A charming colonial style hotel. Rooms have high ceilings and are generally quiet dark inside. The furniture and fittings are very dated, old an creaking as is the wooden floor, but in keeping with the style, certainly the furniture could be better maintained, maybe the light bulbs could be uprated the rooms certainly don't scream luxury and have the feel of a dated Thai provincial hotel from the 1960's.||The pool area is wonderful shaded by mature tropical trees with a large and reasonably deep pool (1.05-1.5m). Staff are attentive, discreet and friendly. Beautiful breakfasts room and a reasonable breakfast (not a large selection and not 5* by any means) although given occupancy was very low (maybe 2 - 6 rooms and no more than 2 tables at breakfast including mine) eggs took a long time to be cooked and not once did they cook them as I asked. ||The bar was very quiet but the staff shone through mixing very good cocktails.||So why 1 start only? Well when I first arrived I was shown to my room which smelt of sewage and was extremely small with no walk in shower. I asked at reception if they had another room that did not smell so bad and maybe a little bigger. They showed me a nicer room with no smell and offered me to upgrade for an extra $25 on the price I had paid (booked, pay at hotel) with Bookings.com ($214.82 net. for 2 nights including breakfast). I checked that the new price was for the full stay and the receptionist confirmed it was. So I thought OK nevermind I'll pay the extra to not smell sewage smell for 2 days. I actually confirmed this twice with the receptionist as after seeing the second room I thought it was (smell aside) only worth an extra $25 for 2 nights ||At check out I was a little confused with the bill, the different currencies etc Kip $, THB used in Laos. I did ask is this in USD, confirmed, so I paid it. The extream heat did not help my clear thinking (42°c). However after travelling back to Thailand I checked the bill again only to realise they had charged me $200 per night! It's a SCAM!||Furthermore the hotel did not replied or even acknowledged my many attempts to contact them (2 emails, contact through Booking.com,WhatsApp messages) for over 24 hours and only when I called them. The initial response was to check with front desk and say they offered me the upgrade at an additional $92 per night and usually that room sells at $277. I strongly dispute this was ever said to me. ||At $277 this hotel is putting itself in the same class as Oriental, Raffles or Peninsula hotels, let me tell you this is very far off the mark, while the cleanliness and service are good the property is very very far off; dark dingy smelly rooms and while the service is good it's not at that top notch top price hotel standard. ||The final position of this hotel was I signed the bill therefore I must have accepted the price. The truth is I looked at the bill and could not understand it full, given thenmiriad of lines, the heat and the multiple currencies. ||They refuse to accept that they had a verbal contract with me for $200 ++ for the entire stay. ||Stay here at your own risk, hopefully you won't get the sewage room and make sure you fully check your bill and refuse to pay anything if they try to Scam you as they have done with me.
