The grub here is old skool street/beach tacos %1,000,000. Everything is homemade and sooo yummy. The staff, The cooks and bartender are top notch! We absolutely loved the salsas, pastor, chorizo and quesobirilla. Felt right at home with the first impression of this place of course being on Taco Tuesday 👍🏼 They stay open late till 11pm.... so go get your grub on!!

Since our arrival in San Diego I was looking forward to having an authentic California Burrito. My wife and I looked around and searched for a spot that looked promising and couldn’t have made a better choice than Senor Grubby’s. This place really blew us away, from the service to the atmosphere and most importantly the food. The Cali Burrito had amazing meat, well seasoned, tender and plentiful and the right amount of cilantro, pico, cheese, and most importantly fries. It didn’t disappoint. We decided to sit out back at the bar which was nice, very casual and cozy. Also, the TJ hot dog sounded interesting so we had to give it a try. It also was delicious.

This is a must eat any time I’m in the area. Tacos are amazing, yummy margaritas, salsas are sooo good, complimentary pickled carrots and jalapeños are tasty. I always sit outside and watch the Padres.

Google
We ate here at 11:30am, and from the taste of it the meat was yesterday's. Fish and the birria were both super dry, and in huge chunks that would fall out of the burritos. For a $20 burrito I'd expect better.

Google
This place blew my mind. I had some absolutely delicious shrimp tacos. The man who took my order was very helpful with the menu and my order. Even though I had a soda from the dispenser, the bartender checked on me to see if everything was okay. The food came out and the seasonings were expertly cooked into the shrimp, which made these shrimp tacos positively mouth-watering. Definitely will be returning here.

I was hosting a day after wedding party at my AirBNB in Vista and I reached out to Senor Grubby to have them deliver food for the party a week before the event. Natalie was very helpful and attentive and got the order down and promised it would be delivered fresh and on time. She followed up with me a couple of times from the original order and was flexible on the day of when I asked her to deliver and hour earlier. The food arrived on time, fresh ands hot, and was spectacular. All of my guests complimented the food and asked where I ordered from. It was a great experience from order to delivery to eating. I highly recommend them for their service, attention to detail and the quality of the food.

Google
My wife ordered the chiliqullias and they were delicious...I ordered the original breakfast burrito and I'm telling you I'll be coming back. It's a little pricy but what isn't these days. It was around 35 for 2 meals and 1 drink.

Google
This is a great spot off the beaten path. The service was exceptional and you can choose indoor or outdoor seating. The patio is also dog friendly and they have free dog treats. The california burrito with vegan cheese was delicious!

Yelp
Quick notes: food is always on point. Been coming here for quite a few years for the diabla shrimp tacos alone! Service is friendly and casual. Clean and a ton of seating. You can bring the fam or grab seats at the bar or bring pups and sit in the back patio. Shrimp Diabla, garlic shrimp, and Baja fish tacos are my faves. The Oceanside burritos is the hubby's favorite.

Yelp
We always make a stop at Senior Grubby's when we're in Carlsbad for vacation. We like the authentic Mexican street food. They have good margaritas, good salsa, and I like their hand pressed corn tortillas. I almost always get their street fish tacos. They use Mahi Mahi and you can get them fried or grilled. I also enjoy their fish burrito, it comes with grilled or beer battered Tilapia and a chipotle cream sauce. I've had the Shrimp Diablo burrito too, it's good if you can handle the spice! We love sitting outside on the back patio. They usually have a game on. Grubby's is casual, great service, and great food!

Yelp
Super disappointed with my meal at Senor Grubby's today. I've been twice before and always enjoyed my food, but it's been a few years so maybe things have changed. I had three of the blandest tacos I think I've ever had. I ordered the garlic shrimp (which had absolutely no garlic or seasoning), grilled mahi mahi (which was completely plain and had no flavor), and pollo asado. I was hopeful that the pollo asado would at least be decent since it looks seasoned, but it hardly had any flavor at all. The guacamole was kind of watery and was almost the consistency of avocado salsa. It seems like they add water to it to stretch it out. I might have given 3 stars because my husband thought his burrito was OK, but we paid $50 with tip for a mostly less than mediocre meal.

Yelp
It been a while since I've been here..... they were celebrating 30 yrs in business... music... giveaways... lot's of people.. the burritos are extra large .... Cook staff are very efficient... Margaritas are just okay...... Some parking in back...

Yelp
Senor Grubby has never be really disappointing but today it was totally awesome :) 4 people at the bar, including my 76 years old mom, had a blast with street tacos. A Huge plus for the shrimp a la diabla taco, mine was perfectly seasoned and very tasteful... My old mom has a blast with the Nopale and grilled fish tacos. I like to seat outside at the bar, there is always a good vibe, great staff, friendly patrons and perfect "beach" vibe even though you can't see the ocean, you feel it! Senor Grubby offers a lot of specials no matter within or outside happy hours. Great place for a quick grub and a good skinny margarita. Make sure you check the salsa bar!

Yelp
Señor Grubby's never disappoints! We make it a stop every time we are in Carlsbad. It was a beautiful sunny Carlsbad day, so the four of us (two couples) sat out back on the patio. We guys opted for the Padres game day special. Bacon wrapped hot dogs stuffed into a pretzel bun. $12 for two. We ordered two and split each one in half so we could both try a half. Padre's Dog: Machado Topped with shrimp Diabla, chipotle cream, and Pico de Gallo. This dog was fantastic! The shrimp were plentiful and spicy! Perfectly grilled. The chipotle sauce was so good. The bacon wrapped dog was a biggie and delicious. Padre's Dog: El Niño Topped with chorizo, cilantro, onion, and cheese. Another fat dog wrapped in bacon. It was covered with chorizo and it, too, was excellent. The wives had Grubby's Famous Street Tacos Served on fresh corn tortillas They chose carnitas. The three tacos were about three bites each. The perfect size for a snack. They each enjoyed one and I devoured the last one. Excellent carnitas. Excellent taco. Service as usual at Grubby's was outstanding at the bar on the patio. Get your gtub on at Grubby's!

Yelp
My husband has been telling me about this place for a while now. So I'm glad we remembered to try it for dinner before going over to NVA to see a show. Ordered just a couple of burritos: machaca and a shrimp diablo. Pretty expensive for two burritos. But at least when they came, they were well prepared, tasty and large. My shrimp burrito had nice size shrimp that were not overcooked, a lot of shredded cabbage and a delicious sauce. My husband's machaca was also very good with shredded beef, eggs, peppers and onions. The salsas were all very interesting each one with a unique flavor profile. I liked the vibe of this casual bar. They have both inside and outside seating and plenty of tvs tuned the Padres. It'll be on our come back list when we drive back to Carlsbad to catch some theater.

Yelp
We came in here because we were hungry for tacos and we were not disappointed. Everything was so good, but the Star was actually the salsa! The restaurant was clean and the food came out pretty quickly! Will definitely be back when I'm in the area for some tacos!!

Yelp
Al Pastor anything for the win! Add fries in a burrito for two. Solid drinks. Great service. This place looks a bit dive-ish but it is a jem.
google avatar

Daniella P.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance inside. It felt like a beach taco shack which was really cool. There was lots of seating available as well. The bartender outside was really sweet to us and we ordered margaritas with her. I ended up getting the shrimp tacos which didn't take too long coming out. The shrimp tasted so fresh and each bite was absolutely delicious. Amazing place and kind workers!!

Yelp
I know we're in Carlsbad with laid back coastal town vibes, but the customer facing staff need to learn the basics in communication skills. At the very least smile. The burritos are decent but not good enough to merit the ugly personalities in this establishment. And at least take a shower before work, no ones wants to see dirty fingernails and greasy hair from restuarant staff.

Yelp
This is a great stop on the way to the beach from the village. Ordered a taco plate- 3 street tacos and a side for a pretty high price point of $17. The grilled fish and shrimp were great, but the pork missed the flavor mark for me. Also 3 tacos is a hefty serving size for one but does make it hard to split. The rice and beans as a side was also good, and they added pineapple slices as well. My to-go order came with a fork and napkins which is always appreciated because I headed down to the beach to catch the sunset. Casual, beach service, a bit laid back but was quick around early dinner time on a Wednesday. Because of the price point this might be a once in awhile stop!

Yelp
I have been here for the first time, but now, this is my second time. The food was very fresh and delicious, there was awesome service, great ambiance, and nice upbeat music, too.

Yelp
Best tacos! My daughter and I came here for lunch, they had outdoor seating which was great for my pup. They even got her a bowl of water. The tacos were AMAZING! I got the Baja fish taco and the Diablo shrimp taco, my daughter got the chicken tacos. I also enjoyed the Blood orange beer. I will 100% be coming back!

Veronica R.

Yelp
usually love this restaurant, but this time I was really disappointed. Food is delicious but the waitress was very rude and unprofessional. Disappointed with the service
google avatar

Nina M.

Yelp
Perfectly fine option but not particularly memorable. Definitely priced higher per the tourist location. I didn't like that corn chips are an extra $3 when the burritos average $16 already but it is what it is.
google avatar

Tajuana C.

Yelp
They really need to have more than one tender during happy hour. I felt so bad for the girl there but hey who knows, maybe someone called out. We went there for happy hour and it's not that bad. Gotta beer and a skinny margarita for under $20 and I appreciate that
google avatar

Patty B.

Yelp
We'll I really like their bean and cheese I usually order extra cheese and wet with red sauce well it adds up to 16. And change after tip. So I asked hey can I get a little chips( like I would get if I ate at the restaurant. She said"no we don't give out chips" I am paying 16. Dollars for a bean and cheese burrito which is always really good but today it's cold and I picked it up with in 5 mins if ordering it. So not very happy with today's customer service. Today is 8/17/2025 and it's around 3:00 pm so I didn't get the lady's name who was basically rude to me but I really don't think asking for a few chips for my burrito was called for"we don't give out chips" won't be going back. Thank you

Yelp
Came here because we were craving tacos. The location is close to the water so after a beach day in Carlsbad or just to watch some sports. You can't miss the building as it has a huge mural on the side of the building. You're greeted by the colorful decor and TV's displayed with the sport games of the night. There's open seating after you order indoor or outdoor. They have certain beers on tap and a good selection of tacos. The 3 tacos with sides is about $4.75 a taco. I think I would prefer another taco instead of the sides lol. The seafood was fresh. Other than ordering food we never saw the servers. It seemed more of a service yourself vibe. If you're not into sports it can be loud and wild at times with people cheering overly loud. Who can blame them with the beer on tap and decent drink menu.

Yelp
I've been to Senor Grubby's a few times for tacos and I'm glad we have a place like this in the Carlsbad Village. If you're looking for fish tacos with a great taco toppings bar; head to Senor Grubby's. The best thing about this spot is the location; it's a few blocks from the ocean. The key to the most amazing day? Grab some tacos, some guacamole for take out, and walk the few blocks down to the beach...especially around sunset. Watching the sunset at the beach while eating a few Grubby's tacos is like peak life. There's also a bar and the vibe seems cool, although I haven't really dined in too often here. The only drawback? The beach location prices.
google avatar

Renee P.

Yelp
Love me some Grubbys! Excellent happy hour, burritos, tacos, margs...with a cute patio and easy, friendly order at the counter service. Excellent salsa bar. Favorites are Baja fish tacos, birra tacos, and classic marg or one of the specials. I do with their guacamole was more on the chunkier style vs blended but I'll still order to pair with any taco. Chill spot in Carlsbad Village to eat or close enough to the beach to take your burrito to go for a view.
google avatar

Yelp
Location is good. Food lacked spice and flavor. The beans had no salt and the rest of the food needed lots of salsa.
google avatar

Alisha O.

Yelp
Every time I'm in the area for vacation I stop here. Food is always good and I've tried a few items and service is fast even when busy. Today I wanted something simple and got a bean and cheese burrito. Price was great and the size of the burrito was even better! Most places are skimpy with the beans but not here! Overall I'm happy with my choice

Connor M.

Yelp
Had the bacon dog with shrimp and aioli. This was my first time trying something of this style. It was such a good combo and the pretzel dog really made it. The service was fast and the bartender was so nice and friendly. I mostly stick to lagers and their Grubby's lager was fantastic. The inside was clean with lots of room for customers. Padres bar, Go when there's a game for deals!

Yelp
First time coming here. I've heard it's a local favorite so decided to try it when I was in the area. It was pretty disappointing. I got a California burrito because it's a good way to compare taco shops with a classic San Diego style. If you had told me this was a Cali burrito I would've have believed you. It was 80% pico de gallo. I never once tasted any meat and only saw the fries one time. I love a good pico but this was basically a pico burrito. Not at all up to the rep I've heard of for this place. The hot sauces were spicy and each had their own unique flavor however none of them were particularly good. The last weird issue was they had the heat turned up inside to the Max at 4pm. It was 65 degrees outside with a full power heater blowing down on our table inside. All the staff were very nice and polite but I'm afraid it wouldn't worth a second trip if I were in the area.

Bobby R.

Yelp
Ordered burritos to pick up to eat at the beach. The first burrito was ok but very salty and only slightly warm. They didn't put enough ingredients in the fill the tortilla so it was floppy and hard to hold. The second burrito was so quickly slopped together that the tortilla barely closed. The foil around the burrito was cut too small and didn't wrap the burrito completely so that the whole thing started falling apart as soon as as it was taken out of the bag. Trying to eat it was difficult and messy but could have been accomplished if the burrito was worth it. Unfortunately, it was cold, the flavors were bland and it was not worth the trouble. I was disappointed that I spent $30+ and our stomachs were still grumbling with hunger.

Mckenzie M.

Yelp
Yum!! Always come here when I get the chance!! Lots of great options to choose from and very great that they serve breakfast all day. Workers are so sweet and food is wonderful! Always hot and fresh.
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I used to come all of the time while they still had the country grubby which was 5/5. I got a regular breakfast burrito one year and it was too potato-y and didn't come back for a couple of years. Finally decided to try again and got a chorizo burrito. It was definitely delicious and big, but kind of pricey ($15). Service is and was always great!

Michael B.

Yelp
Food was great, if that's the review you're looking for. On the service side: Bartender on the patio was straight up disrespectful for no reason (mustache man). There were two groups outside, ourselves and another group. The bartender yelled at the other group to be quiet for no reason. They were not bothering us or were loud enough to be a noise complaint. Not sure why it happened but rubbed all of us the wrong way and caused us to leave.
google avatar

Yelp
We made a late night dinner "run" for our manager meeting down the street at the hotel, and the food was excellent. We ordered like 40+ tacos "to go" last minute, they knocked it out, and we took it back to the hotel, and they were delicious. Thanks to the staff that worked tonight, and for accommodating 20 of our employees last minute. The restaurant had a really cool atmosphere. Picture is not doing the food justice, but the pastor and carnitas were .

Teri C.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant. We were greeted right away and sat outside. Ordered drinks and food. Both of them were delicious and the service was outstanding. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Sheila C.

Yelp
Food was awesome, service was friendly and fast. Ambience is like a cool little Mexican joint in Mexico. The bar had a cool vibe as well. I would definitely go back again!
google avatar

Melia A.

Yelp
- Spicy Surf & Turf Burrito was not spicy like the cashier said it was going to be, what made it "spicy" was the chipotle sauce and it was just a mouthful of cabbage and not much shrimp. - I recommend the Al Pastor tacos though , the Carne Asada was pretty disappointing/ no flavor. - Rice & Beans were average I love the outdoor area patio though along with the lounge chairs and tvs in the back.
google avatar

Denise Y.

Yelp
A local recommendation and truly did not disappoint. Run - don't walk to get the Bitchin' Torta. I'm not a sandwich gal and encouraged my husband to get it. I had to restrain myself from eating his sandwich instead if him! And I enjoyed my Shrimp & Mahi Mahi Ceviche. Cool decor - very friendly staff. They do understand not every one likes onions and even have a pico without onions. I told my husband we may have to come back before we travel back to Kansas City.

Andrew W.

Yelp
I rarely feel the need to post a review. With that said - the food was really bad, and very expensive. To add insult to injury: the salsa station had paper catchup cups - very small and unsuitable for dipping chips in (very stale chips btw). The tables had spools of brown paper towel found in cheap restrooms - very inconvenient and kind of off putting. I found myself feeling inconvenienced and overcharged and extremely unsatisfied with my food.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Sometimes when I take a day trip to San Diego, I either stop here on the way down or on the way back up. The workers were extremely friendly each time. Food: My favorite thing to order is the Spicy Surf and Turf burrito. I recommend to get the diabla sauce of the side!! I loveeeee anything spicy and can handle a pretty good amount of heat but oof, even my mouth was burning a little. Its one of those spicys where your mouth is burning but its so freaking good that you keep eating more and more. It is a little bit pricey ($18.50) but it is shrimp and steak and its pretty big. They also have a salsa bar! Parking: There are a couple spots in the back but it is limited. It is a little tight even if you manage to find parking but there are other lots nearby or on the street if you get lucky.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
First time here. Cali Burrito. Meh. Lacked flavor, was very mushy with the fries in there. Just came out gross. Carne Asada was not done well or seasoned well. Was just not very good at all. Bar type atmosphere and people. Blah! Roberto's is better.
google avatar

Guillermo R.

Yelp
AMAZING! Service was phenomenal! Got my food so quick and to top it off the food was Delicious! Must try Al Pastor tacos ! Will definitely come back ! I can't wait till I'm in the area again to come! Especially now when baseball season around the corner !

Yelp
Came to check out this place in Carlsbad on my way up to LA. Parking a little difficult but there's a small lil lot in the back with 4-5 spots. The food is on the more expensive side for something that is giving more fast food Mexican food to be honest and I went with the pollo asado burrito which was pretty sizable but just shy of $18. Don't forget to check in on Yelp because they'll get you a free taco! These tacos are very small ~3 bites so if you're getting tacos just be aware. Salsa bar was not very impressive they have a very spicy one and a tomatillo one. The burrito was average and tacos were decent.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the vibe of this place. Very dog friendly and plenty of seating. We came to check out the happy hour specials, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The margaritas are delicious and the tacos are packed with a ton of flavor. They did lose one of our orders and we waited around 30 minutes before asking the staff if they could check on our food. The staff did apologize for the mistake and let us know our food would be out shortly. Within 10 minutes of asking, our food was out. The bartenders were kind and on us to ask if we wanted to order any additional drinks and if we needed more water. We have been to the Oceanside location which was larger and had a more open floorplan. I felt that the service at the Carlsbad location was more friendly and that the vibe was more relaxed. I love how dog-friendly they are. There is a dog water bowl outside and the staff keeps dog treats by the register so that your pup can have a treat. A little tip: don't forget to check in on Yelp for a free taco

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Terrible service. I had to park illegally for a pick up order and sent my son in. He was ignored by the staff, he has Down Syndrome, but that is not an excuse to ignore him. I finally went in and there were three counter girls and nobody so much as looked at us. I had to flag one down to get my order and she was annoyed. I won't go back. It was t just his disability, it just general attitude of the counter girls.
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
This is exactly the type of place I was looking for when I was told I had to have tacos while in the San Diego area. Lots of options, tasty guac, drink specials and an awesome patio out back! I splurged on some fancy or premium tacos and everything I had was amazing. Bonus for having a check in offer for a free taco when you check in on Yelp!
google avatar

Hailey P.

Yelp
We came here on our first night of vacay in Carlsbad and it was the perfect casual place for our family of 4 + doggy on the back patio. I recommend the shrimp ceviche (AMAZING), tacos, and the kiddos loved their bean and cheese burrito + fries. I love that they have a fresh salsa bar that includes hot carrots (yum!). The salsas all varied in flavor and were so great. My husband and I also enjoyed our margaritas with a tajin rim. The bar area smelled a little funky (like sour dish towels) but maybe it was just the day we were there. All in all, we will be back and will recommend to friends who visit Carlsbad!
google avatar

Zack G.

Yelp
Just reviewing the pollo asado burrito...AND it's one of the better burritos I've had and I've lived in so cal for 22 years. They slow cook and char the chicken and use cabbage and crema inside. I was starving, but I will definitely be going back again. It's gigantic so could easily be cut in half for 2 people. The girls that rang me up were very friendly and the salsa bar has food options for heat lovers like me.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Came here on a hot day for some apps and made it for the happy hour. I love the interior of this place, it was open and at the time lively because of the football game. This was my first time eating in Oceanside and it seemed like a great neighborhood spot. We ordered the house margs, ceviche with mahi-mahi, and buffalo wings. The margs had great flavor but were definitely on the sweeter side. The buffalo wings were also very good and just the right amount of spice. We were most disappointed with the ceviche. The plate was mostly filled up by the tortilla chips and the ceviche itself was mostly made up of shredded lettuce. There was not a lot of flavor and definitely not enough fish.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
We stopped by yesterday after visiting the beach and had a great experience. It's got a cool vibe with a modern style. The bartender was super friendly and the food was great! We were there during Taco Tuesday as well as happy hour. The 2 street tacos and a beer for $10 is an amazing deal! The half order of nachos was huge and delishious. My only suggestion would be to make the margaritas a big bigger. Didn't seem like a great value on happy hour for $8. We'll definitely go back next time were in town.
google avatar

Joriene M.

Yelp
Food (5/5 stars): Señor Grubby is a good Taco Tuesday ($2 tacos!) spot in Carlsbad! I got Al Pastor, Fish, and Carnitas. My favorite was a close call between the Al Pastor and Fish. The Al Pastor was so flavorful but could've been just a little juicier. The crema was the highlight of the fish taco. I wasn't a huge fan of their carnitas though. Overall, I'd recommend checking out their Taco Tuesday! Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: very reasonable for Taco Tuesday * Wait Time: minimal for a party of 2 on Tuesday * Service: good * Parking: their lot was closed, but there's a free parking lot nearby * Ambiance: I like the beach and surfer vibes here
