Where to Eat Korean Food in Tacoma’s Lakewood K-Town | Eater

"A compact, wood-lined restaurant known for haejangguk and large-format communal dishes like bossam and jokbal; a recommended order is a soondae haejangguk studded with thick slices of noodle-stuffed blood sausage and tender honeycomb tripe, set atop garlicky stewed greens and finished with chile oil for a funky, deeply savory hangover-style soup." - Samantha Bakall

Great authentic Korean food. Prices are good too. Highly recommend. No free water is a shame.

Today was my first time really trying Korean food. As soon as we walked in we told the woman at the counter that it was our first time and she gave us some great suggestions. We ended up getting beef Bulgogi as well as mandoo. The Bulgogi had such sweet and rich flavor. The kimchi was crunchy and spicy. The woman working who I assume it’s the owner was so happy that we came to try out Korean food. I could tell she is so proud of the establishment. We will 100% be back again And will try some things a little bit more out of our comfort zone. The food was just as amazing as the customer service. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Stopped here for lunch. The restaurant was clean, and reasonably busy but there were plenty of places to sit. It looks like they do a fair amount of take out deliveries. I got the spicy rice cakes and kimbap. Both portions were very generous and they were both delicious! Would definitely recommend!

Google rejected my November 2024 edit but they close at 5:30pm on Saturdays. The owner told me. There isn't a sign that I saw but they close at 5:30pm on Saturdays. This makes sense from some other reviews where they didn't want seated customers so close to closing. FYI! THANKSGIVING HOURS 2024 (spoke with owner 11/19/24) (Assume it's closing 5pm Wed 11/27 like last year but not sure) Closed Thu, Fri 11/28-11/29 Resume normal hours Open Sat 11/30, Closed Sun 12/1 as usual (Haven't updated review recently but the veggie pancake is amazing. I almost don't want to tell you that haha. Will grab a pic the next time I'm there.) THANKSGIVING HOURS 2023 (spoke with owner 11/22) Closing 5pm Wed 11/22 Closed Thu, Fri 11/23-11/24 Resume normal hours Open Sat 11/25, Closed Sun as usual I wish Google allowed users to submit holiday hours!!! Love supporting small businesses! 🥰 Especially if they are delicious! May be family owned but will check next time. Food was fresh and tasty. Fast and friendly service. Been seeing these ratings on reviews but will put here in case I'm not prompted: Food 5, Service 5, Atmosphere 5 (1 to 5, 5 is highest). 🥇 I prefer a scale of 10 but oh well haha. 🤣 (12/29 edit: Please consider paying cash because credit card fees are terrible for small businesses! Also consider tipping. The economy is terrible. I do not know these people but once I move back this way next year I will visit all the time.) Detailed review: Visiting my family from Texas over the holidays and came here with my parents. Used to hang out in Bel Air and Edgewood as a teen. For the locals, this is on the north side of Pulaski Highway in the Domino's 🍕 shopping center, behind Jiffy Lube 🚗 (near IHOP). Everyone else use Google Maps haha. Lots of parking in the parking lot. Restrooms for customers only. Inside nicely decorated with Hangeul (Korean language) wallpaper and some art. Plants. Tables have napkins, wooden chopsticks 🥢, spoons, forks, and knives. See pictures. Walk to the counter to order. 3 people working when we visited. Menu on the wall with current prices 💰 (see picture). 12/27/22 We ordered kimchi pancake, bibimbap with tofu in the stone bowl, japchae, and small beef bulgogi. See pictures. Kimchi pancake is a savory pancake, not this 🥞🤣. Crispy and served with a soy dipping sauce. We ate the entire thing! Delicious! 😋 Served as 4 pieces but can easily can cut into 8 with the table knife. Definitely will try the seafood one next time. Bibimbap with tofu comes with a spicy gochujang sauce (optional, my dad didn't use it). The radish is a little spicy as an FYI. Mix the veggies and rice together. Highly recommend getting the stone bowl. It is hot (careful! 🔥) and lets the veggies and rice sizzle while you eat. If you want to be authentic, eat bibimbap with a spoon! 🥄 🇰🇷 Japchae is a soy and sesame stir fried sweet potato noodle 🍠 with veggies. We added tofu but this is typically served with beef. Came with rice and a small banchan (side dish) of spicy cucumber🥒, kimchi, and radish. Served with small side dish set. Tasty. I like a little more sesame oil flavor but this was very good. Lastly ordered a small beef 🐄 bulgogi. Beef marinated in a sweet soy sauce (similar but not exactly teriyaki) and stir fried with onion. Served with rice and the small side dish set. Really good flavor and a good portion. All beverages 🥤appeared to be bottled and no fountain drinks. Small ice cream 🍨 freezer with a couple choices. Food was fresh and cooked well. Inside restaurant was clean. I did not visit the restroom to assess. Hope you enjoy the pictures and can't wait to go back! 📸😎

Google
Great mom & pop Korean food spot in the area. The food is consistently good and the portions can't be beat. Highly recommend the beef bulgogi (Large). The flavor is so amazing, I always wish I had more. The service is quick and consistent. I highly recommend if you are in the area or passing through, and looking for authentic Korean food. Portions are similar for dine in or to go orders.

Google
Cozy place to dine in, love the atmosphere, and the food is awesome! We were greeted with warm smiles and welcome when we first enetered. The owners made sure to ask us how our food was and continue to check on usthroughtout our dining experience. We will definitely be coming back.

Google
What a great little find! Authentic Korean food in the heart of Edgewood! Seoul is exactly the kind of restaurant that we have been looking for - excellent food, wonderful service, friendly staff and reasonably priced. We tried the Japchae and the Bibimbap and both were excellent. This is our new favorite Asian restaurant!

Yelp
I will give them another try and update my review when I am able to get back out there... I was super excited to try this restaurant after hearing good things and there just aren't many Korean food places around me. I was told this would be authentic Korean food and I couldn't wait, as I'm Korean and miss my grandma's traditional food! We arrived around 4:45pm and the hours listed say 6pm. We went to go sit down so we could look through the menu before ordering and were told it's take out only. This was a major bummer and some of the things we wanted to order would have been difficult to eat in the car. It was also 80 degrees out and I live about 35-40 minutes from here. We still ordered cause we wanted to try it and were hungry. The food came out fast and we were also given 2 small containers of cucumber kimchi! I ordered the tofu bibimbap and I'm sorry to say it had zero flavor. If you are looking to just make it spicy, they do give you a container of spicy sauce to put on it. My friend ordered the bulgogi with rice and Ttokbokki. The Ttokbokki were delicious and were the perfect level of spicy! The bulgogi was also very good, but next time we might try the spicy bulgogi! Overall, I would give it a try.

Yelp
Friendly service, great food...I've tried at least 1/2 of their menu items and haved loved each one

Yelp
I had the kimbap and it was spectacular. The prices are a bit high but I get it- it's quality food.

Yelp
I never knew this place existed and today it was a pleasure to find this hidden gem. The food was fresh, service quick (despite the lunch push) and overall a great experience. The restaurant is small with at best 15 tables. This is authentic Korean food and as much as you will be glad you stopped in the family there is gracious to welcome you.

Yelp
Located in a strip mall, on the end, in the rear of a parking lot away from 40 Lots of neighboring places so parking might be an issue midday..but no problem at 4:30 Inside was bright and seemed clean with plenty of 4 top tables. Ladies restroom was clean, well lit. No pleasantries or small talk with the ?owner/man who took my order and brought my food 4th Korean restaurant and trying their versions of YoonGaeJong I think I'm biased to the first one I tried, so not sure it's a very fair rating system I have But, of the last 3, this place was closest to the first and thus my second favorite. As usual, I called ahead to ensure they were open and served the beef soup. And when I arrived he recognized my voice from having just called 90minutes from closing, there were no other patrons inside. I ordered the soup and by the time I sat down and checked into Yelp,he was bringing it out...piping hot in a silver/metal bowl. Not sure if this meant it was nuked, or spooned from a huge vat, but it came out IMMEDIATELY. Either way. It was really really good. STILL not as spicey as the first place, but spicier than the last two. Not sweet as the last place. And with lots and lots and lots of egg! I didn't mind it, but it was LOADED w egg! I thought it might be some noodle, but each piece resembled, and tasted like egg Again, I didn't mind..it was good, and meant more protein. Zero scallion/green onion..made it taste a bit different than my first place, which pretty much had mostly scallions as its vegetable....giving it its own unique flavor. Not as many vegetables as the last place and no bean sprouts The beef was relatively tender, but with a little chew. The serving size left me full, and with enough for lunch tomorrow It came with a small side of kimchi, radish, cucumbers, and about 1.5c of white rice No fountain drinks or free water...there is a cooler of sodas and tea Didn't mandate a tip, but a sign DID remind you that 1. $10min for credit card purchase and 2. Credit cards hurt small businesses...encouraging you to pay in cash I recall trying this place maybe 4yrs ago when a friend came to visit and wanted Korean. Don't recall what we had, but must've been good or I wouldn'tv returned Will go back, at some point. Either try something different, or ask for the YGJ again, and make it a bit spicier. Recommend you try

Yelp
Upon walking in I was greeted by the one of the owners. She was great to talk to and helped us choose our meal. We saw the gal-bi and she whipped it up fresh, and brought it to our table. It was delicious and I'm looking forward to coming back to try other items.

Yelp
Probably the best Korean food in the entire Baltimore, harford, and surrounding area. Authentic. Real. No bullcrap

Yelp
This spot is the only Korean spot I could find close enough to just drop by. Granted, it is more Americanized flavors on their menu but it was still edible and good. The family members are kind and helpful when talking about the flavors and portion sizes. Their banchan was nice and solid for everything being paired with it. Their bibimbap was good and lots of veggies were put in there. Their tteokbukki was nicely flavored and not too spicy, with plenty of sauce for rice and etc. And their Japchae was swimming in soup, which was rare for me to see, but delicious though a bit saltier than usual. Just to note, they did recommend going to Ellicott City for the bigger and traditional options and flavors.

Yelp
Don't sleep on this place! Read the reviews, both good and bad; had to see for myself. Yes, very unassuming from the exterior, and nothing fancy inside......BUT, when you take a bite of the food, massive flavor! I got the pork bulgogi (spicy), and it was love at first bite! I like a decent amount of spice, and this had enough. Portion size was sufficient, and really liked the pickled veggies to cut through the richness. Owner(s) stopped by to check in on me - they were super friendly. Definitely coming back with some friends to try the other dishes.

Yelp
My husband was stationed in Korea. This place reminds him of what he ate there!! "The first bite was nostalgia" :) Small family business, very nice! Service was awesome and very fast. Will be a regular customer!! Thanks again

Yelp
Food is as great! They are not afraid to use delicious spices that make the food tasty! People are friendly and appreciative. Service was fast which was excellent since this was a lunch stop on our way home to NY. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place while trying to find a florist shop that's no longer in the area. I'm glad I did because I enjoyed my mandoo fried. The lady was nice and my order was ready in a timely manner. I will visit again and try some other items
google avatar

Yelp
Fairly authentic food. Closes early so need to get dinner before 6. A little salty. Price is reasonable and staff nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good bul gogi for a small restaurant in a strip mall. Received three small, tasty pickled vegetable dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this lil spot! It's always a welcoming atmosphere. I believe it's the owner that works there. She made me feel like I had a Korean grandma when I dined in her restaurant with my three children. We order Gal-bi (short rivs, my favorite, btw), with extra kemchi, and everything came out hot and served in this cute dishes!
google avatar

Yelp
If you have ever been to Korea or tasted real authentic Korean cuisine then this mom and pop restaurant is for you. You will definitely get that hometown Korean service and the atmosphere will remind you of their culture. It is the best Korean food that I have tasted since I was stationed there 20 years ago. Brought back pleasant memories. Food is amazing. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
BEST KOREAN FOOD IN HARFORD COUNTY ! This is my second time ordering & the food was just as delicious as the first time. I ordered a large beef bulgohgi mild, my husband order a small spicy beef bulgohgi, my daughter ordered beef ramen mild, and my youngest daughter order a small beef bulgohgi mild. We've had the mild beef bulgohgi last time and it was still so so good. A lot of flavor and juice. The meet was very tender. This was the first time we tried spicy Beef Bulgogi, IT WAS SO FLAVORFUL & spicy, I was very impressed that it had so much flavor along with spice. Each meal comes with kimchi & pickled radish The Mild Beef Ramen was hand down the best my family has ever tasted. There was so much flavor in the broth & again the meat was so tender. The portions were huge but so perfect. My family really loves this restaurant. We have all decided that this will be our go to spot for soup when we are sick because this food really warms the body and feeds the soul. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Anytime you are near Edgewood MD and need some good food; this is the place to go. Staff is very respectful and polite. Dining area and the restaurant are very clean and offer an inviting place to eat. The #5 is very good! Always get the large, can always save some for later! Great restaurant!

Yelp
Good place, very friendly staff. Food quality is good. Solid place in the area for Korean.

Yelp
Delicious Ramen! Service was friendly and food came out fast. Would definitely recommend and will definitely come back.

Yelp
Amazing, but you better eat fast if it's close to closing time! I've had the bulgogi bowl several times and it never disappoints.

Yelp
I went to high school in Seoul South Korea so this place feels like "home". Large Portions. Friendly staff. Quick Service.
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
For this area, it's the best Korean food nearby. They had big portions and familiar flavors. The staff were nice and helpful in letting us know how they differ from other spots. And though there weren't many people there, a lot of people came in and out for takeout. It seemed like a very social atmosphere and I can see why people go there.
google avatar

Tamara T.

Yelp
Small family restaurant, great beef bulgogi and galbi. have ordered multiple times, friendly service.

Yelp
Finally got here as we've been meaning to try them based on the reviews. Located in a Strip mall, It was quiet around 5 Friday afternoon. One party at a table & a to go order waiting for pickup. Ordered a few items to try (to go). Bibimbap (Steak) which was very good. Spicy Beef Ramen was excellent & would recommend eating this at the restaurant (noodles get overcooked for take out), Japchae with thin noodles was also excellent & Mandoo (Fried Dumplings) instead of spring rolls based on recommendation were perfect as an appetizer. The fried rice with Shrimp is also highly recommended! We've also tried the Veggie Korean Pancake and although a little greasy it was tasty and filled with vegetables. Also ordered stir fried Squid which was just right spicy mixed with thin noodles and veggies. They do close early evening (7 or 8) during the week and at 6 on Saturday. (Closed Sunday) Friendly service and the owners were very helpful and explained the different entrees. Only regret is not getting here sooner!

Yelp
Cheap prices, large portions, and it was the most legit Korean restaurant nearby? Count me in. I stopped by one day after getting my first vaccine dose and picked up takeout for the family. We got tteokbokki, yookgaejang, kimchi, rice, stir-fried squid, and chicken bulgogi. I was craving authentic Korean food, but my family discovered they didn't like it as much as I did. The yookgaejang was mine and the portion was enough to last me two meals. There was a lot of shredded beef and glass noodles in it, and it was the perfect combo of sour and spicy. The tteokbokki was also pretty solid; I'm not as a big as a fan of tteokbokki as other Korean foods, but I could tell it was pretty authentic. My parents enjoyed the kimchi a lot and ate all of it. The chicken bulgogi was very salty, while my sister couldn't handle the spice levels of her squid. We had gone in on a rainy afternoon and the place was a ghost town. I think I'll go back and try the dolseot bibimbap next time.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Foods always good! I would recommend this place. We lived in South Korea for two years so if we crave legit Korean food we go here.
google avatar

Becca H.

Yelp
Holy bibimbap, Batman. Seriously, their food is delicious. I have heard so many good things about them so I decided to finally give them a try the other day. I called in an order and it was ready within 20 minutes. The fried egg was cooked to absolute perfection. Runny yolk but cooked egg white. The beef was heavenly. So tender and juicy, with an interesting flavor that kept me going back for more. I can't believe I've waited to long to try it here! I can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Lilli M.

Yelp
This is one of the few Korean places in the Harford county area. It's a no frills place tucked in the back of a small strip mall next to a mechanic shop. There was a window vent set at 72 degrees and several overhead fans were spinning overhead but it was still slightly warm inside, albeit it was at least 90 degrees outside. The food appears to be cooked to order so if you bring a large group, you might be waiting bc there was only one employee during our visit. She was friendly and worked diligently. We were satisfied with our small bulgogi (good flavor) and hot stone bimbimbap. I thought the seafood pancake was ok, mostly shrimp and yellow onions (where'd the scallions go?). As Catonsville and Ellicott City where we usually get our Korean vittles is far away, we'll probably end up frequenting here.

Major L.

Yelp
NEVER a disappointment! I just wish they stayed open later! Love this place. Authentic Korean cuisine.

Yelp
Once I found this place, I literally had to stop myself from wanting to go every day lol. I have been looking for a good Thai place but once I got a part-time job off Joppa Road, I was forced to see what restaurants are local reasonably priced and generally good tasting food. I came across this place this place has a really good menu. I did wish it was a few more things on there but they cover the classics. I also like that they have sizes in small and large just in case you want a little extra more to take home I've been to this place three or four times so far already and one of the things that keeps me coming back is there a homemade kimchi! It's really good. I also like that I can buy pickled radishes on the side there because that's one of my favorite things to munch on while I'm eating spicy food I do wish they had Korean fried chicken there. I don't remember seeing it on the menu, but the menu I was looking at online was older Definitely wanted to try different things on the menu because everything looks so good. The service is really good. They always have someone there answering the phones and taking orders so you don't have to stand in line too long.

Rob J.

Yelp
I popped in after work one day. The food was amazing and the workers were extremely welcoming.

Yelp
I was feeling adventurous and I wanted to break away from the usual suspects. These guys did not disappoint. I mean where can you go wrong with a fried egg? Lol I will definitely be back. Friendly and quick service!

Yelp
Had the kimchijigae for a late lunch while driving from DC to Philly. Very spicy in a good way. Pork was tender and flavorful. Great for a quick and filling lunch.
google avatar

Stefan W.

Yelp
Great meal! Went here for lunch on a Saturday around 2pm. There were 2 other groups and ample seating to chose from. We had the sweet potato noodles with beef and the spicy squid. Both were delicious. Total meal with 3 drinks was $25 (tax included). The service was pleasant and fast (3-4 min wait for our meals. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Limited on menu, but real authentic Korean dishes! The family is always welcoming. Hopefully, they could add fried chicken to the menu and I will be there every week!
google avatar

Yelp
Soooo good. We always get the beef bulgogi. I love the ramen, & the kimbap is very tasty as well. They have glass noodles which are also really good, my son devours them. Definitely a family favorite.
google avatar

Sherine And David G.

Yelp
Really solid Korean. We ordered vegerable Korean pancake, fried dumplings, spring rolls, spicy chicken ramen and mild beef ramen. Everything was super fresh, and delicious. Came with white rice (excellent) and kimchi. Huge portions of ramen. The owners are really friendly, and accommodated the ramen to our dietary needs, which is always nice. Suzy came from the kitchen to hang out and make sure we loved everything, which was a nice touch. We'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Sigena S.

Yelp
Amazing Korean food. I love everything ramen and this is definitely the spot to go. Fried dumplings and spicy beef ramen are my favorites. Food comes out quick and it's super tasty. Only thing it has a small sitting area- it gets packed during lunch hours. I try to go around 1 and that's when the crowd dies down.
google avatar

Bari K.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant based on yelp recommendations and it did not disappoint. Enjoyed the bimbimbap, the vegetables were fresh and sauce was perfect. The pickled vegetables that came with the dish were delicious.
google avatar

Patricia C.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall in Edgewood MD. Restaurant is clean and staff helpful in navigating the level of heat in your meal. The spring rolls are sooooo freaking good(don't order too many) you will not be able to finish your meal. Beef Bulgogi is to die for-tender beef seasoned to perfection with white rice and kimchi-a weird type of fermented veggies but honestly the crispness along with the spicy is sooo darn good!!!! Ramen noodles another favorite-folks this is the real deal (no prepackaged noodles with season packets here). Remember, if you are not a hot and spicy chic as I am, ask for a little fire!!!
google avatar

Larone G.

Yelp
Not good service was slow noddles taste old.. really needs to understand the language of the land.

Greg C.

Yelp
Excellent food and quality. Fast and fresh. Love this place! Wish it was a better location, but couldn't be happier with the food.

John Jacob Jingle H.

Yelp
I have been to this restaurant a couple times and am still working on trying everything on the menu. So far the taste is ok, could be better. Im not sure why but it doesn't compare to the Korean restaurants I'm used to in Hawaii and from what I remember from my time in Korea. The bulgogi, which is a signature Korean beef dish is not grilled here. It is more of a stir fry as opposed to the traditional grilled bulgogi. Not bad, but could be better. The banchan, or side dishes lack variety, but it is the middle of mainland USA, it will do.
