Catahoula Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival? There aren’t too many 19th-century Creole townhouses in this part of the Central Business District, so it’s an immediate stand-out. The interior, though, is unmistakably modern—all striking contemporary art, polished wooden staircases, and black-and-white tiled floors. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The lobby bar and coffee stand (which also has a food menu) creates a natural social hub, and there’s clumps of post-work young professionals deciding whether or not to get into the tequila selection at 6 p.m. on a Tuesday evening. The demographic skews young and hip for locals and visitors. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The 35 rooms are all designed around the quirks of the building, and so differ notably. My entry-level Guest Room had large windows and exposed brick wall with modern Louisiana Cypress fixtures. The design touches certainly maximize the restricted space, but maybe only a younger clientele will like the minimal nature of, say, coat hooks on the wall in place of closet space. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The Casper mattresses made the custom-built bed a joy to sleep in. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. While the toilet and sink are separated by a physical door, the only thing separating my shower from the rest of the room was a shower curtain. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The fast, free Wi-Fi seemed to cope with the demands of the presumably heavy social media activity on site. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?The front desk staff are skilled multi-taskers, checking people in, directing locals to the rooftop bar, etc. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The lobby pisco bar has some charismatic bartenders who will steer you through the delights of a sometimes unfamiliar menu. The rooftop bar is also one of the city’s best. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The bartender recommended a drink that involves chewing on a weird flower before drinking the cocktail. It was awesome. Bottom line: worth it, and why? It’s a boutique hotel in the true sense of the word, thoughtfully designed and unpretentious."

Staff very friendly and helpful. We had a minor hiccup when we arrived the staff was very helpful in resolving the matter . They are under new management and trying to get everything back the way it should be. Anyway I would recommend this place, easily walking distance to almost everything including Bourbon St. ! There is a nice courtyard and a rooftop lounging area. The rooms are small but comfortable. The beds were very comfortable. We will definitely stay again.

The original owners are BACK!! Upon reading some bad reviews from recent year or so, I was nervous but I’d heard it has changed hands again. And it was a good gamble- Everything is back to how it should have been. Well managed, clean, friendly, quiet, well maintained and appointed. Front desk is always more than happy to help and we felt safe and happy and well rested at all times. 10/10 would stay here again and again. Best character accomodation we could have hoped for, dripping with history and charm.

Great location! My husband and I came to NOLA for the first time and wanted to avoid the hotels like Holiday Inn, Hamptons, etc and the Catahoula exceeded our expectations! The location is wonderful! French Quarter isn't too far of a walk away at all! You do need to find parking, but there is a lot a street up and the rates are phenomenal!! We don't require much and we've stayed in super high class hotels, to some scummy ones, and this was so perfect. The room is small, yes, but the bathroom is a great size, the bed is actually the most comfortable bed we've slept in!! The elevator didn't work, but that's not a big deal... also, the TV does work (despite the negative reviews about the TV), you need to play around with it and be patient. The gentleman at the desk was beyond kind, and everything is so clean! Keep in mind, this building was built in the 1800s, but it's a great place to stay and the price was even better!!

An excellent experience! Fantastic room, big, clean room… great location in CBD but away from the bigger traffic streets and close to all that the Quarter and Warehouse District have to offer. All staff were delightful and welcoming. As a New Orleans native back home on family business (go get Aunt Sally’s pralines, y’all!😁), I was thrilled to experience this kind of welcome.

I truly enjoyed my stay. The staff was friendly and kind, even with my late check-in. Water and coffee were always available in the lobby and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Loved it and will be back for my next NOLA adventure.

We stayed here last minute and liked the overall vibe—lots of plants and the earthy smell of neem oil when you walk in, which we actually enjoyed. The place felt cozy. Our room was small, kind of like a hostel setup, but that wasn’t a big deal since we were just planning to sleep. Unfortunately, we had issues with the shower water taking at least 15 minutes to heat up, so we ended up taking cold showers. Then in the middle of the night (in August), the air conditioner stopped working. The front desk did try to help and moved us to another room, but the A/C in that room wasn't working. When they moved us again, we realized someone was actually already staying in that room—it was deadbolted from the inside. At that point, we just gave up, went back to our original room, and tried to tough it out. Eventually packed everything up at 6AM and left after barely getting any sleep. One plus: the staff did give us a small tube of his personal toothpaste when we realized we didn’t have any, so the service was kind and responsive. Just wish the experience had gone smoother—maybe we had bad luck.

If I could give 1 million stars, I would! The Catahoula Hotel in New Orleans is hands-down my favorite place to stay not just in Louisiana, but anywhere. This charming boutique hotel has truly captured my heart. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth, character, and a vibe that’s as unique as the city itself. The customer service is exceptional every single time. Heather has always been incredibly kind and helpful during my visits, and the rest of the team especially the guys go above and beyond to make you feel at home. And then there’s Jonny Ray, the amazing general manager, who always has a great story and a welcoming smile. He makes every stay feel personal and unforgettable. The rooms are spotless, stylish, and full of character exactly what you want when you’re visiting a place as soulful as New Orleans. I’ve stayed here five times now, and not once have I had a bad experience. In fact, every time I return, it feels like I’m coming home. Forget the big chains like Hilton or Marriott this place has soul. The location is perfect, with fantastic local food just steps away. As a nurse practitioner who travels often, I can say this hotel is one of the true highlights of my trips. Coming back here is like being a kid going to Disneyland pure joy every time. Even my hospital knows to book me only at the Catahoula when I’m in town there’s simply no substitute. To Jonny Ray and the entire team: thank you for being such wonderful people and for creating such a special atmosphere. This hotel is a treasure, and I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know visiting New Orleans!

Location of the hotel is great for getting around, close to arena and easy walk to Bourbon Street and the river. But that is about all I can say for our stay. We came to NOLA for Taylor Swift concert, when I called to make the reservation I specifically said it would be four guests, we would be arriving on a late flight and just need a room that has enough space to sleep. The agent on the phone assured us that they have rooms available. As we came closer to the weekend, I called again to confirm the reservation and reiterate that we would be arriving on a late flight. ||No one answered the phones at the hotel for two days, finally had to text the number on the website and received a half ass confirmation that our room would be ready when we arrived. ||We called the hotel when we landed to let them know we were on or way, and the night shift employee acted as if this was the first time they were hearing of our reservation. They said we would get a call back from the manager, she stated there was a room. ||We arrived at the hotel, go to check in and we are told there is no room that can accommodate us. They offered us a room with one king bed for four people. Luckily my son will sleep anywhere and we asked if they could get is some extra blankets and he will sleep on the floor. ||Room was Ok, it was a place to sleep. They were able to get us two blankets, apparently the hotel had no extra blankets, no extra pillows, no cots, nothing. In hindsight I wish we would have stayed in that room, the next day we were moved to another room with a sofa that my son could sleep on. BUT there was no AC, just a ceiling fan and windows that didn't open.||We made it work, it was just a place to sleep but for the money we spent it was such a horrible experience.
