Big Money Comes to Party at Orange County’s New Steak and Sushi Spot | Eater LA

"Inside the glossy new Pendry hotel I found Set Steak & Sushi to be a luxurious indoor-outdoor restaurant that splits its focus evenly between grilled meats and raw fish under the direction of Clique Hospitality and group chef Jose Ruiz, with Nobu vet James Jung also on the project. The tall ceilings, wood-lined dining room, and airy open patio set beneath a pair of towering trees give the space an elevated coastal vibe. The menu mixes expected items like Parker House rolls and a Caesar salad with surprises such as bluefin tuna pizza, whole lobster tempura, lacquered duck with scallion pancakes, dry-aged steaks, specialty rolls, and seafood towers with plenty of caviar add-ons — a decidedly spendy offering aimed at becoming an 'it' spot for the Orange County crowd." - Farley Elliott

The hospitality here is next level. The SWEETEST staff, they really made our night. Our server, Sarah, gave the best recommendations and was so accommodating! The host staff at the front were also so kind and complimented my dress. Even the other staff were so helpful whenever we needed anything and were so attentive and easy to talk to. They made for my sister’s birthday to be really memorable. The sushi SET was really fun and delicious. We all LOVED the mashed potatoes and the Branzino was delicious! The Bang Bang shrimp appetizer was also really good and I would recommend it.

Got the set steak for 3 — plenty of food and pretty good. Mushrooms were tasty, fries were disappointing, Caesar salad way too salty, but the bang bang shrimp was solid. Nice outdoor seating and atmosphere, but stuff kept falling from the trees and made the couches dirty. Oddly, lots of empty tables but the reservation system showed fully booked. Parking is valet only.

I visited this restaurant on Easter Sunday around 5:15 PM and ordered the PnB rolls, lamb lollipops, and mashed potatoes — everything was absolutely delicious! I also highly recommend the sushi — it was bursting with flavor. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful — I really loved the design and ambiance. Valet parking was $15, which was fair. Overall, it was a great experience. The only downside was that our server, Alex, did not provide the level of professionalism we had hoped for. I truly hope this was just a one-time issue. That said, I still highly recommend visiting this restaurant. The food is fantastic, the space is lovely, and I’ll definitely be coming back again!

***BEWARE of being charged extra for the dishes you ordered**** ***make sure you check the prices and it reflects it on your receipt *** This restaurant is located inside a hotel. Came here during Lunch on a Saturday. There was a lot of people but we had reservation for 6 ppl. On Yelp, I was checking their popular menu and got the Bluefin Tuna Pizza. It was so so so delicious!! $24 but it was worth it!!! Definitely recommend. The size is an appetizer size. So not a lot but the flavor is delicious. There is truffle oil drizzled on top that makes it so tasty! The bread is very thin and crispy which enhances the bite. Skip the $21 Breakfast Burrito. Not good at all! No flavor and is bland. I read that parking is $15 valet. Self parking more for some reason but I dunno. We parked at Fashion Island Mall for free. There was 22% gratuity automatically charge. Our waitress Kimberly didn't really check in on us. We couldn't even find her to order extra food. Only once did she come because I wanted to order something extra. Pretty much just wrote down our orders and that was it. Other table servers dropped off our food. On top of that, this place sneakily puts $1-2 in random orders. I realized it when I was charged $22 for Breakfast Burrito instead of $21. Therefore my friends were checking theirs and some of their dishes were charged $2 extras too. We had to ask our waitress about it and she said she'll talk to the manager. She came back with a different receipt. There was no apology or anything or explanation why we were charged extra on certain food items. A little shady if you ask me. Why do that to your customers. With each table “mistakenly” slipping in $10 more charge for each group, the restaurant is taking our money like nothing. Kimberly, our server, probably wasn’t apologetic because she already gets 22% tip from us. On top of that, their gratuity of 22% wasn't changed cuz the total would have been different. They just deducted $6. Ambiance was great. Decor was pretty and lively. Had an outdoor table with a live DJ playing.

A very memorable dinner with my family. First, its good for you to know this restaurant is inside the Pendry hotel (fancy) so you will pay $15 just to park, bur we knew it would be an upscale night. I ordered the lamb “lollipops”, the ceaser salad, and wife had two featured sushi rolls and one of my sons had the steak fried rice and the other the macaroni and cheese “sticks”. The lamb was pretty undercooked for a medium rare order. It was served rare, and with a very indian-styled seasoning. It was an odd marinade for lamb and I cant say I enjoyed it very much but the richness of the lamb still made its way through. It just needs salt and pepper and you’re golden. My favorite wife’s sushi was great, as was the dishes my children enjoyed. My favorite of them all was the steak fried rice. Overall its a great place with some great dishes. Just dont get the lamb. Service was great and ambience fun. A solid place for a date.

I cannot wait to come back. We went full out and started with the make your own hand rolls, a couple maki, and then had the sashimi set box and some steak to end the meal. The presentation and flavors were top tier. We even got to pick our own knives which was a cute touch. I am salivating as I write this. Thanks to our server Altan who was attentive and made the meal even better.

This is one of the best brunches we’ve had ever. Our server, Alex, made some great recommendations, and he alone deserves 6 stars. We ended up with the Surf and Turf roll, Lobster and Chorizo Scramble, and the Steak and Eggs. All were delicious and made us very happy. The bottomless mimosas helped too. Very happy with this meal and will definitely come back when we are in the area. Thank you again Alex!
