Stephen Starr May Be Returning to His Nightclub Roots in Philly | Eater Philly

"At one point signage went up for “Selden Motors” at the LMNO site, indicating it was once set to become an auto dealership, but the dealer never moved in." - Rachel Vigoda

Cody is a great salesman! I bought a 2015 bmw 328d xdrive from them which was clean and for the most part is a good buy. Only issues was the front tire was flat and was promised a full tank of fuel and they forgot but that’s not a big deal . I did trade in a 2006 Toyota 4Runner and it was for the most part a decent vehicle it had an engine light on which was for a cat code the only code in the software! My trade in asking price was reasonable asking 5-6k but was only offered around 3k and they wouldn’t move on the bmw price even know I paid them in cash ! Now the 4Runner I traded in is on there lot with a price tag of $12900 like I’m not picking them apart i understand they need to make a profit but dang other than that all there cars looked nice and for the most part everyone I met there was respectful and nice. I didn’t really like how they try to force you to leave a review and give them 5 stars I posted pictures of my bmw I got from them and the 4Runner I traded in below I do recommend them but just do more research and don’t move from your prices to much

The lack of quality care for the vehicles they sell leaves a lot to be desired. Especially considering the amount of high end German cars being sold here. When purchasing my car, I asked if regular service will be performed before handoff, they assured me the car would be serviced and inspected. During pickup they even assured me the vehicle was serviced. After handoff I check the car oil and it’s dark brown, slightly gritty, and smells burnt. Clear signs of engine oil well past its service life. It wasn’t serviced at all, probably not even checked. These cars also require a transmission fluid drain and fill every 60k miles as part of maintenance, but they don’t consider that as part of regular service. I asked if they would change the tires if they didn’t pass inspection. They replaced the rear tires in a Mercedes S Class with low quality, made in china, non run flat tires. These are not to manufacturer spec and affect car ride quality. Look at the sidewall difference between both wheels in the photos. The car (like any modern German) doesn’t have a spare, so if it blows you’re stranded waiting for a tow. I now have to purchase 2 OEM spec tires. If you’re purchasing a car here, take all these factors into consideration when discussing a price on the car because you will be paying at least $2,000 more out the door to get these items done to the standard required Cody was great in assisting me with my car purchase process, he’s a real car guy that knows his stuff. But after sales, you’re no longer a priority which is understandable, it’s a dealership. But some transparency would’ve been nice. Even after I placed a deposit, if I knew this would be the case I would’ve walked away and found a better deal somewhere else. I was assured service would be done and it wasn’t, and the tires they threw on this car are useless and have to be replaced before they cause a bigger emergency. Take the added cost into consideration when purchasing from Selden Motors.

I bought my used car completely online and the process was super easy! Everything went smoothly from start to finish. The team was great with communication and made sure I felt confident the whole way through. Big shout-out to Rich in finance — he was awesome! Friendly, helpful, and made the paperwork part so simple. I was a little nervous about buying a car online, but this dealership made it a great experience. Highly recommend! 🚗🙌

Google
Man, what can I say. I stopped in to look at an older BMW and ended up in a beautiful low mileage Porsche. Al was my salesman, but EVERYONE in the dealership helped me out throughout the experience. Vanessa took me on a test drive of the Porsche when Al was tied up. Cody kept me occupied while I waited. Rich got me the BEST rate I could even think of! Even though I didn’t meet Scott until I picked the car up, the guy still emailed me the day of to follow up. I’ll most definitely be back. If not for myself then I’ll be bringing friends here. Great place!!

Google
Bought my CLK63 from them. Flew in from AL and drove it home. In and out of the dealership in under 30 min. Great, honest salesman who took the time to show me the car from 844 miles away. Had no issues all the way back. I'd buy from here again.

Google
Purchased a 2010 Audi S5 convertible for our daughter in August. Wanted to wait to review after a few months of ownership. Car has been a dream and Cody was very helpful in the purchase. He let us look at the car for an hour without interrupting us or trying to sell the car. Once we decided to move forward it went smoothly. No pressure. Thanks Cody and Selden Motors.

Google
If u are looking for a vehicle this is your place. They have a great selection of cars at an amazing price. Awesome dealership and staff. Our sales person was Jim who was amazing and truly helped us out. We also delt with Rich who was also great as well.

Google
I had a great experience purchasing my car here. My salesman, Mark, was great - 10/10 experience. He even referred me to someone to get a pre-purchase inspection before buying the car. The entire process went smoothly and I was able to negotiate the price aswell! If you’re going to buy a car from here, I highly recommend you ask for Mark. He’ll take great care of you!

Yelp
These folks are wonderful! They know and enjoy fine high quality vehicles at fair prices below market value. I purchased a 1991 Jaguar XJS. They were as excited about delivery as i was as a customer. They are car enthusiasts as well! A great pleasure to do business with! A wonderful experience all around!

Brad G.

Yelp
They refuse to make good on a car they sold me that was delivered with thousands of dollars worth of repairs needed. I can't even get them to respond to me after over two months. Sales Manager named Scott is flat out ignoring me. Someone named Nikki (owner, I think) is also non-responsive. I can't believe they're running a business this way.

John D.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I bought a 2019 BMW X5 from Sheldon Motors in Willow Grove, PA on October 17th, and it's been nothing but a complete nightmare ever since. Not even two days after buying it, while driving home, the car gave me a drivetrain malfunction warning. I had to turn around and bring the car back on October 19th -- and here we are, November 11th, and I STILL don't have my car back in working condition. This dealership is an hour and 26 minutes away from me, and trying to get anyone on the phone is impossible. They never answer, and when they finally do, I get attitude and excuses instead of help. I spent $43,000 on this car, and they've treated me like I don't matter. To make things worse, they didn't even offer me a courtesy car or any help while they've had mine for weeks. I've had to Uber everywhere because of their complete lack of care and responsibility. And here's something they don't want you to know -- the reason they have so many "good" reviews online is because they make people leave reviews right in the office before they finish the sale. They literally pressure you into giving them a five-star review before you even get the car home. That's why their ratings look good, but the reality is completely different once they get your money. Please, do not buy from Sheldon Motors. Save yourself the time, stress, and frustration. I wish I had seen a real review like this before I ever stepped foot in that place.

Nicholas F.

Yelp
Photos did not identify obvious damage. Most dealers point out known flaws to be up front and avoid problems, this dealer did not. I flew cross country to buy the car after leaving $1000 deposit on a Thursday. Two days later on a Saturday, I arrived to buy the car and noticed the damage. I told them I had to think about it and we pondered how to move forward. They considered reducing the price but I just did not get a good vibe from the manager. I asked for half my deposit back once I decided not to proceed. I explained that the omission of the damage is why I felt the compromise was the right thing to do. He said a deal is a deal and kept the $1000 and we parted ways. I see on Yelp they have a two star rating out of five so I am not the first victim here. Wish I had looked here sooner and avoided them.

Wsup O.

Yelp
Never ever buy car from there! the car missing part the pain peel off the part this is my bad experience ever in my life I warning everybody. I just got a car from there. They all lie. Check the paperwork before you sign. That is sick in my life. Please! watch out Selden motors horrible I wish I never buy car from there

Erick S.

Yelp
Please Please do yourselves a favor and read the reviews. There is a reason there are over 50! Horrible reviews all for similar situations. I wish that I had! My specific review is that the dealership advertised a Maserati for sale. I am In AZ Selden Motors is in PA. When I phoned I was asked for a deposit, which i gave right away. Only after I sent the deposit did i receive the docusign document stating that the deposit was nonrefundable. Not a big deal because I wanted the car. Well, fast-forward to the next day. I paid for the car in full. 5 days later the car was still not running and available to pick up. Run around after run around BS excuses of we are safety testing it, Scott is driving it home to make sure its runs great... all buying time due to the car wasn't right to be sold in the first place. I cancelled the purchase process. Which by the way, I never had received or opened any paperwork to sign for the car or purchase it due to the mechanical condition. So I have now paid for a car that I haven't signed paperwork on, and doesn't run proper. You would think I would receive my money back right? nope! after 2 plus weeks of constant calling into Scott Kloncksin the Manager at the dealership I would get some sort of reply. NOPE. So i notify the Attorney General of PA. File a claim against Selden Motors. Only after Selden perjured themselves on the AG reply did they send part of the money back. They short paid it by 2K dollars. Again more texts and calls to Scotty boy. I finally received 1K of the monies owed to me. The dealership wants to keep the 1K deposit on the car that they advertised for sale that didn't run, and I couldn't even pick it up after paying for it.

Mike M.

Yelp
Please please please do yourself a favor and do not buy here. This is one of the worst car dealers I've ever dealt with. Read all of these reviews, read all of the complaints from Better Business Bureau and stay away. Not only are they unpleasant and unprofessional, they sell damaged misrepresented vehicles that you will be on the hook for. I purchased a used BMW from them a few years ago and the issues started within hours of leaving the lot. Thousands of dollars later in repairs and it was still a disaster. I checked to see if things have changed and clearly based on the recent reviews both here and from BBB, they have not and are still under the same management. I cannot stress enough, do not waste your time or money, these are not people you want to deal with.

John K.

Yelp
I wish I had read these reviews before I purchased 2 cars at the same time. Air conditioning was not working they said it just needed gas. So many things wrong with our cars. Terrible company to deal with. Stay away . Used car salesmen got their bad name from these people

Susan S.

Yelp
Scott and Mark were a nightmare to deal with in my out-of-state purchase. Expect them to totally ignore questions or delivery notifications upon deposit. They were the opposite of professional and think it iz a mistake they got 2 stars..should have zero.

Yelp
Sold me and my son a piece of junk that didn't even run  for 30,000 miles before burning up a valve, rendering the car un-drivable. Dealer wants $10-12K to replace entire motor. Not worth it. Just stuck with a payment on a car that doesn't even run. We had to add oil on our 2 hour drive home the day we bought it. I should've listened to my gut that day. Warranty they sold us was useless. DO NOT BUY from this dealer.

Frank X.

Yelp
***major red flag*** I want to share my buying experience of a Porsche Boxster with Selden Motors. I found the car online and visited the dealer to inspect the car. I immediately noticed it was wet on the button of the transmission and the undertray cover was missing. I should have turned away from it at this point. But the manager Alex explained to me that there was a minor leak with the transmission cover and their 20-year experienced mechanic had fixed it professionally and guaranteed everything is perfect now. Given the car has all the specs that I wanted, I decided to trust their words (stupid me). When I was signing the buying contract, the guy there tried to convince me sooo hard to get a warranty for this car, he was like "even just the three-month long one, you should get one". For sure they knew about there is a big problem with the car and a huge repair bill will be coming my way. A week after I took the car home, the rear end of the car started dripping oil. I had to bring it into Porsche to get it check. It turned out the entire transmission was fucked, the transmission case was cracked and some rubber seals were completely torn. The way that Seldon Motor professional mechanic fixed leaks was to use JB welds for the cracks and some epoxy glue for the rubber seal leak. It was laughable. I will upload some photos later. I ended up having to replace it with a new transmission which is $20k alone then plus labor cost. I tried to reach out to them and ask for some explanation, zero response. After reading some other's similar experiences, I feel like this dealer just buys rare cars with big hidden problems from auction, then they patch the problem up and flip them. Btw be prepared that they will never mail you the title unless you keep calling them despite they will never answer your phone. I am sure they will come after this review and reply with some bs excuses.

Christopher H.

Yelp
I just bought a Porsche Cayenne at Selden Motors sight unseen, and had a very positive result. It was a leap of faith, putting a non-refundable deposit down, and then flying up from North Carolina to see the car and buy it. Scott and Justin couldn't have been more reliable, trustworthy, responsive and just nice to work with. I had never bought a car that way, which was a bit nerve racking. But the car was exactly as described, and the guys at Selden made the process enjoyable. Thank you.

Hl E.

Yelp
Oops Watch Out! Bought a car from out of state, car was not equipped as advertised, car had warning lights on and needed repair, car title has a lien on it! What a Mess!

Michael G.

Yelp
(minus stars) I bought a 2012 Jaguar XF White, will the extended warranty, in February 2022. it's now June 2022 I'm having major problems with the engine vacume hose which I was told was my fault‍. Was also told the warranty wouldn't apply because an small rodent chewed on the hose. zmy car has been sitting in their repair shop fora week, being paid zero attention to. How about they haven't even ordered the replacement part yet. All I was told was their labor fees are $130+ an hour. Not looking forward to this bill.. Another thing , as soon as I bought the car, I called back the salesman John, he wouldn't answer, nor return my calls. Felling really ripped off!

Yelp
Purchasing a used vehicle is an inherently stressful experience. Finding both a dealership and staff that alleviates that stress and delivers quality service is no small feat these days. Selden Motors is absolutely a dealership worthy of your time and trust. I found my 2015 Audi S5 at their dealership through Autotrader.com and live close to 2600 miles away. I worked directly with Jake at Selden and was absolutely impressed with his professionalism and communication throughout the process. Everything about the vehicle was communicated clearly upfront and even after sending a deposit, there was no change in tone of handling of the sale. This was key, as there are many businesses that will change completely after a sale is nearly complete -- not the case here. Jake was a standup salesman and personally involved to the very end. I had the car inspected by my local Audi dealership after delivery and the condition is even better than expected, both mechanically and visually. This easily could have been an insanely stressful process but instead, it was seamless and everything went as I had hoped. The car is impeccable and everything I had hoped it would be once delivered. Selden Motors is the real deal -- definitely consider them when shopping around for your next ride.

Kevin F.

Yelp
They sold me a car with a bad transmission and refused to repair it the salesman Scott lied to me stated that car was mechanically sound and it wasn't.

Yelp
Absolutely awful customer service. Was working with an "employee" named Dan to buy a car. He put together a bill of sale and we made plans to place a deposit the next day. That night, despite having been in contact with Dan every day this week, he sold the car from under me. Never, ever use this business for anything but to turnaround.

Sven B.

Yelp
Sold me non existent extended warranty! Refuse to give money back! Said they sent to Capital One but they never received it! Reported to police and Attorney General's office! ‍‍‍‍‍

Nick D.

Yelp
Jake was very helpful, polite, and respectful. He was awesome throughout the process and was not pushy at all. He was very easy to talk to and would highly recommend him! The general manager however was super pushy and thought he could give me an attitude throughout the entire process. He wouldn't want me to leave to get a coffee/food because he was so thirsty for a deal. He thought he could get over on me because i am younger, more successful, and better looking than him. He is a thirsty for deals and honestly made me realize i did not want the car anymore. He kept saying "what is your number to make you buy the car today"? He kept saying no, to my number. Eventually we came to a deal and i realized i didn't want to purchase the car anymore and need the night to think about it. He was very angry and stormed out of the room like a toddler. It was honestly hilarious and realized i made the right decision.

Yelp
The ABSOLUTE WORSE, experience. I was there on 1/22/24 looking at a 2015 Xfinity QX70s, 65k mi. Although it had to be jumped off and needed an oil change, Al H. (my salesman) insisted "you're getting a new battery and an oil changed whether you like it or not." We laughed and completed the test drive. After the test drive, Al took the vehicle back while I waited. The General Manager, Scott started to converse with me and asked If I'd like to place a hold on the vehicle. I agreed to the hold of $1000.00. On 1/24/24, My Credit Union informed me that they we're unable to finance the vehicle because it was over 7 years old. Well, I contacted the dealership and informed them of the issues. Scott, then says, "Well you signed a Non-refundable partial payment, and I changed the oil and battery (which they were going to do anyway, so that's no favor for me) because you agreed to buy it by Monday Jan 29th" This was NOT a hold in which he asked me to sign. The form also stated that "Purchaser may cancel this contract and receive a full refund (Including any non-refundable partial payment made) at any time with written letter of cancellation. Well, I sent that email to Al on Wed 1/24/24. Al and Scott both stated that they need to contact the dealership's owner to see if he'd agreed to return my $1000.00. Of course, they didn't call me back so I continued to call them and Scott answers and say, "Look man, he's not returning your refund, it's not our fault your bank wouldn't finance the vehicle, you should check with your bank before coming here. At this point, I was livid and argued that You, Scott, LIED!! You said it was a hold. I requested that the Owner of the dealership call me which haven't happened. After the call ended, I contacted the consumer protection agency and Better Business Bureau and I am NOT giving up without a fight. Loyalty goes a Loonnnggg way and clearly Selden Motors lack that!!!.

Yelp
Financial Fraud was committed by the F&I manager Pete Cozzi, when I took delivery of my Porsche last year. He suggested I buy GAP insurance for $995. When I went to sell the car, the insurance company had no record of the policy or the VIN number of my vehicle. Selden Motors has not returned my calls. Charlatans and cons masquerading as car salesmen. Avoid.

Richard M.

Yelp
Horrible Dealership!!! If could give them a NEGATIVE STAR rating, I would! I have purchased over a dozen cars/trucks in the past 10 years. Selden Motors is by far the WORST place I have ever dealt with. Shame on me for not doing my due diligence beforehand. I should have known better. First and last used car I will EVER buy online. When they shipped the car to me from PA to SC it arrived damaged. Three deep dents along the driver side roof line that were NOT there nor disclosed in the photographs, videos or vehicle description. Another error on my part as I should have never signed for/accepted the car to begin with upon delivery. I've taken the car to get an estimate from a local, reputable body shop (who has done work for me in the past) to fix the undisclosed damage totaling $2500. When I notified Selden Motors of the extent and cost of repairs, they (the sales manager) offered an offensive $500 which is 1/5 of the amount needed to repair the damage. Additionally, I had the car checked out by a local dealership and a private individual who actually buys and sells Jaguars who both told me I was RIPPED OFF. I realize it's a 2006 Jag and that signs of normal wear and tear are to be expected. There is also a LONG BURN mark on the interior console that WAS NOT disclosed/represented in their online sales postings.... DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE CHEATS!! I rarely ever give reviews but I'm making an exception for these folks, please save yourself a lot of aggravation and buy elsewhere. I have called, left numerous messages and have spoken to everyone except for Alex, the owner. It has taken them weeks to respond. The sales manager "suspects" the dents to the roof were done in transit (which THEY supplied and I paid an additional $600 for). I HAVE ASKED FOR A REFUND AND TO HAVE THE VEHICLE PICKED UP! I have contacted an attorney and been advised to contact the Better Business Bureau as well as posting this review on Google which are my next steps. Not only was I overcharged, but the damages both interiorly and exteriorly were NOT disclosed. Let this and the other reviews speak for the caliber of business Selden Motors conducts. **See attached photographs

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! Scott made it Super easy for us with no pressure, and great pricing. Rich was very fast an efficient with the financing. They make you feel like family. We lost our Ford Flex in an accident so when we found one here at Selden Motors we were so excited. Clean, comfortable with low miles and a great price. I would definitely recommend Selden motors to any one I know! You won't be disappointed.

Carol L.

Yelp
What a pleasure doing business with Selden Motors. They could not have been more helpful. Great service, great selection, fairly priced, really good follow through. This is the second car I have bought from them and I could not be happier.

Mike E.

Yelp
Daniel is very nice and is very responsive, Scott on the other hand is your typical used car salesman snake. (unresponsive after sale) Look closely at what you want to buy. Brake pads all the way around and rotors on the front, also struts and shocks on the vehicle I bought. (additional 2k) They are very up front about not letting a 3 party look at the car/truck before you buy. I was out of state and found out the condition of these parts upon getting inspection. I was told they do go over their cars before they sell them, but I will let you be the judge of that.

Jane W.

Yelp
Purchased a Audi A5 convertible from Eric about 3 weeks ago. Happy with car so far - no issues. But it did not have a manual and they said they would get me one. That never happened as they pushed me off a few times and then stopped answering my calls. I can say, however, that i am happy with the car and the price was fair. the salesperson, Eric, was also very informative and helpful. Update: turns out the car manual was on the navigation screen. Soo, all worked out in the end.

Marlo T.

Yelp
I previously visited Seldon Motor where I met Daniel the salesman. He inquired about what vehicle I was looking for, which was a Mercedes E550. Daniel called me a few days later and told me my car was available. On 04/23/2022, I returned a test drove my vehicle. The showroom was clean, car selection was good, low mileage cars and pricing was comparable in my opinion. You can check out the cars of your interest, with no pressure. I was financing my vehicle and met Rich & Scott. The deal with my vehicle was smooth. The team at Seldon are professional and courteous. It was a good experience, for which I will be returning, when the time comes for our next vehicle. The contract was plain and clear, no sneaky hidden fees, which sets them apart from other companies I've dealt with. Good job fellows. Thanks again.

Fredrik P.

Yelp
I bought a car from them for 65k They did not even wash it. Horrible service. The car had everything wrong with the engine. Had to drop another 5k to fix it. Can absolutely not recommend them. Go somewhere else if you can.

Yelp
Don't buy from this Dealer. I decided to purchase a 2010 Mercedes-Benz from them. The salesman Scott told me that the car was inspected and ready to drive. After I put money down and signed all of the papers, the car didn't pass the DMV inspection because it has a mechanical issue. I also found out that the odometer reading on the sales paper that I signed was different from the original odometer on that car, so I decided not to buy this car because the car was not as described. I was also afraid to take the car because of a mechanical issue. I asked the salesman Scott to refund me my money that because the purchase process wasn't completed and I didn't have any possession of the vehicle at all, but he refused to refund me anything. He told me that you already signed the paper and the money you paid is not refundable. I told him that I signed for the car with certain miles on it with no issue, but you gave me a car with different miles on it with mechanical issues, and not as described. I told him that I didn't change my mind, I still need the car, but the car as you described. Give me the car matches the information I signed and I will take it without any refund. At the end I didn't take any car and I lost my down payment Money. So I suggest not to buy from this dealer, because there are a lot of hidden issues covered under "as is" contracts.

Yelp
Bought a 2012 BMW X5 from Selden Motors. They do not allow buyers to take their cars to a neutral mechanic for review prior to the sale. I two concerns when I bought it. One was that the power steering felt somewhat stiff, like it wasn't fully operational. The other was vibration at speeds above 60 miles per hour. I took the car to a mechanic in my town who ran a diagnostic on the steering and told me that the power steering pump was losing pressure which would account for the stiffness in the performance. I took the car back to Selden with this information. They had their mechanic check it out. He admitted that the steering was "a little stiffer than it should be" but the dealership refused to do anything about it. While the car was there they also said they fixed the vibration, but they did not. I took the car back to my mechanic. He said the vibration could be from a number of things including worn out struts. Combined, these repairs could cost me over $2500. It was clear to me that this dealership plays "rope a dope" with their clients after the sale, delaying responses to my phone and text messages, insisting I leave the car overnight when they knew this was a hardship for me, and ultimately doing nothing that solved either problem. My suggestion: insist on having an outside mechanic look at the car you are buying, no matter how good it seems. They don't call them used cars for nothing.

Yelp
For years I have been driving by this exotic used car dealership on a corner of Butler Pike in Conshohocken, PA. I would always slow down and hope to catch the red light on the corner so I could oogle and fantasize about having one of the cars on their lot. Lotus, Maserati, Jaguar, Land Rovers, and always plenty of Porches, Beemers and Mercedes... Dream Cars... Last month my 2007 Mercedes convertible was starting to need servicing that would be more than the car was worth. I loved that little 2 seater hardtop convertible, but it was time for a change. I looked at a lovely Porsche boxter at a local Porsche dealer and could have gotten one in the mid-twenties... but I saw a couple of them on Seldon's lot for a lot less! And while I was wandering around I spotted a car that gave me goosebumps... for a lower price that the Porsches! It was a 2009 Jaguar XKR Turbo coupe... Black on black. It was love at first site. I was not even thinking Jag as I thought it would be outta my price range, but this baby was not mid twenties but was high-mid teens! I rushed home to look it up on their site. It was $17,500. I searched Cars.com and other sites that said a fair value for this car was $26,000k. One site said it was not only a fair price, or a good price but a GREAT price! I liked at its history and they had originally priced it in mid twenties but every couple of weeks it was lowered... These guys work on volume not squeezing each vehicle it seemed. It seemed too god to be true. I looked up the CarFax. It was mostly one owner from NY who moved to FL. They then traded it in at a local Jag dealer who then sold it to Seldon. I called the dealership and they remembered the car, looked it up and gave my mechanic a green flag on the car. The guys at Seldon even allowed my mechanic to use the lift at a garage next door, so he could check the car out for me. There was no downside to this car... at this price. I bought it August 2 and have been loving it for the last month... and getting 'looks' wherever I go in this baby. Scott handled the deal for me and I got a good trade in value (the owner even gave me more than he first offer for my trade) and for under $300/month I am driving what was, when it was made, the top of the Jag line. Scott, Eric and the owner were great.. and this is coming from a pain in the ass! LOL Even the guys who prepped the car for delivery were very customer friendly. I will look to them again... when its time for a change again. Michael C. Phila. PA September 2019

Yelp
They were pleasant and helpful while they were trying to sell me a car and made the process fairly painless but please note that they also have dishonest business practices. They talked me into GAP insurance which in itself is OK but when I refinanced the car and it was time to reimburse the balance of the funds they ignored my attempts to get them to reimburse and even ignored the insurance carrier. Looks like someone else on here also posted with the same issue. Now I am out several hundred dollars due to their crooked manner of operation. In addition they hid defects on the car which have since been rectified at my own expense.

Yelp
Purchased a car after a test drive. Was told the car was in great shape. Had a clean car fax and Scott even gave us $100 off to replace a cosmetic piece on the inside and contacted the previous owners service person to verify item we were concerned about. I felt confident. Well after purchasing the only extended warranty allowed(cars protection) for $2399 the car ended up in the shop in about two weeks after owning it. The total repair bill was almost $2200 of which we had to pay over $900 of that bill because of small print of cars protections guidelines. We had the car in the shop and made a huge repair payment before our first car payment was due. The amount on this one and hopefully only repair equals a years worth of payments. We purchase a car at least once every two years and this dealer is on our DO NOT BUY list. Just got the car back this week after being at our mechanic since August 30. FYI never EVER buy a car from any dealer that will not offer at a minimum a 30 day 3000 mile warranty from the dealer. Drove several thousand miles after the warranty works was done. Had to spend several thousand more dollars replacing the oil cooler coolant nipple, cold start vacuuum lines, valve cover gaskets and the air suspension compressor. These items were not covered by the extended warranty company. Buyers beware!!!

Yelp
They had the car I wanted, and i drove an hour to get there because of that.  I did like the car, but being a high end dealer, and being accustomed to dealers standing behind their cars, I am afraid I did not pay appropriate attention.  The questionable tactics started when I put $2000 down, and didn't realize they claimed it was "non refundable" !  C'mon, i saw the car a total of 20 minutes.  Second surprise came at closing when i realized that unlike nearly everyone else in that business, they did not offer any 10,20,30 day warranty!  C'mon.  Got home and when i restarted the car, "service required" immediately displayed on the dash !!! what service?  I got no manual, but WHY wasn't this addressed prior to selling to me???  The oil was down 1/2 quart and I have no idea when it was changed last, the radiator took 1/2 gallon, and the washer fluid took an entire gallon.  I know, shame on me for not walking out, I know better.UsefulFunnyCool

Yelp
Purchased a used SLK from Selden Motors, upon removing the steering wheel at a later date, we found no air bag and a device to "fool" the dashboard light. Contacted Selden and no reply. Currently taking this matter under advice from counsel. Seems they're only interested in selling cars and not responding to customers.

Yelp
I would give this dealership a 0 if possible. They do not deserve the time of your day and will lie to your face. The owner of this dealership clearly does not care about the reputation of his business, nor the customers he does business with. This dealership LIED and charged me for a warranty through a third party. They claimed this coverage was bumper to bumper, electrical... etc to find out one month later that NOTHING was covered just a few odds and ends, and a car that needed thousands in repairs, including door handles, tire pressure sensor, and now and issue in my drive train. I was charged 4,000 for this warranty and have tried contacting Scott so many times with no resolution, a bad attitude and no acceptance of responsibility. I have been in contact with the warranty company and keep getting pushed around departments, and told that the dealership needs to reach out to refund my money. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMEND PLEASE SHARE WITH ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS!!!!!

Yelp
Sent them a message via CarGurus with no response to a vehicle they had listed. Called them and the lady took my phone number down because apparently the salesman was out. It's been 2 days and I Never did receive a call or anything from them.

Yelp
Do NOT purchase a car from Selden Motors. Two days after I drove the car I began to have MAJOR problems. I purchased the 4-year warranty at the time of sale, but still ended up spending THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in repairs--several times. I've had the car only 7months (purchased it with only 29K miles) and traded it last night to a reputable dealer and bought something reliable. Scott makes promises that HE DOES NOT KEEP and tells you what you want to hear. I was also promised a new tire and it was documented in the pre-sale paperwork, but Scott refuses to return my calls, emails and even a letter send certified mail. I have an attorney involved.....

Yelp
Don't buy a car from Selden. I purchased a car and paid cash and it literally ran for 1200 miles before the engine seized. The warranty company denied coverage even though it was a full powertrain warranty. $4000 for new engine, over $1000 for a rental and $500 for towing and diagnostics. Go to a true dealership where they stand behind the vehicles they sell. This place is a disaster.

Yelp
Buyer beware. I should have read the Google reviews before purchasing a car here. If you do buy a car here have your own mechanic check it out. This place has their own mom and pop but that's the problem. Drove the car off the lot just to get it on the highway to hear the awful wear on the rear wheel bearing. I immediately took the car back and told them to test drive it. The sales rep just told Me it was response from the engine and gas pedal.... Really, little did he know I sell fleet maintenance for a living. ( still shame on me for not getting the car checked out by my own mechanic first ) I had them send it back to their mechanic and the owner, Alex typed me up and email ( which I still have ) stating the noise was coming from the after market exhaust.... Sure no problem, I responded, I will be picking it up and taking it into the OEM for a second opinion. The next morning I called to pick up the car and spoke to the sales rep, I told him I was going to grab the car in the afternoon.... He said what? I saw that car on the lift at the mechanic this morning, can you please grab it tomorrow.... The next day I follow up... Your car is done, it did in fact have a bad wheel bearing at the rear differential.... I respect them for taking the responsibility to fix what I heard, however I think it's Incredibly dis honest that the owner of The dealership tried to hide the issue, I mean really, now you get this negative review which reflects poorly on you, your employees and your business. I was going to hold off and not post since they did fix my immediate issue, but now, 2 weeks into driving the car and 300 miles later, the check engine light is on and the cruise control is flashing. Do yourself a favor, spend a little more, buy from a real dealer, get your Own mechanic to look at the car, or Buy the warranty they offer, you won't regret that! If anyone wants the email proof of The owner trying to get over on me, please don't hesitate to send me a comment!

Yelp
These people are complete frauds. STAY AWAY and DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THIS CRAP DEALERSHIP. They purposely avoid inspecting their cars to avoid having to fix the necessary things that should be done before selling a car. Then, when the customer calls to inform them that the car needs all new brake pads two days after making a purchase they are unable to call you back and are nowhere to be found. I would strongly recommend avoiding this place.

Yelp
Recently bought a car from Selden and everything went great. There was a small issue after driving it off the lot but Eric made sure to take care of me; overall very good experience

Yelp
BUYER BEWARE!! Don't be fooled by the beautiful looking array of vehicles on the lot. None of them have had any type of vehicle service. This dealership is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and they have had at least 9 complaints filed against them. Several check engine lights went off during a test drive and I noticed a few other things wrong with the car that they told me they would fix. I read all the positive reviews and thought this was a high-end classy kind of dealership. They most certainly are not!! The backup camera was broken, and the tire pressure monitors were not working. They promised to fix them prior to me taking possession of the vehicle. They did not fix them. I immediately called Chris Murphy (who was knowledgeable and professional) and he promised to make amends. Then the Coronavirus hit, and they sent me to some guy named Eric. I spoke to Eric for two months with promises to service my vehicle as soon as they opened back up again. Eric stopped responding to my phone calls and text messages. From talking to people in the community he is no longer working there, and this dealership is gaining a reputation for not being reputable. Treat them as if they are one of those used car dealerships on Roosevelt Boulevard even if they have a Maserati on the lot.

Yelp
Don't buy a car from here. Bought an Acura for 5000 after taxes and now I have to spend 2000 on repairs. The battery died after leaving the car off for a few hours and this must've always been a problem. However, every time I went to the dealer to check the car it was already started for me. I guarantee you it's because they needed to jump start it every time it was turned off for a while. Seriously these guys suck, go lease a car or buy from a more reliable dealership. I hope these guys go out of business.

Yelp
Worst case of people losing to your face you'll ever meet. Bought a car that afterwards we discovered was illegally sold in Pa for safety standards & completely ignoring us. Contacted PA Attorney General & was told Seldon Mtrs wouldn't respond to complaint. Advised us to take to court. Car totally unsafe to drive, front suspension falling apart, frame rusted through, etc. too many wrongs to list. Have bought several cars over years & nothing compares to this horrible experience. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!!

Yelp
I do not recommend Selden Motors at all. I bought a 2004 Honda Pilot less than a week ago. I bought this car under the impression that it had just passed inspection and emissions. The very next day I took the car for an oil change and asked my mechanic to do a courtesy inspection. The car had a bad wheel bearing which would NOT have passed inspection. It also had an evap code that would NOT have passed emissions. The shifter cable needed replaced, and the wire housing needed replaced as well. The inspection/emissions stickers were invalid stickers and Selden motors couldn't even give me an inspection report or tell me right away who did the tests. The check engine light came in 2 days after I had the vehicle. It has come to my attention that they most likely disconnected the battery to get the check engine light to go out long enough for me to buy the vehicle. The salespeople don't seem to like speaking to women either. I called them with these issues and was basically blown off. I had a male friend call and they spoke to him. When I showed up in person to speak to them, the salesperson wouldn't even look at me when I was talking. Just kept looking and speaking to my friend. (Male) This is a shady dealer. Buyer beware. Take your business elsewhere. I'd give them 0 stars but that wasn't an option.

Yelp
Bought my first car in 13 years (thx to company vehicles) from Selden in April. Identified a cool Audi A4, test drove it with Scott and nailed down the paper work with Pete. Both great. A few weeks later something came up with the car and I immediately talked to Eric their repair guy. He was all over it and had me bring in the car right away and rectified the situation using their repair shop. Can't say enough about how these guys took good care of me before during and after sale. Appreciate you guys.

Yelp
Buyers BEWARE! I bought a very nice looking 2007 Range Rover sport from Selden motors in September. It was cosmetically in amazing condition and they told me it had gone through a very thorough inspection before sale. This was a lie, I was handed a faulty key that was $300 to replace off the rip. They would not replace this for me. With in a week the drivers side window and brakes went. They also were going to charge me for these repairs as well, I went else where to have this done because I did not trust them. Please save your pockets people there are many other reputable used car dealers in the Philadelphia area. One star cuz I can't put 0.
