"Polanco has every option imaginable when it comes to restaurants. And Anzures, the neighborhood just to the south, has Selene. It’s located right underneath a strip club and near a couple bigger and fancier taquerías, but this is where you’ll find the best al pastor in town. The key difference between Selene and their competitors is the ratio of meat to cheese—theirs features lots of pastor, with cheese as a garnish—and the crispiness of their meat. This spot is the definition of “if you know, you know,” when you ask locals." - Guillaume Guevara

Great options for prix fixe lunch starting $30, grilled calamari and seafood orzo with red sauce were amazing! Everyone loved the meals and Greek Napoleon dessert, not crowded even in holiday decorated atmosphere. Food does take some time to arrive so plan at least 2 hours here for lunch.

I really want to say this place has one of the best fish Branzino that i’ve ate before. This is a must go place to eat in NY. The place is so modern and beautiful and young. Worthy for the food.

Went here during Christmas for their Tipsy Winter Wonderland experience for $49pp and it was def worth it for bottomless brunch! Service was super quick and attentive, they kept bringing out drinks after drinks once you finish them. The sugar cookie waffles were mediocre (they were cute tho) but the burger was good (tender meat and love the blue cheese). We tried all the drinks on their menu, they didn’t cheap out on alcohol at all! All the drinks are strong yet tasty, my personal favs are the white Christmas margarita (tequila, coconut cream, triple sec and lime juice) and jingle juice. Place is cutely decorated, super cozy and intimate!

My friend and I made reservations to go to Selene at 5:30 on a Tuesday. There appear to be two entrances, so if you are meeting someone, specify which street you are waiting on. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and classy. 5:30 is still pretty early for dinner, and when we went they were out of a lot of things, especially seafood. It may have been the particular day we went, but it was odd. I also do not have the prices of our dishes because my friend covered the check, and I forgot to take a picture of the receipt. I do remember it being overpriced, but given the location it is not at all surprising. My friend got the lasagna, and I got the salmon. My friend enjoyed the lasagna. It was nothing special, but it did have good flavors. For me, the salmon was cooked well in terms of moisture, but it had zero flavor. The vegetables had flavor, but if you can tell from the picture, they were very charred. Finally, we decided to splurge on a dessert, and the apple dessert pictured below was the only thing they had in stock that evening. We actually did not finish eating it because it had a really odd taste. To me, it tasted like the top of a crème brulée that was extremely burnt. My friend said it tasted like something went bad. Overall, food was pretty average, and did not live up to the price point. However, service here was fantastic. Our server was extremely friendly and hospitable, and our waters were constantly refilled and there were multiple checkpoints. I think there are better places in the area for a similar price point.

We discovered this restaurant during our vacation trip to NY. It was an amazing find and we will definitely return. The food was really yummy and our server/bartender was amazing and super professional and friendly. He gave us food recommendations and the drinks he prepared were so good!!!

My friend made reservations at 2pm on a Saturday. See had a voucher from Pulsd which gave us a good deal on the bottomless champagne brunch. Bottomless champagne and two entrees with the voucher was under $25 for the both of us. I arrived a little earlier so opted to stop in the restroom then sit at the bar. When I sat at the bar, I realized that I had left my phone in the restroom. The bartender was gracious enough to offer to call my phone to help me locate it. Thankfully I found it right away. My friend arrived and so I moved from the bar to the dining seating. Our order was promptly taken. We chose the Strawberry Fume and Lavender champagne. The Lavender champagne was sweet and delicious. For our entrees, we ordered the omelette your way. I opted for spinach, bacon, and mozzarella, my friend ordered crab and mozzarella. The omelette came with potatoes and a side salad. We both enjoyed our omelettes. At 2pm in the afternoon, there were only 3 tables of diners including our table yet the bottomless champagne was not truly bottomless. It took some effort to get our waitress’s attention after our first serving. Once we finally did get her attention, she did check in more frequently. We only had 3 glasses during our 90 minute bottomless brunch. We could have had more if the waitress was initially more attentive. It didn’t truly feel like a bottomless brunch experience. Since the restaurant was still not to busy, we were left to sit, chat, and exchange gifts well after the 90 minute time slot which was nice. They even gave us a Sunflower each as we left. The hospitality was very much appreciated and we had a great time. I would definitely come back and give it another try.

Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Very nice new space in FiDi. The burger and gyro were both a bit dry but otherwise the service and drinks made up for it all. Planning on going back for brunch. Enjoyed my post birthday brunch :) will be back soon!

Yelp
We came here for their Christmas bottomless brunch, it was truly just OK. The restaurant looks kind of like a warehouse - most tables and chairs are different types and some are made of plastic. The bar area is cute though! Service was also ok, it looked like they were understaffed. The women were very nice, the men looked painfully annoyed to be there. As we were leaving, the man that seemed to be the manager, made a comment about how we were getting too drunk. Inappropriate and wrong, the drinks were mediocre and didn't have enough alcohol to get us even tipsy. We are just a happy group of girls! The food was not good either! We ended up going to a bar close by to get more drinks. We usually stay at the bar after bottomless when we plan for it but this place wasn't up to par. Overall, I would not come back but if you're around the area and want to get just 1 drink I guess it's ok.

Yelp
The food was pretty good! The entrees were tasty and properly cooked. I didn't need the potatoes though. The service was great! The waiter allowed us to sit anywhere and was very attentive. Never left us with a dirty table or silverware. Ambiance was beautiful. Perfect for date night honestly. And the drinks were also pretty strong and tasty!

Yelp
Me and my girlfriends did the all you can drink boozy brunch - bought tickets on bucketlisters ($57 a person not including tip). The place is beautifully decorated and in a cute area in the financial district (a bit far for north jersey gals but ok). They had a selection of food and drinks to order ... I had the margarita and my friends had the martinis. We ate the avocado toast, burger, and red velvet pancakes (like a dessert). It was okay... I'd be curious to see how the experience would be with the regular menu. Also, I think it should have included a little more food.

Yelp
The food at Selene is so beautifully festive. They have an excellent bottomless brunch deal! The portions were small this year, and I have come during the holidays in previous years. The service is efficient, and Selene can accommodate large parties. This is wonderful for the holidays or a special event like a birthday. The ambiance is IMPECCABLE. They take festive decorations to a new level....The front entrance is impeccable. The flowers adoring the windows are incredible. Definitely dine at Selene!

Heidi L.

Yelp
We came here as a large group with two big tables. Some ordered pre fixe and a few order a la carte. The Brussel sprouts were delicious but the branzino was tasteless. The ambience was cute but the service was poor. We waiting for a long time for our food and had to flag down waiters when we needed something. The restaurant was mostly empty when we were there. We were the only big group in the back plus a couple small tables near the front.

Danny L.

Yelp
The food was amazing, particularly the grilled halloumi and baked oysters. I also got the strip steak, which was so tender and flavorful. I didn't particularly like the mashed potatoes, but my friend enjoyed it. We came on a slow night so we were the only table for several hours, so the service was very attentive and drinks were always topped off.

Jamie M.

Yelp
I had such a great dining experience at this restaurant from the minute I walked in the door with the hostess from the time I sat down at the bar. Everything was just great. I will definitely be visiting this restaurant again next time I am

Cindy J.

Yelp
It is a great place to have a brunch with a friend, date, or few. Greek Omelette - delicious but needed more toppings, like more feta. The potatoes are soft and delightful. The salad was really refreshing. Fried Calamari- is on point! I recommend. Drinks were great. Some were juicy. It depends on the bartender. I like the female bartender. She made a lovely drink for us. The manager was great saying to come back on Saturday. They did not rush us. Nice ambiance. Calm. And you can have a conversation.

Yelp
I came here for an event and my friend came flying over awkwardly laughing about how a guy cursed her out. I remember seeing his eyes bulging out of his head but I couldn't hear what he was saying since I wasn't near her. Apparently some girls that were directly behind the rotating diamond that's in the middle of their floor was spinning it and he started yelling at my friend who was in the front of it. So I approached the smelly breath man and said don't ever yell at a woman like that again. If that was your mother you would have flipped if someone was talking to her like that. He talking about some "what did I do??" You know wth you did. Then a tiny security guard with a bowl cut and a woman security guard came over and asked me what happened. I told her and she said that she didn't like how he was talking to my friend and that she would report him to the owner. If she did or didn't, I said what I said to him and I'm not coming back here. It's so disgusting that his big ole behind thought to himself that it was a wise idea to curse at a woman.

Yelp
This review is for Drunk Shakespeare which takes place inside. We had a lovely time - lots of excitement and laughter. The cast was a lot of fun - they perform Shakespeare well but mix in modern jokes, interaction with the audience, and zesty extras. The performance has everything - complimentary shots, prizes, singing, visual arts, jokes, light nudity, and an auction. What's not to love? Each night one actor in the performance is drunk. Our drunk MacBeth started the show with 4 shots and did two more during the show. All around a lovely evening.

Yelp
Selene opened 2-3 months ago and it's the leader of the rise of good restaurants in FiDi. Located on Hanover and Beaver, Selene has this beautiful floral arrangement by the door that welcomes you in. The first thing that came to my mind when entering was that it'd be a great space for a work happy hour or renting it out for a club/work event. There are even curtains to separate the space because in fact, there was a work happy hour going on at the other end of the space, but there was still room for other diners on our side of the restaurant and noise-wise was still OK. Our table of 4 ordered: -Pikilia (Feta, Hummus, Eggplant, Olives, $18) - their signature appetizer/dip platter, I thought it was OK but my parents loved it! The hummus could have been seasoned a bit more but it was a generous portion and also they refilled our pita bread for no extra cost. Presented well with a mini-lazy Susan so definitely a great shareable app -Charred Octopus ($22) - huge octopus piece, definitely one of my favorites of the meal. So good in fact my dad ordered it two more times in the next two weeks lol. Also good during take out! but obviously best if eaten at the restaurant -Seared Scallops ($36) - came with 5 scallops, amazing! seasoned well, perfect cook. Would 10/10 order again. -Crab Meat Black Ink Linguini ($28) - I LOVE black squid ink and this is probably the best I've had besides Daily Catch in Boston. So many pieces of crab, seasoned well, generous sized portion (had leftovers and def can eat twice) -Seafood Orzo ($31) - again, generous portion, not my favorite but I'm not a huge fan of red sauce. It's very similar to cioppino just with orzo -Smoked Mixed Grill Meats for Two ($58) - I think they since removed it from the menu because it was too good of a deal, but it came with 4 lamb chops, steak and grilled chicken with 2 sides. The brussel sprout sides was really good, fries were undercooked (potatoes were still hard). All their meats were good! If you're feeling like you want some meat, it's the perfect platter but I'd prefer to eat other things on their menu that are more unique We came here for Father's day and they comped a nice chocolate strawberry crepe with a sparkler. Our waiter was so nice and accommodating, we had a newborn and they specifically gave us a roomy table by the corner so we could park the stroller. Note that their air conditioning was not working at the time, but even while sweating a bit the food was absolutely delicious! We ordered takeout from them twice within the two weeks after our first meal and will definitely continue returning. For the portion size, quality ingredients and cook, this is definitely my favorite restaurant in FiDi!

Yelp
Solid restaurant in the Financial District. A lot of the reviews were raving about the service, but I felt that could have been better. There were two events happening while we were there, but we had a party of 11, so they really should have paid better attention to us. I had to ask for Menus and they didn't have one for each person and we were waiting around to order for quite some time. Overall though, the experience was good. The food was solid, but not spectacular. Octopus dishes were great and overall portion sizes were good. A couple of things stood out. The charred octopus was a favorite of my wife, the lamb chops as part of the Mixed Grill for 2 were tender and delicious and the Brussel Sprouts side was very tasty. The chef came out and also offered a free dessert for the kids at the table, which was nice. It was a little noisy because there was a large group of about 30-40 people at the Bar right behind us, but otherwise the decor and ambiance were nice. I would come back to try other dishes, just to try things that may resonate more as 'Greek'. I didn't feel like anything we got was unique from other Greek restaurants we've been to, but would give it another shot to try other menu items.

Yelp
After a long day of sightseeing and walking for miles through NYC, we ended our day at the 911 memorials and Wall Street. Fortunately, we found a delicious restaurant nearby that was open for either a late lunch or early dinner. My daughter loved the Mediterranean esthetic of the restaurant, and the hostess gave us both a lunch and dinner menu since it was around 4 p.m. Our party of 4 started with the Pikilia which had tzatziki, hummus, eggplant, and olives on a lazy susan. Our server even provided us with additional complimentary pita. I ordered the charred octopus as an entree while the others in our party enjoyed the lobster pasta which was a generous portion of both lobster and pasta, the asparagus linguini, and a side of roasted artichokes. The Spanakopita was full of spinach and cheese. We were too stuffed for dessert!

Stephanie V.

Yelp
The food was so great. Everything tasted perfect! We ordered our meat medium rare. It came with 2 sides. The dessert was also delicious. This was our first time here and we loved it. The service was excellent! The servers were very attentive and the owner/manager (not sure who he was) was very in-tune with everything he came around and checked on us multiple times asking if everything was okay and how we liked the food. The staff is so attentive!! The place is beautiful, they were playing nice music. It was just such a positive atmosphere, I did not want to leave. This is a place that we will definitely be visiting again! I highly recommend this place. It's so well organized and amazing!!

Kelly M.

Yelp
This rating is for Drunk Shakespeare that we enjoyed here. I did not know what to expect when Drunk Shakespeare was recommended for us but after going, I can truly say.......it was hilarious. All of the actors were great. One of them takes 4 shots prior to the start of the performance. An audience member chooses a shot also, to prove it is really alcohol. The actor then takes several more shots during the show and on this particular night, also mixed 2 customer's drinks together and chugged it! I never understood MacBeth when we read it in high school so this version of add libbing and doing a few scenes and shots was just perfect! I recommend Drunk Shakespeare! My guess is you never know what each performance will hold! My only other comments is that there was only one waiter and if there were more servers, I could have ordered more drinks for our group and it would have been more profitable for the restaurant! That one server did not have enough time to take care of the entire audience!

Victoria L.

Yelp
Excellent food. Excellent service. These two things aren't necessarily guaranteed in FiDi, but I'm surely grateful. It can be difficult to find a nice place not filled to the brim with finance bros (looking at you Stone St) to have a decent dinner and wine. This place fits that bill! I'll gladly return.

Reena H.

Yelp
I took my mother here for dinner & we loved everything about this place. From the moment you walk in you're welcomed in by staff. The service was outstanding, we never had to ask for anything, they were on top of everything. The food was extremely tasty, the chef uses only the freshest produce & ingredients. We ordered the lobster tostadas, lamb meatballs, Greek salad, lamb chops & the chef sent out a special vanilla cherry meringue dessert that was incredible! I'm hoping we can come back for brunch before we fly home next week. It's been hours since we left the restaurant & I'm still thinking about it lol.

Brittany R.

Yelp
I really hate to leave poor reviews on restaurants but it had to be said- the staff here was very unprofessional and did not know how to handle/manage the tickets we purchased for all you can drink brunch for 2 hrs. The server slammed our bill on the table and told us our time was up, no offer to continue to order paid drinks, just the bill. It is one thing if someone is waiting for our table but the place was empty on a Sunday afternoon. Poor customer service by one young lady employee which soured the whole experience.

Alexandra A.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch. Absolutely delicious. We were four people ordering all different meals off the lunch prix fix menu. Kind staff. Would definitely recommend.

Stace K.

Yelp
Brunch was pretty good but not amazing. The service was unorganized but friendly. May come back here to try dinner.

Jessel R.

Yelp
Love the crab meat linguini and the charred octopus. This place is going to be the talk of the town soon! Happy to welcome an authentic Greek restaurant in the neighborhood!! The ambiance is chill and relaxing with nice music. Fantastic service!

Vinny M.

Yelp
Amazing place located in FiDi. Food was amazing, staff was friendly and prices were more than reasonable

Samira D.

Yelp
We were here Saturday evening for Drunk Shakespeare. The drinks were good. Service was ok. I would've thought they would have more wait staff to help with the crowd. We also got the calamari which was surprisingly pretty good. Would come back to try their brunch one day.

Eva L.

Yelp
Food was delicious and will definitely go again! We went as a group from work and they knew we had a time limit and were able to accommodate us so we can get back to work on time.

Mariah R.

Yelp
The food, service, and drinks were 12/10!! So amazing and the staff was spectacular! I tried a variety of dishes and they were all so tasty, so fresh and flavorful. As pictured I had the Farmers Market Eggs Benedict, Fried Calamari, Greek Salad, and tried my bf's Spring Burger. I don't usually like salad but this Greek salad was irresistible! I had the boozy brunch champagne bar, and the flavors were astounding! I definitely recommend trying the lavender lemon, it was like nothing I've ever had before, so sweet and delicious !!! I also had a couple cocktails, the Spring Sangria and the Mezcal Michelada , also10/10! It's hard to find a good michelada and this was one of my top ones I've had in nyc. You really couldn't go wrong with any dish or drink here. And the decor was so cute!

Janet T.

Yelp
We stumbled on this place last night be chance not knowing it was new to the hood and still in 'launch phase'. What a wonderful experience. The food was amazing. I had the charred octopus and it was tender and the accompaniments were perfect in portion and flavor. The owner Vinnie was so friendly and checked in with us several times. The whole vibe is stylish but very friendly and welcoming. An incredible addition to the FIDI. I will be back - often! So many things on the menu I want to try and it sounds like they will be introducing new dishes regularly. Highly recommend you check it out!

W F.

Yelp
This is a gem in the financial district. Nice people, very engaged chef, service was top shelf. Food was excellent. We had the Ribeye steak and a burger. Best pet, the prices were really reasonable. This is now on our regular go to list.

Emma G.

Yelp
We used the Pulsd deal to come for brunch and it was amazing! The ambiance is so cute and the garden stuffed pita was delicious. The drinks were really good and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a nice bottomless brunch spot

Billy Z.

Yelp
Yes, yes, yes. From the food to the service, all around great experience. They accommodated us with an infant in a side space knowing we would have more room to maneuver. We really enjoyed the food, made possible by recommendations from the waiter. It was our first dinner out, and other celebrations, so our waiter helped us celebrate with dessert on the house! Take out is just as good, highly recommend!

Christine S.

Yelp
Arrived at 7:15, got seated and ordered shortly after. Our appetizer didn't come out for 45 minutes, and even then it was because we had to ask them to check because it had been quite some time since we ordered. They said our entree would come out shortly, but we were left disappointed because it was 8:20 and our entrees were nowhere to be seen. The kicker is, the manager of this place was clearly having dinner with his friend right next to us and he did nothing but watch his servers scramble to try and bring orders out. We asked for our check and left before our entrees were served because waiting 2 hours for food seems ridiculous. The manager should have acknowledged the issue instead of leaving his employees to have to apologize for a problem that is clearly out of their hands. Would not recommend. Do better management.

Haryane G.

Yelp
This place is incredible, I loved it! The food was so tasty, the dessert was delicious! Classy and beautiful ambiance and excellent service. Please try these, you'll thank me later Nutella crepe , lava cake, crab cakes , lobster risotto, ribeye with fingerling potatoes , calamari and watermelon salad! You're welcome!!!

Yelp
Mediocre brunch at Selene. Manager was accommodating and helpful but female server was very rude and unhelpful. Food took very long to come out but bottomless deal was nice. Staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. Menu included numerous items which were not available or actually correct.

Megan S.

Yelp
We loved our dinner at Selene! The vibe and ambience made us feel like we were in Greece. We started with two aperol spritzes that were made perfectly. Then for appetizer we ordered the octopus crudo and the watermelon ouzo salad. They also gave us the grilled octopus and falafel dish on the house . Each dish was so delicious. For our mains we ordered the scallops and the lavraki fish , both made impeccably. For dessert, they gave us the lava cake on the house. This was honestly the most generous place that we've ate at in the city. The servers and chef were so welcoming. We can't wait to come back!

Adrian V.

Yelp
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my experience at Selene. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The menu was expansive. The portions were incredibly large (my girlfriend and I were pretty full after the appetizer) and all of the food was delicious. I had the blank squid ink linguine with crab meat that was great and my girlfriend had the seafood orzo another fine item. I was amazed and definitely want to return!

Jillian C.

Yelp
Hate to leave a negative review, but one star is generous for this place. Only positive was the super kind hostess. Other than that, service was beyond slow, food came out wrong twice and was clearly poor quality, watched the bartender pour well vodka for our "Grey Goose" drinks... just truly terrible meal. Sat down at the table (wrapped in torn wrapping paper..?) and there was wet food smeared across. We left speechless and hungry to say the least.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Selene hosts the Drunken Shakespeare group during the week and they are so much fun! The interior is so nicely decorated; you really forget you're in a concrete jungle. The drinks were quite good and not too pricey as well. The runners do an excellent job not to disrupt the show while bringing drinks and food out from the kitchen.

Joe S.

Yelp
I have no idea what this place is doing, and I don't think they do either. Brunch was a disaster, included hours of sitting around waiting, and the servers and manager didn't seem to know what was on the menu and what wasn't. Surreally bad experience.

Lauren B.

Yelp
Decent. Food was ok. Nice staff. Very dark. Turned on my cell phone to see my food. First timer. Can't say I'd go back. But try it once to be the judge.

Matt S.

Yelp
Came here for the brunch on the very first really gorgeous day of spring in NYC and loved it. The bottomless bar had enough variations to try something a bit different each round -- highlight was a lavender Bellini-style drink. Calamari appetizer was great but the crepes w/ marmalade were UNREAL.

Stella S.

Yelp
Such a fun brunch place for a big group! Yummy drinks and food. Loved it ! Great staff

Erica O.

Yelp
We had a company lunch for about 50 people at Selene yesterday. It was really wonderful! The set up was great-- 3 large tables-- and the food was amazing. We had shared appetizers for the tables - Greek salad, spanokopita, fried zucchini and lamb meatballs. Everything was delicious and fresh. Then each person was able to order an entree. I had the lamb kebab and it was fantastic. Dessert was a apple tart in phyllo. Everyone enjoyed their meals and even the folks who have special dietary restrictions (gluten free/dairy free/vegetarian) were able to enjoy a choice of items.

Alyssa B.

Yelp
Selene hosted my engagement party, the experience was so elegant, the food was delicious, the music was sexy and the Wes ice could not be nicer! I highly recommend going back! There cocktails are fabulous!

nicole L.

Yelp
We had my child's baptism at Selene, and it was perfect. Around 25 people. The hostess Olga helped us plan the entire thing ahead of time, so that it was a seamless and worry free day. Realizing that it would be easier to do family style, Olga suggested this and worked with our food preferences to create a great menu. Food was 5 stars. Ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful and relaxing. The staff is wonderful and kind. Would highly recommend to have events here. We've also been here for brunch other times, and it was an equally great experience. Thank you for a wonderful day!

Erica S.

Yelp
I was excited to finally check this place out because the ambiance looked pretty every time I would pass by but the ambiance is the only nice thing about this place. Our appetizer alone didn't come out until almost an hour after ordering and we grabbed the check before we could even get our entrees. Tables next to us were also complaining and servers were offering apologies left and right so it was a shared negative experience with others in the restaurant. The cherry on top of this whole experience was the guy who was clearly chilling around like the manager had no care or idea in the world that half the tables in the restaurant were hungry. Overall, would not recommend and cannot consider this place as "fine dining" like advertised.

Priscilla K.

Yelp
We held an event at Selene last Friday and I can't say enough great things about this place. The owners, staff and chef went above and beyond to ensure the night was a success. The appetizers were beautifully served and delicious; several of our guests enjoyed full meals and raved about the food. Ambiance was perfect. We will be back for sure!

Kari K.

Yelp
Amazing menu and service! We've come for brunch and dinner and recommend both! My husband had the lamb burger at brunch, and it was AMAZING. The whole menu though was great.

Craig C.

Yelp
Food and service were great. Had the grilled octopus, oysters, Greek salad and lamb chops. I live w few blocks away and am extremely psyched that we have a new fabulous Greek restaurant in the hood!

Yelp
don't bother wasting your money - the service is the worst I've seen! not only did we wait on line for over 30 minutes when we had a reservation, but the manager ignored me several times and took people who came in after us. she is a rude blonde woman who is BAD for business! after i asked to speak to the manager and confronted her, she refused to service me or give me my money back that i paid for our event tickets. she should be fired immediately. i even had to call the police to try to get my refund.
