Serrano's Mexican Food Restaurants

Our trip down memory lane. First are here over 32 years ago. Always special just getting the bean dip and salsa with it some of the best complimentary chips. Did not disappoint. Service was good. Food tasted good. Always get here before the dinner rush. They did almost forget our water, but to be fair, someone else was supposed to bring it and our waiter was a bit mortified.

Music was low in the background. Dbacks playing on all televisions. Food was the best I have had in a long time.

So we came here for dinner but unfortunately food was not good at all. It was pretty soggy. Same meat ( beef or whatever ) was used for tacos and burritos and other Mexican food. Enchiladas had no flavor. Burrito tasted really bad. Overall food was terrible. Will not come back here anymore that's for sure.

Early bird specials were generous and delicious Best service Food was excellent We wish we had Serranos nearer to our home.

Don’t Waste Your Money at This Restaurant Let’s start with the pros: the salsa was very fresh and super tasty, and the bean dip was also good. Now for the cons: the restaurant was noticeably dirty, and the food was extremely disappointing. The Spanish rice was soggy, watery, and completely lacked flavor. The beans were smothered in cheese, making them overly greasy. The lettuce and tomatoes on my tostada looked and tasted expired—brown, wilted lettuce and mushy tomatoes. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place. Save your money and eat somewhere else.

Always a good experience. We've been coming here for years. They just started a Family Day on Thursday. $3.50 for kids meals, and they give out stickers & balloons! My kids loved it! We'll be back! I especially enjoyed the Tomatillo Pork smothered in Green sauce. Salsa is always amazing and the bean dip is perfect! Love this place.

Great ambiance inside and outside. Everyone was friendly. The bean dip was delicious, which they serve with chips and salsa complimentary. The food was average..nothing special. The prices were a little high.

We were on a road trip to the Grand Canyon, and we stopped here to eat lunch. We didn’t expect much, we were just hungry, but let me tell you when I say this was some of the BEST Mexican food we’ve ever had, and we’re from Texas! My husband and I plus our two kids all loved their meals! They were all very friendly and had fast service! I don’t normally write reviews but I just had to leave a 5 Star Review for them because they were so amazing!!

This was probably the worst Mexican meal I've ever had. And, I paid over $40 for this nastiness. I will say the waitress was great. We were seated immediately and served with nachos and ranch and bean dip. The chicken in the taco salad tasted like the chicken in a can (like tuna). My son said he could've made a better quesadilla at home with cheese slices. He also said the beans tasted like canned beans. After discussing our experience with others, my son and I were both told the establishment has went downhill in recent years. I'll never waste my money there again. Taco Bell was a better option. The restaurant was clean and decorated nicely.

It has been years since I ate at a Serrano's and boy what have I missed! The food is delicious, no-frills goodness, that tastes just like good Mexican food should. The starter chips, salsa and bean dip hit the spot. Then my Red Chile Machaca Burro Enchilada Style was tasty and very filling. The lunch special included a large burro, stuffed with meat, topped with a great sauce and cheese and surrounded by rice and beans. The service was fast and the ambiance the standard Mexican restaurant look. Muy fantastico!

We normally go to Serranos in chandler but was meeting a friend who was in town and this was closer for him. We started off with the chips and salsa and bean dip. This salsa seemed to be a little different than the one in chandler. It's also had more of a kick to it and seemed maybe more like fire roasted. I had the combo plate with 2 tacos, rice and French fries (the fries were for husband) I had the ground beef and machaca tacos. The ground beef was definitely different than the one in chandler. I like chandler better. My husband just got the one ground beef taco then of course the French fries. Lol. The food and service was good but I definitely like the one in chandler better.

I was recommended to eat at this restaurant, to be honest with you we took a guest from out of town here for our first time. We were not satisfied with the service or the food, one guest did not even eat more then two bites of his food, all of our food came out cold and everything was so chewy. And it was so over priced for what we got. I'm not sure if it was a bad night for the cook or if that's what kind of food they normally serve. But we were very embarrassed that we took our guest to eat here. Due to how unsatisfying it was.

I really like this place. The food is very authentic and very fresh. My nephews love the chicken tenders , fries and the rice. My husband got the two combo and my brother the fajitas and his wife got the pollo fun dip. The staff is also awesome!!!

Always greeted right away by friendly team members. Service is laid back and friendly. Drinks are delicious. Can't go wrong with chips and salsa!

We arrived on a Saturday night, there was plenty of open tables. But even though it was slow, there wasn't a greeter to seat us. After a few minutes, I was able to spy the bar, it was empty. So we seated ourselves. The bartender, took our drink order promptly. Ordered the chips, with the salsa and bean dip. To start. The food was really good, I had the pollo fundido, which was extremely tasty. Guess, my low rating is due to service. Which seems under staffed. It may be unfair of a rating. Cause the food was good!! But the service from walking in lacked customer attention. I would eat hear again, maybe with a little bit more understanding of the service.

I can't say enough good things about Serrano's. We picked up the catering street tacos which included 32oz of mixed beef and chicken with spicy bean dip, huge bag of chips and salsa, 12 delicious tortillas, lettuce, cheese, tomato. Added two beef quesadillas all for $80!!! This was all for my daughters first birthday and it was a HUGE hit. Can't beat the quality and price. I called a few days before about ordering and a very helpful/welcoming woman talked me though it and suggested we call a few hours ahead of time. Finally made the order with a nice gentleman and then when we picked it up we were also met with great service.

Very disappointing visit. We used to be regulars here. Love their bean dip. I received an email for a 1 day special for the Serrano's Special that I always get for 9.99. Turns out it was for tomorrow not today, they wouldn't budge and let me have the deal today while I was right there in the dining room. Had to ask for more chips, bean dip and tea. When Arturo was providing the service it was great. There was only a few customers in the restaurant this evening. The kitchen closes at 8 pm now so get here early or just go somewhere else.

Fresh! Chips and salsa were good. Guacamole was perfect. Service was great. Excellent food tonight....excellent! Bar service to the dinner table was a little slower but not a problem. Will definitely go back. 31MAR2023

Love this place. Everyone is so nice & the food is great. My family & I come in here for their lunch specials all the time. I love the Machaca Burro w/ green sauce, there kids menu items are good too (especially the chicken nachos.) We love that their cups are huge & they are really quick on drink as well as chip/salsa refills. One of the few Mexican Restaurants that serve Mt. Dew. Their chips & salsa are awesome (my wife is a wuss when it comes to anything spicy & she loves it). They also give you bean dip which our kids love. We also love their queso fundido. David is usually our server & he is super nice & really quick (thanks so much David.) We initially started coming here because we loved their sign out front that says "God Bless And Protect Our Police" which we appreciate but we continue to come back for the awesome food & great service. Keep it up guys, we are fans for life

I really hate to give this rating, as we have been HUGE Serrano's fans since the early 2000's and we're loving their location at dobson and Guadalupe, but..... We came for dinner to treat family that will be leaving out of the country soon and unfortunately, had a very sub par food experience. Service was GREAT. No complaints there. Chips and salsa were good, bean dip could have been better(not as creamy as I remember). However almost none of us finished even half our plates. It just wasn't good. My cheese enchilada was barely warm and the cheese wasn't melted inside. The red sauce was very sub par, and machaca beef in my taco didn't have much flavor on my dish. My husband and his brother ordered the fundido Machaca beef and unfortunately the fundido just wasn't what we expected. (For amazing Pollo con queso/fundido, try Ajo Al's). My husbands machaca beef was seasoned more than mine was though. Just overall not our favorite, with so many other Mexican restaurants around. I think the main problem here is they are understaffed because of covid hour restrictions etc. we hope to give them another shot in the future when staffing is better!

We haven't been to Serrano's in a while - like a few years. we stopped in for lunch today with our two year old twins. Everything was great! Service was super fast, and our waitress was very attentive. The food was delicious. our picky toddlers inhaled their kids combo plate and my husband and I felt welcomed and comfortable (its not uncommon for servers/managers to make us feel like we're a huge hassle when we take our twins out to eat). We will definitely be coming back to Serrano's!

Disgusting. Filthy food prep, wrong food inside of other containers which ruins my entire dish (onions I didn't order/ask for). Cheese all on the bottom of my huge 12"x12" box leaving cheese and grease all over my seat in my vehicle. What, I have to babysit your food prep boxes now? Unbelievable, disrespectful and distasteful. WHO HAS TO CLEAN YOUR MESS UP? WHO HAS TO PAY TO HAVE STAINS REMOVED? I told my wife we had issues and I was done. Decided to give it one last try. Yep, just as expected. You "restaurant" ethics and staff are disgusting to let this go out your door. The food is basically bar-grade microwave food after driving less than 5 minutes back to my house to eat with my family. We have to immediately microwave the food because it's cold. We live in the closest set of houses to this place. How is our food already cold????? Oh, wait... I know. It sits and sits. We were on time for pickup, too. After a few incidents, my family is done. We would rather go to a bar, pay less $ and get better service. What the **** is wrong with Serranos? Y'all went to sh*t real quick. Never again will we waste another $90 on your disgusting establishment. NEVER!!

Updating my review, I have not been back yet, however I appreciate that the owner has been in contact with me and is addressing the issues as well as updating their website to include the vegan menu!

We have been Going to Serrano's for many decades. The food is delicious . Bean Dip. Yes.....but you gotta get the Queso Fundido to go with it! Everybody enjoyed their Margaritas (I don't drink) Cheese Enchiladas for the Boss, and an outstanding Red Chile for me. Saving the best for last: Stephanie, our hostess with the mostest, and clearly a Professional. Part Waitress, Part Psychologist. She read us like a book and the story was great. There is a reason why there has been a Serrano's Restaurant in The East Valley since the 70's........just sayin,

Service was mediocre. The server knew nothing about the drink menu. Their servers need to study the menu more. Drinks and food were also mediocre. There are barely any restaurants in Mesa so we thought we would try this one and we will definitely not be going back.

We have always had great food here. Until last night 5/14/21. I had selected to have the Nachos what a waste. It had so much wrong with it I could hardly eat it. First major problem is that they put it in the broiler till the chips were burnt, and the cheese was melted it one uneatable glob. Then the pico de gallo had so many onions chunks of onions it made me sick all night. So I will defiantly never order this again. Positive note the service was above average, keep up the good work. Recommended changes, do not put un broiler would taste so much better with shredded cheese not melted. Use a hot sauce that has few or no onions. Frankly I do not think I will ever go back, the quality of food has good down in the last year, it has been over a year since I have eaten at a Serrano's

Hands down for the best margaritas around and definitely gets to the point...their chips are amazing and the chili rellano is perfect!!

Favorite place was closed so we tried Serranos for Happy Hour. First impression. Very very cold in here. They either aren't running the heat or they have the air conditioner. Not sure but it's uncomfortably cold. Appetizer, stacked quesadilla is actually just a dried up flour tortilla with some whole beans, some kind of carnitas (no flavor) and Mexican cheese. Gobs of lettuce to fill up the plate and some very limey guacamole filled with tomatoes, cilantro and tomatoes to stretch out the avocado. Not amazed at all. Not hot, not delicious, just meh. I say revamp your menu, actually taste the food before it goes out. Gruff but efficient service.

We used Serrano's for my sisters birthday party. It was fantastic, Michelle went over and above to accommodate our party of 21. The server was great and our food was delivered pretty much at the same time, and was delicious. We never felt pressured to leave and it was a Saturday night. Highly recommend.

This is my go to Mexican restaurant close to home. Good food and service. I have been coming here for years and have never seen disappointed. Stop in, you will come back for more. They are closed Sunday and Monday.

Don't understand why the poor reviews. Food and service simply awesome. It takes a little longer then a few other Mexican restaurants, but good food is worth the wait. Prices are not too bad either for the quantity and quality.

First time coming to this location. The best part was the server named Heidi. She is fantastic and the greatest service I've ever had anywhere. She remembered every little thing, brought extra salsa/bean dip and chips, and brought the box and check in less than a minute of us asking. Her timing was perfect in that she came at the right times and it was the perfect time that she let us eat in peace. She cared to ask if the drink we were iffy about ordering was okay and took it off because it was not. The only thing that could have been better was maybe having normal hard seltzer flavors! But other than that the visit was perfect. It's much farther from our house than other locations but we will always come to this one and ask for Heidi!

The food is good. The service once you get sat is good. The lunch time hostess is terrible, she never says hi, takes forever to get around to seating you, and hardly acknowledges you when she's about to seat you. I feel like I'm at the post office, not one of my favorite Mexican restaurants.

My husband has enjoyed Serrano's Mexican food for several years & in more recent years discovered Serrano's restaurants at different locations. On 12/30/22 he & his good friend went to the Serrano's on McKellip & Gilbert in Mesa, AZ around 2:30pm. The restaurant only had about 5 tables of people. He & his friend ordered the shrimp & chicken fajitas & waited for around 40-50 minutes for their food (shouldn't have taken so long since not crowded there at all). When the food arrived the normally sizzling hot skillet was cold & the shrimp, chicken & veggies were very dry & all looked as though they were picked off other people's leftover plates & thrown on to the cold skillet. It was obvious that the food was NOT cooked on the skillet, as there was no oil or anything on it & was most likely just scraped off of a plate that had been sitting in a microwave for a long time! The corn tortillas that came with the order were very cold. Both my husband & his friend considered this to be the absolute WORST meal they have ever had at a restaurant. He wanted me to rate this meal as a big ZERO stars but I put 1 star just so people wouldn't think I forgot to indicate what the star rating was. My husband, his good friend and anyone else who knows him will never go back to this terrible Serrano's restaurant. Absolutely disgusting & shameful.

I was very impressed when my parents, grandmother and I went to this restaurant on Monday! They are taking great measures to keep their customers and staff safe. They installed sneezes guards between booths, are only seating every other booth, masks required to enter, disposable containers, disposable menus, staff wearing & then changing gloves when serving, sterilization of tables and chairs between every customer, and a sanitation station as well. Very impressed and we will be back. Both my grandmother and mom are immune compromised so we appreciate the effort! We have been basically at home for so long it's great to get out, feel safe, and enjoy a nice meal.

We went to this establishment a few weeks ago. They have gone way downhill. The chips and bean dip were good. My fajitas were nasty.. was all tomato and the meat was very well done. The tortillas were chewy as hell. My wife had the child rellenos. All egg batter or whatever they coat it with. My son had a burger and said it was " meh".. The server was good but she had way to much perfume on. I think next time well go to Chilis

Had an early dinner here yesterday. The interior decor was a nice change from many Mexican restaurants, with its white walls and wooden beam/pillar accents. Lots of windows, which was also a nice change. We were seated in a booth, which was too tight for us, but we managed. Our service was great, and I took advantage of the Happy Hour prices and had a $5 House Margarita! I'm a Margarita snob, but enjoyed my drink. The chips were light and crispy, and served with fresh salsa and bean dip. Both were very good! Our entrees were good, I had the tamales and my husband enjoyed his beef taco and cheese enchilada. Rice and beans were standard fare, but taco shell stood out as it was crispy and chewy. Place filled up on a Tuesday night, and was a bit noisy, but that's the price you pay for dining in a popular restaurant. We will go back!

This weeks taco Tuesday quest brings us to serranos where they have $1.00 crispy tacos and $2.50 street tacos. I ordered 2 crispy chicken and one machaca we were told they would be small cantina size. They were BIG! Full size tacos and were really it was really good. But could only eat 1and a half brought the rest home. This was a special for Tuesday of this week other times their taco Tuesday is $2.50 will it be like that next week hum........? We shall see at another time.

We went to Serrano's Restaurant last week. It was fantastic food and service. The bean dip is very tasty and the chips are served warm. We ordered the chimmie ( ground beef) with beans & rice. Very delicious. Our server was Danny, who was awesome & gave us prompt service. We will go again.

My husband and I haven't eaten here in years, and it's right down the street from us. We were actually going to go there last weekend, but after checking their menu, they no longer appear to have the Chili Colorado or Sonoran Enchiladas on there and those were our favorites. It's hard to find good Sonoran Enchiladas anywhere. We understand that with COVID, some of the restaurants have omitted certain items from the menu.

Good Amercan style tacos. i.e. lettuce and cheddar. Great shells.Flavorful chicken Excellent provider of good chips and salsa which is one of my important needs and likes! Seriously hot on the hotter salsa, one of the first I have come across in Phoenix. A tasty bean dip with the chips also. Eager to refill your needs too. Prices are not too steep. Nice style and atmosphere and good service.

We love the bean dip! The food is good and our server was very pleasant. We are in town to vacation after being locked down in Cali and it is great to go places where we are welcome. We recommend this place with a large menu and great service. enjoy! Ask for more chips!

If I were rating the bean dip they'd get 4 stars! It's delicious with the chips they give you. Bean dip and salsa are complimentary. We got the fajitas and they were your basic fajitas. Kids love the bean dip too; and ate and enjoyed their chicken tenders. Other family members get the machaca plate or machaca tacos (I think I enjoyed that more). This place is worth going back to! Bean dip!!!!!

Man I am so unhappy about this Serrano's I had a bad experience with this place about a year ago. So I was hungry and decided to give them another chance. The hostess sat me in a booth and I just sat there. I think the waitress that was supposed to help me was just overwhelmed with all the tables she has at one point she told someone she was doing 5 tables at the same time. So I have no complaints about her. What I couldn't believe is the lack of service the hostess could have provided like bring a glass of water or chips.. or have a busperson do it. Instead she just stood behind the hostess cash register and did absolutely nothing to help the waitress. After 10 minutes I got up and left. Telling her what a let down and major disappointment I had in what use yo be one of my favorites. Hopefully this Serrano' s is the only one with bad service. .

Go here often and have grown to really enjoy the green chili beef (I like to get either the burro Enchilada style or a quesadilla). I also like their chips, can tell they are homemade, but sometimes you can tell you've gotten an older batch (still good can just tell not as fresh). Only reason for not 5 stars as sometimes service has been lacking. We've had plenty of times where it has been amazing service. But unfortunately plenty of times when it's just not up to par or poor planning with staffing, etc. Overall a great pick though.

always have a great time here, best time is lunch time, the service is really good , Angela is awesome, the bean dip is always on point, margarita flights are really good, my burrito just had no flavor , and they didn't have my beer i like, not a big deal...but we did enjoy the appetizers!

If a restaurant isn't crowded on a Friday night, there's a reason. I know this rule, but for some reason I chose to ignore it. So the good...salsa and bean dip they bring with the chips. The bad... - The menus were falling apart...not a tough thing to fix if someone in leadership is paying attention. - Chips were greasy...way more than they should have been - We asked for sliced avocado...they were out. How does a Mexican restaurant run out of avocado? - Fish tacos were absolutely unremarkable - The "slaw" on the fish tacos was several orders of magnitude less remarkable than the fish tacos themselves - I'm still trying to identify the tortilla the fish tacos were served in. - Tamales...less than meh Overall I'd say they just quit trying.

We ordered two enchilada dinners-cheese with green sauce. When we got home we realized they had given us red sauce by mistake. We called them and the manager nicely told us to keep the ones we had plus we could pick up the correct dinners in 15 minutes. When my husband got there she also gave him a pint each of salsa, bean dip and hot sauce plus huge bag of chips. Such a generous and thoughtful gesture for a simple mistake. Just one of the reasons we love this place!

The chips with salsa and bean dip are amazing and worth the trip but the entrees were adequate and salty, the prices is pricey but you get a lot of food.

Food is really good (carne Asada tacos), and they give you chips with bean dip to snack on before your meal. I've been there twice (both weeknights) and the service has never been very fast. This hasn't been a big deal to me, but just don't expect to get in and out too quick.

My department held a business lunch at this location. The place wasn't super busy, but it took FOREVER to get our food...by the time it came, it was apparent it had sat under the heater for a long time. The cheese was rubbery and the beans had popped open due to extended heat. One of the guys didn't get his food with the rest of us either. There were seven of us and it just wasn't a good experience. The food took way to long and one member had to leave due to an appointment that he should have had plenty of time to make. We were not even offered

Ate at their Gilbert & McKellips location last night. It was the worst Mexican I have ever had. I ordered Shrimp Fajitas. They brought me beef fajitas. The frozen margarita was weak with bland taste. We were with a group who spent a lot of money. My food was the last to come out and it was not what I ordered. There were no apologies. We lived in CA for 35 years and know what good Mexican should be. Seranos is is a chain which has bad management which shows through waiters who cannot get it right. The worst experience ever and the food I got was awful. I could not eat it!

Ambiance is cute and relaxing. The tables seating six people and more are nice because the middle of the table has a bar where servers put the chips and dip making them easily accessible for everyone. If you have a larger party they will give you more than one serving of chips and they will refill them as well. This is the only good part of my review. Starting with the bathrooms: they were not cleanly in the slightest. Most stalls were out of toilet paper and when my son flushed the toilet, the toilet handle came completely out of the toilet tank. When my husband went to the bathroom, the toilets were clogged with feces. His bathroom trip was thirty minutes after mine, and he reported that they were just as dirty. This tells me that none of the hostesses had checked or bothered to clean the bathrooms in the last thirty minutes. I've spent several years in food service and everywhere I've worked, policy was to check bathrooms every fifteen minutes during dinner rush. The service was subpar as well. We ordered our food in a timely manner, just a few minutes after our drinks were brought to our table. At the time, we were surrounded by several empty tables. By the time we finally received our food, all the tables around us had been seated, served and were eating their food. In that time, we received a quiet and almost non apologetic excuse that something had happened in the kitchen with our food. From the time we had ordered our food, we had waited over an hour for it. My husband's order of shrimp fajitas was smaller than a normal portion (half of what you'd get at chilis) and cost almost 16$. My two a la cart flautas came with a garnish of lettuce, Guac and sour cream which had hair in it. My sisters beans and rice were completely cold. And while I realize this is a Mexican restaurant, my two year olds chicken and fries were terrible. If you have a picky toddler, just don't bother ordering the chicken tenders. Again, this was a little more reasonable considering it was chicken ordered at a Mexican restaurant off a children's menu. I would have been a little more forgiving of such a busy Saturday night except that we had no manager come to explain what had happen or even apologize. We were there before the rush had even happened. We will not be going back.

Ok! I just love this place the staff is friendly and the food is pretty good, one of my favorites is the shredded beef tacos! They have good chips, bean dip and salsa and bring you plenty before your meal comes. We've been eating at this place for years and have eaten at their other locations as well in Queen Creek, Mesa and in Tempe and they have very consistent food between the four.

Really good! This place has been around a long time and for one reason, the food is good. The hot sauce is the bomb. I almost always get the chicken tacos, the chicken is moist with plenty of veggies cooked into it and the lettuce and Tomatoes are nice and fresh. If you like enchilada sauce I highly recommend it too pretty much on anything. Just a heads up, you'll fill yourself up in chips if you aren't careful, but that does mean leftovers the next day (:

Very good. Fast service and cheap prices. Bean dip is the best thing here!!! Great bar selection and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Well the chips and salsa and bean dip were great. Chips were thin with perfect amount of salt and we're hot and fresh. Salsa was weak on the heat scale but had a good flavor. Bean dip was great. Beer was cold and frosty. Then things went south. Only reason we came in was we were craving chimichangs. I ordered the red chili. What I received looked like a burrito with a slight tan. It was not flaky or crunchy at all. We had sat in the bar area so I pointed out my disappointment to the bar tender. He proceeded to tell me it was because I ordered the red chili and it makes them soggy. WRONG ANSWER!! I make chimichangs at home and they have never been soggy. I've ordered the same thing elsewhere and never had a soggy chimi. It was flat out under cooked. Then there was the awkward conversation about what I'd like to do. NO! Don't ask if I want it remade just remake it. Then grab the manager and let them know. Welp none of that happened. So I ate my beans and rice which were fine. In the end I paid $20 for beer, chips and salsa, and beans and rice. I was looking forward to posting a 5 star review.... NOT TODAY!
