"The chef is thoroughly versed in Cantonese cuisine and his credo is to faithfully reproduce traditional cuisine. Specialities include deep-fried whole pigeon, double-boiled premium soup with dried mushrooms and quickly-steamed star grouper. We also recommend the dim sum. Enjoy orthodox Cantonese cuisine while taking in some of the best scenery in Tokyo – there’s nothing quite like a dinner in subdued lighting against a night cityscape." - Michelin Inspector

Dear Team at Sense Restaurant, We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the entire Sense team for creating the most extraordinary birthday experience we could have imagined. The food was truly exceptional, the service impeccable, and every detail — from the personalized menu to the thoughtful birthday message — was handled with such care, elegance, and warmth. You fulfilled every little wish and made us feel deeply cared for and celebrated. We are especially grateful for the incredible effort that went into tailoring the menu to our dietary preferences. It was not an easy task — we don’t eat meat or eggs, and one of us avoids both meat and fish — yet every single request was taken into account and prepared with such dedication and attention. The breathtaking view and the entire celebration will remain in our hearts for a very, very long time. We are incredibly happy and grateful that we were able to celebrate this birthday in such a wonderful and memorable way. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you — we are so very, very grateful. With deep appreciation, Magdalena and Marek

We dined here to celebrate my my husband’s special day. The entire team at Sense made our evening memorable. The atmosphere was very vibrant with a view of Tokyo skylines . The customer service was superlatively good. Vegetarian food was earthy and simple , and yet very delicious. Fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection. The only cons is the $$$ price of the dishes that don’t match the proportions and I hope they include more vegetarian options on the menu . Our server , Yoonsuk Kim , was fantastic and very knowledgeable about each and every dish /alcohol pairing too . Overall, a very positive experience for us and will definitely dine here again .

Outstanding in every way. The Cantonese cuisine is outstanding, but I was mostly impressed by the service attitude and attention to detail of the staff. Of course, the location helped. Go for dinner and see an impressive view of Tokyo at night. You won't regret it.

First meal in Japan and was very satisfied. Landed in Japan 2 hours earlier and went right to dinner. Service was top notch, everyone is friendly and helpful. Cups were always full, focus was dedicated to us. Views of Tokyo are amazing. The tea was amazing! Soups were flavorful and hot. Duck rolls were awesome. King pao was flavorful and looked great. Waygu was delicate and flavorful as well as extremely tender. Had bok Choi sauté in garlic and mango dessert. Would eat here again. Great job!

We travel a lot, and rarely, if ever, have we witnessed such exceptional service. Simon Cheung ensured that my parents were able to celebrate in a truly magical way. The food was exquisite, the service impeccable, and the view stunning—overall, a world-class experience. Thank you.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Some of the best Cantonese you will ever have, with some of the best views of Tokyo alongside lovely and patient staff to help make the most of the meal.

Google
Definitely a spot for the view & atmosphere but the food really is nothing special especially for the price. The waiter was really nice though and took on board my special request. Thank you!

Terrible service and disappointing food. Our experience at the Sense restaurant this Mandarin Oriental location was awful. The service was notably disorganized—dishes arrived out of sequence and without proper serving utensils or flatware. The waitstaff seemed unfamiliar with basic service protocols, requiring repeated coaching on our part. Most disappointingly, the food itself did not meet expectations. For a hotel of this caliber, the combination of subpar cuisine and lackluster service was particularly disheartening. The waiters did not know how to do their jobs properly, and ruined a perfectly good evening. Their poor performance brought shame to the Mandarin Oriental name. I spoke directly with the maitre d', and all he offered was a gift of tea.

Yelp
Sense is perched on the 37th Floor of Tokyo's Mandarin Oriental. After several tries, we finally were able to land a reservation for Sense's dim sum brunch. We were amply rewarded with some of the very best Cantonese food we have ever eaten outside of Hong Kong. Having eaten at the dim sum brunch at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong, I can safely say that the dim sum brunch at Sense is superior on every level. Since all the dim sum is cooked to order makes it so much better. We really enjoyed it and will be back on our next trip.

Yelp
Finally, a place worthy to represent authentic Cantonese cuisine. From fhe dumplings to the rice/noodles dishes (none of that greasy grub one usually finds at run-of-mill Chinese joints) to the dim sum (albeit a very limited array), everything was carefully prepared with intense but not overpowering flavours. Particularly impressed with the rice rolls (soft yet non gooey - a real skill) and the 'Cantonese healthy soup' making full use of flavours of fried seafood (a real traditional way of preparing soup). Accompanying the great food is the view of Tokyo as Sense is perched on the 37th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Note: Wooikd be a fully five-star is weren't for the fact that it was simply too warm (we were actually perspiring throughout lunch!). Hopefully they will turn down heat a little!

Yelp
Beautiful view over metropolitan Tokyo. Food was great however the portion is small. We should call it Japanese portion. I ordered 3 dish and finished them all. A little bit in the salty side Great service, nice people.

Yelp
We had a lovely dinner at Sense. Food was outstanding - flavors and food pairings were exquisite. Yanging Jin was excellent in serving us dinner, with all her recommendations and explanations about Cantonese cuisine. We had some Japanese Red Wine with dinner that was recommended and we enjoyed it very much. We highly recommend dinner at Sense and will visit again in the future.
