A Chile Road Trip on the I-25 from Las Cruces to Denver | Eater

"A Denver spot serving a pork-chop entree prepared adovada-style and smothered in a meaty, assertive green chile—hefty, flavorful, and regionally true." - Gustavo Arellano

I’ve eaten at Senior Burritos for over 25 years. It’s one of my go to Mexican restaurants. This is the new location they just relocated to and the good food hasn’t changed. The owners have always been friendly so the service is great. It’s like comfort food to me. They start off by giving you chips and salsa. This is one of my favorite classic salsas around the Denver area. The green chile has a perfect texture of not too thick, and not too runny. I usually get a beef burrito smothered with green chile. It comes with beans in the burrito by default which I don’t like. I’d ask without the beans and only make it beef. It’s the green chile fries that’s my favorite. The fries are just right in thickness and come out nice and crispy similar to a McDonald’s fries. They are cooked just right, and so you get the French fry flavor with green chile, with each complimenting the other. The have a habanero hot sauce with a deep flavor that I really enjoy. It gives a little kick. Overall, good food, great service.

If you’re looking for breakfast burrito or lunch or any other type of authentic Mexican food, this business has been around for 34 years and I will tell you you can tell by the way this food taste. One of the best breakfast burritos I’ve ever had super fresh Great ingredients and very tasty.

So grateful there is a Senor Burritos so much closer to home now, we had the shredded beef Burrito and they were delicious. We definitely recommend, the customer service is top notch!!! Wish more restaurants had this at home feeling to them definitely one of a kind!

Google
My favorite spot. They are at a new location: 7195 Federal Blvd. They have the best green chili AND the best salsa in my opinion. All fresh ingredients made by hand daily!

My wife and I had dinner here last night and were thoroughly impressed. The restaurant was spotless clean and smelled great which is my first indication of a good restaurant. We ordered the Chile rellenos and chicken enchiladas—both dishes came out quickly, were piping hot, and absolutely bursting with flavor. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. It’s rare to find a place that delivers on taste, service, and atmosphere, but this one truly does. We’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic, delicious food and a warm dining experience!

Finally! Have been waiting for them to open their Westminster location. I've been eating at the Broadway location for decades back when their Dad ran it. The food is always rock solid and consistent. BTW, they have some of the best chicharrones in the city. I also enjoy the Mexican hamburger and their burritos. Simply put, you can't go wrong.

Google
First time back to SB in a looong time. Remembered they had good green chile and memory served me correct. This is more of the Denver orange chile, prob because of added tomatoes and love for the Broncos. Flavor and spice were good. Not sure what they add, maybe corn starch as it’s almost the consistency of a hot n sour soup. Tortillas are homemade and perfectly thick and cozy. Worth a visit for sure.

Yelp
This new spot just opened up in our area had to go try. It drove up the parking lots very clean windows entryway restaurant itself. It's very clean and very inviting few TVs were on a lot of people chatting it up enjoying their breakfast we were immediately greeted and seated love that chips and salsa was brought to our table with our drinks. No alcohol in the house Waited for a little bit too long to order our breakfast. We ordered got her breakfast. I wasn't happy at all with the burrito that I ordered which was a Breakfast burrito steak eggs and potatoes. I forgot to put the potatoes in the eggs were over cooked and it was very bland taste in even though it was a smothered burrito. There was too much cheese on top that absorb the chili And it left it kind of dry..... All in all the building inside and out was very clean people very friendly TV is not on loud at all. Bathrooms are very clean and stocked. I might have to go back and try something different just to taste other menu items.... Thanks For The Read Until Next Time....

Yelp
Best Smothered Burritos in Denver! The Green Chile is to die for, ask for chicharrones on top. The service is always the best, very friendly and welcoming. The New Location is very bright and open. Overall a great place to have breakfast or lunch or brunch!

Yelp
So I was starving after school and needed a quick fix and not feeling fast food..yuck I saw this up ahead and decided to check yelp out in the parking lot. They had only a few reviews, but enough to make my mouth water and not to mention I love the drive thru cuz I'm not a fan of wearing scrubs in public. So I ordered several things to try since I literally was STARVIN!!!! I would've loved to have gotten them smothered, but wanted to eat while I drove home. Denver Breakfast Burrito - this was really good aside from the fact it was a bit juicy, so it dripped on my uniform, but never the less delicious and I will get this again. Chorizo Break. B. - this was my least favorite and it had mostly just refried beans and I couldn't even taste the chorizo in it! I def. won't get this again EVER! Carne Asada Burr. - I liked this a lot and it was fully packed and heavier than the breakfast ones. This was another tasty choice. Chicken Chimichanga - this was under the house specialty menu and was smothered. I Really liked this and the CC was crunchy even with the green chile all over it. It was very delicious. Order of Green Chile - nice and spicy, but not too much. I like that you could actually taste the meat chunks in it and it wasn't just all soup like. Order of Salsa - oooh, I liked this a lot and it was really spicy too. I ate it with my tortilla chips I had waiting for me at home. All and all I really am glad I found this place & it's easy to get to right off of the freeway and then back on. It's affordable, though it seems morning time has the good specials for cheap which obviously I haven't had the pleasure of yet trying, which maybe I will one day. It's a full on dive place and pretty much the whole area around it looks dare I say "ghetto" is too nice of a term because It looked like a place where shootings or bullets would fly right by or thru you. But if you don't mind dumpy areas, then hey give this place a try for Sure. It may take awhile if you order stuff like me because they make everything right when you order it, and it's worth the wait.

Yelp
Occupying the building of the former Playa De Oro, on Federal Blvd, Senor Burritos opened in December 2012. We stopped in this morning to try the $2 breakfast burritos. Today's $2 special was the bacon, egg, potato, chili, and cheese burrito. They are half the size of the regular breakfast burritos, but they are still quite large. She had one, I had two. Now, I am stuffed. Here, the breakfast burritos stand out to me because they have more eggs than most of the others that I have tried. They are made to order as you wait, as opposed to pre-prepped and wrapped in foil. The protein in the $2 burrito changes daily between -- bacon, ham, and chorizo. After devoting the past few months to trying breakfast burritos, I think that there needs to be categories -- $2 BBs / $3 BBs / $4 BBs / and $5+ BBs. To date, Senor Burritos has the best $2 breakfast burritos around. However, the Chik-fil-a rule applies here. That is, don't crave them on Sundays because they are not open on Sundays to spend time with their family. Knowing this, you know you will want one on A Sunday. Damn that Chik-fil-a rule. Finally, I must comment on how incredibly clean this place is. Unlike most fast casual places that move the people through, this place was spotless inside. I like that.

Yelp
I was coming back from the airport, and wanted a solid breakfast burrito before I got home. They had a great $2 burrito special, but I decided to get their full sized burrito instead. Eggs, potato, and chorizo. Amazing! The salsa had a bite, but it didn't blot out the taste. And the chorizo was perfect. The proprietor was super cool too. Let me try their green chile and salsas before ordering so I could choose what I wanted. They also have a drive through and a simple place to eat inside. This isn't a fancy Mexican place - just good solid simple food.

Yelp
Another of my favorite Mexican restaurants, This place serves terrific food. George ( owner of this family run chain) is friendly, and easy to talk to. Food is made fresh and delivered quickly. The food is orientated around burritos (look at the name folks!). My favorite is the $2 breakfast burritos, I often stop and get enough for the whole office and no one is ever disappointing. The green chili is also a fan favorite, the mild has a lot of flavor yet mild enough even for my wife, and the hot has a lot of flavor, but enough of a bite to entice even those that are really looking for spice in a meal. I promise the rice is not from a box. Stop and try this place out, You will not be disappointing.

Yelp
Guys night dinner with my son, we ended up here after baseball practice. The food is good, the owner is a mellow guy with good energy. We were chatting it up at the end of a long day. Food is good, tacos are bomb, salsa is spicy and people are friendly. All he's missing is a liquor license. Word.

Yelp
Horrible experience! Our mexican hamburger was the worst. The tortilla was like rubber and there was barely any beans and with a hamburger patty that I could not cut thru. We left our food and I had to go home and cook. Second, the waitress could not validate my coupon since her manager was gone. Third the waitress ran my card twice, I noticed her having trouble with my card and she said nothing and brang receipt to sign. Thank God my bank text me when a double charge hits. I was still sitting there so I showed her and she than reversed it. Bad experience.

Yelp
Really good Mexican food--affordable too! There are quite a few choices around here so if you're unsure just choose this place

Yelp
Good food, prices, convenience, and service. I stopped in for a quick bite and was pleased. They promptly served me chips and salsa and a water while I looked over the menu. The deluxe version of the Chili Relleno burrito that comes smothered with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and sour cream cost me $7 total. They open as early as 6am for you early risers, and they did not have beer or wine as listed on their Yelp page. I would come back.

Yelp
I've been eating here, mostly breakfast on the way to work since it opened around 2011. The place is immaculately clean and the staff is friendly but busy. If you're in to "hot", this is not your place but if you like great fresh flavor it's great. It's not often you find a place where the owner and cook even breaks down the pork and beef himself rather than have it come in frozen. The huevos rancheros are great as well as the deluxe chorizo breakfast burrito. Hopefully this place sticks around for a long time. Good locally owned and run home cooking restaurant. Even the quickie small 2 buck breakfast burritos are really good. Went back, it's been sold. Bummer

Yelp
Great value, tasty burritos, friendly staff, and very clean. It's a burrito joint, so don't try to compare it to a "sit down" restaurant. Nice neighborhood spot. Will be back often.

Yelp
food was pretty good ( hard to mess up Mexican food). The menu had a veggie option which I thought was very nice. The staff spoke fluently both english and spanish (good for the area) My meal was out quickly and they have some great desserts. I would say its a 4.5/5

Yelp
Great food. Friendly staff. The owner is a really nice guy who cares about his customers. I love the breakfast burrito daily special for 2$ dollars. Highly reccomend this place.

Yelp
I tried their burritos today (bean & chicharron smothered) and it was delicious.! I got it to-go and it included salsas on the side. I can say that I like it more than some of the surrounding burrito places in the Westminster area. I would recommend anyone to go and try their food. One thing I also noticed was that the restaurant was clean and inviting. I will be back for sure!

Stacey Y.

Yelp
This place is dirty, food does not taste good. The best location is on Kipling. This location is not good

Yelp
Just moved to Colorado recently and have never had green chili smothered burritos before. I've tried many "local favorites" and none of them compare to Senor Burritos. They're the best and we eat there at least once a week! The smothered chili cheese fries are the bomb!

Tarre S.

Yelp
We stopped in here today for lunch when we couldn't find a different place we were looking for. It was really good. It's one square room that used to be a fast food joint of some kind, sparse with a few tables and chairs, but clean. The food was really good. We ordered chicken chimichangas that were really just burritos - mine did not appear to have been French fried, but it was very good. The red chili sauce smothering it was mild. They called it green chili, but it was red. The salsa was very good with a bit of a bite and you can tell freshly made. We also tried the relleno plate - the pepper was mild but meaty and the egg coating was perfect. For a soft relleno, this was probably the best one I've ever had, and I've had hundreds. The beans and rice were standard fare, nothing special, the lettuce and tomato garnish fresh and crisp. We also asked for ice water and were served large, glass glasses, not tiny plastic glasses like in some restaurants. Cold water always tastes so good in a cold glass glass. We loved the waitress. Very efficient yet unobtrusive. I cannot think of anything bad to say and we'll definitely be going back.
