"If you don’t mind standing and being snug next to your neighbor, this is your place. Come game day, there will likely be a line forming at the side entrance on Selwyn Ave. For Selwyn loyalists here to stay and watch the game, the pub is the destination, not the stadium. Everyone is eager for its infamous vodka Transfusions, which juxtapose the increasingly craft cocktail scene in the city. With one glance at Selwyn on a Sunday, it’s obvious there’s still a niche for some down-home drinking. The outdoor patio is a mighty display of locals — college kids, yuppies, older chaps who’ve been drinking beer at this Myers Park neighborhood establishment since 1990. It wouldn’t be a shock to see a former Panthers player or two grabbing a drink here, as well. As for food, order one of the pizzas or sneak out for a sandwich next door at longtime Charlotte specialty grocer, Reid's Fine Foods." - Kayleigh Ruller

"Selwyn Avenue Pub is arguably the most notorious sports bar in Charlotte — an institution almost as infamous as their various “transfusions” — vodka drinks with grape juice and ginger ale or electric blue Powerade. To secure a table, the fratty and football-obsessed go early and find a spot at one of the few tables hours before kickoff. The baseball team from Queens University will likely be the boys serving the greasy food — Nashville hot chicken and fries, French dip hoagies, and the loaded meat and veggie pizzas. Selwyn is where everyone runs into everyone — from local professional athletes to old friends and lovers from high school and college. It’s all totally fine because everyone’s having a boozy, transfusion time." - Kayleigh Ruller

"Thirty years ago, Jim Foster and his father converted an old house into a pub. They knocked out walls and built a large patio, then added TVs outside on that patio. Selwyn Pub is now a Charlotte institution, one known for its homey, welcoming feel and relaxed atmosphere. Today, Foster says the bar is all about “sipping and socializing, like a tailgate party.” It's also been widely reported that Michael Jordan is a fan of Selwyn's pizza." - Lauren Levine

Google
One of my favorite spots in town but….no dogs allowed on the outdoor patio seems a bit unnecessary…drove 15 minutes just to have to turn around and go home. Again, I love this place but, let’s face it, charlotte is a dog town

Beth Williams

Google
Their wings are incredible. Everything I tried and what others had....everyone raved over it. There is a good reason it's a local spot. They probably could use more staff but being on Easter Wknd maybe that's why. They were great but the place was slammed.

Google
My first time at the place of business, I don’t usually do this, at this particular establishment, i just experienced discrimination mind you I’m the only black guy sitting alone, honestly the only black guy here, waiting to get served! The guy in the staff 31 shirt continuously walked past me and served ppl before and after me, even locking eyes with me and continued to ignore me! Its 2025 its all love i just know where I’m not welcomed…..

Google
I had several drinks but did not eat. Cool spot with a great patio. We were about 20 people and they took great care of us.

Google
I went here for my first time yesterday. LOVED IT. The atmosphere was incredible. Food was delicious! Definitely not typical burger and fries. I had sliders and fries and was really impressed. The front outdoor patio roped me in though. So relaxing. Want to go back for sure!

Google
Very good food!!! Very loud place. Not a place to go and chill but if that's what you want it's all good!!!

J Ross

Google
Great service and the pizza was loaded, delicious, and I received it to go quickly.

Paid for an order on Memorial Day and wasn’t notified that the restaurant was closed. I still paid for the food but never got a refund.

Yelp
Great local spot! Very popular and always a good crowd. Awesome spot to watch games. Bartenders are efficient and friendly. Would recommend if you are nearby.

LaToya M.

Yelp
Extremely mediocre. Nothing has salt or seasoning on it. I ordered the hotdog slider with chili, the chicken sandwich slider, the cheeseburger slider, and tater tots. The only thing with a taste was the chili. Everything else was completely bland. I was here for 30 minutes before I got a server and I had to ask for one who made me prepay. Keep in mind, it was 730 on a Saturday, why would the only person sitting inside (it was packed outside) have to prepay for their food. I'm good on this place. I was one of 4 black people and the ONLY person sitting inside and could not get a server. If you don't want to serve black people, just say it.

Jody S.

Yelp
Cool spot with tons of outdoor seating and fast service. Best thing on the menu is the, hands down, the Nashville Hot Fries. Drinks were great and the fried pickles and wings were really good too but the Nashville Hot fries stole the show.

Yelp
A Charlotte staple this place was here long before I arrived and from speaking with my friends who grew up here it has been a favorite hangout of Charlotte natives for years. They are known for their inviting patio (I am not really sure I even know what the inside of this place looks like) and their inexpensive mixed drinks they call transfusions which are served in a signature Styrofoam cup. I no longer live very close to this place so I hadn't ventured over here in a while but my Patriots were playing on a Thursday night so some friends suggested this location to get together and watch the game. We managed to snag some couch space along with a table surrounding a fire pit. A fire wasn't needed as the weather was nice but I imagine they come in handy during the colder months. For drinks I kept it simple with beer orders while many at our table enjoyed their transfusion drinks. We decided to try their pizza and ordered three larges for the table along with some chips and queso and several appetizers. The food was ok nothing special. Good enough to eat while drinking and watching sports but not something you would plan your night around to come eat. If I were to base it simply off the food the score would be lower but our main objective was to watch the game and have a good time and they certainly provide that. Our server was fantastic and did a great job keeping up with everyone's orders she gets 5 stars from me. I can definitely see the charm to this place, it is old school and laid back. If I lived closer I would probably swing by more often.

Nicole B.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots to watch football games! Got to try the diet transfusion or the regular if you aren't counting calories! Also they have some "decent"'wines for you none beer liquor drinkers :)

Hannah K.

Yelp
Always a go-to bar every time I am home! Love the outdoor atmosphere and the signature drink- the transfusion! Always has sporting events on their big screens. Pizza is incredible. Very likely to run into one + people you know! Overall always a great time with good friends.

Lindsey P.

Yelp
This place is alright. The food is typical bar food options but everything I ordered tasted good. The drinks I ordered were also good, however I do think the first drink I ordered was incorrect. But as it tasted fine and I didn't want to wait for another drink I drank it. The outdoor are could be so good, but they REALLY need to invest in new seating under the roof. The couches by the big TVs were all broken and extremely uncomfortable. When my boyfriend sat down he literally sunk into the seat. This place is not incredibly expensive which is nice.

Mandy M.

Yelp
I love coming here! We come at least once a week. The mozzarella sticks are so good love their amazing wine selections and the owner is so nice!! Best football Sunday spot by far in all of Charlotte (aside from The stadium lol). We did come last Sunday and it seemed as if our waitress was super overwhelmed was forgetting our table constantly and we waited an hour at one point to get a refill of Diet Coke (which she kept Charging us for and one came with grape juice in it a little funky ha) and a check. Really no harm no foul just feel like maybe she could use some help. Will be back soon!

Caleb W.

Yelp
The epitome of lackluster. The pub food is standard... nothing special. It's not terrible by any means but exactly what you would expect. The place is somewhat dirty and bland. For a bar or pub atmosphere... there are plenty of more Charlotte options.

Michelle J.

Yelp
Love this place and their pizza hands down one of my favorites. My daughter and I like to go there, lots of TVs to watch games

Na'Shota L.

Yelp
My buddies Greyson and Cameron told me pizza is 1/2 off Monday thru Thursday after 9pm!

Kate T.

Yelp
After years I finally made it back to Selwyn this past week. Nothing really has changed, great patio and "comfy" inside. The bar is somewhat small inside, which makes it hard to get drinks. I have had a few items from the menu, and so far, everything is just okay. Overall, it is a great place to meet friends for drinks, especially to watch sports, but expect a crowd and be prepared for slow service.

Chad S.

Yelp
Would give zero stars but that's not a option, this place is such garbage, it's amazing they are still open, use to be a good place to hang out, that seems like a long time ago, terrible management

Cameron T.

Yelp
Great place if you are straight and white and don't care about people of color or anyone who is different. The bouncer fought with us for almost an hour about an out of state ID and didn't let my friend in who is a person of color. We were not let in because of a "capacity issue" yet we watched four white men walk in easily with no problem over us. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!

Alan U.

Yelp
So we come here quite often. Though we have never sat at the bar. Today we decided to sit at the bar because there were only 2 people there. The bartender basically dared us to order a drink and we had to beg for menus. My thought is that if we aren't the right kind of customers (old) let us know. We'll leave. Truth is, I can stay at home and be ignored.

Andrew W.

Yelp
Called for a pick up order and was put on hold for 10 minutes. Decided to hang up and try again a little later. They had completely forgot and the phone was still off the line an hour later

Michael K.

Yelp
Awesome food and cool atmosphere but man they have some poor service. Every employee encounter I had was extremely rude and seemed upset that I was there. I do not recommend

Pablo V.

Yelp
Quick recap: if you're looking for a place to grab a beer outside, this is a nice place. If you're looking to have a good meal, this is not your place. Good beer, good wings, not so good everything else. Very much a neighborhood bar where people know each other. Been here a few times usually to drink outside. Only once inside bc it is a bit dark and confined. But the beer was fine, service was ok, wings were fine as well. Outside of the wings, I have yet to get anything that really hit the spot or made me want to order it again. This is classic bar food you eat when you are not sober. At that point it doesn't really matter. Not a bad place, but not a place I would recommend to people looking for a cool spot to eat and drink visiting Charlotte.

Rachel A.

Yelp
Haley ROCKS. Make sure to ask for her as your server. Fried pickles are amazing and drinks are strong. You won't regret your time here!

Erica M.

Yelp
Good food and great place to watch the games. Our server was very attentive and made good recommendations. Try the pizza, they don't skimp on the toppings!

Caroline H.

Yelp
I do not know the name of the bartender but I have to say, NOT nice and NOT accommodating. I went here for the first time today so obviously didn't know the "protocol" of ID at the front, etc. I'm 6 months pregnant and was just meeting friends, stopped for a cookout milkshake on the way so I had something to drink while they sipped their beers. There were very few tables with patrons when I walked in. I walked in and looked at my people, but the guy at the front sort of looked at me funny. I didn't realize he was waiting on my ID (which I had left in the car because my husband was already sitting down with his wallet and I knew I wouldn't be drinking anything but water while there). My milkshake was not out for all to see, it was behind my phone and I was not being flagrant about it. I went to sit and the bartender yelled behind the bar, so the guy from the front caught me and said I wasn't allowed outside drink. Everyone at my table said "SHES PREGNANT, let her stay, she just wanted her milkshake!" but the bartender then wouldn't look at me and the front guy had no choice but to "kick me out" until I finished my milkshake. I was not about to chug a milkshake in order to sit down and drink water in that shit hole so I went to my car, cried and left. They should've never treated me like that, and I will never go here again, even after I can drink again.

Meghan H.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite places in Charlotte, one that we would be excited to bring our friends and family coming in from out of town. Not anymore. Not sure what happened over the past couple of years but the service is miserable. It's unfortunate because the food is pretty good. We've given this place a few shots but the final straw was when we had 40+ wings delivered for a group...NO WING SAUCE. Nothing like a bland, dry wing...good thing we had Red Hots in our fridge. In the same $150+ order, our pizza's were missing half of the toppings listed on the menu. We're done.

AnnaMaria H.

Yelp
We ordered a pizza for pickup and it was delicious. I always find their food consistently delicious for bar food and for the price.

Andy H.

Yelp
Selwyn Seltzer: styrofoam cup and plastic straw (but only $5!). Setting a good example for future generations.

Virginia S.

Yelp
The only thing that kept me from giving a 5th star is the speed of service. Servers were nice but we were unable to find our server when we needed something. It's possible they were under staffed the day we were there. Otherwise we really love this place!!! Big fan of the sliders, you can get 6 for $15 and I normally just share them with my boyfriend. This place is oh so fabulous for the patio! Lots of TVs, big sofas and fire pits. I am pretty sure I haven't been inside the place unless I had to use the restroom. I go here when the weather is nice because I know it's gonna be an awesomely comfortable laid back setting. Parking can be a big big problem! I truly don't have many suggestions for that issue but hopefully they will figure out a solution for it!

John R.

Yelp
Saturday night, only one bartender working behind the bar. All the other staff members were hanging out on the other side watching TV. Took me a half hour to get my first beer

Christina B.

Yelp
I went here yesterday for the Panther's play off game...side note: tough loss. The patio was cool, bartenders were on top of it, food was decent and I had a good time. Things were a little weird with our first server. She took our order and then immediately asked us to close out because she was leaving. She also said she would send our new server over. Come to find out our new server wasn't there yet and she was still taking new tables. Not sure what happened there. Great place to gather with friends and enjoy a few cold ones.

Jhany V.

Yelp
My girlfriends always raved about food and drinks here before COVID-19. We finally made it out here, bartender was rude, lacked hospitality and looked at us as if we were stupid when we had questions about the drink menu. We ordered the Carolina Gold chicken wings and they were literally burnt to a crisp and all of the sauce was burnt off obligating us to ask for a side of the sauce. Quality of food and service has definitely gone downhill.

Jeff T.

Yelp
Awesome spot to watch a game. Great outdoor & indoor bar environments. Food was very solid too. I got the nachos and the pick-any-two sliders (the buffalo chicken slider is the best one for sure).

Todd W.

Yelp
So...another one of my "been in Charlotte 3 years and I just tried this place?!" moments (ie Penguin). Was out with a buddy last week and after some good beer tasting at Dockworkers, we were in the mood for pizza. Decided to head in the direction of the new Mellow Mushroom on Selwyn, but unfortunately (fortunately tuned) it was not open yet. Decided to go across the street to Selwyn Pub as we'd never been. OMG...place is awesome. Was busy for a Tuesday and the patio area is twice the size of the pub itself. Huge TVs, couches, fire pits, high tops, low tops, fireplaces, separate bar. Selwyn could be my new favorite pub in Charlotte, but I'll let a few more visits in the coming weeks decide that. Found ourselves a fire pit near the TV. Baseball game was on and checked out the menu. To my surprise and delight all the pizza was $12.99. That's right, za for $12.99. And that's their specialty pizza prices. You want A 10" (I think that's the right side, then it's $7.99). You want an 18" cheese pizza with all the toppings...yep...$12.99. Witnessed a few handfuls of customers picking up the pizza to-go, which means like usual I'm the last one to the party. I'll be back soon, especially with the nice fall weather in store!

Cem O.

Yelp
As a Queens graduate it has been one of my favorite places since I moved to CLT. Last night we went to get a few drinks and pizza. We ordered a custom pizza with 3 toppings(onions, green pepper and ground beef) Pizza came with a pepperoni topping and I told the server that this is not what we ordered. 10 minutes later, she came back with the same pizza they have only picked out the pepperoni. A couple of them were still in the pizza. What a shame! I clearly told them that I can't have pork products. Manager ( Monique) didn't even apologize for what they had done. She offered to make another one and didn't charge for it. Someone needs to remind them how serious this is for people with allergies. I will be reporting this appropriately.

Kara P.

Yelp
The Selwyn Pub is great. Fun outdoor atmosphere, great wings and pizza, and love the Transfusion!

Brett P.

Yelp
One of my favorite local bars. Pizza is some of the best in the city, and they have a great late night pizza special. Have to try their signature drink, the transfusion

Sarah-Grace H.

Yelp
Great place! Great drinks great food and I actually met my husband there. Perfect environment and the staff is always super accommodating. Definitely a charlotte staple.

Mehul S.

Yelp
One of Charlotte's best local bars. Great patio with heaters in the winter, and to be honest I've never sat inside. Added a retractable roof to help with bad weather. Great food and transfusions.

Charles M.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Charlotte. Hard to know where to start. Best outdoor seating. Wings and pizza are my go tos. All the wing sauces are delicious but my personal favorites are the Cajun blackened and bee sting. I love this bar.

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I have always heard good things about this restaurant, but I cannot leave this action unwarranted. I originally placed an order online for dinner a couple of weeks ago, for around $30. Unbeknownst to me, the pub was closed that day for cleaning. SO the manager told me that a $30 credit would come back to me since the food could not be prepared. I never received the $30 back in any capacity. Second, another $20 was accidentally taken from my account twice for food and drink last week. I don't know what is going on with the place, but this is something that should not be happening. The management and service aspect of the pub is why I will not be going here any more.

Kb B.

Yelp
Disappointed would be an understatement. You would think after spending $250 at any establishment, your order would be correct. Unfortunately when me and my friends called about our incorrect Postmates order, "Todd" said there was nothing he could do to help. K. Selwyn truly has great pizza and wings, but they aren't so great when every part of your order is wrong. What's worse - they genuinely don't care about their service because all the 21 year olds and underage kids keeps their business BOOMING. And tbt to when they made you have a membership card to get in. Thank u, next Selwyn.

Suelynne R.

Yelp
I remember loving Selwyn Pub. Loved the clientele. Loved the beer choices. Loved it was open on Christmas. Today, not so much. My Angus Slider was great, the quesadilla was great. The discount on a bottle of wine Monday through Thursday-or was it Friday was great. The service was not. We got our food, with no napkins or flatware and when we tried to ask for the napkins and flatware our dining neighbors were receiving (before their food) we were rebuffed. Perhaps our waitress was in the weeds. One of our party was accosted by a huge cockroach (we were sitting outside) and no apology or remuneration was offered, although the dead cockroach was obviously under our table. I wish we were offered service...that is the reason we go out. Otherwise we would get great take out food and go home.

John H.

Yelp
I've been here once before and it was during the summertime which is ideal since their outdoor space is great. I like that it is a little "off the beaten path" but a lot of things on Selwyn have definitely changed in the past couple of years with construction and new businesses moving in. Parking can be an issue if the place is packed, but they still make it work and it is parking is definitely worth the headache to get to this pub. Unfortunately for me I got a whole beer poured on me by the waitress and I had my menu positioned perfectly on the table to funnel all the liquid goodness into my lap. It was rather embarrassing since there was a bit of a crowd there that day, but it was the summer and I didn't really mind too much. The waitress was super embarrassed and paid for my beer. It's a fond memory that my friends don't let me forget about every time we think about going to Selwyn Pub.

Jeannine S.

Yelp
What do you get when you mix a college frat party with the Meyer's Park crowd? You get a bunch of drunk guys with shaggy hair and blue blazers pounding beers and hitting on girls while the bartenders roll their eyes. That was pretty much the crowd at Selwyn on Saturday night. I've gotta give this place props for their outdoor space. It's FANTASTIC. Huge, with lots of heaters, so you will have no problem staying warm while sitting outside in the winter. They also have a bunch of fire pits in case you have a group that just wants to hang out. The bartenders just don't seem like they want to be there, so the service was a bit slow for a place that at the time I was getting another round, wasn't even packed. So here are a few reasons you want to check this place out: 1. It's the end of the night and you're looking to meet someone. 2. It's early in the night and you want to go somewhere that isn't crowded yet. 3. You want to relive your college frat years with the guys. 4. You're trying to find a place that can comfortably seat 10-15 people in one place. 5. You like cold beer. 6. You love a good outdoor space.

Kristen M.

Yelp
Very small indoor area, but great outdoor seating type of a restaurant! Thus, weather dependent. Tons of TVs to watch any sporting event. The food is delicious and service is quick! The pizza is AMAZING!! Seriously, the best pizza I've had in a long time!! Best Tip about this place - there is a huge private booth at the back.

Catherine E.

Yelp
The new Selwyn Pub is not what it used to be. We sat for 45 minutes until someone came to our table after asking for service. Once we ordered food and drinks, we sat for 45 more minutes until someone came to help us pay. We asked for service all 3 times during the two hours we were there. Very disappointed by this visit after having high hopes after the reopening.

Melanie E.

Yelp
This was my first time coming here. Definitely a great patio area, but the inside is nice, too - especially on a warm day. Plenty of tv's and different levels of seating (couches, tables, bar seating, booths) and a great fire pit. There is plenty of people-watching here. It seems to be a place to try to meet people and there were definitely a couple of people that would actually move around to different seating areas to see what kind of attention they'd get. Lot's of loafers with no socks and maxi-dresses with oversized sunglasses. The staff makes sure that ID's are checked and that people aren't walking in already intoxicated. All of the staff were extremely welcoming & attentive. We only had the nacho's, but they were good with plenty of queso, chicken & yummy toppings.

Rebekah P.

Yelp
I'd say this is about average for a pub. With food that's good but not five star, and makes for a good place to hang out. It's very relaxed and homey feeling, which I really enjoyed. The burgers are very tasty and pretty good sized as well. Since I've only been here during lunch time, I haven't tried the drink menu. I'll have to go back some night and check it out. The waitstaff is also a main attraction. They are always looking out for their customers, and they are a riot if you're the type to joke around. My favorite part of this place though, is the patio. It's habitable even in the insane heat. They keep fans with water misters going to keep the patio nice and cool.

Jonathan J.

Yelp
If it's not the best... this is one of the best outside eating areas in Charlotte. Hands down! Big outdoor couches, televisions, and nice sized bar make for a real fall outdoor football Sunday atmosphere. Oh, did I mention the food? Yeah check out this local favorite soon!

Donna H.

Yelp
Good food. Good people. Good Service Trendy Myers Park "Go to "spot. If you know Charlotte you know the Selwyn Pub

Buddy M.

Yelp
This place is a joke. The food is good, but the service and management are absolutely terrible. They literally could not care less about getting orders correct and making sure their customers are happy. We used to go to this place frequently but it has gone down hill dramatically over the last couple years. Pathetic management. Miserable staff. Careless service. Hope they go under and someone with a brain and heart take over and bring it back to life.

Caroline H.

Yelp
Would give this place 5 stars for their drinks any day! But honestly wasn't pleased with the food we tried. We got the queso, salsa, guac trio dip, and a buffalo chicken slider. It was decent for bar food but would come here and pay for food again. But their drinks are amazing!! You get so many options at such a great price! My new favorite place for drinks on a beautiful afternoon!
