If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, you're not finding it here. Setagaya is part of the food court of Japanese Village which is a collection of 7-8/10 food. You'll be paying prices you'd expect to pay for mediocre food at conventions (15-18 per dish) but the food itself is worth 12-16 at most. (Still tastes better than convention food) Except for Setagaya. It's a viciously decent ramen. The most B+, the absolute 6-7/10. This is better than the slop they serve at Kyuramen and around the same level as Ajisen. The broth is solid though they might underfill if you're doing takeout. The noodles are good, the portion size is fine. If you think the chashu pork belly is too fatty, your head's definitely far up your rear. They almost always have a 30-40% fat cap per piece as pork belly should be. Their spicy miso is good, their black garlic is good. There's also nice vegan options. The texture of the noodles is acceptable, both their egg noodles and thin ones. The service isn't something insanely intimate like an actual Japanese ramen bar, it's a packed food court staffed with people that are ramen equivalents of Subway employees. You'll definitely be getting better food here than those farce Asian fusion "Japanese" restaurants, I'll tell you that much.

Let me start by saying i stumbled upon this place going to microcenter need somewhere to charge my scooter they allowed my scooter to charge so i Got thin rolled pork and fat roll slices chives green onions there version of deviled eggs noodles and a tastey water gravy and oils with spices it was absolutely incredible tastes and flavors a truly memorable dishes i came 1230pm beginning of the week

The ramen has a deep, rich flavor — comforting from the very first sip. But the best part was the staff: super friendly, attentive without being intrusive, and always with a smile. My husband and I dine in this afternoon. The food was good n the meat was lean n good n tasty. Then I order n tske out one for my son . It was DX.. 4 pcs of meat. When we got home, we realized the food was totally different!! The meat were all FAT! The soup was extremely little. Why it was so inconsistent on the food quality. It was like cheating!!! $18++ unfortunately I have only pictures of dining in. My son throw out the meat before I can take a picture. I think the women were trained to only give quality n genuine food for dining in. As for take out..... they try to reduce whatever is necessary to cut cost n take customers for granted! Japanese owners n culture are not like that. The owner must be.......?????

This review is from my 9 year old son as I don't eat pork. He said it was amazing. His first time trying fresh ramen. There were some ingredients he wasn't used to, but he raved about the broth and noodles. Wish there was a kids portion of just 1 piece of meat, broth and noodles.

Found a piece of paper in my ramen. They skipped my order and served the customers who came after me because they had lost my receipt order. Well, I guess the receipt fell into the cabbage box next to the cashier and came with my soup.

One of my favorite quick ramen spots in Brooklyn. The miso and spicy miso ramen bowls are filling and heavy, broth wise, so if you have a sensitive stomach, the tonkotsu ramen may be a better choice. The vegan ramen is especially light, but if you don’t like the taste of almonds or dairy product in your ramen (or are allergic) it’s not for you. My favorites are the spicy miso or black garlic bowls! And service is pretty fast for the amount of customers they get in a day.

Honestly not the best ramen I have had but in the only ramen spot in Japan Village this is a must after lots of shopping. Ordering process was easy and the wait for the ramen wasn't long. I like that you can come back and grab a few things from other places before settling in with your ramen. I ordered the black truffle tonkotsu ramen and the spicy miso ramen. The tonkotsu definitely melted my heart as there weren't any seats inside and we had to kick it outside for seating. The spicy miso ramen is definitely spicy as well which is a good surprise! Definitely put up a good fight against the cold and honestly this really hit the spot. I prefer this over most of the other stalls in Japan Village and wholeheartedly say I'm grateful you are in industry city.

In all the years I've visited Industry City and Japan Village, I usually always skip the ramen and go straight for udon or the other places. I had Ramen Setagaya in St Mark years ago and it didnt impressed me then. But being that it was a rainy day, I decided to try ramen here. Arrived about 30min before closing after an AAPI Event at the Court Yard 1/2. Decided to try to order a couple of stuff since it's the first time dining here. I ordered: *Spicy Miso Ramen *Extra: order seasoned tofu on the side *Hirsoshi Pork Bun as appetizer My companions ordered *Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX and the *Classic Tonkotsu DX I thought the seasoned tofu ($2) was Inari (like ar Gohei Udon) but it was crumbled tofu with seasonings which was actually not bad. Great extra protein choice and vegetarian. The Hiroshi Pork Bun was actually better than I thought. It gave a refreshing taste and nice balance aganist the salty ramen. I tasted more lettuce (crisp & refreshing) rather than the pork (thin slices) and bready (because of the bao). All the ramen were salty. The Tonkotsu ramens were served with thin noodles while the Spicy Miso had thick curly wavy noodles (my favorite) so I was very glad to have that. One of my friend wished he had a choice in picking the thicker noodle as he wasn't pleased with the thin noodles in his classic Tonkotsu DX. Suggestion: maybe get to choose type of noodles? And make ramen less salty.

So I'm always skeptical of trying ramen I don't know why just am but I was in the mood it was cold wet and rainy. And the black garlic ramen bowl Omgish so delicious me and my partner got one to share she ended up getting her own. The pork pieces wow so delicious I didn't want my bowl to end I wiped in clean. I will for sure be coming back here when I'm back in this area. For sure must try don't skip it. Parking outside was difficult to find and you have to pay. Wasn't so busy inside. Very nice and helpful service as well

Such good classic ramen in the neighborhood. Love the flavorful broth and large portions, especially with the meat which is so rare! Cute little sitting area as well.

I was staying at a nearby hotel in Brooklyn and came here for dinner. I ordered their classic tonkotsu ramen. With the thin straight noodles, it reminded me a bit of the ramen from Shinsengumi back home. I've had good ramen of various styles both in the States and in Japan. Some of the other reviews were a bit harsh. It wasn't the best bowl of ramen, but it definitely wasn't the worst that I've had. Unfortunately, these days with inflation, $15 for a bowl of ramen is considered cheap. Please keep in mind that ramen is inexpensive food. This ramen place is located within Industry City Japan Village across from Sunrise Mart. You place the order at the counter. We ordered Spicy Miso Ramen & Classic Tonkatsu Ramen, you add drinks as well. There's seating however, keep in mind the place can get really busy and there might be guarantee seating if you come on a weekend. We came on a Friday afternoon. Ramen was delicious! Located inside Japan Village food hall in Industry City, this is a fast, casual ramen option. You order at the counter and grab a seat, either at the counter or a table (first come first serve). When your number is called, you can pick up your bowl of ramen at the counter. I had the spicy miso ramen. The broth was thick and it had a decent spice level for the average person. After coming back from a recent Japan trip, this was definitely not comparable. It wasn't the best I've had, but also definitely feel I can find better in Brooklyn. While the taste is fine, it didn't leave me feeling satisfied -- definitely not for $18! The chashu was not super tender but egg was cooked well though. Bring the bowls back to the counter after you're done.

I absolutely love the Mt fuji Ramen. My friends call it spaghetti ramen since it's basically tomato and Parmasean, but I love the combination of tomato and cheese with chili flakes in my ramen. I had it in japan before and it was my absolute favorite type of ramen style so I'm very happy to have this close to me at home in the states.

Affordable and amazingly delicious. I was craving ramen for the longest and this hit the spot. I got the classic tonkotsu and my cousin got the black garlic tonkotsu. We were extremely impressed to how perfectly charred and crisped the tonkotsu was. The broth was rich and noodles were al dente. It is a small with limited seating but there is bar seating. Service was great and accommodating.

Other review said it best, disappointing. I know ramen real well, this is Poot quality crap. The McDonalds of ramen- it feels like a chain with just cooks who don't care. The ramen is over salty Poor quality broth, noodles are generic poor quality noodles, minimal stuff on the ramen, salty but lacking favor, it's average priced $18 ish, slightly smAll portion. The pork was like rubber, worst I ever had. So if you want crap ramen made by Mexicans for $18 this is your place. Nothing is authentic Japanese about this Every chínese fake Japanese ramen place around here is 10x true insult to my Japanese heritage. Ivan ramen I can recommend. The staff is super nice, food just sucks Don't waste your time or money.

The ramen was okay, but it is definitely not worth $20. They only have small plastic spoons, and it's kind of hard to drink soup. The guy behind the counter was not nice.

This restaurant makes you feel like you're in an actual ramen shop in Japan. The booth was a cozy place, well furnished and overall, relaxing. But nothing beats the ramen! I had the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen (my favorite ramen) and hands down it was gratifying! The perfect meal for a chilly day. The staff were friendly and fast; best service I'd ever experienced. Definitely worth the visit!

Overall although a bit pricey, the ramen was quite nice. The texture of the noodles were good, but the chashu toppings were even better. If you're a fan of strong flavors the dark garlic tonkatsu is the way to go. The Mt. Fuji, contrary to its unique appears was quite lackluster in terms of flavor.

Does not taste authentic or fresh. I read an earlier review that described this place as the "McDonald's of Japanese food" and I thought it may have just been a strong opinion but after tasting it - I agree. Food: I like that they have a vegan option and you can sub vegan noodles in for any of their other broth that are veggie. The noodles themselves are not great quality they almost seem to be a bit waxy in my opinion. While the broth does pack flavor to it, the ingredients are not mixed well. Mine in particular had chunks of what seemed like undissolved powders/seasonings. Service: The staff seemed very disinterested and I sat at the counter and was able to see my food prepared and noticed that the person preparing my food only wore one glove. I watched them touch many unsanitary items and then used the same hand to sprinkle a topping on my ramen. Ambiance: Unlike other parts of Japan Village this place does not seem to have any essence of the Japanese culture. It has more of a fast food/chain feel.

Conveniently located in the Japan village food hall (actually it's one of the first stores you see after you enter on 3rd Ave). Went with the classic tonkotsu which felt was fairly priced at $14. Ample seating. Clean. Fast receipt of food. Noodles were fresh. 2 large pieces of charsu In my order. Decent portion size.

A very hefty and warm bowl of ramen infused with an incredibly flavorful scent of garlic! My total ended up being around 21 dollars for both the black garlic tonkotsu deluxe with a side of extra pork, which equated to a small bowl of ramen from the Michelin star ramen shop Tsuta at Dumbo. This ramen tasted 10x as good as the one from Tsuta and came with a wealth of flavorful ingredients! The picture speaks for itself and I couldn't have been happier with this bowl of ramen to keep me warm while I travel home during the cold winter breeze! Definitely a must-try if you haven't yet! Japan Village wouldn't be much without its own ramen restaurant. Bar style nonetheless like in traditional Japan. A very brothy and deliciously bloated experience - I enjoyed every moment of it. $14 is a fair price and the bowl is reasonably sized where you get the best portion sized of all parts of ramen. Like many tiny ramen stalled restaurants, seating is limited but this is a quick service sit-in type of dining so chances are there for you to grab a seat and slurp the ramen away. The dish is good but not the ultimate flavored ramen broth I've had. Noodles are nicely al dente and soft. But the winning dish of the night is the Mt. Fuji mountain parmesan ramen. Cheese strangely does work in this tomato broth creamy goodness noodle dish. Just be prepared to not eat anything before coming here because the ramen here did leave me and my friend full for hours after.

New York is full of great ramen and this place outshines most fancy ramen shops. With a cool ambiance alongside other Japanese restaurants and bars inside the Japanese village in industry city, this ramen shop is a must. The Classic Tonkotsu was spectacular, the broth was rich and creamy with a deep pork flavor, the noodles were perfectly cooked and on the thinner side (which I prefer), the soft boiled eggs were marinated in soy and gooey on the inside and all of this was accompanied by four juicy slices of chopstick tender Chasu. The Pork buns are also phenomenal; super tender pork, the fluffiest bun, a few refreshing slices of lettuce all tied together with a spicy sauce that make this pork bun a must try!

Used to like this ramen spot when in St Marks. the quality definitely gone down and became salty and the noodles have this alkaline taste.

The food was fresh, made to order. Very authentic and full of flavor! The service was stellar! I sat inside and ate. It was very clean and welcoming to eat. I can't wait to return to try more on the menu!!!

Feeling for some ramen that day. Saw this place and there was no line. Looked up some reviews on Yelp and it seems like a pretty decent ramen place. Not a large menu which make picking something to eat easier. We went with the most recommended and We ordered the black Garlic Tonkotsu Dx. The difference between the Black Garlic Tonkotsu and Black Garlic Tonkotsu Dx is the DX comes with 2 extra slices of pork and egg for a few extra bucks. I usually like my ramen with egg. The food came out fairly quick. We were able to sit anywhere within the food court. Broth was flavorful. It would've been better if the broth was more thick but it was pretty good. The pork had a good meat to fat ratio. It was a little dry but still flavorful. The bamboo shoot was a little weird. It had a hint of sourness to it. Bean spouts added a good crunchy texture to the bowl of ramen. Ramen noodle was good as well. Overall pretty decent bowl of ramen. The bowl may look a little small but it was filling.

While in Japan Village, we grabbed some food here. We ordered the Miso Ramen ($16), which came piping hot. The ramen includes chashu, bamboo shoots, cabbage, scallion, bean sprouts, and a soft boiled egg. The broth is a bit oily, but great flavor. The noodles are also thick and bouncy with good texture. While the ramen is good, the cabbage pieces were huge. They really need to chop this up into more bite-sized pieces.

I am not exaggerating when I say this may be my favorite ramen in NYC! Industry City is a trek, but Japan Village is always a cute stop and this is the best stand there. The spicy miso ramen ($15) is a must-try, and the classic tonkotsu ($12 for original, $14 for deluxe) and black garlic tonkotsu ($13 for original, $15 for deluxe) are great choices as well. The broths are all rich, and the best part of the chashu: so thick and tender! The food also comes out super quickly.

This was my first stop in Japan Village when it opened and it was already forming a line. Luckily I was early so there was no wait and the ramen was ready super fast! Make sure to opt for the deluxe version of tonkotsu, you'll get a whole egg and 2 extra pieces of char siu. The ramen was creamy but nothing too special. I enjoyed the flavor of the char siu and I loved the marinated egg. It was perfectly jammy as I prefer. Definitely not the best bowl but ramen I've had but surprisingly pretty good for a food court spot. It was an affordable, fast and yummy meal.

Disappointing for 2 reasons: 1. To get an egg you have to order the 'Delux' version... to my surprise, I ask the waiter why the Ramen didn't have it in there. Then, realized only spending $3 more (for a total of $18.00) was needed. 2. The pork served was terribly dry and NOT tender... I had two slices while all other listings of the photos show 4 slices. (The Delux order comes with 2 extra slices.) One positive: they served it quite fast from the time it took to order.

Enjoyed getting our ramen fix here. Located in Japan Village food hall area, it's self service after placing our orders. We found a quiet table in the corner and the place never felt too packed for an early Wednesday night dinner. I got the Black Garlic tonkotsu while my husband got the Dx version, which came with 2 more pieces of chashu and an egg. I initially thought I wasn't very hungry, but then ended up devouring my entire bowl. Broth was good, not too salty, chashu tender and there was plenty of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, scallions. Also nice being able to stroll around after to check out the rest of Japan Village's offerings and the mart.

Overall, not a bad bowl of Ramen. Missing that "wow" factor that keeps you going back for another bite. The place is located in the Japan Village so easy to access. This place is located on the first floor of the Japan Village. Restaurant stall Is clean and well kept. I went with the spicy miso Ramen. The broth has a good miso flavor with a good amount of space. noodles have consistency and alkaline flavor. I did feel like the broth even though it had good flavor just didn't have the depth and flavor profile I was looking for. Didn't draw me in for a second bite. The pork also a little more tough than I like my Ramen. Still, not a bad place to grab a bowl of Ramen if you're looking for one in the area.

First time in @japanvillagebrooklyn after a year in Brooklyn (how!?) and tried out @ramensetagayausa! Perfect for a cold day and the broth was very thick, much better than what I expected for a ramen shop in a food court in the US They had quite a few flavors and my black garlic was a good choice

4.5/5 Setagaya (inside Japan Village) Black Garlic Tonkatsu DX - $16. Broth - 4/5. The broth is creamy and fatty the way I like it but the reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 is simply because knowing I had better and more concentrated broth within the NYC areas. Chashu - 5/5. This is the perfect example of how I love my chashu... Charred and fatty. No sweet glaze needed. I always order extra slices on top of the ramen. Noodles - 4/5. Firm straight noodles. I definitely appreciate more now than the past. If I still had to be honest, I still prefer thick and wavy noodles.

I went to Japan Village to redeem a voucher that I won from a giveaway, which allows me to use it at the food hall. I planned on ordering Ramen Setagaya, but when I got there, they told me that I can't use the voucher there because they're not a part of the food hall? I was very confused and to this day I still don't know if they're actually part of the food hall or not. Either way, I decided to order my ramen anyways and I'm so glad I did because it was one of the best ramens I've had in Brooklyn! I got the Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX and the broth was very rich. I found it to be a tad bit salty, but everything else in the ramen was perfect - the egg, chasu, bamboo shoots, and noodles. It was a little difficult to pull the ramen apart in the tiny container without spilling the soup but other than that, I have no complaints. I would definitely be back to order this again/try their other ramens!

This place located inside the Japanese village. It is self service. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. The order was prepped fast. The broth was pretty light and overpowered with the garlic flavor. It lacked that delicious pork flavor. The noodles were cooked well which is probably the only good thing about this dish. The Chashu was ok with regard to the texture but the flavor was meh. It is not a bad ramen probably for someone who is not a ramen snob.

Good for what it is. Not the best, but good for the area. The broth is rich, but not too rich. I got the Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX ($16 + tax) which was good. The DX is recommended for $2 more as you get 2 pieces more of chashu and an egg. The ramen is missing that "it" factor that makes it spectacular. Occasionally, I came here for lunch when I worked in the area. I would not come out of the way for the ramen here, but would definitely consider it if I was in the area. The service and food came out fast.

Ramen Setagaya is one of the (likely collectively operated) restaurants in Japan Village. I only ordered the Mt Fiji as it's quite unique. It's likely fusion given the tomato sauce and the cheese and is an incredibly heavy dish. The char siu is also very fatty and heavy. I'm not sure I've had ramen this heavy before but I'm not sure if this is unusual or not.

What Japanese Food court would be complete without a Ramen shop? Ramen Setagaya is the resident Ramen shop within Industry City Japan Village. The storefront is reminiscent of the Ramen shop from Naruto. Looking at the menu, I ordered: Tonkatsu Ramen Mt Fuji Ramen The Tonkatsu's broth was very rich and flavorful, with a couple slices of Pork. It really hits the spot on a cold day. The Mt Fuji Ramen on the other hand is an acquired taste. Its center is composed of a pile of parmesan cheese that once it is heated by the broth, turns into clumps of cheese curds. Did I mention that I am lactose intolerant? Ambience/Decor: Although Ramen Setagaya is located in a small food court, they do have a counter reserved for their customers. Food: Excellent tasty ramen, but beware Mt Fuji if you are lactose intolerant. TLDR: The Go To place for Ramen if you are hanging around Industry City.

Tried out this ramen spot in Japan Village in Industry City. Really liked the broth which was a bit greasy (I mean that in a good way) and was so full of pork flavor. The 4 pieces of chasu in the deluxe ramen is a great value. Wish there was a bit more seating available but other than that I have no complaints. Solid spot

The flavor of the broth is lacking. For 16 dollars for a ramen, I expect an umami bomb but it's just very average ramen. It wasn't offensive, but definitely doesn't satisfy you when you're craving a good bowl of ramen.

Great place for ramen! Got the spicy tsukemen and it was delicious! Broth was well flavored and portions were huge, if anything I had trouble finishing. Also got a yuzu drink that was sweet and basically tasted like juice.

Overall: 3.5 stars. Ramen Setagaya is located in the southeastern corner of Japan Village -- that's the near left corner when one enters Japan Village from 3rd Avenue. My impression of Ramen Setagaya is that it's good, but not great. Food: Good (3.5 of 5). We had the Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX, which had thin noodles, black garlic oil, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and seaweed. The broth had a lovely garlicky flavor, but was also had a slightly watery feel, as if the black garlic oil didn't integrate completely into the broth. The char siu was pretty good, some pieces had a nice smoky bacon flavor. Other: Suggested tips when paying via credit or debit card are calculated on the post-tax subtotal. Ramen Setagaya's space is within range of free VPN-friendly Wi-Fi from Link NYC. There are no bathrooms with the Japan Village space itself, but they are available in another part of the building -- exit through the back to find them. Ramen Setagaya, along with the other food stalls in Japan Village, are among the few food places in Industry City open after 6 PM.

It was pretty good for a fast food eat-in place. We wished they just added an egg in every ramen instead of having us to order deluxe with additional $. Service was very quick. It's in Japan Village on a crowded floor, but the noise level is low to moderate so we were able to dine comfortably.

I've been eyeing this place every time I come to Japan Village. Finally had the chance to try it. I ordered the Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX. It comes with a soft boiled egg, 4 slices of chashu and bamboo shoots. The broth was very good, the noodles were firm (how I like them) and the chashu was a perfect combination of lean and fatty. I cannot say is the best ramen in NYC, but it is a very good one in the area.

The outside of this restaurant looks like a very westernised ramen place but the interior and the service somehow returned to a more traditional japanese flavour. Got the black garlic tonkatsu ramen, nice broth that is relatively light but can definitely taste the black garlic. The topping are made reasonable well (especially the egg). Within east village there is a lot of competition on ramen but i think they have done a good job - and I don't recall another good black garlic broth ramen in close proximity.

In the entire Japan Village food hall, this vendor is the busiest. It's kinda crazy to see that while other vendors will be empty, this ramen vendor has a huge line. It got to the point where they ran out of ingredients and had to close in order to regroup and re-prepare the kitchen for essential ingredients. I got to try the Black Garlic Tonkotsu DX ($15), which consisted of chashu 4pcs, bamboo shoots, scallion, bean sprouts, seaweed, and a soft boiled egg. For $15, this is one of the cheapest spots to get ramen with a good amount of various ingredients to go with the ramen itself. Most importantly, it is super filling! If you're looking to dine in, unfortunately there is super limited tables and they're fought over by other savages.

This review is only for the black sesame oil ramen DX with (gasp!) 4 thin slices of chashu pork. Soup base: 4/5 Ramen: 3/5 Chashu: 4/5, would be 5/5 if they didn't burn a portion of it during prep Value: 4/5 Overall I'm giving the ramen 4 stars because it was pretty good, and anyone who says this place isn't as good Mitsuwa's ramen place need to eat more ramen.

Covid-19 Review: For takeout "Classic Tonkatsu Ramen DX". You get a dry take out box with noodles and toppings. Soup in a separate container. I walked up to the counter and ordered. I notice several were waiting for their order while social distancing was being practiced. While the noodles were being made, I went to the Sunrise Market across the hall. Got a bag Koshikari rice (they have a nice selection of different brands and grades), sashimi grade fish, ikura, tobiko and packaged fresh ramen to make at home later. I went back to pickup my ramen and it was ready. They hand it to me with both hands while bowing. A good sign of good Asian manners! Most Japanese restaurants in NYC no longer have the old school courtesy and manners. Definitely a plus to see this traditional way of greeting and show of appreciation for a customer's business. Ramen while different from eating it piping hot at the bar was still quite good! I pour the Tonkatsu soup into the dry container with noodle and toppings, let it summer for a bit, move noodles a bit to let the soup absorb. Noodles were still the right consistency with a good bite and elasticity that is pleasing. Some of the noodles were stuck together from it steaming inside the box, but overall not bad at all. Thank you team for working and providing very good service!

I saw photos from this place on the Industry City Instagram, and I wanted to check it out. Today, I was in the neighborhood and stopped by. The ramen is good. It's more traditional style Japanese ramen. If you want something a bit more sexy this is not the place. If sexy is what you're looking for, then I recommend some places in Manhattan like Totto, Ippudo, Ivan, or Tonchin. The ramen at these locations tends to be more savory with explosions of salty, sweet, and umami flavors. Nonetheless, this is very good ramen. I had the Black Garlic Tokontsu DX. The DX bowl has the eggs, which are my favorite addition to any ramen bowl. The prices range from $13 to $18. My only complaint, which is more so a nitpick, is the noodles were the thinner kind. I like my ramen noodles to be thicker and a little more chewy. The chashu was cooked well. It was crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. One annoying part was the restaurant only allowing you to eat inside if you have your booster shot. I only had my NYS vaccine passport, which doesn't indicate that you're boosted. I had to spend 10 minutes finding online records from my doctor indicating that I was boosted. Womp womp.
