My niece, bless her heart, just a year out of college and new to NYC, said her friends had been here and recommended it. Perhaps that's who likes this place. Well located, that's for sure. The friendly staff looked like they'd just been hired with little restaurant experience, which they made up for with energy and politeness, while being excoriated and sent scuttling in a histrionic manner by a loudmouthed manageress in a red dress and straw hat, who'd make a reasonably good B or C-grade Disney villainess.
We had a pizza, which was at best ok. We'd told the waiter it was to be shared by a party of 5, yet they still segregated the toppings: a handful of mushrooms here, a pile of something there. We literally had to toss our own pizza, on top of an already soggy-in-the-middle crust. Oh, and they cut the pizza into 4 slices, rather than 5, or even 8, which we also had to do ourselves.
I had the Brussel sprout salad, which was presented as if someone had just turned over a can, which retained its shape, garnished with one, count'em, cherry tomato, halved, and four withered, wilting and slightly browned endive leaves, topped with shaved, bland Parmesan cheese. The salad had too little shredded Brussel sprouts, mostly red radicchio or cabbage, and... flavorless avocado. I detected no lemon juice, which it desperately needed. It ended up reminding me of heavy, bad coleslaw, under-salted, and wanting acid (lemon juice), and and something to brighten and deepen it, like fresh herbs or onion. Possibly a good recipe, poorly executed. THAT for $19. I should have sent it back. It's not that it was crowded at 3pm on Fathers Day, which should have been a warning. But, I was a guest, and didn't want a scene.
I tasted the pasta and lasagna ordered by others: better, still underwhelming.
Perhaps they're still getting their act together at this point, although this late in the pandemic, they've probably been open for months and should know better. Yet, looking at other reviews, I think I got a pretty representative experience. This place is for tourists and kids and those who don't know better and apparently haven't even checked these yelp reviews, which are typically mediocre to poor.
