I remember the years when Denver didn't have one single Indian Resturant. Those days are long gone. We have sampled a number of them through the last 40 years. One or two have been good enough to return for a second or third time. But, hold on. Today, we found one that will keep us coming back as often as we can manage it.
Serene Cuisine of India, located at 2070 S. University Blvd, Denver, within the University of Denver area, is our new found favorite. They have been in this location for two years, but were closed twice for the Covid-19 pandemic for several months. Now, with the green light to go, they are ready, willing, and able to accommodate your craving for GOOD, no EXCELLENT Indian food. They have eat in dining and carry out. They are open seven days a week, 11am-10pm.
Our "lunch bunch" of four goes all over the city trying different types of food. This was it for today. Because I could make a reservation, I did. It probably wasn't necessary today since DU is out for the summer. Nonetheless, the owner, Amar, was ready for us and treated us royally.
After carefully looking over the menu, we saw that they have a lunch special section that suited us. There were four choices of protein: Chicken, Lamb, Fish or Shrimp, and Paneer. Next, choose a sauce: Vindaloo, Saag, Curry, or Korma. For a side, the choices were: Green salad, Paneer Fritter, Vegetable Fritter, or Soup of the day. With each meal, a bowl of rice and plain naan is included, along with a soft beverage.
Two of us chose the lamb saag, one chose lamb vindaloo, and the other chicken vindaloo. With plenty of caution as to the spice level of the vindaloo, even toned down to 6 from 10, it was plenty spicy. The lamb saag was especially tasty. The lamb chunks was soft, tender and flavorful. With each of the dishes, the protein portion was plentiful. We also ordered an extra side of spinach and paneer-cheese. Everything we had was freshly prepared and so tasty-more than most where we have eaten. (We are all four very experienced Indian Food eaters.)
The Resturant was pleasantly cool on this 93 degree day. The decor was simple, but representative of India with a mural painted on the wall. The surrounding were immaculately clean, as were the restrooms. The four of us love to chat with the Resturant owners where we dine. Amar told us some personal history as well as that of the Resturant. We will be dining here again real soon and as often as we can. The only downside of the location is there is only street parking. It took just one drive around the block to swing back in front to find a spot. Warning: must be able to parallel park!
