"The Orange County steak and seafood contingent has a lot to be excited about these days, as Newport Beach’s glossy new Pendry hotel opens wide with ocean views, 295 rooms, and the luxurious indoor-outdoor Set Steak and Sushi restaurant inside. Run by Clique Hospitality, a large group that oversees projects in Las Vegas, San Diego, and beyond, the new Set Steak & Sushi is primed to become one of the ’it’ spots for the coastal area near Corona Del Mar. As the ampersand name notes, the restaurant focuses equally on grilled meats and raw fish, all served under the direction of group chef Jose Ruiz who also oversees San Diego’s Lionfish and Serea. Chef James Jung, a Nobu vet and former chef de cuisine of Yellowtail in Las Vegas under Akira Back, is also on the new project, with its tall ceilings, wood-lined dining room, and airy open patio set underneath a pair of towering trees. Set’s menu offers expected options like Parker House rolls and a Caesar salad, and more surprising options like a bluefin tuna pizza, whole lobster tempura, and lacquered duck with scallion pancakes. Dry-aged steaks are available, as are specialty rolls and seafood towers with plenty of caviar add-ons available. This is one for the spendy Orange County crowd, to be sure; the opening menu can be found here. The new Set Steak & Sushi is now open and serving dinner at 690 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach, CA 92660." - Farley Elliott

Let’s go back to one of the best places I’ve ever eaten in Orange County. It’s located across from Fashion Island in Newport. This is my second visit in the last few months, which should already tell you how much I love this place. Whenever I’m thinking of a spot to impress someone, they always deliver. This time I wanted to try their brunch experience. Started off with the most refreshing cocktails and half a Peking duck because why not? Now that I explored more of their brunch menu, my favorites are the Lobster & chorizo scramble, Mixed berry French toast, and maybe an extra Breakfast burrito depending on how hungry I am ;) And definitely save some room for dessert! It makes me so happy to hear when people visit this beautiful restaurant, and even more when they love it and want to come back. This spot truly deserves all the hype. Thanks for reading! ^-^

Honestly, the food is good here, the half peeking duck was my favorite 5/5. It was delicious. The lamb was a 4/5 it could use more of a sear on the outside the sushi was pretty good 4/5 The steak was delicious 5/5 The desert was a 0/5 but the presentation was beautiful. it was a chocolate shell with a matcha cake piece and a cream on the inside that was so flavorless and gross. But the presentation was spot on. And our server was great as well. She was very sweet. The worst part about this experience after checking in with the reservation you're waiting around for almost 50 minutes after your reservation to sit. The restaurant was extremely crowded. It kind of reminds you of Vegas. It's a very popular place, but you shouldn't be waiting almost an hour to sit down with a reservation. And you have to keep checking in with the hostess to find out where you are at in the line because they don't text you. And then their kitchen closes at 9:30 so you make reservations for nine get there at 8:40 pm you don't get sat till 10 and the whole place starts shutting down it's quite the unforgivable experience. I don't recommend this place. But enjoy the pictures. :-)

I love the outdoor seating at this restaurant. Great ambience and great food. We ordered a bunch of menu items going down the menu. Everything tasted fresh. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. For parking we used valet. It was a very busy restaurant, but the atmosphere was great and the voice level wasn’t so loud. Also great location near Fashion Island.

Been here multiple times but almost every time despite having a reservation I had to wait for up to 30 minutes to get seated. One time I made a reservation for a table on the patio for 8:30 pm. By 9 pm they were only able to get me seated inside. Service was incredibly slow and we had to ask for bread 3 times. At 10:30 while we were still eating the main course they brought us a check implying we should leave (they have a 2 hour table limit) as our reservation was for 8:30 even though we were only seated at 9 and not at the table I’ve originally booked. Rest of the times everything was fine. Waiting stuff is really nice and professional but it looks like they are understaffed. On the bright side - food, cocktails, and atmosphere here are amazing. Every single item I tried from the menu was outstanding, especially beef carpaccio, tuna pizza, carrot cake, and green flash cocktail.

I highly recommend this place! We’ve been here for lunch before and we loved it! so we came back today tried their brunch breakfast The atmosphere at Set’s is amazing. The staff, the service couldn’t be any more welcoming and accommodating, we walked in with no reservations. Great customer service! especially with our incredible attentive Waitress Kimberly! She continuously checked in with us to make sure everything was fine, We had brunch breakfast eggs Benedict and California Benedict prepared to the perfection! and the drinks are a total masterpiece! Not to mention the carrot cake off the charts!! We definitely will keep coming back again👌

Steakhouse and sushi spot located inside the Pendry Hotel. Had a private room for a work dinner and we had a set menu that was served family-style. Our servers were on top of it and the ambiance was nice. The restaurant seemed pretty popular as there was a wait to get in throughout the next but there is s bar area to hang out at. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Food wise, we ate the following: - Blue fin tuna pizza - my favorite app. There’s truffle oil and the tuna is nice and smooth - Wagyu carpaccio - I didn’t have this but my coworkers liked it - Beet tartare - an interesting vegetarian twist on a classic. The bagel chips were a fun touch. - Caesar salad - there’s a generous amount of cheese and the croutons are few, but are stuffed - Bavette steak - the tiniest bit overdone but I really liked the chimichurri sauce - Rigatoni alla vodka - my favorite of the entrees; nicely creamy and al dente - Salmon - this is on top of rice and has a miso sauce. It’s a healthy option. - Brussel sprouts - standard side but it’s a classic - Whipped potatoes - I didn’t try this but my coworker was so affronted by this he ordered bread rolls - Wild mushrooms - I liked this side a lot; very earthy - Bread rolls - these came with a honeycomb ginger butter that was very aesthetic, but by this point I was stuffed - Carrot cake - this was a huge slice that came with chocolate sorbet; it was pretty to look at but standard - Chocolate cake - I preferred this dessert as I can never say no to a lava cake

This is a restaurant that offers good breakfast, desserts, service, and atmosphere to hang out. It does serve steaks, seafood, and sushi, but we didn't have a chance to try these on this trip. But what we have tried, the dishes were tasty and portion sizes were good. Overall, we had a good experience here and will definitely come back to try its other dinner offerings.
