It is not often that I get done with work early enough where I can get some sort of take out, but today is one of those rare days. My wife and I have heard good things about the new Senor Villas restaurant, after all it recently won the 2018 awards for best tacos and best new restaurant for the La Crosse County area, so I figured to get some food to go.
First impressions: The parking is terrible. I had to go around the block before I could get near the building and then park two blocks away from the restaurant itself before I could get in. Although this was annoying, the fact that all their spaces were full might indicate that it's a popular place to eat. The host was very polite, and the restaurant was not as crowded in walking room as I imagined. The restaurant itself looked very clean, and the wall colors were also nice and bright, there were not any sort of decorations though. The host told me that I would get my food around 20 minutes, and he was correct on the exact timing.
My son got chicken tenders, my wife got a beef chimichanga, and I got the build your own combo with a chicken chimichanga and chile relleno. My wife was not pleased with their salsa, she felt it tasted like Ortega mild sauce. The white sauce that I would assume is a pepper jack ranch sauce tasted really good, and the chips were good with that sauce. My chimichanga was okay, but it did not have a crunch to it at all; it tasted more like an enchilada to me. Price-wise it was similar to other Mexican restaurants I've eaten at in the La Crosse area.
Overall it seemed pretty average, and wasn't as great as other people had made it sound like to me. I was expecting something a little better for them winning two Awards for the best of La Crosse County 2018 competition; maybe I should have ordered the taco instead since that's one of their Awards.
