Details on Chef Elliott Moss’s Restaurant in Florence, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"A 13,000-square-foot brewery and attached restaurant space in Florence with current annual capacity near a thousand kegs that is slated for expansion and regional distribution. The owners closed on the purchase in June and are investing roughly $1 million to increase brewing capacity, redo the kitchen and restaurant, and make the venue more of a destination; the property also has personal significance to the chef, who sold pecans to the factory that once occupied the building as a child." - Eric Barton

Google
What a great place! Stopped here for lunch on the way to Hilton Head. Staff was SUPER! Food was excellent! Beers were tasty! Very dog friendly! Easy parking. Great prices!!

Google
We stopped here for lunch on our way through and so glad we did! I had the Wit and my husband had butter pecan. Both were great choices. The grilled chicken was VERY good. Cooked to perfection. Moist not dried out. Also the sweet fries are a great choice. They are remodeling but don't let that stop you from going to it. They have 15 beers on tap, lots of space and pool tables. We would def go back. 🍻

Google
We picked this brewery to stop at because it was a convenient distance from I-95 along US 52 in Florence. We did not know what to expect. We loved everything about it. It is roomy and airy inside with pool tables, a very nice bar and seating area. The bartenders were very well-mannered and informative. They made suggestions as we tried many of their styles. We ordered up our usual two flights to start things off. The brews were generally very good to excellent. It is difficult to pick a favorite, but I would recommend the Vectors Black Cascadian Dark Ale, which was simply amazing, and a collaboration effort with another SC brewery (Wild Heart). A trivia game got started during our visit that we could not stay long enough to join in, but we played along quietly for the first couple rounds and it was a lot of fun. We were on a roll and probably should have stayed. This was the kind of place that the next time we visit, we will safely assume going in that everything will taste good. We came in to try the beer and left very happy that we did stop in at Seminar.

Google
I was looking for real southern BBQ while we were down here and I found it. Best BBQ in the world may be true, best I have ever had for sure. I had the Trinity, a bit of everything, and all of it was amazing. Good beer too.

Google
Wow, Seminar has come so far since the early days. The original, middling brews are now supplemented with some very competent sours and a very well balanced barleywine, and their Solstice barrel aged stout can go toe-to-toe with offerings from breweries with nation-wide distribution. I came for the beer but the food is excellent as well - I cannot recommend the smoked pork steak enough. I'll be bringing visitors here to show them what Florence has to offer.

Google
Elliott's BBQ Lounge is such a vibe! The food is delicious and the service great.

Google
What a great find! The food smells amazing and everyone said it was...we had already eaten so bummer for us lol. But I was talked into an old fashioned with the "fat-washed" bourbon (look it up! Who knew!). and was pleasantly surprised...so I had 2 lol. If you stop in say "hey" to Ashley and KP for us! They're great! Everyone was great actually. Lots of beer & bbq. Plus they have pool tables and pin ball machines. Cool place, cool people.

Google
We’ve been a couple times recently and really enjoyed it. The new kitchen is really excellent. They have terrific burgers, wings and nachos. It’s great to stop and get a double cheeseburger and one of their pixel beers. It always seems like everything is very clean and organized, which is nice also.

Yelp
Seminar shares space with Elliot's bbq, and either or both are definitely worth your time. The space is roomy and comfortable, and servers are prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. Beers span a range from IPAs to more malty offerings and everything we tasted was fresh (and cold). I'm not sure what the arrangement with Elliot's is, but that's some great Carolina Q. Shredded pork tender and juicy, baby backs more delicate and savory, and the house sauce is a great example of Carolina vinegar, not too sweet and just spicy enough. We found a very relaxed, fun vibe, great beer and great Carolina pork BBQ. Head on down!

Yelp
We had a really great time here. We sat at the bar and were greeted promptly. The food was so good. The onion rings with that hot honey mustard was the perfect start. The burgers were cooked perfectly and had so much flavor in the meat. All the beer we tried were delicious. The spot itself is huge and seems like a great place to just hang out. We would definitely come back for sure!

Yelp
Elliot's at Seminar was fantastic. Loved the Pixels IPA. The service was quick and friendly. Nice space with comfortable seating. I had the pork nachos & the beer cheese was killer. My husband had the pork sandwich which must have had a pound of meat & the butter beans. Saw touches of Buxton Hall still present. Great stop for lunch or dinner if in Florence!

Yelp
Traveling Retirees on the road again. Not to get too wordy but great service and great beers and that was before the food we ordered came. We will come to Seminar Brewing any day of the week. Here on Sunday and so it is low key but with great family vibe. Haley and Noah were fantastic representatives of a great product.

Yelp
Nice brewery with a great bar and food. They were very welcoming. We had a flight of the beer they brew and they were all very good. We had their ribs and collard greens yummy.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Had smoked wings they were too Smokey for me. They are cooked good and the sauce was tasty. We had a large party and got a $200 charcuterie that was not worth $200. Beers were good. The server was very attentive to us

Christopher S.

Yelp
Oh yeah some of the best beer around found this place on a trip just passing through. on a 10th scale. It's a 10. Also the food there is top's. Family, friendly, terrific atmosphere everybody's happy when you're here you're at home.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
The food was good. The cole slaw could be better. A lot less mayonnaise would be better. My burger was perfect. The kitchen was very accommodating to my vegetarian wife. The beer selection and the atmosphere was excellent. The staff are excited about offering table service and the grand opening. We will give it another visit in 6 months. By then the new owner should have everyone in a nice cadence. Great renovation too.

Scott M.

Yelp
Wonderful service, food is wonderfully! I have never had a bad experience here best in Florence

Yelp
Elliot's at seminar brewing is top notch! Amazing food and staff! Go check them out!!

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent beverages, excellent food!!! You will not find anything else like this in Florence, South Carolina or the surrounding area

Yelp
We were traveling thru Florence, and decided to stop for some local BBQ. Were actually headed to another place that was highly rated on Yelp when we passed Elliott's at Seminar Brewing. Glad we made a U-turn and stopped. Fantastic food and BBQ! Very moist pulled pork with a great taste of smoke. The sauce really complimented the pork. I opted for the baked beans and potato salad, while my wife went with the potato salad and green beans. She only ate 1/2 the green beans because I stole the other half. All the sides were great, but the green beans may have been the best I've ever had, crispy with a smoky flavor. I do wish we were local to Florence to go on a Rib night, or when Elliott is smoking whole hogs. I'm sure Elliott's will be a hit with the locals, but it is close enough to I-95 to make it an easy stop for anyone passing through Florence. We will be back!!

Yelp
Call before you go, their website does not stay updated. We walked in after having driven for a couple of hours, they said they were closing early and turned us away. Interestingly there were lots of People in there.
google avatar

Lo R.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, a must stop if in the area. Family friendly. Nice selection of beer.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
What an awesome place. Great food and great beer. Plenty of inside and outside seating. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. We had the smoked wings, and a side of collards and fries.
google avatar

Monica N.

Yelp
I'm really want this place to work. Seminar has struggled with consistency and I am hopeful the new ownership and addition of Elliot's will help. What they need now is management. The food is great, people are nice but no one has a clue what is going on and have trouble when it's busy.
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
I wish it hadn't been rainy/raining when I stopped in. The interior is huge with plenty of seating and room to move around. They have live music and axe throwing. The food options are varied, but I can't speak to the quality. They don't allow dogs inside because they serve food, so I couldn't stay to sample their beers. There is a very large outside beer garden where pets are allowed. It looks like a great place to hang out on nicer days. Service was very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient, close to hotels if you're traveling, and not far from I-95 or I-20. I took cans of the Citrocity back to my hotel and was generally impressed. The tap list looked very interesting, I wish I could have stayed to sample more. All-in-all, this place is a recommended

Yelp
In honesty, we originally stopped at a brewery nearby, but while waiting to order got super negative vibes from the staff & decided to leave...best decision ever because our experience at Seminar was fantastic; a gem of a find along our long road trip. Arriving at 9:30pm (easy parking in their own on-site lot)-when they closed at 10pm- we nicely asked first did they mind us popping in so late for a brew & we were immediately greeted by the friendliest staff; not only telling us come on in, but offering samples & recommendations. Having had Pixels IPA before & rating 4stars, we were excited to try their other ample IPA varieties & opted for a flight (4brews 5oz $11). Megapixels 3star creamy clean citra Sobbing Mathematically 5star juicy hop forward, American that tastes hazy Citocity 5star fruity malty delicious combo Vanilla the Hun 5star didn't expect to like-let my husband chose a brew-but was damn creamy roasty, dark chocolate Blockhead 5star tropical hazy, light clouds creamy (they also offer half-pints $5-6 in lieu of full pints $7-8) While we just hung out at the bar, the space had a lot of offer including bar games, recreational games (pool, axe throwing, small arcade section), and food Amazing ambiance-patient, knowledgeable, welcoming staff- with amazing brews-very much wish we lived closer to be regulars-highly recommend

Chris W.

Yelp
My small group has been eating at Elliot's BBQ Lounge inside Seminar Brewing almost every Saturday night for over a year now. There is no other place I would rather eat at! "The Trinity" is one of my favorite meals from there. Who doesn't love BBQ, Ribs, and smoked jalapeno-cheese stuffed sausage on one plate WITH two sides? Even if you are not a BBQ fan (I know there are a few of you out there), the double mushroom Swiss burger is absolutely divine. Service is top-notch in a friendly environment. Elliot is a down-to-earth good guy who I truly believe loves watching people enjoy his food and having a good night at the brewery. I plan on supporting Elliot as much as possible, as he has gone above and beyond for my group.

Yelp
Stopped by here just to grab a quick drink on a Tuesday. In my opinion, I really liked the place. Their menu had some pretty well rated beer. Its a pretty spacious brewery with a couple of other games and recreational things inside like pool, axe throwing, and a small arcade section. I didn't try any of the food, but what looked like came out for some people seemed good. Overall, a great place to stop by and try out. Very spacious and a calm environment.

DC W.

Yelp
Great Food. Selection was good. Taste was excellent. Service spot on. Thank you.

Thomas W W.

Yelp
The beer is ok. Food is over priced. But more than anything the issue with this place is their unpredictable hours. I've gone in (having driven a good ways after work to get there) only to be turned away because of private parties. Both times A) I was not the only one turned away miffed B) management seemed confused about why this might actually be off putting to customers. Decide what you want to be, guys

Yelp
I really enjoyed just coming here on a Friday night! The food was really good and I can definitely see regulars that come here. The place is HUGE and spread out which threw me off. I wasn't sure what I was expecting. They have axe throwing and pool. The beers on tap were great! The bar tenders were super nice and approachable!

John R.

Yelp
My 100% absolute favorite place for beer and a meal. Elliott has brought a menu that is 2nd to none. Smoked everything is a definite must. Whether it's wings, ribs or brisket. Everything that comes out of the kitchen or smokehouse is delicious. They are redecorating so the atmosphere is going in the right direction. The beer is so very good. As an IPA man, Citrocity and Pixels are a must. You can't go wrong by making this your place to eat and drink.
google avatar

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Seminar Brewing is a great place to try new beers and have delicious pizza. The wait staff is very kind and patient and knowledgeable. The bathrooms are clean. I always enjoy our visits to Seminar Brewing.
google avatar

Greg S.

Yelp
Headline: First time for everything My girlfriend and I did the chocolate and beer tasting. This was the very first time Seminar brewery has done this. We were the test subjects. So here's the thing...those who ran it couldn't predict our taste buds, right? Ie all the things that were expected at this event..happened. The minor critique here is that the pairings didn't quite go well with the chocolates. There was literally one: a white chocolate bon that paired best with a sour beer. I do hope that seminar and chocobella keep doing more of these events.
google avatar

Brooke M.

Yelp
Super cute and a nice wild selection of brews. Really kind and welcoming servers and environment. Cool spot. Will return.

Frank J.

Yelp
Went on a Tuesday evening at 8:15 and was told they had stop serving food. First of all a bar closing at 9:00 is crazy and second off if your serving times are not the same nightly people will not come back
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
This gem was my first stop on my SC beer hop. They have a lot of interesting infused craft beers, a few you can walk out with a 6pk of if you don't have a growler. Found a few that I enjoyed. The bar menu didn't do much, it's really a drinking spot. I really like that you can see them brew in action. Go for a flight so that you can let your taste buds experience all to offer. This is a big open space with a few games as well. Great hang out spot, and even better event space.
google avatar

Hollie L.

Yelp
This place was fun and the food and beers were good. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because with it being 90 degrees outside it definitely needed to pump up the AC. We ordered a ton of appetizers thinking because of it being an axe throwing place the apps would be small. We were shocked to find out they were HUGE. My favorite was the soft pretzels. They give 3 dipping sauces and the pretzels were the softest I've ever had which I loved. The onion rings were good too. I'm not a big fan of nachos but even those were good and one order can feed an entire table. Definitely try the cider. I'm not usually one to like cider but it tastes more like a lemonade beer and wasn't to tart. Was very enjoyable on a hot day.
google avatar

Tom D.

Yelp
Super fun at osphere, and food people! We all had appetizers and drinks and were not let down at all! I would drive an hour to Florence just to come here!
google avatar

Franklin R.

Yelp
My family and I stopped in for a beer and axe throwing. We did not throw axes because the $20 per hour/per person is kind of steep especially when you have six people in a group. That significantly cuts down on throwing time for each person. That's just an observation not criticism. The beer was great and the atmosphere was awesome.

Don S.

Yelp
All the beer tastes like they dumped vodka in it. Food tastes like they ran to Walmart and plugged in the $50 air fryer. Not to mention. The prices are silly gooses lousy! $9 for piss mixed with shit and vodka. The ambience.....turn on the AC. 2 stars for the axe throwing! Solid!
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Florence has great brewery here serving good beer and food. The building is huge, very open with tall pub tables, a few picnic tables, and the large bar. Then the brewery is right there in the open, the night I visited they were canning up beer. I love breweries cause beer can be so different, and amazing. Nothing better than local beer. The beer menu was broad with ales, saisons, IPAs and some stouts. But the Howler was my favorite, a red ale that was rich, smooth, and low bitterness. Loved it! Add the food menu and Seminar offers a fun place to meet your friends, or coworkers to enjoy local brew and food. Friendly service, great atmosphere, everything to enjoy your brew.
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
The bar lady was real helpful and the selection was interesting and I really wanted to like this place. The beer is not bad except it's not really memorable. The place is cool with pool tables and some decent food and they share a spot with Blade & Bull Axe Throwing, so you can have some fun here, but it's out of the way and honestly I don't think I'd make the trip on purpose. I'm sure it's a great local hangout, but I was passing through on 95 and this was my second trip and I think i'll try a different city next time.

Stephen A.

Yelp
Don't eat the food if you have any allergies or vegetarian, or don't like anything covered in grease. No sympathy from the staff, the could not care in the least. Only consolation is the beer was acceptable. We won't be back.
google avatar

jenny t.

Yelp
Was reminded the review that I have missed posting. Your reputation made to Cali. Twice back to SC, twice here! Seminar is definitely the place to be. Always enjoy the hospitality, company & drinks. Very spacious, lots of parking, can accommodate large groups & it's family friendly. Will be back when we are next in town.

Yelp
I just relocated my Daughter from Massachusetts to Florence, South Carolina. It so happens that my niece and her fiancé live in the same area. After a very long drive. Moving and assembling furniture I needed a break. My niece suggested a local place they enjoy, the Blade and Bull ax throwing at Seminar Brewing. She said we could have some beer and throw some axes! Throw axes and drink beer, only in the south can you find such a fantastic cosmopolitan night out. (That was tongue and cheek) This place is cool. Yes, they brew their own beers, right on the same floor with the tables and bars, and yes, ax throwing lanes. You come in, order beer, sign a waiver (LoL), order bar food, and are assigned a throwing lane or two. It runs about twenty bucks a person for an hour, not including the beer and food. I can tell you from personal experience that your throws seem to get better the more beer you drink. Speaking of the beer, they have a very talented brewmaster, or they are the luckiest folks south of the Mason Dixon line. I would leave a review of each of the beers that I tried, but the selection seems to change regularly. Suffice to say it was excellent. The food is tasty, and the portions are very generous. I am guessing this is to absorb some of the alcohol so you can throw straight. Just in case you can't throw straight, the ax-throwing lanes are separated by a chain-link fence. Instruction is provided. I want to point out these are not throwing axes but Harbor Freight and Home Depot Specials. I was dubious but was throwing underhanded and hitting the bullseye after 15 or 20 minutes. If you are looking for a fun night out with a group of friends, this is it.

Yelp
This is a very cool brewery in Florence (Florence's first commercial brewery!) that you can easily hang out in for hours at a time! They have a limited food menu (wow, those fries though.....) to keep you going, and an impressive and extensive list of brews. We loved the couch and TV set up inside. We could have hung out there all day watching Sunday football! As it stood, we stayed a couple of hours longer than we planned. Both the inside and outside of the brewery are huge and the outdoor courtyard and tables are really great! I loved the NE IPA Pixels, the DIPA Megapixels and the DS4. Love the artwork / labels and names of all their beers and just think this place is so much fun and very friendly. Bar staff was also great. Will definitely go back when we are in the area again.
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
Very cool place. Nice beer garden. The system staff are friendly. The beers were great. My wife does not drink she liked the way every thing was set up. When we are back in town we will be back or we may make a trip just to here

Alaina H.

Yelp
I wish I would have taken a picture of the wings that I was served. They were the smallest wings I had ever seen. If you are unable to get decent wings from your suppliers, just take them off the menu for the time being. I also ordered the nachos. Although the description said they would come with shredded cheese, they were basically squeeze cheese bowling alley nachos. I wish I could say that the beer saved the day but it was average at best. I am not sure how this place has 4+ stars on Yelp, but clearly the people that are reviewing have not been to good breweries before.

Christina L.

Yelp
Their hours state open until 11:00 on Sundays and we got there at 9:00 and their doors were locked and there were a few people inside. Terrible business model.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Seminar brewing, located in Florence, was worth the 30 minute detour on our way to Myrtle. There is an adorable beer garden outside. Inside, there are picnic tables and other four top tables with chairs where you can enjoy a beer or some delicious food from their adjoining restaurant. They have boars games available to play and video games that require quarters. There is a pool table, table shuffleboard, foosball and giant Jenga. The beer was great! Pixels, their flagship, and all of the variations did not disappoint. The bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious! They even offered a kids menu and a soda fountain station for those who don't drink beer. Well done, Seminar, well done!
google avatar

Nygel P.

Yelp
What a great atmosphere! The customer service in this brewery was outstanding. The bartenders were great and very knowledgeable about the beers. The Pixel IPA was my favorite but I did not have a bad beer in the flight. My wife who is not a beer drinker enjoyed a concoction that they made for her! We have great beers and threw some axes, it does not get any better.

Duane T.

Yelp
Amazing beer. Food was awesome. Highly recommend this place. Very large space indoors and outdoors. Axe throwing indoors. Very large bar with lounge and separate restaurant. These guys found a really nice space and are using it well.

Yelp
Great Brewery!! The just moved into this old pecan factory about a year and a half ago. The space is a spacious open floor plan with lots of seating and standing room. They also have a variety of different games for entertainment including corn hole, skee-ball, a variety of board games, darts, giant Jenga, pinball, etc. Me, my dad, and wife came here to kill some time before the Travis Tritt concert. My wife and I grabbed a flight while we waited and we all played giant Jenga. A ton of fun!! My favorite was Vanilla the Hun. I'm not a big dark beer drinker but the nice lady behind the bar recommended it since it was very good even though she was not a dark beer drinker as well & she was right because it ended up being my favorite one! This was my dad's first brewery visit and the staff were very nice and helpful at helping us give him more information on what breweries are like. Can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy the outdoor beer garden!

P B.

Yelp
Ok let me tell you why 1, if I could give a 0 it would be. The staff fabulous!! The beer not bad and trust me I have tried many, the food not horrible, for wings and pizza. The one comes from, this day and age with all of he frickin germs, this man comes from around the bar, takes his dirty glass and rinses it on the beer rinse and pours his beerdo you think I want your germs???? Then we asked who that was and they said the ownerdude really????? and I proceeded to tell the bartender and it never got washed off
google avatar

Bethany V.

Yelp
Very great beer! Try the DS3 if you like an IPA! It was my favorite :) Huge area with a lot of places to sit and they have skee ball!!!!! Also have darts, board games, card games & corn hole. Only thing is that it was lacking people. Quite boring to just sit there in a near empty brewery on a Saturday night, but hopefully that picks up!!

David M.

Yelp
I travel a lot, and usually look for a brewpub to eat and drink. There is something about local craft beer and fresh food that just goes well together. It is uncommon to find a place that does so many things so badly. Let's start with the service. We sat at the bar. Most places that have bartenders expect the bartender to interact with the customers. This place was nearly empty and it took over 5 minutes for her to take our beverage order. I ordered the citrocity beer, or as I'll call it from now on, crappy ipa. The beer was somewhat flat, had very little flavor and left a distinct dirt taste for its finish. Many of you have been to multiple breweries and know the taste. My wife had the seltzer, which was remarkable for the flavor it was missing. We started our meal with fried pickles. The pickles came out quickly. The ranch dressing tasted like it came from Aldi. The pickles were hot and incredibly greasy. I ordered the chicken cheese steak. Chicken and cheese on a stale bun. The other toppings were missing. The chicken tasted raw. My side was sweet potato fries, which came out cold and covered in oil. I've been to brewpubs in 46 states and this place is hands down the worst in 46 states. Do yourselves a favor next time you're hungry, go buy a bud light and a hot dog off the rollers at the gas station.
