Matthew Kenney New Culver City Spot is a Plant-Based Pasta Bar - Eater LA

"Matthew Kenney’s holds a solid plant-based footprint on the Westside. His Venice restaurants include the upscale Plant Food + Wine, more casual Double Zero pizza, and easy-going New Deli. The well-known chef has now moved slightly east into downtown Culver City this month, opening a plant-only pasta bar on November 12 called Sestina." - Mona Holmes

"Matthew Kenney, the internationally-known plant-based chef with restaurant locations across the globe, is opening a vegan pasta restaurant in Culver CIty soon. Sestina will open at 9725 Culver Boulevard in early November, taking over the former Wildcraft Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown there. This place is worth 5 Stars across the board! The food was absolutely amazing. My husband and I have been vegan for 2 years now and sometimes it’s hard to find good pizza. This one was the best! We also ordered pasta, garlic bread and the apple butter cake with strawberry gelato was phenomenal. The waiter was very friendly and the atmosphere sitting outdoors was beautiful.

Google
The meatballs do not taste like meatballs😅 the spaghetti pasta and sauce were good and the ravioli was tasty, sauce was very rich and very small raviolis. The portions were unbelievably small and absolutely extremely overpriced. We will never order from here again 😖 an absolute waste of money

Chef Angel had us experience some of the most tasty menu offerings. I went there famished but left there looking forward to coming back for more! What a great place to meet a friend or date night. The view we had of the open kitchen was calm and beautifully orchestrated. Every dish was delicious! I appreciate the care and thoughtfulness that's put into every dish. From start, to finish it's hard to beat this vegan fare.

Went here with my long-friend and his partner, who I had just met (for the first time!) that morning. Love her! And she loves Sestina. They've been here together before, and she many more times before that, and she told me she is going to take her family here when they visit her, which might be very soon. Great place to catch up. My cousin joined us there, too. She's so wonderful--kind and funny and thoughtful. I am so lucky. The pasta is top notch, and I loved the pizza. The staff were funny. It all made for a good mood, a good trip, and a lasting memory. My cousin's partner showed up, too, later. He was full from an earlier lunch, but the food was so good he had to have some too!

Google
This place proves that vegan food can be amazing. We went on a team dinner and everyone was surprised that the meatballs actually tasted like the real deal. The pastas here are great and I would recommend the ricotta ravioli! Great outdoor seating with space heaters too!

Google
I had a rough time rating because the concept is amazing - delicious creamy vegan pasta ! Which it definitely is. The portions are a little on the smaller size but the prices are very fare. They have food wine/mock tail/cocktail options. But the service was very slow, including forgetting our drinks until we were done with our food. Still, worth checking out if you’re vegan !

Google
They offer delicious vegan food that you wouldn't get anywhere else! They also had some fun cocktail options that tasted really good. I would love to go back and try more from their menu. The restaurant itself was really nice and aesthetically decorated. The staff was super friendly and helpful too!

Google
The brunch is a bit disappointing but giving vegan restaurant Sestina 5 stars for the excellent service, cute outdoor patio atmosphere, and delicious Meyer Limoncello tart! I’ll try the Pasta next time which is more their speciality. The popular Frittata oddly wasn’t available anymore even tho it’s still offered on the menu. The Primavera scramble tasted fresh and good textures but a bit too salty, and didn’t come with toast, any sides or even a garnish. I ordered a side of bread for $7 more! 💰 2nd Visit Happy Hour (5-7pm) The pasta is all freshly made. Highly recommend the Pea Ravioli! TIP: Order pasta with a side of Garlic Bread (you’ll thank me later)! 🎃 Fall Menu Update: Don’t miss the delectable, seasonal squash ravioli! 🅿️ Free one hour parking nearby- see last photo.

Yelp
Absolutely obsessed with this restaurant. Perfect location in downtown Culver City, with indoor and outdoor seating options! The food is incredible and you can't go wrong with anything from the menu! My personal favorites are the Caesar salad, calamari, tagliatelle pasta and the arancini's! Staff is always so warm and welcoming providing amazing service. Vegan spot you don't want to miss!

Yelp
We came here for a second time and we said "Omg let's go to Sestina for some bomb pasta" because that is what it was the first time around. First time, the pasta was amazing. Last night, I was very underwhelmed that I ended up giving my ravioli to my boyfriend- who always eats what I don't like. But he also said he was underwhelmed. He kept saying "I remember it being better." Not sure if they've changed their ingredients or recipes but the only thing I was happy with is the wine. I feel terrible because my host was really kind and I hate to be the one to send food back. I even ordered the apple cake after since I was still hungry and that was super dry. I had one bite and just gave up on that. This place isn't necessarily cheap either. Which I don't mind, but with those prices, I expected the prices to match the quality.

Yelp
I really liked this place so much that I'd definitely go again. They have a lot of gluten-free options which is critical for me. It's a really cute, casual yet elegant spot especially for a date-night. Didn't even have reservations and they found a way to squeeze us in one night and the service was great. I'm a vegan, and i'm not biased when I say that you can't tell anything is vegan and you won't care that it is if that sort of thing matters to you. The food is just SO good. I got the gluten-free versions of the "Elbows & Pink Vodka Sauce" as well as the "Truffle Tagliatelle". We also got the "Arancini" which is gluten-free and "Ricotta Ravioli". I LOVED the vodka sauce pasta and the arancini. The GF version of the tagliatelle was good, but very rich to the point where I couldn't each that much of it without feeling gross full. All in all I'd come back to try a bunch more and really want to try their "panna cotta" next! So happy to have this place as a great plant-based date night option!

Yelp
Love the restaurants in downtown culver city. Sestina is one of my favorites. If you are craving a quick pasta fix then come here! The pastas are simple but delicious. Loved the rigatoni arrabiata. Good vibes and good pasta! Rigatoni arrabiata: $18 Tagliatelle truffle: $18
google avatar

Jenny E.

Yelp
I tried the elbow vodka pasta and the truffle tagliatelle. Both pastas were bland imo and overall very unimpressive for being $18. The service, however, was even worse than the food. While we were seated immediately, it took forever to get waters to our table, to order our food, and to get the check. The food came out reasonably fast, but we were left waiting quite a long time afterwards -- to the point where another couple sat next to us, ordered wine and pasta, received their check, and left before we had even been given our check. Pros: The ambience is cute, and we did not have to wait long for a table on a weeknight.

Yelp
Parking: plenty of parking garages around downtown Culver City or neighborhood parking if you don't mind walking Food: Overall I'd recommend going to Pasta Sisters instead if you're not vegan, but the garlic bread and drinks were good. Experience: TL;DR mediocre food and worse service My friends and I had been wanting to come here for months and finally landed on a date. We got there around 6:50 for our 7pm reservation on a Wednesday night and were seated immediately. Our waiter was not friendly at all and asked if we wanted drinks and we started to tell him our order but then he walked away?? Then later he came back, and we ordered our drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Our drinks and appetizers came pretty fast, but then we were sitting around waiting for our pasta for over an hour and our waiter never checked on us, nor said sorry for the wait. I could understand if it was a busy night, but there weren't that many full tables. We finally asked our waiter if he could check on our food and he asked if we had ordered food? So we re-put in our order and the food came like 10mins after and 2 of the pasta dishes were under-cooked. So we asked to talk to the manager and he was nice about it and comped the dishes and offered free dessert, but honestly we just wanted to leave so we just asked for the check.

Yelp
Yep definitely a 5 for me. Came for my anniversary and everything was so good. The service was great and really happy we came right when they opened because everything was fresh and it was empty and we got to enjoy our 12 year anniversary. I had my first panna cotta here and oooooh did not think i was going to stan it over flan haha but here i am now preferred it. The pizza was good too and the pesto oof was really really good. We also got some garlic bread because how can you not at an italian joint. The drinks were good and tasty and the decor was very nice thank you! :)

Yelp
After 3 years of walking past on our way to other downtown Culver City establishments, we finally dined on a Monday evening. I love the al fresco seating, it's great for people watching! Our apps were delicious, the calamari (fried king oysters) were great. I had previously tried similar ones at Butcher's Daughter and these were just as delicious, especially with a hint of lemon juice. We also enjoyed the arancini (first time trying!). For my entree we picked the fusilli creamy pesto and ricotta ravioli with spinach and rossa sauce. The pasta was fresh and just the perfect serving size, so we weren't overly stuffed after eating. Overall the meal was a solid 4/5, nothing to particularly write home about but it was very tasty! The staff was very attentive and friendly and I will definitely be back when I need to get my pasta fill! Pro tip: all items are $2 off during happy hour from 4-6 PM!

Yelp
This place was surprisingly good. I haven't had the best experiences with Matthew Kenney restaurants because they are usually too expensive for the minimal flavor and portion size, but the pasta was well-made and delicious. We got the Italian cookie mocktail (which tastes like almond extract and sparkling lemon water), the veggie calamari, the Big Italian salad, the Radiatori with Black sheep lamb, the Truffle Tagliatelle, and the panna cotta. The veggie calamari was delicious (just wish there was more of it). The Big Italian salad was necessary to cut the heaviness of the carbs but it was underdressed. The pasta had a delicious flavor but mine was cold. My partner's pasta was still hot, so I think they made mine first and waited to serve them together. The panna cotta had an incredible texture! Attentive server and pretty ambiance.

Yelp
Came here for DineLA with a friend and had a really pleasant time. We arrived on a Tuesday around 6:30 pm without a reservation and got seated immediately. Street parking or paid garage available. All the food is vegan (neither of us is vegan) and really tasty. The Caesar salad was highly recommended and I couldn't even tell it was vegan. The arrancini came in 3 and was good as well. We split the truffle tagliatelle as well as the vodka sauce elbows pasta. Both were tasty, but I particularly liked the vodka sauce. The portions were a bit on the smaller side but since we had appetizers, it was filling. We ended the night with the panna cotta (which came with candied blueberries) and the pistachio gelato (which had a little bit of shells mixed in but was very rich in flavor). The employees were all super friendly and checked in on us frequently. Single occupant restrooms were available in the back behind the bar area. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Credit cards accepted.

Yelp
I don't often eat vegan but it was my friend's birthday and he is a vegan so we came here and it was pretty good! We ordered the seasonal corn ravioli, which I enjoyed! The pasta was tender with a nice bite and the corn filling was sweet with a nice sauce. I also really enjoyed the tagliatelle white truffle pasta, which was deliciously creamy! Pleasantly surprised. And I didn't feel overly full afterwards. The pizza was good as well, with the crust being the highlight, both chewy and flavorful. Overall my vegan friend really enjoyed the meal, and I wouldn't mind coming back either.

Yelp
Holy smokes... run, do not walk, to get food at this delicious, classy, and affordable restaurant. Perfect for dates with lovers and friends! I hadn't realize I hadn't really been enjoying food as much until I had food as good as this! 100% vegan. This is the place to take your meat eating friends to convert them. I can't wait to come back here again. Service was great as well as the ambiance! Clearly I highly recommend.

Yelp
Sestina is the closest I'll get to having delicious Italian food once more in my plant-based journey. Simply WOW. Most Italian restaurants barely have anything for vegans aside from an eggless pasta with marinara sauce and veggies - which is delicious, but something I can make at home for much cheaper. Now walks in Sestina and the game is forever changed. We started with the Veggie Calamari and out of all the faux calamari I've had at restaurants, this one was hands down the best. Great texture and top notch seasoning made this the perfect app. I'm not sure what it's made out of but I am a fan. Our next two dishes were their Tagliatelle truffle pasta and the Papparadelle Mushroom pasta. OMG, the first reminded me of my days eating at Covel at UCLA - fresh pasta noodles tossed in a heavenly creamy truffle sauce. The later's mushroom goodness and wide pasta noodles were also *chef's kiss* We did not stop there - finally, we devoured the Tie Dye Pasta, which was perfect for the three of us. Delicious flavors all came together for this one and is a must especially if you're looking for a cheese-less pizza. Vegan or not, the food is simply delicious and your taste buds won't discriminate. Thank you Sestina for the wonderful experience. I definitely will be returning again someday.

Yelp
Sestina came up as an option for dineLA because who doesn't love pasta! Plus, one of the friends dining with was veg. I was a little confused by the dineLA menu because it seemed like $45 for the three course offering would be a few more dollars than if you were to order off of the regular menu...and it turns out, that was true. That was already off-putting, but I was still excited to try my glittery cocktail, apps, pizza, and some pastas! The food was overall just very average. The garlic bread and pasta looked and tasted like something I could have easily made at home - still tasty, but just not worth the price tag of eating out. The pizza (tie dye) was probably the most special thing we ordered, and I will say I enjoyed the thin crust and red sauce. My drink, the Earhart, was pretty but not that interesting. Service wasn't particularly friendly and a bit slow. I don't think I will be back, but I still say it's worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a veg option!

Yelp
Great vegan Italian joint in Culver City! I was meeting my vegetarian friend there to celebrate her birthday. I had made the reservation for 6:30PM on a Sunday night. When I got there, they sat me at a table outside. It wasn't full yet, but slowly got packed. My waitress greeted me and brought some waters. I asked for a mojito mocktail, but unforutnately they ran out! So I got the spicy margarita instead, which was nice. My friend came shortly after and ordered some sparkling water. The waitress made a few recommendations and we ended up sharing the Caesar salad and garlic bread. I got the Tagliatelle Truffle and she got the Spaghetti Puttanesca. We got the Caesar salad which was good but drenched in dressing! The garlic bread was nice, crispy and garlicy. We dipped it in our pasta - my Tagliatelle was rich and creamy. I took a bit of my friend's Spaghetti Puttanesca, it had a nice kick to it. We were stuffed but the waitress asked what we wanted for dessert. Since it was my friend's birthday, it was on the house! Even though we were stuffed, we decided to get the strawberry gelato. It was good but had some sort of syrup - we couldn't figure out what it was. Overall a great spot for delicious vegan Italian food. Nice atmosphere, great service!

Yelp
I came here on new year's eve with my boyfriend. They were one of the few restaurants that didn't have a fixed course/fixed price menu. We made a reservation online because we had previously tried to come here without a reservation and it was fully booked for the evening. It was pretty empty when we arrived and stayed that way. Our reservation was early in the evening, so that could have played a role. I got the elbows in vodka sauce....delicious and paired it with this exquisite wine (it was a red blend...can't recall the name). I didn't get dessert but the choices did sound appealing. It's a pretty good Italian spot in Downtown Culver. Can it compete with Cafe Ugo, which has been my go to Italian spot...only time will tell.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Love the $2 off during happy hour and plant based Italian concept. Hard to find many plant based cheeses. I ordered beet pappardelle. Good flavor, would love more vegetables though, brocollini maybe added.
google avatar

Shreya V.

Yelp
4 stars for happy hour, 3 otherwise :( We tried their spritz, arancini, caesar and stuffed peppers off the happy hour menu. The spritz was really good and we enjoyed the arancini and caesar too, the caesar dressing is so good even though it's vegan. We also tried the cheese + tomato pizza, radiatori and truffle pasta - they were all okay but the biggest let down was the service. The people itself were very nice but they were obviously understaffed and took a very long time to get their attention.
google avatar

Yelp
Downtown Culver City is a whole vibe and not my tribe #sorrynotsorry haha my homie lives nearby so we went to check out Sestina for a birthday celebration. I checked the popular dishes so this is what we ended up with: 1. Caesar salad (5/5) - We split a single dish so the picture is after we portioned it in half. FYI they are wedges of lettuce (I didn't read that and we were caught off guard cutting and slicing although I guess we coulda eaten them like hot dogs?). Anyways, the dressing is banging and the ratio to lettuce was spot on. Def recommend! 2. Olives (5/5) - They are olives haha perfectly creamy and pitted (encase you didn't kno how Mediterranean olives work; don't bite the pit) 3. Truffle Tagliatelle (2/5) - Pasta was good and sauce was underwhelming. Very light truffle taste and maybe watery? I know too strong truffle is gross and this just felt like something I could do at home, but better. 4. Radiatori Smokey Sugo (3/5) - I am a fan of radiatori cuz ima #carbivore so the texture seemed perfect for the ragout. My Omni friend said it tasted legit. It tasted like high end bolognese or like a meat sauce on cool pasta. I'm not a big meat person and as a vegan not into fake meats so prolly not the best judge of this dish. 5. Panna cotta (5/5) - Ok, fire!!! They had cherries on top that seemed to be cooked down in their own rich juices. The panna cotta itself had the perfect texture and flavor so the cherries gave it a fun tart balance that wasn't overly sweet. Can't speak to parking cuz we walked over, and it's dtcc so y'all already know wassup. For the price and quality, I would say issa maybe if ima return. Maybe for a special group event but prolly not on a regular. No big complaints, just low ROI.

Yelp
Food: bland, overpriced...I have NO idea how they got such good reviews. Service: the manager was a total jerk. Service was terrible: Ambiance: lacking. Cold, basic, uninviting. Advice to owners: fire your manager working 6/24. Get a better bar program.

Yelp
This was my 1st time visiting Sestina in person as I previously ordered the pepperoni pizza on Postmates (delicious). We each got something different and shared everything. When we first got there we were told we could on be seated for an hour but they didn't force us to leave after the hour was yup. We got the fusilli pesto pasta, the truffle pasta, the Smokey sugo and the pepperoni and Pepe pizza as well as the garlic bread and caeser salad. Literally everything was delicious. My boyfriend and friends aren't vegan but they loved it as well. It was really cold outside but they had heated lamps above the tables which helped a little but all the tables inside were already taken and it was a small space so we opted to sit outside. This has easily become my new favorite vegan restaurant!
google avatar

Yelp
From the annals of "I can't believe it's vegan," Sestina has a 100% plant-based Italian pasta and pizza menu that surprised and delighted me. My vegan friend told me about this place, which is great because walking by it and looking at the menu, I would not have known it was all plant-based. This is at first, a handmade pasta restaurant, and secondly also a woodfired pizza spot. I imagine they're using the same ovens from Wildcraft (RIP) which used to have amazing chewy Neapolitan-style crust. For two people, 2 pastas and 1 pizza is the way to go, since the pasta portions are on the small side and the pizza is big and shareable. I loved the four cheese pizza and creamy, truffle tagliatelle, and soy-based panna cotta. They also had super refreshing drinks that were perfect for enjoying our al fresco dinner on their huge outdoor patio (so nice that I never got chilly because they had lots of heaters!). I can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
As a non vegan I partake not in the meat, nor the milk, nor the ovum of any creature with a face. The food was delicious but I tried to cast a veil which did not work. Will come back to try again
google avatar

Yelp
Been a fan of Matthew Kenney's restaurants so I was excited to try this one in LA! Appetizer: Arancini - 3/5. Not bad, portion a bit small. Pasta: Truffle Tagliatelle -3.5/5. Good but was expecting a bit more. English Pea Ravioli -4/5. Spaghetti vongole - 5/5. The sauce was so good on this and the taste was kind of unique. Dessert: Meyer Limoncello Tart - 3/5. A bit too tart for my taste. Pistachio gelato - 5/5. So delicious and creamy!!!
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
This review is for their pizza only. We tried cheese tomato pizza, and it was quite awful. The cheese tasted like your regular vegan cheese from the grocery store and it was sticking to teeth. Just awful all around. I've tried Matthew Kenney's restaurants before many times, and enjoyed every one of them. Their other pizza restaurant in Venice has absolutely delicious cheese (made out of macadamia, cashew and other nuts), and Sestina pizza isn't anywhere close to it. Haven't tried other dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're vegan this is a great pasta place. Even as non vegans, my friend and I were impressed by how delicious the pizza and pasta was!! The tie die pizza was quite tomato sauce heavy but the flavor was exquisite! The tagliatelle truffle pasta we got was also delicious and very light!! Highly recommend if you're in the Culver City area!

Yelp
Did Dine LA here because the menu worked with my no onion, no garlic, no egg (restaurant is all vegan!) restrictions. Food: 4/5 - the truffle pasta was pretty tasty and was really creamy! Couldn't tell it was vegan. The caprese salad was good too - good take on vegan mozzarella. We didn't like the gelato at all though - we tried pistachio and chocolate, but didn't enjoy either. Was happy to find a neat virgin margarita on their menu & definitely enjoyed that. The big bummer was how long service took. We went on a Friday evening and our server took a long time to even come to us and get us started with water, take our order, bring our dessert, and our check.
google avatar

Clare S.

Yelp
Came here for the first time as my sister gave me a gift card for my birthday. I heard the patio was dog friendly so I brought my small dogs-- in a stroller. The patio was lovely but seemed tight, so they kindly accommodated our request to be seated in the area closer to the street even though it wasn't open. The host and server were so incredibly welcoming and kind! Offered treats and water to the dogs, made sure the heaters were turned on, etc. The food was yummy -- the arancini and garlic bread to start and the vodka pasta for my main were perfect choices. I am not a vegan but enjoyed my meal. Definitely go here if you have pups! Truly the sweetest staff.
google avatar

Elle A.

Yelp
I LOVE Sestina. They are fully vegan and you would have no idea. They also have gluten-free pasta! The vodka sauce pasta is delicious & rich. My only complaint is that there isn't more of it! The portions are on the smaller side. I'm envious of the people that get to enjoy the garlic bread because it looks so good. Hey Sestina, can we get a gluten-free garlic bread option? Please?
google avatar

Mahsa S.

Yelp
This entirely vegan Italian restaurant has a large variety of different pastas, all very reasonably priced. Anytime I've been here I've been seated immediately without a wait. Personally I wasn't a fan of the pizzas as much but the elbows with vodka sauce and the rigatoni arrabbiata are delicious! The arancini is also a good appetizer, although the portion is fairly small. The nearby parking structures are free for the first hour and only $1/hour after that

Yelp
First time having Brunch, and I love it! I had doubts before coming because I thought they would only have pizza or pasta, but I was surprised by their brunch menu. We ordered the Just egg + pepperoni pizza sandwich, which was so yummy! It comes with a cold pasta salad and tomato sauce. We also tried their just egg veggie + provolone scramble, and it was another hit! The only one I feel I wouldn't order again would be the garlic bread, it was super delicious, but I think it's too much oil for my taste. The service is outstanding, and the environment is super friendly; we came with our baby and had a pleasant time. Also the price for our brunch was very accessible. I'm definitely coming back to try more from their menu. Thank you Paul for the friendly service!

Yelp
All-Vegan pasta, pizza, and anti-pasta place worth coming to for the food, ambiance, and service. Most of my non-vegan friends have loved it here, but the portion sizes are small and we typically order 2-3 appetizers and 3 entrees per person. I liked most of what we ordered, but thought the Il Pepe Pizza was less good. Worth getting: Arancini - grilled cheese balls. Hard to tell its not "real cheese". Served with a great tomato sauce Caesar Salad - delicious and well presented. My friend said it tasted like real caesar, but slightly saltier Tagliatelle - decadent truffle pasta. I'm a big mushroom guy so I loved this Butternut Squash Ravioli - tasted just like real cheese/parmesean. Butternut squash flavor is subtle Skip: Il Pepe (pizza) - smelled and tasted like they doused this in store bought sweet and sour sauce or something. The crust, cheese, and vegetables were good though.

Yelp
Really loved this place! I like that there is plenty of outdoor seating and an all vegan menu. We shared the Caesar salad, arancini, ravioli, and the elbows and vodka sauce. All were excellent! My favorites were the arancini and the ravioli. Portions were just right, flavors were on point, and it didn't leave me feeling wanting more. I will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
As someone who can't have dairy, I'm always on the lookout for vegan and dairy free food options, particular Italian options and this place did not disappoint! We got the garlic bread, truffle tagliatelle, elbows and pink vodka sauce, and the apple cake a la mode. Was also a big fan of their spritz! Always love a good spritz. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I miss Matthew Kenny's restaurant that was in a shop in Bev Hills. I can't remember the name of it, but I think it had Greek food mainly. Anyway, heard about this place and decided to eat here for brunch since the wait was too long at this other place nearby. Great & friendly service. I got the Big Salad. Which it is really like 2 entree salads. I could only eat half. I also got the Arancini which I enjoyed too. A lot of outside seating, and I think indoor too. They have 2 types of outdoor seating as well.

Yelp
What an amazing spot! I've been here a couple times now so I can say that the experience has been consistently great. I don't have the opportunity to eat a lot of Italian since most of it has meat and/or dairy, so to find a plant-based Italian restaurant is already a miracle in and of itself. The icing on the cake is the food is actually delicious, the service was wonderful, and the ambiance was fun. We took a family-style approach to ordering, which ended up being a great idea. We ordered the olives, arancini, and Caesar salad to start -- all good (especially the arancini). For entrees, we got the il Pepe pizza (spicy, so good), rigatoni arrabiata, ravioli alfredo, and the kale pesto. Everything was delicious! We didn't order desserts, but did have some wine and cocktails. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience here. Parking was fairly easy, and we sat outside for the fresh air. There was even live music playing at the adjacent restaurant that we were able to enjoy as well! Highly recommend -- I will be back!

Yelp
This review is from a NON-vegan! I was truly impressed by the dishes served here. Everything is vegan and I'm not, but I like trying vegan foods because a lot of the time they can be very inventive. 1. Caprese - SO impressed, a must order. The best cold vegan mozzarella I've ever had - the texture is really nice and real cheese lovers like myself will not be disappointed. 2. Stuffed peppers - delightful! 3. Arancini - great portion, delicious 4. Fettucine vongole - Tasted like ramen cup noodles! Not worth the price as the flavor was not unique at all 5. Sweet corn ravioli - my FAV of the night! A must order! Sweet with a lovely corn flavor, a must order 6. Tye dye pizza - another must order, the crust was perfectly thin and crunchy/chewy in all the right places. 7. Elbows + vodka - really yummy! 8. Pappardelle with mushroom ragout - yummy, tasted like thanksgiving stuffing lol 9. Panna cotta - not my fav, but I also don't like panna cotta in general. 10. Strawberry/Pistachio gelato - VERY good! Service was really awesome, place has a sexy ambiance. I would be back!

Yelp
I am surprised that I haven't done a review of this place, but this is my go-to pasta place if I am ever in the mood for vegan pasta. I always get the elbows + vodka sauce meal and please do not forget the garlic bread. The service here is incredible and they are always so kind to me + recommend amazing dishes if I want to try something new. This time I tried the Tagliatelle Truffle, which was pretty good! I was in the mood for white sauce. The location is right in downtown culver so you may want to park in one of the garages close by or in the neighborhood on the street. They also have vegan gelato and I won't lie, it is pretty incredible. This is a spot I enjoy going to so I hope you all can enjoy it too.

Yelp
A bit overhyped...food was delicious but no truly outstanding dishes. We went during happy hour ($2 off the entire menu from 4-6) and tried quite a few dishes: - Italian salad (average salad - iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, fennel, carrots with dressing) - meatball appetizer (a highlight if there was one) - tie dye pizza (delicious but I wish cheese was added as it was a bit dry - we ordered extra parm on the side which cost $1) - calamari (interesting as it was made with mushrooms and coconut but it did feel a bit too fried) - beet and mushroom pappardelle (well balanced but not necessarily a repeat) - Pannacota and affogato for dessert (we LOVED these two - the ice cream for the affogato was delicious) The true highlight of our experience was George behind the bar. He was amazing and honestly would be the reason we go back. George was conscientious and thoughtful. He was kind enough to clarify that the parm on the side would cost extra, he made sure to check in regularly even when the restaurant picked up (not the same could be said for all the staff but George gives some serious TLC). Plus - he makes some mean drinks and gives great recommendations! Go for the yummy vegan food and stay for George! ;)

Yelp
First time enjoying a meal here! Easy to make a reservation and Thursday nights the restaurant next door has live music and can definitely be enjoyed from the patio! We ordered the fried mushrooms for the appetizer. Tasty but not sure it was my favorite. For meals we got the capers pasta and the arrabiata pasta. Both were super delicious and were a good size for one person! I got the gluten free pasta which was cooked very well. Both dish came out fresh and hot. Also we were celebrating my friends birthday so they gave her a scoop of gelato and a candle. Super sweet!! Will return to try a couple other dishes!

Yelp
I was waiting to try this place since forever but somehow didn't reach here. Was super excited to finally make it but was very very disappointed with the pasta in vodka sauce. I would really recommend anyone who considers ordering it not to. The Spagetti with meatballs was good. And the garlic bread was delicious.

Yelp
Sestina is one of my favorite Matthew Kenny restaurants...I went with friends for their DineLA specials this week and it did not disappoint. Their service staff are always so friendly and attentive, and the restaurant ambiance is classy and romantic. Highly recommend this place for a date night or special cozy meal. Definitely get the arancini and truffle tagliatelle!

Yelp
Sestina seems to be following the trend of other Matthew Kenney restaurants and going downhill. We reserved a table outside for four people. When we arrived we were told we couldn't sit outside because a lot of people reserved for outside and they needed to accommodate other people. The outside only had one or two tables occupied. The rest were empty. It was just bizarre. The hostess was a hot mess and lacked any desire or capability to explain why our reservation was less valid than others who were arriving later. It wasn't worth exploring further as she was already annoyed that I mentioned we reserved an outside table. We sat inside and were the only people in the entire restaurant for a while until things picked up later on. We each ordered an app and an entree. The apps were good, but nothing stellar for the price point. The entrees were ok except for one, the radiatori pasta. It looked the most delicious but was a huge disappointment. The sauce left a terrible after taste and we all passed on it after taking a bite. None of the dishes were hot. It was as if they had been prepped hours earlier and left to cool to room temp before being plated and served. The server was sweet and very on top of her game. It stinks when a server is at the mercy of a bad hostess and disappointing kitchen. Hungry Angelina, previously one of my favorite restaurants in LA, already shuttered after a slow, painful decline in food and service quality. I wouldn't be surprised if Sestina eventually follows suit. This was our fourth time visiting and will probably be our last. MK's rapid expansion seems to be at the expense of the quality of his existing establishments.

Yelp
The 4 of us enjoyed ourselves here, sitting outside on a well shaded patio, enjoying flowing conversation, sipping beverage, and watching the world walk by. Starting with the stuffed peppers, I really enjoyed the slightly spicy peppers stuffed with a creamy ricotta cheese and pumpkin seeds adding texture. Consensus highlight of the meal was the elbow pasta in a creamy vodka sauce with just a hint of a bite. The sweet corn ravioli...it was good, but for some reason (labor intensive to make?) restaurants never seem to give a meals worth of ravioli. If we were not sharing plates one person would have gone hungry. Two good sized pizzas were ordered, the 4 cheese was enjoyed by all, the Il Pepe pizza was very, very spicy. I was the only one who could tolerate it, and it was hotter than I would prefer. This is the one item we would not order again. Garlic bread, ordered to enjoy with the pasta, did not look anything like the pictures others have posted. We believe someone forgot to add the garlic. We did get a bowl of sauce which made the bread enjoyable. Limited selection of beer and wine, we ordered Guilly's Lager and a glass of Coquelicot Mon Petit Chou (?). I have no idea what the wine was, but my partner enjoyed it. Beer went down easy. The service. Our server came across as a real person, which is pretty rare and greatly appreciated. She helped make the experience a positive. There was an interlude of 7 or 8 minutes between the pasta and pizzas, and the not-garlic bread was served well after delivery of the pizzas. We did not let this impinge upon a very nice evening out. Finally, I purchased the virtual gift cards redeemable through an app at many (not all) of the Kenney restaurants. The app was really well done and it made paying very easy, almost a pleasurable experience.

Yelp
As much as I wanted to like this place because of its concept and location... the food was mid. You know those restaurants where you can literally order anything and it will take you on a new flavor adventure and taste great? Well, this place isn't it. Recommend ordering something they're known for and take in the vibes of downtown Culver City .

Yelp
Matthew Kenney is an absolute GENIUS. I've been traveling between SF & LA to try all his restaurants and EACH are mind blowing & have earned five stars not just for "vegan" food but for clever and delicious combinations. See below for a list of his other restaurants. Ate at Sestina 2 nights in a row because it was just. that. good. We had to try everything on the menu. Be careful, there are some that wow and some that are just good/average. If you want the ones that wow, pick anything from 6 and up. 7 & 8 were decent too but the other pastas were amazing, could not get enough of. My Favorites & My Recommendation List (in order): 1) Fettuccine Vongole 2) Radiatori Smokey Sugo 3) Stuffed Peppers 4) Quattro Formaggi (4 cheese pizza) 5) Tie Dye Pizza 6) Arancini 7) Tagliatelle Truffle 8) Pappardelle. Mushroom Ragout 9) Garlic Bread (smelled amazing, slightly sweet crust, very buttery, but nothing too decadent) 10) Caprese Salad My Favorite Matthew Kenney restaurants (in order): * BAIA (SF) * Sestina (LA) * Double Zero (LA) * Plant Food + Wine (LA) * New Deli (LA) * Woodblock (SF) M.K. LA Restaurants I still need to try: * Hungry Angelina * Laduree * Folia * Make out * Oleada cocina * Veg'd

Yelp
So I love to eat and try to leave good reviews about the businesses I try. However, this review will be different. I will start off on a good note, the drinks were well crafted, and the garlic bread was tasty. The service was out of this world. HOWEVER, we did not know the food was vegan, until we ate it. For the love of food, DO NOT call a vegan nut substance on dough, a 4 cheese pizza. Call it a 4 substance vegan nut sauce. I'd say it's misleading when I'm standing outside - Looking at a menu and it says nothing about vegan. The substance or as they call it "cheese" in the pizza was WAY TOO salty and the pesto sauce was mostly just basil - could hardly taste a Parmesan substitute, garlic or olive oil in the sauce (which are some of the traditional ingredients in pesto sauce). I only recommend this place for the bar, service and drinks, NOT the food.

Yelp
If there were half stars, this would be a perfect 4.5. My boyfriend and I came here on a Sunday and sat outside. It's worth noting that we are NOT vegan, and actually almost cancelled our reservation when we found out it was. We were skeptical that Italian food could be good without real cheese, but we decided to give it a shot. Our waiter was incredibly pleasant and gave us pasta recommendations. I had a glass of the sauvignon blanc (which was delicious), and my boyfriend got a specialty cocktail. We started with the arancini, which ended up being our favorite of the night. The red sauce on top was to die for. The garlic bread was also fantastic (I can't believe there wasn't real butter in it). We got the pesto fusili and the truffle tagliatelle. We did have to ask for salt and pepper because both dishes needed it. The truffle pasta was not super strong truffle flavor. The pesto tasted super fresh. The only dish that was just ~okay~ was the truffle tagliatelle. Overall, will definitely be back to try more dishes on the menu. We were THOROUGHLY impressed and surprised by this place, especially considering all the items are vegan.

Yelp
Our server was Logan and recommended the meatball pizza which was so good. Thanks! Zach & Pareen
