when I ordered a sushi entree it came with BOTH soup and salad, I love them both so much and hate having to pick. We told the waiter we were starving so please bring out whatever is ready first we don't care about the order and he was so attentive and rushed everything right over to us. For apps we got the seaweed salad which was really good, then shrimp dumplings (which I really liked but my friend was meh about) and beef dumplings (which my friend really liked but I was meh about) - so not totally sure how to rank those. Soup and rolls were good. The ginger dressing on the salad was so good we literally asked the waiter if we could buy some to take home. It's a BYO but since they can't sell alcohol they will offer you complimentary sake, which I thought was such a nice idea! The service genuinely could not have been better, our server was so kind and so attentive and so thankful we were there. They also have a karaoke room downstairs you can reserve!

Had the firecracker, Caesar and the spicy salmon. Spicy salmon was good nothing crazy. Caesar was really good. And the firecracker was excellent! Very good overall. I'd definitely recommend the firecracker to anyone.

I usually order sushi from seiko and it's good. But today I ordered two bento boxes for my bfaOne had spicy tuna rolls and sashimi but the rice was very hard like it was undercooked or old. The fish didn't taste as fresh. I'm so sad and disappointed because it's usually good. Can I get a credit or new sushi? UPDATE: The owner Kwang contacted me and was extremely kind, helpful and offered a credit. Thanks so much for the care you offered!

If I want sushi, Seiko is where I go! It is a great value for the price you pay and you will certainly never leave hungry. I love sitting at the front window and bringing a few bottles of wine with friends on a Friday night. Service is very friendly and accommodating and food is great. It is nothing out of this world, but it fills my sushi need!
