Selva Rooftop Lounge

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Selva, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish! We kicked off our night with some amazing drinks, including their Agave Flight, the Intro to Mezcal, and the standout cocktail, THE G.O.A.T. Each sip was a delightful journey through unique flavors that perfectly complemented the vibrant atmosphere. The food was equally impressive. We indulged in the Chicken Tinga Tacos, which were bursting with flavor, and the Quesadilla, which was cheesy and satisfying. The Sun Cloud dish added a refreshing twist, while the Totopos and Tostones provided the perfect crunchy accompaniment. Every bite was a testament to the kitchen’s talent and creativity. The entertainment was the icing on the cake. We were captivated by some of the best burlesque dancers, who kept the energy high and our toes tapping throughout the evening. Their performances added a playful and engaging element to our night. To end our evening on a sweet note, we enjoyed the Warm Spiced Chocolate Cookie. It was the perfect finish—soft, rich, and indulgent, leaving us with a smile on our faces. Overall, Selva hit all the right notes with exceptional drinks, delicious food, and fantastic entertainment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out!

Was there yesterday with my friend! We came to watch a movie at the rooftop cinema and afterwards wanted to get a nice dinner! The staff and service were fantastic! Atmosphere and vibe was very quiet and classy. Food and drinks came quick and were amazing. Recommend this restaurant and will for sure come back!

We had a horrific experience at this bar. I was with a friend who ordered a glass of wine at a corporate holiday party and was refused service. She was not drunk and he looked at her “eyes” and said “I’m not serving you”, despite the fact there were other extremely drunk people around us. What a horrendous experience. I will never come back.

It was my step daughters birthday and after we left our dinner location we stopped here to have a few drinks before we went home. We haven’t been here in about a year. It was originally the acme hotel and I’m thinking after a sale and a few renovations.. selva emerged.. even better than ever.. we only stayed for about a hour.. but we had a great time.. I just wish we had more time but maybe next time..

to be a fun day party with friends. The service was shockingly rude from start to finish — dismissive, condescending, and openly hostile for no reason. Instead of creating a fun, welcoming vibe, the staff treated us like an inconvenience.

The best bartender I've ever seen. He really loves his job and knows absolutely everything about it! Look for Michael the bartender with a gorgeous beard and just tell your preferences to taste and he will do what you will fall in love with (I had to drink 6 cocktails)

My wife and I had a lovely evening. The cocktails were unique and tasty. The tacos were excellent. After the meal we had one of the agave flights. That was a fun tasting experience, we are both tequila/mezcal fans and enjoyed it a lot. To wrap the whole experience we got the Selva Sunday, highly recommend!

Nice and cozy place, tasty smashed double burger and the best part of this place is the bar and Michael in particular! He’s a real magician at work. You can just tell what would you like to taste in your cocktail and he’ll bring it to life in the best possible way. Just try it yourself and you’ll never ever think about going to another bartender.

I came her for a friend's birthday dinner and had a good time. We sat outside on the rooftop which has a very nice view of the city. Our waiter was very help and honest about the best things on the menu. We got several plates and shared everything. I will say the menu is pretty limited, it's more of a cocktail bar. However, just about everything we had was good. We had the mini flautas, quesadilla, corn salad , shrimp tacos , and mushroom tacos. The corn salad and the shrimp tacos were my favorite. They were very flavorful.

We came here for some drinks after our dinner. We arrived around 930pm and the place was still half empty. The hostess wasn't very welcoming, didn't smile or really any emotion. Just walked us to our table. Service was a little slow, especially since they really weren't busy. The drinks we got were ok but nothing special. I ordered a Oaxacan Old Fashioned and didn't get any Mezcal or chocolate flavors. Seemed like I just got a regular old fashioned. This place did start filling up, but just don't think it was the crowd for us. It was also extremely cold outside, so we stayed indoors. They have an outdoor patio with some decent views, just seemed too small. Even if we came back in the summer, I doubt we'd get outdoor seating. Don't think I'll be returning.

Skip this place. Only one waiter messing up our simple order I asked for lemonade and never got it but was charged ! Emily hotel has better options like Fora please go there instead ! The place is tiny as well it was cool and rainy so we couldn't do outside area

Visited this place that is located on the 7th-floor at Hotel Emily and enjoyed the pleasant ambiance. However, I found that the music was a bit loud. We had the Chicken Tacos which were delightful, and the Totopos (Chips with Salsa, guacamole, and queso dips) were flavorful. For the drinks, we had The Bubbles which was good drink, but the Manhattan was just okay. Overall, a nice experience with some minor noise considerations. Note - we were able to use our check-in offer and got Totopos for free with the Chicken Tacos.

Truly such an incredible restaurant and bar! Located on the 7th floor of the Emily Hotel, this is a dim-lit bar and restaurant with a sexy low-key vibe. The outdoor patio is spacious and has such beautiful views of the city buildings with plenty of seating. I've been here twice now and both times were a fantastic experience. The staff is phenomenal - sooo accommodating, down to earth, fun, and approachable. The service from the bartenders and servers is always a 5/5. The drinks and food here are *chef's kiss*. They have a full bar with delicious cocktails and bites. I love their mini flautas, corn salad, barbacoa yuca, shrimp tacos, smash burger, and literally all of their cocktails. They make GREAT classic cocktails. I especially enjoy their paloma, margarita, and espresso martini. I also found out recently that they have industry nights every Wednesday which is so fun! Same with a happy hour of half priced tacos from 5-6:30. Needless to say I love Selva. I will be coming back again!

This is an intimate place, would be good for a date night. The drinks are unique and different, it was fun to get out of my comfort zone because the drinks were good. We got a salad on the side for some food, it had a bit of a kick to it but was amazing! The staff were all friendly and service was quick.

Not much of a fan of the rooftop high prices but go downstairs and it's happy hour?! Good for us FORA was a great time and the bartenders were awesome and friendly! Made complimentary shots for my sis birthday! Not sure I need to return...

Great option for small bites and drinks. Go on a warm day to enjoy the patio. Service was slightly dicey but loved the Dj and the vibes. When the music is going it's not ideal for intimate conversation but perfect for a group setting to gather and enjoy and be able to walk around and enjoying the evening.

Came here for a Friendsmas girls outing (lol). I saw an instagram post and decided let's try it. This cute rooftop spot is located in the Emily hotel. We had the best hostess (Kayla) she has the best customer service. She was attentive and caring. We ordered tacos and enjoyed a complementary appetizer. The drinks are so well, got my go to....an espresso martini. This is a cute date spot or just a great option for friends. Also, there was a live DJ. I also would like to mention went on a Saturday evening.

After attending an event at the Rooftop Cinema Club, also at the Emily, we saw the signs to Selva and decided to grab a late night snack before heading home. The hotel makes it very easy to navigate with signs to Selva throughout. On the 7th floor, the view is beautiful. There is a patio but it was too windy the night we were there. The vibe is this super chic, late night lounge. This is everything you'd want in a city experience. The menu is limited but perfect for hanging out and having a couple drinks (although we didn't indulge in cocktails on this trip). We started with the queso, which was delicious. It was smooth and creamy and flavorful. The chips were crispy and seemed probably made in house. We both ordered the birria tacos, which were incredible. The beef was tender and juicy, the flavors tasted like they took hours to build, could not have asked for a better experience. Staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. Truly we loved our visit and had a wonderful experience. Definitely plan a date night here or bring your next out of town visitors for a perfect downtown vibe.

Food and service are both great. The patio is a great place to entertain and watch the sun set.

Went here to support my DJ friend Akari- Met my work friend for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. If you going in the evening be prepared for the darkness. It is so dark in there, I know they are trying to create a vibe but baaaby turn some lights on please. I am not sure what is going on with bartenders now days but baby they just not making drinks like they use to. So drinks were just ok. I had the mushroom tacos which were good and we shared the chicken quesadilla were just meh! the chips and salsa's were good as well as the quac I want better drinks period!

Popped in on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. Wasn't very busy which is nice and the music was good! The drinks are tasty but a bit pricey. Def recommend the daiquiri, it has passion fruit and it tasty like summer!

4.5 if that was an option! It's a hidden spot on top of the Emily hotel. The design and atmosphere were amazing. They had a live DJ playing music. The drinks were creative and had a Mexican twist on them. Overall it was good but nothing jaw dropping.

The drinks are fine, but the service is subpar. Went here on a Saturday evening and was told by the hostess that there was no outdoor seating available...15 minutes after sitting at the bar, the outdoor area was beginning to clear out. Ended up coming back an hour or so later...went to a different bar...asked if we could sit outside (there were visibly tables available)...the bartender tells us that the outdoor area/bar was closing. Fifteen minutes later, several other patrons helped themselves to outdoor seating and it appeared that the bar staff were continuing to serve at the outdoor bar (which is connected to the interior bar anyway). Additionally, it took more than 20 minutes for anyone to attempt to take our drink order although the space was fairly empty. Bottom line--they make a good effort with the ambiance, DJ, and drink menu, but the staff are a bit pretentious and inconsiderate (even on a slow night).

People come here for a drink with a view so PLEASE don't seat them on the view-of-the-wall side of the rooftop if you have room on the city side! It's strange that we had to ask vs having the hostess offer all the empty seats at the bar there. Seems staff are not trained on the meaning of hospitality. If you own or manage a place, whatever it may be, you want patrons to leave thinking that it was a good time and money well spent. All 6 of us left thinking that it is a waste of an amazing view! Drinks were solid 2 out of 5. The place has a nice decor so in combination with the view it brings it to 3 overall stars.

we checked into the emily hotel late at night and was pleasantly surprised to learn there was a bar on the rooftop. the hotel even gave us a voucher for free tacos, so of course we had to check it out. it was super packed but we were able to grab a table for two. the view is pretty impressive for how far it is from downtown. my partner + i ordered the chips and three dips, carnitas tacos and buffalo chicken tacos. the cape berry salsa and guac was INCREDIBLE. the red salsa was meh, i think the chef needs to rework it because it looked and tasted like jarred tomato sauce. tacos were all delicious and a good portion. their cocktails are pretty impressive. i enjoyed the ekto kooler (subtle licorice flavor) and smoke show. our waiter was super friendly and took good care of us. he made great recommendations and made us feel welcomed our first night in chicago. if it weren't for the red salsa, i would of given this spot five stars :)

Loved it!!! Service, food and view of the city was fantastic! Highly recommend! Would be great if they had heaters to extend the patio season.

What a joke! save your time and money. I ordered a beer and two employees were tasting my beer with straw like it was a cocktail, and playing a game about it. The bartender did nothing! The view from the seventh floor Selva is of a nasty parking lot and railroad tracks. You can find a better place for your overpriced cocktails and beer that everyone dips their straw into. Trust me, stay away from this garbage of a place. The DJ was fire.

Cute vibe, bad delivery. The drinks/food are overpriced & mediocre. Portions are small and options are limited. The view is gorgeous and the server was so kind, but the hosting staff were incredibly pretentious despite having a reservation AND being empty. I've been here for a few of the iterations and I hope the EmilyHotel venue can get it together. This is prime real estate and would be so much better utilized with a full menu restaurant.

..I had great expectations for this restaurant. I'm in the city for the first time and thought this would be a great place to end my nights while here. Just absolutely disappointed in the food.. It's like they didn't even try.

1 star for the okay drinks but they took foreverrr to arrive. One of our friends had her drink for 10 min before other 2 came. Food was inedible. Only go for a drink do not get food I feel sick already. It was disgusting chips that were stale & the guac, salsa & Queso is worse than a can. Disgusting

I finally had a chance to check with place out at the Emily Hotel in the west loop. The atmosphere is really chill and the vibe was nice on a Friday night. Service was really good! The hostess and servers were great! Drinks are expensive but they're really good! I have the house daiquiri and the ecko cooler. Both really good. Food is decent. I ordered the chicharrones and the pulled pork tacos. I'm not a corn tortilla fan so I just ate the veggies and meat. The pork was tender and flavorful. I'll definitely be back again to try something else on the menu.

I loved waydown back in the day, so I was excited to check out this new establishment that took over recently. It's pretty much the same with an extravagant cocktail list - I was honestly scared to try any so I stuck with Champagne. The chips trio was tasty but small. The service was excellent- everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Views were great but it was unfortunately not the best weather this night.

This unprofessional place will never get my money. I booked my reservation for my birthday 2 weeks ago from this review, got a call 1 hr before my reservation and was told that there was a private event, that they can seat us at Fora, compensate us for the inconvenience and get us back up to Selva at 10. I said it was fine. 20 mins later I get an email that my reservation was canceled. Tried calling, immediately sent to VM.

We were looking for a cute outdoor rooftop cocktail bar and this place came up in our search. Unfortunately, most of the seating is indoors and even though we made a reservation they weren't able to sit us outside. Regardless, the interior design was elegant and fun. The cocktails were good and the food was decent.

Terrible service. Had my anniversary dinner planned for over 3 weeks. And they sent some entry-level perdon to relay the message that they were canceling my reservation because of an event 2 hours before my dinner. Poorly manager and terrible experience! Plus they didnt empathize. Lady told me that if I wanted I could call the manager and if I caught him, he might be able to comp me for next time some drinks.... My time is worth more. I dont need to chase anyone or beg... terrible!!!!

The "mexican" food is borderline offensive lol. Also the most mediocre drink menu ever. Just a rip off of lazy bird.

Went on a Friday at 6 and the place was empty. The service was great and patio was nice. Food was so so. Great place to stop for a drink

I remember when this rooftop first opened and it was fun and busy and the service was great! First time back since the pandemic and the reopening of Selva. Many similarities with the exception of staff & service. Anyone can be sympathetic with being understaffed. But if you have time to stand & chat with co-workers & twirl your hair while you wait for a bartender to make a tables drink, you have time to hustle your tables, talk with them, maybe give good service, I don't know, give yourself a chance to make more money by actually learning to be social. But why try with 20% automatic gratuity. I watched my cocktail sit at the bar and had to approach the server multiple times & 20 minutes later she brought over the cocktail. It took over 25 minutes to get the check, it wasn't until we stood up to act like we were walking out that she finally got the hint. And what happened to self-care or restaurants/bars having any kind of dignity in dressed codes for their employees. The host looked like she should be at home doing homework, in jeans, gym shoes, and an oversized sweater that looked like Carlton's from Fresh Prince. The server looked sloppy as well. Fine you want them to wear T-shirt's but with khakis and dirty gym shoes, come on what happened to a little bit of class. And the excuse of being short staffed is not ok. Being shorted staffed is you non stop running your ass off when the place is 5 ppl deep and so loud you can't even hear yourself think. Try working Do Division pre pandemic on a 90 degree day! These servers would never survive without crying in the first 2 minutes of their shift. I've been in the service industry for over 15 years and ran, managed, and worked in the Chicago nightlife for years. It's such a shame to see ppl let them selves go and in an area like Fulton Market where it's actual filled with so many great bars and restaurants that you find a spot like Selva with a great view like that but a total bust when it comes to staff. Why would any staff care when they don't have to work for their tips. And then to have to the tables next to you are also complaining bc they can't order or get their servers attention. As a general manager in the industry it makes me cringe. I don't know who didn't train this staff but it obvious! The potential to make more money is so easy NO F'S given! Sad! Truly Sad! What a waste of a good opportunity!
